This is a must stop when up in the western PA Laurel Mountains. A variety of baked goods with excellent pies. Our favorite here is the cinnamon snails, a small chunk of cinnamon sugar goodness. The pillow fruit filled cookies are also great. read more

I stopped by when I was in the area and bought a selection of items. While most of what I tried wasn't extraordinary, the pie crust cinnamon squares are 100% worth going out of your way for! Warm them up in the microwave and let deliciousness ensue. Some of the other items I tried included a chocolate chip cookie, Hershey kiss cookie, buckeye, chocolate gob with vanilla cream, and chocolate peanut butter fudge. Out of those, the Hershey kiss cookie was best. I didn't try any of their pies. read more

Had a pumpkin walnut cookie in the middle of summer. Seems more like a fall thing but purchased anyway. Cost $1.05 for one misshapen smallish cookie. Paid in cash and got my $0.95 change. Hate to say it but it was a sympathy purchase as I like to support small business and I didn't really see anything that caught my eye. Cookie wasn't tasty and I got a chunk of baking soda in my first bite. They share space with the country store and neither have a public restroom. Was an annoying experience. We got off the highway to use the bathroom and grab a soda. Passed a McDonald's but sad the sign for the store and thought it would be fun. It wasn't. Once we left, we began calling around to see if they had other shops (they do) and where it was (just one more shop, too much out of the way for us), but that is how much we wanted to buy more of these cookies to take back to St. Louis. Yes, you are in vacation and want desperately to believe the cute little bakery you came across is awesome. It is not. 1.20 for a single cake doughnut is a bit much considering how dry it was. I swear my cinnamon roll should have been sold from the days old tray. I stopped here quite often and have yet to be happy with my choice. Drive down the road another minute and you will come across Sarnelli's grocery store and deli. They carry assorted Italian treats from Theresa's Bakery, and even though they are brought in, still better quality than what you will find here. There's a reason this place has so many poor reviews. I have bought a few simple things there through the years so I decided to take home a pie. I decided on apple to keep it simple and easy to figure out. Pie was very poor or a place that advertises pies. Upper crust hard, thick and flavorless. bogttome crust not done and soggy. apples were poor and some type of cinnamon flavoring layered just on top of the apples instead of mixoing the apples with the flavorings. Also got some cinnamon rolls having the place outside LIgonier on Rt 30 as comparision. Not even close...tough dough with no airiness or lightness. skimpy icing. filling was good. have done better myself at home with little effort!! Even the pillsbury ready made from grocery store beat this days batch. I would pass on the $10 pies unless you absolutely are needy. Good stuff and cheap too! Got a variety of goodies. Got a small strawberry rhubarb pie. The crust was good but there was not enough natural filling. The brownies though, wow! Got a peanut butter brownie with chocolate icing, so tasty! The brownie had a wonderful fudge like consistency with a terrific peanut butter flavor and the icing, chocolatey goodness at its best! Skippable place right off route 71. I tried a small blueberry pie out of curiosity. The crust was rather tough and chewy. There was barely any filling though it tasted alright - like a smear of blueberry jam. They also sell rice krispies treats, brownies, and some unappetizing looking cookies. I love pies and a good quirky old time store, so when I saw signs for the General store and pie shop, I got excited. The General Store had some neat odds and ends, and was enjoyable to stroll through. The pie shop seemed under stocked, but hey- they had pie. When we got home and sliced into the Blackberry Pie, we were met with an extremely runny center. Two slices out, and the remainder of the filling drained into the empty spaces. All we have left is a hollow shell.in order to rat the rest, we will have to spoon the filling on top of the pie, or just toss it as the taste was subpar. Will not stop here again. read more

Typically, peanut butter cookies are soft and full of peanut butter flavor. These were hard, crunchy and barely had peanut butter flavor. We stopped here to buy a dutch apple pie after spending a day at Living Treasures with my grandkids. This place tots its place as a 'pie shoppe' There was no apple pies in the case so I asked the clerk if she had any and she said she did in the back. She came out with a pie in a box and taped the lid shut and charged me 11.95. We were very disappointed when we opened the lid, it was very light in color. We were uncertain if the pie was even cooked but was not told otherwise. We cut the pie and tried a pc, it was very dry and the crumbly top was terrible, it hardly had any sugar in it - was mostly flour. So we figured we would cook it but that didn't change anything taste wise. I really do think the filling was canned apples because cooking the pie made no difference in the taste or texture of the apples or for that matter, the taste or color of the crust. I can really only speak to the cookies as that's what we normally grab, a nice assorted box. Our favorites are the ones with the Hershey kiss on top and the buckeyes. The Country Pie Shoppe Bakery is must-stop when in the Laurel Highlands. Everything is delicious and the cupcakes are awesome. However, my favorite is the chocolate whoopee cake. It is phenomenal, from the creme-filling to the chocolate icing, perfect to serve at a birthday or dessert. The staff is very friendly and courteous. Right next door is the Old General Store, which is worth visiting, too. You will find everything there, from unique gifts to nostalgic products, including your next candle, bar of soap, old-time candy, jewelry, and decor. Whenever I need a gift, it is my first stop. Not Good. Tried a small blackberry pie. It was mostly filling very few blackberries. Not good, crust was not good. My wife tried - pie crust cinnamon rolls. They were awful, horrible unidentified aftertaste. Drive 20 miles down the road to Moio's in Monroeville. I love cherry pie. I've made my own. I've had my mom's homemade cherry pie. I've gotten cherry pie at bakeries and Giant Eagle. I thought getting one at a pie place would be a no-brainer. Wow. I'm pretty shocked that there are negative reviews. My husband and I were staying in town after visiting falling water and we wanted a treat to have later in the hotel room. I picked out an assortment of treats--- 3 cupcakes (they have a creamy filling), a peanut butter and chocolate ball thing, a cinnamon "snail" and a pumpkin cream cheese frosting in the middle muffin thing. Everything exceeded expectations and for all that it was $7.50. I admit we had no pie. Service was good and friendly too. We were talking about how we wish this place was closer to home.
