What's more convenience than getting a massage in your own home??? Exactly...nothing is better :) I had my first in home massage by Maurice this afternoon and it was perfect. Lucky for me I only had to work a half day and scheduled my massage for 1 pm. The clock struck 1 and I heard a knock at the door. I was shock. Most places I go to there about 5 to 10 minutes late. Maurice was right on time. I was curious to see how the travel massage bed would work and surprisingly it's pretty much the same as a regular massage bed at the spa. You can even have it heated, although I opted not to since today was a scorcher. (See massage bed pic below) The massage itself was wonderful! I asked for a deep tissue/ Swedish massage. The pressure was right on and I really felt the kinks in my neck and back subside. I sit at a computer all day and the strong pressure really helped the soreness in my neck. I relaxed to the point of almost falling asleep. He brings music with him and the jazz added to the relaxation. I was sad when it ended, but how sweet is it to wake up in your own home afterwards. Nap time right away :) After experiencing an in home massage it'll be hard to frequent a spa. I totally recommend massage by Maurice!

We received an email before our visit asking if we would be able to switch our 10:30 appointments to 8:00 am or 11:45 am to accommodate another guest interested in services. Since we were visiting from out of town and had other plans, we were not able to switch to these times but eventually agreed to move to 9:15 even though it was not our preferred time. The attendants upon arrival were very friendly and welcoming. The eucalyptus steam sauna was closed for repair, which was not indicated when we booked. The dry sauna and hot tub were very small. As the morning went on it got incredibly busy. There were so many people waiting for appointments that there weren't enough chairs in the relaxation room, and it was very crowded by the vanity/mirrors and showers. Our treatments we good, not spectacular for the cost, but we expected expensive treatments on a busy weekend in Chicago. We were offered complimentary enhancements for switching appointment times-a face mask or eye mask. A nice touch but not nearly worth switching our plans around for. We had separate reservations to begin with but somehow when we were asked to move our reservation times, we were put on the same reservation. As a result, I was charged for my friend's service. We each made multiple calls to the spa to try to get it corrected. After at least four attempts to get it corrected over the phone, I emailed the spa. It took 8 days from when we were at the spa for them to begin processing a refund to my card. We were very surprised by all of this, especially at such a luxury spa.

This time, I decided to schedule a mani & pedi at the end of my week stay as an added treat. When I tell you that I was shocked by my experience here, I mean it. There was nothing luxurious about this at all. And these are absolute top-tier prices for their services. They took me down the stairs after I checked in and I waited in this dark area as people were randomly walking back and forth from the pool area. A woman escorted me into this insanely small room (it looks like a closet) where there were 2 pedicure chairs right next to each other then 2 manicure stations across from that. I truly was shocked. I wanted to leave. Their website and spa detail information is so insanely misleading. This small room they cram you into has no windows, and is at the end of a dark hall. Forget that we are still dealing with the pandemic and there is zero social distancing. The two nail techs that were working were lovely but so obviously under appreciated & overworked. Which is beyond sad. My pedicure was ok but my manicure was the worst I've ever received. I wanted a French tip and the tech haphazardly painted each tip with a regular brush. Not one was the same. I also walked out and came right back to get some nail polish remover to clean up my own hands as I had white polish all over my skin. Just insane. The receptionist was appalled when I showed her my nails so she said she would take it off my bill ($65) was removed but I still paid over $150 plus tip for my mani and pedi. In my personal option, they should close down the manicure and pedicure options of the spa. It is not a luxury, high end experience. Quite the opposite. This was not a great way to end our stay here & it put such a bad taste in my mouth. I won't ever come back to the spa for any service at all.

Now, I DO have severe cat allergies and found out Lupe has no pets, if it matters. Shannon, one of their massage therapists, has two. So, I could not have been around her due to my cat dander issue. The atmosphere is calming and clean. You must take off your shoes in their front area. I did and they offered me slippers but I just walked in my clean socks on a clean floor. All good. The room was wonderful. My lungs are a bit sensitive to smells, but I wore a mask and I was fine. I got the 70min lymph massage and it walked out of there lighter than I have been in a long time. My lymph systems seems to not like me very much, frustrating. She had my system flowing and going! Lupe said it normally takes her 2 passes but she had to do 3 or more to get my stuck lymphs going. She is a like the RotoRooter of the lymphatic system. LOL We talked about Lipedema and the Lymph system. She is really smart with the Lymph system. Afterwards she brought me followup care instructions, a cup of water, and a tea bag for my lymph to use tomorrow morning. The massage itself was exactly what I had hoped for and maybe a bit more. Did I have a sudden six-pack like other places show on social ads? Ummm, no. And nore did I expect it. Did my legs feel lighter, incredibly so. I will book one for next month too, once my schedule starts to form. They were NOT pushy about it either. I had an in-cal massage at his home last week and it was great. First massages are usually (and should be) somewhat evaluative for both involved. Andy did a good job of balancing a moderate amount of pressure and not over-doing it. The resulting euphoria left me feeling great... although my 23mph drive home probably annoyed everyone behind me. He was pleasant to talk with and projects the professional attitude one would expect from a massage therapist dedicated to his craft.
