This was my first time visiting this shop during the morning rush and I was very happy to fulfill my morning craving. I came here for breakfast while I was traveling for work. I was looking for a place with a vegan breakfast sandwich and this was close by. I ordered V4. It V2 -- it came with a vegan egg, beyond sausage, vegan cheddar, onions, and jalapeños. I appreciated that the ingredients were fresh. I do wish it was more flavorful. I think it would have improved with a sauce (maybe a pesto) or if the jalapeños were pickled. That said, the bagel was good and it overall tasted good. I also got an orange juice. The bottle said fresh squeezed and it tasted like other fresh squeezed OJ -- that is to say that I had no complaints! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a fairly busy space. It's not shown in the photos but I was surprised to see several flies hovering around the bagels. Since the bagels are out in the open, I think they definitely should do a better job of keeping them covered to keep flies away. I walked by on a Saturday morning and saw that the line didn't spill outside like it usually does and decided to go in for a bagel. The order/payment process was relatively fast but then the wait for the bagels began, and went on, and on...By the time I got called up I checked against the time on the receipt and 23 MINUTES had passed. My order was a plain bagel with cream cheese and a sesame bagel with lox and cream cheese. Nothing difficult or time consuming. By the time I was called up to get my bagels, I was told they had run out of plain bagels. What? This is a bagel shop on a Saturday at 11am. I just waited for 23 minutes. Hot mess (in a bad way). The bagel was mediocre. The real issue here was the complete lack of organization and wait time. I went with a friend and when we ordered we were told it would be a 25 minute wait. We said that was fine. 25 minutes later my bagel came out (they gave me egg when I ordered sesame) but my friends did not come for 55 (fifty five!) minutes - despite us ordering the exact same thing at the exact same time. And we were not the only people it happened to. The entire place was packed with people who's orders had been forgotten and had waited over an hour. This is probably more like a 3.5 but I've been on a mission to try a new bagel place semi-regularly and this was my one this morning because a friend and I were headed to the NY Transit Museum which is nearby. I had a toasted sesame bagel with garlic & herb cream cheese because I figured that was a safe bet for trying a new place (I tend not to branch out unless I can at least trust the basics of a place). The friend I was with got an untoasted french toast bagel with strawberry cream cheese to which she complained that her bagel was very tough (we had recently tried another place that was so fresh we had no problems with untoasted bagels) and said it tasted like she was having a day-old bagel. I thought with mine being toasted it might be better but I still ran into a similar problem. Also, like most bagel places I've seen they charge for cream cheese and charge even more for flavored cream cheese. I expected a bit more bang for my buck because I felt like for the size of the bagel they offer (which is a good size and was very filling!!) I should have gotten more cream cheese. The sesame bagel wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked but was still yummy, slight chewiness aside. The garlic & herb cream cheese didn't taste like much which was disappointing considering, once again, they charge extra for flavored cream cheese. I wanted to get pictures, but we were almost late for our reservation time at the museum so no dice! Service was nice and was relatively efficient for how busy it was on a Saturday morning. It's nice that they give you a ticket because some bagel places just call out whatever you ordered and hope for the best (which is brave considering I used to work in service and the amount of grown adults who seem to forget what they ordered the moment I try to confirm is scary). I came on a busy weekend morning so I'm willing to give this place the benefit of the doubt and maybe try it again at a calmer time, however I work during the week so I have no idea when that will be! read more

10/10 bagel shop in Brooklyn! My friend and I walked over the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan just to try it after researching the best bagel shop in NYC. Well worth the walk! Be prepared to wait, it's a small place but they work fast. It's also CASH ONLY, so plan accordingly! Lots of bagel options, and even more cream cheese options to pair. I went with the Sundried Tomato cream cheese on Everything Bagel. Look at those chunks of tomato! There was no shortage of shmear on that bagel. My friend got the Apple Cinnamon cream cheese on a plain bagel and raved over it, too. We also witnessed the sweetest thing while there. The owner is super hands on, I get the sense he's there every day. A couple of patrons didn't realize it was a cash only place and got to the point of paying when they realized it. The owner kindly told them it was no problem, to just come back later to settle up with him. I thought that was so kind of him! It really says a lot about him and his business. He truly cares about his patrons. I was also amazed at how cheap it was! I think my bagel with cream cheese and a Diet Coke can was $4.50! I return because when they can pull it together, it is a solid sandwich. I enjoyed a lox bagel sandwich from here while chilling at Brooklyn Heights Promenade with its magnificent cityscape (well, as magnificent as it can be from the current poor air quality). As soon as we arrived, we knew it was the right spot with a long line out the door. We finally made it inside after about 10-15 minutes, so not too bad. They had multiple people taking orders. I got the Deluxe Lox Bagel ($18) on everything bagel, which included tomato and onions with scallion cream cheese. I opted out of the capers since it's not my thing. The bagel is huge and stuffed with so much cream cheese. The contrast of the onions gave it a nice crunch. These bagels are so soft and fluffy inside too. The bagel is delicious although definitely pricey, but I'd say it's pretty normal for a lox bagel in NY. The boyfriend also got the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Bagel ($8). Major side note: As of Monday (yesterday from this review,) Court Street Bagel is now operated under a different owner. Peter; the original owner for ages; was closing the place due to rent issues but it appears to be run by someone else now. Always a solid quality bagel though their sandwiches were a bit overpriced even for the neighborhood (go to the excellent 24 hour spot on Smith Street/Smith Street Gourmet Deli instead.) When I got a hot one, they were very good but even for the rare times I went for lunch or the times I got a non hot one, they are/were still better than the other spots listed. My usual preference is/was a sesame or poppy with cream cheese not toasted (because a toasted bagel is bread in the shape of a bagel.)
