I will note (as a follow up) that if you are on the maintenance "secured service" plan. Be sure to understand the renewal/cancellation policy. I haven't had an issue at all. Furnace was not functioning one morning. Since it had only been one month since furnace tune up by Countryside, I called them. Informed them of the issue and that it was not an emergency since I also had a gas fireplace and the outside temps were unseasonably warm (high 30's). They got a tech to my house in 3 hours. Very good. Tech immediately diagnosed problem as a failed igniter, and informed me that it was a $500 part. Total repair bill was $667 to install a $40 part that took no more than 10 minutes to install. I have since found out that the igniter only costs $40, not $500! I talked with the owner and he first tried to justify the 10X markup by saying it is to defray the admin costs at his facility. Must be very inefficient if they have that large of admin costs. Then he stated that this is the standard charge by most reputable organizations. I contacted a few other reputable HVAC organizations to confirm and found that they would charge about $350 for this repair, not the $667 that I paid. The people at Countryside were very friendly, knowledgeable and easy to work with but beware of the "price gouging" that they do. Seems like the quality doesn't match their higher prices. I was impressed with my initial conversations with office manager and owner who came out to quote a ac/furnace replacement- but as time went on and I exchanged emails (following a water heater purchase) I wished I'd given my business to a different company. The people I talked to felt like "Salesman" convicting me I was on "borrowed time" and should replace more than I planned on. Part of the finished product I did need replaced (the heater) wasn't even up to code when they were done- which I found out after having a competitor come for a price comparison in an AC/ Furnace unit. When I took the time and mentioned this to the owner via email along with other thoughtful feedback, I never got a response (still haven't 2 weeks later). I'd go with them if I was pressed for time- they did come out the Monday following my Friday call (although the technician was a few hours later than I was told and I had to leave for an appointment) and if didn't mind paying the higher rates for average quality- but I'd suggest shopping around. Oh yeah, and they did hold off a week on charging me for the water heater- knowing I might make a 10K purchase later so I could finance it. (of course they did if it meant the chance at a big sale with a lot of mark up!). They tried to leverage this in an email when I let them know I wanted to shop around so I could feel confident with my purchase. It rubbed me the wrong way. Also, if you're a Costco customer looking, check them out. I compared 3 companies on machines with similar features and countryside came in at most expensive. Costco and the other guy were neck and neck, but Costco's customer service (Lennox through Marsh Heating and air) was unparalleled, and the Costco cash card brings you back 10-15% depending on time of year. read more

Circuit board wired wrong Re: Lance ********** owner of Countryside Heating & Cooling Solutions, Maple Plain, MN Note: I assumed they made an honest mistake but after being blamed for their screw up, I'm leaning towards an intentional action on their part to cause a breakdown and to make more money... When everything goes right, any company can get a 5 star review. But the real test for a company is how they respond when they make a mistake. Countryside Heating & Cooling Solutions, Maple... Plain, MN made a simple mistake that turned into a big issue for my family and I. They replaced a circuit board on my furnace to get my heat working in a cold February at a cost of nearly 500.00. Summer came around and my AC didn't work. I called them and they came out and fixed it at no charge because they had wired something wrong on the circuit board. I didn't like that they did the work originally and didn't test the system to make sure power was going to the AC unit, but they did take care of it. Fast forward a year and my AC is acting up, popping crackling, not getting a good connection. Of course it's 10pm on a Sunday and one of the hottest days of the year. So, being a retired contractor and a professional handyman, I was able to troubleshoot the problem and I discovered a fried contactor. After a hot sleepless night I replaced it the next day. A week later the new contactor started to act up again jerking the power to the AC on and off on and off etc., really bad for the compressor. New contactors don't go bad in a week. If it's not the contactor, there must be an issue with the 24 volt power source from the circuit board to the contactor solenoid. So I opened the furnace access panel to look at the circuit board and I discover a low voltage wire touching the circuit board but not connected to the screw. I connected the wire to the screw and the on off cycling of the AC unit stopped. The wire was touching allowing the 24 volts to work until the connection eventually burnt from arcing causing the contactor damage and the AC unit to fail months later. Although no one had touched that circuit board but Countryside Heating & Cooling Solutions, Maple Plain, MN, the owner, Lance **********, blamed me for the loose wire. Lance **********, the owner of Countryside Heating & Cooling Solutions, Maple Plain, MN would not acknowledge any wrong doing and did not even offer to pay the 50 bucks for the fried contactor I replaced. I told the owner "Wires don't jump off of the circuit board, your guy screwed up". His response was a whole lot of nothing! My AC is working now but anyone that knows anything about AC units knows that one of the hardest things on an AC compressor is that on off on off arcing of the power. Who knows the long term damage that was done. If I had 10 more years left on my AC unit, maybe now I have only a year before it needs to be completely replaced. Just had our furnace/ductwork cleaned and did an amazing job. Couldn't believe how gross it actually was. Highly recommend and will be doing it again in another year or so. They show you the before and after pic's as it's being done. Only wish I could share them..... read more
