I come here often because the food is great! I stopped by on a Monday afternoon and ordered a bagel and coffee, and both were delicious. My only complaint was the loud heavy metal music playing. This was my first time visiting this shop during the morning rush and I was very happy to fulfill my morning craving. The shop was busy with morning commuters and school teens getting their morning fix before heading to their destinations. Once inside I did not wait long to place my order, although it took a little time to review the menu before finalizing my decision. I went with the Lox Deluxe on everything bagel toasted and boy it was delicious. The bagel was soft yet crispy on the outside and the combination of flavors from the red onion, capers, cream cheese and tomato was just right. The space is roomy enough with several tables to dine-in and it is also kept clean, which is optimal. Look forward to visiting again to try a different menu item, perhaps during lunch. read more

I came here for breakfast while I was traveling for work. I was looking for a place with a vegan breakfast sandwich and this was close by. I ordered V4. It V2 -- it came with a vegan egg, beyond sausage, vegan cheddar, onions, and jalapeños. I appreciated that the ingredients were fresh. I do wish it was more flavorful. I think it would have improved with a sauce (maybe a pesto) or if the jalapeños were pickled. That said, the bagel was good and it overall tasted good. I also got an orange juice. The bottle said fresh squeezed and it tasted like other fresh squeezed OJ -- that is to say that I had no complaints! It was a fairly busy space. I do wish they had better insulation -- it got cold whenever someone opened the door (and that was frequent as it's a popular spot in the neighborhood). Service was also fairly quick. If you're coming to Court Street bagels strictly for the bagels (and maybe cream cheese), this spot is ELITE. The bagels are perfectly chewy and not too dense in the middle. I'm absolutely obsessed with the pumpernickel, but you can't go wrong with any of them. That being said, I'm more of a bagel sandwich than a bagel and cream cheese girly (because protein). I really enjoy the sandwiches I've had (particularly anything with lox or eggs). The sandwiches are fresh and decently portioned. I do find they can be a little bland/under-seasoned (nothing that a little hot sauce can't fix), but the bagels alone are absolutely worth the trip! I tried ordering a sausage, egg, and cheese and they were out of sausage by the time I ordered (it was still the morning hours so I was kindve surprised), no biggie though! I went with a sesame bagel toasted with plain cream cheese. These bagels were hefty. Like really thick bagels. I've had NY bagels before, but this one was really thick and really dense. I can't say it's the best one I've had, but the service was quick and there's a constant flow of people ordering and waiting for their food so beware-- it can be pretty crammed if you're trying to snag a seat inside. read more

There was practically no line for a weekday morning. The bagel shop was super hot with a lot of employees suggesting that the business would for sure pick up. I got the toasted everything bagel with scallion cream cheese which was delightful. I can't believe a bagel w/ cream cheese is now over 6 dollars, which seems to be the average now/the norm due to inflation. The bacon egg and cheese on a toasted sesame bagel left a lot to be desired. The bagel was 90% of the meal with barely any bacon and egg. I walked by on a Saturday morning and saw that the line didn't spill outside like it usually does and decided to go in for a bagel. The order/payment process was relatively fast but then the wait for the bagels began, and went on, and on...By the time I got called up I checked against the time on the receipt and 23 MINUTES had passed. My order was a plain bagel with cream cheese and a sesame bagel with lox and cream cheese. Nothing difficult or time consuming. By the time I was called up to get my bagels, I was told they had run out of plain bagels. What? This is a bagel shop on a Saturday at 11am. I just waited for 23 minutes. How do you run out of plain bagels so fast? Needless to say the whole experience left me more than annoyed and there's plenty of other bagel shops in the sea. read more

This is probably more like a 3.5 but I've been on a mission to try a new bagel place semi-regularly and this was my one this morning because a friend and I were headed to the NY Transit Museum which is nearby. The location is cute and like many things in the city, lovingly cramped. One thing that irritated me was that the pick-up area is right in front of the door and the line to order is all the way in the back which means we had to fight through the morning crowd just to look at the menu let alone order. I had a toasted sesame bagel with garlic & herb cream cheese because I figured that was a safe bet for trying a new place (I tend not to branch out unless I can at least trust the basics of a place). The friend I was with got an untoasted french toast bagel with strawberry cream cheese to which she complained that her bagel was very tough (we had recently tried another place that was so fresh we had no problems with untoasted bagels) and said it tasted like she was having a day-old bagel. I thought with mine being toasted it might be better but I still ran into a similar problem. Also, like most bagel places I've seen they charge for cream cheese and charge even more for flavored cream cheese. I expected a bit more bang for my buck because I felt like for the size of the bagel they offer (which is a good size and was very filling!!) I should have gotten more cream cheese. The sesame bagel wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked but was still yummy, slight chewiness aside. The garlic & herb cream cheese didn't taste like much which was disappointing considering, once again, they charge extra for flavored cream cheese. I wanted to get pictures, but we were almost late for our reservation time at the museum so no dice! Service was nice and was relatively efficient for how busy it was on a Saturday morning. It's nice that they give you a ticket because some bagel places just call out whatever you ordered and hope for the best (which is brave considering I used to work in service and the amount of grown adults who seem to forget what they ordered the moment I try to confirm is scary). I came on a busy weekend morning so I'm willing to give this place the benefit of the doubt and maybe try it again at a calmer time, however I work during the week so I have no idea when that will be! read more

Hot mess (in a bad way). The bagel was mediocre. The real issue here was the complete lack of organization and wait time. I went with a friend and when we ordered we were told it would be a 25 minute wait. We said that was fine. 25 minutes later my bagel came out (they gave me egg when I ordered sesame) but my friends did not come for 55 (fifty five!) minutes - despite us ordering the exact same thing at the exact same time. And we were not the only people it happened to. The entire place was packed with people who's orders had been forgotten and had waited over an hour. 10/10 bagel shop in Brooklyn! My friend and I walked over the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan just to try it after researching the best bagel shop in NYC. Well worth the walk! Be prepared to wait, it's a small place but they work fast. It's also CASH ONLY, so plan accordingly! Lots of bagel options, and even more cream cheese options to pair. I went with the Sundried Tomato cream cheese on Everything Bagel. Look at those chunks of tomato! There was no shortage of shmear on that bagel. My friend got the Apple Cinnamon cream cheese on a plain bagel and raved over it, too. We also witnessed the sweetest thing while there. The owner is super hands on, I get the sense he's there every day. A couple of patrons didn't realize it was a cash only place and got to the point of paying when they realized it. The owner kindly told them it was no problem, to just come back later to settle up with him. I thought that was so kind of him! It really says a lot about him and his business. He truly cares about his patrons. I was also amazed at how cheap it was! I think my bagel with cream cheese and a Diet Coke can was $4.50! ordered a spinach egg white omelette and the counter guy asked me what kind of bagel I would like. I said an egg bagel. I also ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese and two large coffees. When I got my bag I checked and the egg bagel wasnt there. I said I was supposed to get an egg bagel. I was told it would be extra as the omelettes come with toast. So either the guy at the counter asks what kind of bagel just to drive your bill up or he made a mistake. I told the register person I dont have time to wait for toast. She was like alright goodbye. A couple tiny tables at the front where we could enjoy our breakfast but most people did takeaway. I am a regular customer of court st bagels, even though they are prone to messing up my breakfast sandwich order or serving me uncooked eggs. I return because when they can pull it together, it is a solid sandwich. Today, I wanted lunch, and ordered a chicken cutlet- they messed up my order, serving it on a roll instead of a bagel, but, more importantly, the chicken was disgusting and inedible. I docked a star only because it was a bit expensive for a lox bagel sandwich based on what was given (I've had some that were of the same caliber but less expensive while being even larger). As soon as we arrived, we knew it was the right spot with a long line out the door. We finally made it inside after about 10-15 minutes, so not too bad. They had multiple people taking orders. I got the Deluxe Lox Bagel ($18) on everything bagel, which included tomato and onions with scallion cream cheese. I opted out of the capers since it's not my thing. The bagel is huge and stuffed with so much cream cheese. The contrast of the onions gave it a nice crunch. These bagels are so soft and fluffy inside too. The bagel is delicious although definitely pricey, but I'd say it's pretty normal for a lox bagel in NY. The boyfriend also got the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Bagel ($8). Major side note: As of Monday (yesterday from this review,) Court Street Bagel is now operated under a different owner. Peter; the original owner for ages; was closing the place due to rent issues but it appears to be run by someone else now. Don't have any other details on who is running it and I am unsure if the bagel quality will be the same nor if it'll stay open. You can check the debacle on reddit and other pages. Always a solid quality bagel though their sandwiches were a bit overpriced even for the neighborhood (go to the excellent 24 hour spot on Smith Street/Smith Street Gourmet Deli instead.) When I got a hot one, they were very good but even for the rare times I went for lunch or the times I got a non hot one, they are/were still better than the other spots listed. My usual preference is/was a sesame or poppy with cream cheese not toasted (because a toasted bagel is bread in the shape of a bagel.)
