I had lots of spa options to choose from but decided to visit after seeing that Ms. Whitney Houston went to Renee's back in the day. Also, I spoke with Renee on the phone before booking I felt assured that the service would be great. I had a body scrub and hot stone massage. Both were great. My masseuse was Polish and rubbed me down well. The spa is conveniently located in the downtown area and is a short walk from hotels that are along the river. Was looking for a day spa to treat a relative and myself, when I found this place on Yelp. Called them up a few days prior to schedule. Scheduled their Gold Special (50 minute European facial & 50 minute Swedish massage for $160) for 2. Arrived on time. Located on the 7th floor of an older office building; seems out of place for a day spa. Upon arrival I needed to use the bathroom which is located down the hall outside the spa and had a key to use. As for the facial and massage, both were fantastic. It was warm and quiet, so very easy to escape the cold and traffic below. The massage alone made the day worth it! My sisters and I took my mom here for her birthday to be pampered. We got "The Works" package which included a massage, facial, mani & pedi. Kasha was my masseuse and I can't recommend her enough! She had perfect pressure and made sure I was comfortable. My mom and sister had Sylvia as her masseuse and loved her as well! The facial was a basic one (cleanse, steam, extraction & mask). The mani & pedi were another plus for a spa day staple. Yolanda was my nail tech and she made sure my nails were perfect. It's a small business which made our experience even better as the owner was available and so accommodating! My mom's nails smudged and Renee made sure to have them fixed. Can't rave enough about this place. Quality service for a good price! I was nervous at first because they asked for the full payment at the time I made my appointment but maybe it was because we had so many girls at once. Either way, it all worked out and was legit. No frills environment put me off initially but my back has never felt better. The woman who did my massage--I wish I could remember her name--told me she gave a hot stone massage using a technique from her country. Oh my gosh. The hot stones melted into my sore muscles. I was just visiting Chicago but next time I might plan a trip around the longest hot stone massage I can get with this masseuse. I've had so many massages--this was the best massage I've ever experienced. It was only my first time there and she quickly was attuned to my body and getting the knots out in a painless, relaxing manner. I have flashbacks to this massage I got over the summer and I will need to come back again! I didn't think the price aligned with the location at first but I'd pay it all again for that massage! Wow - and not in a good way. Place is clean enough but outdated and in a rundown building. That said I'm fine with a no frills environment but it was so underwhelming especially at $100 an hour. I asked for a deep tissue massage and said to the therapist (Jess) that I would like a lot of pressure, particularly to focus on my neck and shoulders. Pretty much it was getting myself slathered all over with oil/moisturizer and patted and had the sheets adjusted. It also seemed like time was being used up/wasted as she moved around getting the hot stones - why bother as they were applied ineffectively. I tried the positive reinforcement approach and let her know when the pressure was decent but those times were fleeting. She said my muscles were really tight- true that's why I was there for a massage. Occasionally I would get a little pressure and then just rubbing. Horrible. Made appointments for me and my boyfriend at 2:15 for a massage and manicure. I was left waiting for 30 minutes before anyone even spoke to me, woman with dark black hair is very rude. I told her I wanted a upgrade to no chip manicure and instead of telling me it would be a longer wait and letting me decide if I wanted that she just walked away without saying anything, she has a horrible attitude by the time someone acknowledged me I did not have time to even get a manicure that is why I made it for a specific time. Never. again. This was the worst facial I have ever gotten and I do not understand the glowing reviews. It was these reviews that led me to this salon, which makes me question how I select venues in the future. I really wonder if this place pays yelp to take down negative reviews... I first made an appointment, to which Renee called an hour before the morning of my appointment to cancel. Apparently the woman who was to give me my facial called out sick. No problem - I really didn't mind as these things happen. I re-scheduled with Renee and when I came in she apologized for having to cancel my last appt. because of the snow outside. Hmm...so she lied to me the first time. Okay, I'm still okay as long as the facial is good. The facial was bad. Real real bad. Part of the reason I periodically get facials, massages, pedicures, etc. is to have a relaxing experience. This woman went on and on and on about I have no idea what. Asking me questions and talking into my face while she performed the facial. She INSISTED I get a facial peel (for extra $$ mind you) and when I politely declined she wouldn't shut up about how I really should get it and I was missing out. The woman would not stop talking. She also had the steamer blowing directly at my nose and mouth so I could not breathe. I know it doesn't need to be this way because I have subsequently gotten amazing facials where they place the steamer in a position so you can breathe. After non-stop talk about the peel she put a mask on me and left the room for about 30 minutes. Why the heck am I paying for an hour massage if you just plop a mask on me and leave the room for half of it? She could have applied lotions, given a massage, etc. She came back into the room smelling of food, removed the mask, and that was the end of the facial. Part of her earlier ramblings was an insistence that I purchase this one lotion she sells, so when it came time to pay she put some of the lotion in her hand and made me smell it. Unfortunately it smelled like whatever she was eating and I wanted to throw up. She assumed I would purchase it and when I again politely declined, she was snappy with me and said something like "well it's your face, I'm just trying to help." No no no, on all counts. She had the audacity to ask for a tip, to which I gave one because I felt bad. Never again. There are so many better places to get a facial. Facials are not cheap, so the quality and service should be good. I'm not paying to sit in a dark room alone for thirty minutes and be lectured. Ugh. I also think it's strange that half the reviewers for this place have only written one review total on yelp. That may be a good way to filter for places in the future. read more

Had a day to spare and decided I needed to de-stress and treat myself to a day at the spa. I called around opening time on the Saturday morning of Easter weekend and asked if they might be able to squeeze me in. And squeeze me in they did - I booked myself an appointment at noon for "The Works" spa package, complete with a European facial, Swedish massage, manicure and whirlpool pedicure. The services run for about 3.5 hours for $240, which is pretty reasonably priced especially for the quality of services you are getting. This is a no-frills, clean and quiet day spa that runs efficiently but does not make you feel rushed. It is run by Eastern Europeans, mainly Polish ladies who were really good at what they did. My massage got out all of my kinks and my facial was very much cleansing (they did a VERY thorough job especially with extractions). My only complaint was my manicure had some bubbling under the top coat but was otherwise good. They do not ask you to fill out any paperwork or disclosures of medical conditions, so if you do have any specific issues you want your massage therapist or esthetician to address, you need to mention it to them yourself. read more

I found this to be off putting since this is my first time there. She said it's because people haven't been showing up to their appts - but I assured her that this is for my bridal shower and I'm calling in advance and I will be there. Such a relaxing manicure experience! The spa is clean, decorated largely with white furniture and accents, which makes the space feel clean and rejuvenating. I got the no chip manicure which ran me $45 - expensive versus manicures where I'm from in Texas but standard for this area. This salon has a great selection of neutral gel colors as well as a few neon and more bold shades. I got the gel OPI Don't Bossa Nova Me Around - a lovely soft mauve. My nails look great! My therapist wasn't very cordial. However I will say that the massage itself was EXCELLENT. So if you looking for a quick, relatively affordable and convenient massage, this is the place.
