We had a great experience with CountryWide. They called to say they running late, but they ended up being on time. Everything went smoothly and our basement/laundry sink, was fixed. I called with an urgent heating/cooling issue on Wednesday, August 25. I got an appointment for Monday August, 30. That day, the tech was supposed to arrive between 12 and 2. I was informed that someone would call me to let me know if the technician was going to be running early or late. When nobody had arrived (or called) by 2:20, I called the main number and was told that the technician was dealing with a big water leak issue. Okay, but what about my appointment? I had things to do. She then told me that someone would call when they were on the way. A little more than hour later, I got a call saying the man was on his way to me in Middletown from West Hartford. He finally arrived around 4. The tech looked at the thermostat, checked the duct work up in the attic (reported correctly that it was a mess), checked the fuse box in the basement, then went outside to look at the air conditioning unit. He did not take the panel cover off (inside of which ended up being a serious rodent issue!) He told me that a quote would follow. It's now been almost two weeks and I haven't heard a thing back from anyone. I've received no follow-up, no estimate, no nothing. I'm not sure what I paid $100 for. I'm confused and disappointed and out a hundred bucks, it seems, for nothing. I wrote the company to inquire but have heard nothing back. After doing deeper research and finding so many negative reviews, the fact that they only got $100 of my money for nothing seems like a blessing. I'll continue to wait for any type of communication from them whatsoever, but in the meantime, I will be going with another company and would not in a thousand years recommend this one. read more

I am writing this review because this Company did not respect my time and I would like others to know this when deciding whether or not to schedule an appointment with them. On 10/9, I did a chat online with this Company to set-up an appointment to clean my furnace before the winter. I love Companies that have a chat feature, as long as it is useful and takes the place of an unnecessary phone call. We eventually connected on the phone later that day and I made an appointment for 10/29 at noon or after. I understand windows are required, but since I need to drive 40 minutes to our condo that we sublet, I prefer to know if it will be morning or afternoon, so this time worked for me. On 10/28 (a Sunday), I received not one, but two confirmations of my appointment the following day. One via text and one via email, both very clearly reminding me I have an appointment with them on Monday, October 29th. Nothing about the Noon or after window, but I figured we were still good with that. On 10/29, at 11:32 am, I received a phone call from County Wide Mechanical to schedule an appointment. I was confused and stated that I thought I had an appointment with them that very day in the next 30 minutes (or later). Alex said that he was sorry, but it looked like it was not actually scheduled and they had a number of emergency calls to attend to this week. Thankfully, I hadn't left yet to go to the condo, so I gave them a pass and rescheduled for 11/6. Alex promised me I would be the first appointment that day, right at 8 am. I figured that was asking for much, but if it got done in the morning, I would be happy. On 11/5, I received no confirmation of my appointment the next day, which I thought odd since I received two confirmations when I actually didn't have an appointment set-up. I called at the end of the day and they had dispatch call me when the schedule for the following day was figured out. They called me back at 4:26 pm and said that even though i'm first in line, the technician had an emergency call first thing in the morning and then I would be after. I asked Alex (again) for an estimate and he said maybe late morning, but he wouldn't know for sure until the Tech started the work. Not a problem, just wanted an estimate. On 11/6, I arrived at the condo at 9:05 am. I set-up my laptop and prepared to work from the condo as long as needed. Time went by and I had received no call by noon. At 1:45 pm they called me, but they confused me with whoever was the emergency call before me because they said they were trying to reach me all day and wanted to know if I wanted to order the part. Once I cleared things up with her, she said she thought the Tech was dispatched to me and on the way, but would verify and call me back. No call back by 2:15 pm, so I did a chat online again and they said they would have dispatch check and call me. Received a call at 2:45 pm from Alex and he started apologizing because they would not be able to get the Technician out to my place today and would like to reschedule to any time next week. I declined and told them I would be working with a different Company. I hope anyone reading this review keeps this in mind when deciding between this Company and any other Company that seems in the same general "option bank." read more

Very disappointing company. I used them through the EnergizeCT program to replace my HVAC about 4.5 years ago. The system has never worked properly. The furnace stops working for no reason in the winter and the compressor stops spinning for no reason in the summer. I called them several times during my warranty period to come look at the system and they shrugged and said they couldn't figure it out. Several visits later and suddenly out of the warranty period and they want to charge me to fix a system that never worked properly from the get go. This company does not stand by their product or workmanship. I would not recommend at all. read more

This is a horrible company. They sent out a new homeowner coupon offering a "Free Furnace or Air Conditioning Maintenance Check -A $185 value" yet, when you call to schedule it (after rescheduling 4 or 5 times before coming out) they wouldn't offer the coupon and said we have to pay the $185 to get the furnace maintenance check. They refused to honor their coupon and have been very difficult to work with. I just don't understand sending out coupons that they won't offer. We would never use a company that doesn't honor their word. read more

Had them in to fix a leaking shower and an under-counter heater. After the first visit, shower continued to leak. They returned, however never finished and will no longer return our calls. Poor customer service! They also will not generate a detail invoice or give you a written estimate. Had another service in after and they showed us everything that was done poorly. These people put in new air ducting and central air 3 years ago and did a careless, sloppy job; I had to have them come back repeatedly to do the job right. The guys seemed to have no pride in their work and seemed sullen and resentful when I asked them to do it right. Now, a few days ago, we had an energy audit and the inspector noticed that some of the new basement ducts were not properly fastened to the ducts going up into the walls, so that there were gaps and hot air was being leaked into our otherwise unheated basement. My wife called Countrywide to complain and they sent someone out to look at the situation. The Company's only offer was to fix the problem at our expense. I was away, so my wife agreed and the guy just sprayed canned foam stuff all over it, charging us $350 for a slipshod job that I could have done better in an hour with $15-20 worth of canned foam. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

These guys seemed great when I started with them. They did several smaller projects for me that went pretty well, but their biggest job has become an absolute nightmare. A year and a half ago they replaced my boiler. The installation itself was a fiasco when the job ran late and the service manager showed up with his wife and toddler at my house. Not only did he unprofessionally bring his family on to the job site, but he left the lights on in his truck and the battery was dead when they finally went to leave. My wife had a call a neighbor to get him jump started. I called the company later to complain but got no response. Unfortunately that wasn't the end of it. For some still unresolved reason, the boiler shuts down when the air intake is connected to the pipe bringing in outside air. After more than a year and a half, they still haven't resolved the problem. I call them every couple of months and nothing happens. No call back - nothing. Maybe they're just hoping I'll give up and go away. The odd part is that most of their service techs are very good and they have a good IT system to track everything, give quotes on the spot, etc. But when thing go off the rails, the owner and service manager do not step up and take responsibility and get problems resolved. I'm going to call them again tomorrow and decided it was time to write a review. We'll see what happens - my expectations are extremely low at this point. read more

The service techs were good, but they misdiagnosed the problem at a $2149 charge!! They told me the problem was I needed new heating coils even though my furnace unit is clean and only 21 years old and in perfect running order. They replaced the coils and the problem persisted. After a week I finally got them to send another tech to the house, he finally diagnosed that my boiler was never capable of producing enough heat for a bath in the first place. No refund! No compromise, no solution! Just $2149 out for a job that wasn't necessary. read more

I scheduled an appointment with County Wide Mechanical Services LLD for Yearly Preventative Maintenance for an oil furnace. The cost was $196.75. The heat had been running since the week before, including use over the past weekend 10/18-10/20. When the tech first contacted me, he stated that I need to have some things repaired and sent me an email with the items. At this time, as indicated by the tech and the email 9:31 AM, the system was in operation but needed repairs and as an alternative, complete renovation. By the time the gentleman contacted me the second time 10:14 AM, the system was no longer in operation, needed a new oil pump (not originally listed as a repair) and I had no heat. I feel that even if their maintenance could not better the system, it should not make it worse. If I had heat when they arrived, I should have had heat when they left. When I asked the tech, Isaiah, about this, his response was, "Its Murphy's Law, whatever could go wrong will. It may have worked before but if just so happened that the maintenance could have caused it to give out...it's Murphy's Law," (which he repeated at least 4 times.) Well what happened to, if you broke it, fix it! I truly believe that the techs broke the pump from the time that the first summary was sent to the time that the second one was sent. It is not a coincidence that I did not need a new oil pump in the first summary and my system was in operation, but now I need a new oil pump, the heat is not working because of the oil pump and my system is now inoperable. I feel that this is a very deceitful way of doing business. They tried to turn my $196.75 into over $2,000 in a matter of minutes. My options were to either get the repairs done or not have heat. I bet most people just grab the checkbook and allow them to do the service but I do not like my back being pushed up against the wall like this. I want to shop around and repair whatever is recommended at my own pace not be forced into a costly repair in order to have heat. If I had heat before they came, I should have had it when they left whether I replaced the system or not - I cannot say this enough. I tried to resolve this issue with the company. I received a call from one of the owners. She was very rude and condescending and no customer should be treated the way she treated me. She barley let me get a word in, ending my sentences, talking over me, etc. She stated that she spoke with the techs and that the heat was not working when they got their and that it is their word against mine. Well no, they sent me an email stating that my system was in operation so how can you now say that my heat was not working. She then remarked, one of the techs said you were sitting on the couch with a blanket. At that point, I knew she was reaching!!! Sitting on the couch with a blanket does not mean that someone does not have heat, its comfort. I am not sure if she is trying to cover up something that she knows went wrong or if the techs are being dishonest with her. If she speaks to them the way that she was speaking to me, they are probably scared to tell her that they broke the oil pump. She did not offer to have someone else come take a look at it. In fact, she said that if they got it back working they will red tape it. I do not believe that this is out of concern, I think it is a threat to keep me from complaining. We needed a plumber to install 2 toilets and a sink and scheduled an appointment with County Wide. They were a no-show which was the first bad sign. We re-scheduled for the next day. The following day the plumber finally showed up and was a little loud. I explained we had a child doing some remote schooling. He quieted down and inspected the work to be done--told us how the sink installation was going to be a problem and involved tearing the counter top out. He clearly did not want to take that on so we asked him to forget the sink and get the 2 toilets installed. He then told us his truck was low on supplies and he did not have the necessary supply lines to install the 2 toilets despite having a work order to install a pair of toilets. He left to get what he needed. A little less than an hour later, he returned and spent another 20 minutes cleaning out his truck. Then he finally got started inside. As he worked, both of the old toilets were damaged during the removal. He couldn't replace one of them with the new toilet because the drain flange was damaged. Ultimately, he was able to install 1 toilet. Also disturbing was that he would interact with our son while he was "in school" online and did so with his mask lowered. For our troubles we got a $500 bill, 1 working toilet, 1 bathroom with a rag stuffed into the waste pipe and no response from the company management despite 2 promises of callbacks to discuss the poor service call. Painted on the side of their trucks is the slogan "How can we make your day great?" My answer would be to not do business with County Wide. read more

We called them because the Air Handler in our attic was leaking water. The technician was very professional and likable, but an hour after he left our house there was more water leaking from the ceiling from the Air Handler in the attic. Called their office and they didn't seem to be concerned at all. I asked to speak to the owner, and was told i would receive a call back from them - no one ever called me back. I had to hire another company and he fixed the problem in 10 minutes and charged me half what they charged. I should have read their reviews before hiring them because they seem to have a pattern of behavior. If there is a problem after they get paid they won't call you back and they obviously don't care about your home. They never emailed me my credit card receipt either... read more

We ended up hiring another company but after the job was finished, the leak persisted and turns out it was the refrigerator on the other side of the wall. $7,000 down the drain. read more

We encountered County Wide Mechanical Services at a home show in Hartford, Ct. I called and asked for an appointment for a quote on replacing deteriorating duct work in our attic. The receptionist, who was very polite and accommodating, informed me that our inquiry was most in line with their service and that they would send a capable and experienced person to give us a quote. He arrived on a Thursday and I was impressed with his knowledge and recommendations, including options, for the work we were seeking. He stated several times that he would send us a quote by next morning. This turned out to be a total waste of our time. I called days later, spoke with a very nice receptionist, she verified my email, and then I received a major advertisement in my email. After a week, still no response. This is classical contractor BS. I understand that they are likely very busy, especially after a show. But no follow up contact to a serious inquiry? All they had to do was inform us that their schedule was too full, or that we are too far from their base, or just SOMETHING rather than have us wallow in a pool of waiting and wondering. In this day and age of multiple communication options, there is no excuse for this. Even if they do respond now, I don't want such irresponsibility to resurface during contracted work. And I don't think I should have to chase after a contractor waving money in the air. Contractors are notorious for this - it is not a new experience for us. But in this age of communication, the consumer is hopefully empowered to hold such folks responsible in hopes that others will steer away from rewarding this slovenly business practice by not contacting home service contractors like County Wide Mechanical Services in the first place. Sadly, it undermines the efforts of perhaps a few decent individuals who do work for this company. read more

County Wide (CW) installed our Mitsubishi ductless heating/cooling system in late April 2018. The system is 2 outdoor units with 3 6,000 BTU and 3 12,000 BTU units inside. We had gotten 3 quotes and CW's was the best...by far. We just had to move some furniture. They did everything else...as they should At one point they had 8 people here working. They completed the project in 2 days. They worked long & hard. We have had the system running for over 9 months now. We have no issues with either the equipment or CW's work. I know the project was challenging for them because our house was built about 300 years ago. I was and am happy with their work and do recommend them. read more

Absolutely awful and unprofessional service. We were having a plumbing issue, explained what was happening and they sent someone to come check it. They were on the phone with customer support the whole time, and charged us for having to call customer support. Told us what the problem might be, charged us for this visit ($400!!) and then came back to fix the issue. Fixing it took them less than 30 minutes, and they charged us an additional $600. Problem was never fixed, so we called them again. We told them we have already spent $1,000 and the problem is not solved, and the young lady on the phone said we would not be charged for the check up visit. They arrive, and again call customer support the whole time they are here. They tell us what they think the problem is, and tell us we have to pay an additional $800 for the visit. When we asked for a breakdown of the costs, they refused to give to us. the invoice just says $800. For what? For an issue that is not fixed. Called the manager and they were absolutely unprofessional and accusatory, accusing us that we should have called our contractor since he's the one that had installed the hot water heater. We thought it was a plumbing issue, like a blockage, which is why we called THEM. Accused us by saying that we probably didn't want to call the contractor because he was not licensed. SO ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL and that doesn't include some of the other things they told us. I cannot believe it. So we've spent $1,800 for NOTHING. The folks at County Wide Mechanical were helpful and responsive during each step of the project. I had a Mitsubishi heating unit installed. Within one day of the initial call, Ken showed up to provide me with a quote. The price was significantly less than the next lowest quote. I explained that I needed the unit installed ASAP. He was able to accommodate my request. Two installers from CWM and their electrician arrived on time and completed the installation. So far everything seems to be working properly. We hired County Wide to replace an aging a/c system on June 25, 2018. There is not enough space here for me to adequately express all the issues we encountered but I cannot be any stronger in my disdain for this company. I will simply say that all the fears a homeowner has about hiring unscrupulous and unqualified contractors were realized with this company. Not only did the system not function from the very first day of installation but the company has still not resolved the issues after 3 months and 11 separate service calls. Management simply does not care! They talk a great game about service and standing behind their work but there is absolutely no follow through. It honestly seemed as if the company just gave up on the job and wrote it off. Front desk staff were always polite but whenever we called to speak to the installation, service or operations managers they were ALWAYS "unavailable" or "on another call". Even the staff seemed embarrassed repeating the same thing each time. Promises were made and broken, time after time after time. Each technician would come out and swear he would make "your problem my problem" and then never be heard from again! It was surreal! The salesman who sold us the job quit before it was completed but not before giving us an earful about the internal management and personnel issues the company was undergoing and the resulting poor quality of their service. Just a disgruntled employee? Possibly, but our experience bears out all his comments. We ultimately had to hire another contractor to assist us since County Wide was doing nothing. The new contractor found so many problems that they determined the system was unsalvageable. I might have been skeptical if I hadn't experienced County Wide's incompetence first hand. The new contractor was hesitant to disparage another HVAC contractor but finally admitted he'd never before seen an installation done so poorly. We had to remove all the work County Wide did and reinstall new equipment from the beginning. We now, finally, have a functioning a/c system. We've subsequently checked with the State and learned that three of the County Wide employees who worked on our system were not licensed at the time the work was performed. We currently have complaints filed with the Department of Consumer Protection and the state Attorney General's office. Fortunately we were able to stop payment on the check before it was processed so we did not lose any money. What this interaction did cost us was an entire summer filled with anger, frustration and a lot of hot days at home. I hope to spare other homeowners the horrible experience we had. This company is FANTASTIC. I would highly recommend using them for your HVAC and other home improvement needs. We interviewed a lot of companies for our job, which was a complete replacement of an old oil furnace, old a/c unit, reducting of the entire upper floor (which was getting only minimal airflow), replacement of the water heater, and a conversion to propane. Their quotes were very competitive, and I chose them based on their great customer service, knowledge, and helpfulness. I have since met some of the family members who own the business, as they have come out after hours (they live in our town) to check on things or fix minor problems throughout the process. They have been extremely courteous and helpful, following up (even when I took a while to get back to them) on all our concerns, and we are very satisfied with our system. I'm quite confused with a few of the very negative reviews that I noticed when writing this one, because we've dealt with quite a few employees, and can't imagine where this would have come from. They did have a salesperson who no longer works there who caused some issues ... but they did their best to follow up after him to make sure the customers were taken care of. One of my neighbors did a similarly big job, and he is very satisfied as well. read more

I wish I could write a review of their actual services, but I couldn't even get them to show up at my home! Reached out to them in September for a boiler cleaning. The earliest they could book me for a "first appt of the day" was October 11. Due to a number of "no heat emergencies" they reschedule my appointment for October 19. Got a call on the 18th that they had to reschedule AGAIN. This time the earliest they could get me in was "second appointment of the day" on October 23. I needed an early morning appointment so that I didn't have to miss too much work to be home for the appointment. 2nd appointment of the day wasn't ideal, but I expected that would put me in around a 9am time frame. 10:15 rolls around and no one has come and I haven't received a call. I call and speak to Fran in Customer Service. Explain to her that I was supposed to be the 2nd appointment of the day so I was a little frustrated that no one had come yet. She looked at the schedule and told me that I was in the 12-2 window. I never would have agreed to that if that was communicated to me from the beginning. I expressed my concern and frustration that I have now missed hours of work waiting. She put me on hold to go speak to someone in scheduling and instead hung up. I call back and get Christina. I tell her that I was just on the phone with Fran and we got disconnected. She tells me that Fran is on another call and that I need to call back later! (At this point I'm really irritated!) A few minutes later Dakota in scheduling calls me back. She tells me that I am the second appointment of the day but the first appointment was a no heat emergency and was taking a lot longer than anticipated. She said he was just finishing up but still could not give me an idea of when I could expect someone at my house. I again explained to her that I was missing hours of work for this appointment, there was a reason that I needed an early morning appointment and I found that to be unacceptable. She was rather unsympathetic and simply said "we're actually rescheduling all of our maintenance appointments for today anyway. I can get you back on the schedule in mid-November." There was zero effort on her part to even try to gain or keep me as a customer. I told her after getting reschedule twice and the lack of communication I just wanted to cancel. And that was it. Now I will be finding a new company. I would give zero stars if that was possible. read more
