Man this hotel needs some up dating! It is not a horrible place but it is getting long in the tooth. Needs to update plugs in room, fix the smell, redo the bathroom... it is just old. It had a musty smell when I checked in. It's a good thing I was not here long or I would have changed hotels for sure. read more

The staff was really nice, and the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Parking is free. But the view was pretty bad and I was woken up at 12:45 by someone/multiple people stomping around in the room above me or next to me- for 30 minutes!! I could not tell where the sounds were coming from but it was so loud!! I just laid there for 30 minutes hoping everyone was ok! I'd booked this property last minute because I worked late in Elgin and wanted to avoid a long, snowy commute; usually I stay at the Hoffman Estates Marriott. I wanted to try a different Marriott and this looked cute online and the pool looked good. I was really looking forward to a swim, dinner, then solid sleep. Unfortunately both the pool and the bar/cafe were both closed! Also, an elevator was out of order. I drove down the street to Jewel grocery store for food, which was adequate, but I am bummed I didn't get to swim because the pool was out of order. And I definitely didn't get a solid night's sleep. I selected this location because it's close to my office. This is when convenience did not work out in my favorite. The location was ideal for work and the neighborhood has several restaurants that I would highly recommend. The hotel is in desperate need of an update. Gives the feel of no love since opening. Peeling tub and wallpaper, a bed that feels like you are sleeping on all the encyclopedias returned from the 80s and a television from the first day that flat screen tvs came out with cable that feels like dial up. The front desk staff member was kind, so that was a plus. I made it through this trip, but I won't return. read more

My wife and I wanted a place to stay while we were visiting our daughter in Chicago. This is going to sound funny, but part of the reason we picked this place is because they have Netflix available on the television, so we can watch all of our shows. And, the price was reasonable, so here we are. After three straight days at a place, you begin to appreciate it. The beds are comfortable: not quite as much as my bed at home, but still very good. Everything is well-maintained. We never had a reason to use the "bistro" - a café that was open for breakfast and dinner - but it's nice having that as an option. The mini store had a nice variety of things, for reasonable prices. And, even though it's a small touch, we loved the jars of chocolate and other candies and cookies that were available every day. The coffee was good quality, and always available. The location is also good: there's a movie theater and several stores nearby. And, it's not far from the freeway. As long as hotels.com keeps having this place for a reasonable price, we will keep staying here every time we're in town. read more

Hotel was in a great area, near a few stores and restaurants and safe area. I was here on a business trip and upon check-in, staff were super friendly and met my accommodations such as highest floor. They even called a few hours later to make sure everything was I expected and if I needed anything; definitely went above and beyond. Plenty of parking, I always found a parking spot right in the front. Although, I did always arrive back to the hotel early (630pm ish). Internet/Wi-Fi was great, this was big for me because I was constantly working so needed reliable internet. They have a Starbucks on site, but I didn't have a chance to stop by because there were always a line and I was always in a rush in the morning to get to the office. read more

A very big disappointment. We've been staying at Marriotts for years, but have never come across the huge lack of management that we unfortunately had to endure at this particular location. 1. The first night we had to deal with an ant invasion. I realize the hotel has no control over this, but this was just the tip of the iceberg. We followed their path to our couch and after we moved the couch, we discovered their interest... lots of food leftover from previous guests. The maintenance person came into our room to spray the ants on the balcony with a pesticide. He had on gloves, sprayed the balcony, came into the room and touched the door, curtains and some room furniture with the same gloves that are now covered with pesticide. 2. The second day, we came back to our room in the late afternoon and soon discovered that rust colored water was coming from all of the faucets and shower and toilet in our room. Apparently the city was flushing the hydrants and this happens twice a year. No problem with that... except that our hotel had known about this for days, and decided not to inform the guests. They don't understand that those of us that are staying in the hotel are not from this area and had no idea that this was a regular process in the city. There was no email or notice in the lobby. Instead, we had to go down to the lobby and try and get answers from the staff... The manager stood across from me with his hands on his hips being very rude and defensive when being asked about the quality and safeness of our drinking water and when it would be safe again. 3. Lastly, In the middle of a pandemic, there were 4 separate occasions that I saw the staff not wearing masks. One in particular was when the front desk rep was checking in a customer that also wasn't wearing a mask. I'm not sure why they have a large sign at the entrance saying that everyone has to wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. It became apparent very quickly that staff really doesn't care about the safety and quality of the stay of their clientele. Very sad indeed. We will be staying at one of the nearby hotels the next time we are in town. read more

My daughter and I stayed here for one night when in St. Charles and had a nice stay. This is a great location, just off of Main St, down the road from downtown. We weren't here very much during this time so we didn't have a chance to take advantage of the pool or hot tub, or the breakfast the next morning (it was advertised with a "surcharge" which, when I inquired, simply meant that you paid for what you got.) The room was spacious and clean, and the beds were comfortable. We were on a quiet floor near the ice machine, which was convenient. There was a fridge and an individual coffee maker with standard condiments in the package. The coffee didn't taste very good, yet it did hold me until our run to Starbucks. The Wifi worked well and I liked that we were able to access our Netflix account on their TV, rather than having to surf channels looking for something to watch. The bathroom was also spacious and water pressure was good. Love the Paul Mitchell products. We had very minimal interaction with staff, so I can't comment on that. Checkout was quick and easy. I just handed the lady our key and we were emailed a receipt. Courtyard is a bit more pricey than the budget hotels and for one short night we could have gone cheaper, yet I am kind of a hotel snob and also like the Marriott brand. Would stay here again if needed. read more

The room was fine. It looked recently updated and had all the typical amenities. The hotel itself was quiet. Everything was clean. Here's where things went wrongish: 1. When you use a check card, they tack on an extra $55 until the room's been cleared. This is not posted on the website nor was it explained to us when we paid. It is surprising when you receive an invoice for one amount but there is a larger charge sitting against your account. 2. The customer service in general was really lacking. It was NYE and there were two weddings. Neither of the front desk people seemed capable of handling simple questions and just passed people off back and forth while pretending to be busy. When we went to check out in the morning, both reception area people were dealing with one man on Facetime or Skype regarding a room safe issue. It would have been a comedy except I was ready to get on the road and I found it to be just another sign of poor customer service. 3. The "shuttle" was a school bus. A standard and kind of smelly school bus. We were going to a wedding reception at a nice venue and it was weird to show up in a school bus, especially since there was an actual shuttle sitting out front and there were only about 5 of us leaving at any one time. 4. There isn't a restaurant or bar on site. It's a bistro with a limited menu and some drinks. Also, coffee is not complimentary. Possibly because it's Starbucks brewed coffee. read more

The rooms have been updated. Other than the bathrooms. I wish they had redone the showers to walk in showers and better lighting. The hotel is also very dog friendly. read more

I booked a room at Courtyard the night before my marathon in St. Charles. I picked this hotel because of my past experiences with the Courtyard chain and it happened to be one of the cheapest hotels under our race's group rate. It did not disappoint. The fact that the front desk extended our late checkout a half hour so that we could shower after our race tempted me to give them 5 stars right out of the box, but I didn't want to be one of those annoying reviewers who bases a rating solely on one minor (to you, not me) aspect. The hotel seems to be going through the tail end of a renovation. It's not quite complete, but looks good so far. Aside from some obvious aspects of the lobby that are still a work in progress, I think (hope) the bathrooms are still in need of some work. Most of the bathroom looked updated, but the the finish on the sink's faucet was worn off in parts and mildewy and the wallpaper in the shower had started to peel, only to be repaired by some white caulk. Minor details, but obvious blemishes in an otherwise nice room. The rooms have nice flat screen TVs, free wifi, coffee makers and mini fridges. In this day and age where you have 2-3 devices that require charging, this room had no shortage of conveniently located outlets; two were located on the wall lamps next to the bed making it easy to charge my phone and use it as an alarm. The beds were also quite comfy, I think each bed had 6 pillows on it. The location is very convenient to downtown St. Charles, the nearby mall and a strip of chain restaurants. There's also a grocery store a block away if you need some last minute items. TIP: If you're heading east on 64 toward the hotel, turn on left Industrial Dr.; the Dunham Rd. side is partially obscured by a tree. read more

I felt that the rooms were a bit old and did not match the big splash and nice look of the lobby. The lobby is great and has the new Courtyard look. But I would rather the rooms be upgraded. Also if this is suppose to be a hotel for business users, there needs to be a better chair for the desk. I spent several hours in an uncomfortable chair at the desk in my room. Finally it appears that there are two sets of towels. Some of my towels were a bit old and rough. While some of the towels were newer and nice and soft. I would like to point out that all of the staff was very nice and very helpful. read more

I was here a few years ago, so I thought I would try it again. It is convenient to a lot of restaurants, shopping and anything else you need. The check in tonight was smooth and the front desk girl was friendly and made a few suggestions for dinner. The room was clean, and fresh smelling, but the air unit was off so it was a little stuffy in the room, but not horrible, it did get cool quickly. Overall a nice place. read more

This hotel has obviously been updated, and looks great. The lobby area looks snazzy, and has a restaurant/bar/coffee shop. The pool is small, yes, but is indeed a pool. Our room was gorgeous, with modern wallpaper and carpeting. It was clean and comfortable, and the shower was nice and hot. There is not a free breakfast, but they certainly do offer a decent one for around $8. Starbucks coffee, some fresh fruit and a plate of eggs can be had by all. The front desk staff members were friendly, as was the person who got my breakfast. If you happen to be in St. Charles, I would recommend staying here. read more

I spent one night at this hotel while attending a wedding with my wife. Mostly it was a positive experience. One of my pet peeves is when a hotel advertises free Wi-Fi and them they offer you an "upgrade" to their better Wi-Fi. The free service might have been one of the worst I've ever experienced at 1-3 Mbps (average in the US I believe is 10 Mbps; most developed communities have much higher.) Their "upgrade" cost $6.95/day; problem is you don't know how much of a boost you get without buying it. Feels like just a ploy to get more $. The room/mattress etc. were comfortable. My wife felt the lighting in the bathroom was not adequate for applying makeup. read more

IF you've been to one Courtyard it's pretty standard that you've seen them all. Only the super good ones stand out and this one isn't one of them. Everything here was nothing different than the rest. Same ole basic fitness room - a rather small indoor pool/hot tub - same basic bistro with over microwaved food! However, not even the front desk staff were consistent - there were some good ones and than some that might be better off at a bad McDonald's - I really don't know what has happened to service! read more

The staff here is really helpful and the lobby is quite posh. It reminds me of a boutique hotel with a splashy color palette and a smart combination of stainless steel, architecture tables and more natural-looking uniquely shaped chairs. However, the pool is roughly the size of a large SUV, meaning you and three very close friendly could, in theory, tread water in place together and try not to think about the fact that you would most likely brush each others limbs in the process. The hot tub is even smaller and I would guess even more awkward and best not undertaken amongst strangers ... unless you want it to get really strange. I missed the gym, but there is one. There is free coffee in the lobby from 5 to 11 a.m., but when I rolled out of the hotel at 4 a.m. for a race this morning, there wasn't a soul to be seen. A little creepy. With as updated as the lobby is, the rooms are a bit lacking. The bedding was flat and tired, and the pillow were not at all plush. I hate rooms where the sink is not in the bathroom because I end up waking up my husband getting ready, and of course, this was the case here. My biggest gripe, which is not the hotel's fault but sealed the deal for me nonetheless, was that there were three wedding parties staying there that night. At roughly 2 a.m., we were treated to the melodious sounds of a rather spirited argument that our fellow guests wisely undertook in the hallway of our hotel. I'm sure this robust intellectual debate hosted in such an appropriate venue was in no way influenced by any beverages consumed by said philosophers. And I'm also positive that the flowers lovingly strewn about the hallway the next morning had nothing to do with said discussion. read more

Assistant General Manager Ashley; was absolutely the best part about this stay. There was some mix ups with the original booking and took 2 hours to sort it out with third parties over the phone. Between getting hung upon, call backs, and basically stating I was S.O.L. Ashley stepped up huge and made sure she did everything she could to ensure I got charged for just one stay and the nights that were actually being used. What was originally near an $800 charge for the 2 nights I stayed for a standard room; was fixed to the standard rate and even accommodated for the $15 "booking service fee" that was charged over the original booking. In the world of dealing with other customers, guests or the public; its never going to be a 5/5 or 10/10 experience because we always want more. It's our natural selfishness or desire to want more without being happy and content with what we have. You often times have to make the decision to do the right thing, when you have a tough situation with a guest and accomodations. Ashley stepped up and went above and beyond when a handful of others claimed "because of stipulations, theres nothing we can do." Because of Ashley this stay I will be giving Courtyard Marriott first look at future hotel stays. You have the right person for the job at this St. Charles location. I hope you hire and place all people of this standard in all of your other locations. I hope you do value people here when they certainly deserve it. HOTEL: The hotel overall was in great condition, clean and kept. One of the towels seemed to either have a dirt or stain mark on it, but to me wasn't as much a concern as to others. It seemed clean and was probably just a stain. I generally sleep at home with a very cold room and some hotels don't let the ac go below 70. Even though 70 is generally fine, I was able to set it to 65 and bundled up like a baby. Didn't visit the pool, seemed small but looked clean. Spacious and like the separate shower toilet room. I do think it needs more mirrors in the main area as myself and 2 others were trying to get ready for a wedding and were cramped in the sink closet area. I think thats an easy fix and would be something to look into. Overall, great stay and I will copy this review on other sites, so Ashley and their staff get the Thank You they deserve! Standard lobby coffee and breakfast would have been great if were included, even some muffins and such. read more

It seems as though the Courtyard in St. Charles has been my home away from home lately. I stayed there two different nights this week. I'm a Courtyard fan to start with, but they really impressed me last night (this morning) when there was still someone there to check me in when I arrived at 2:30 AM!! It just sucks that there was road construction around O'Hare and it took me that long to get there at that time of the night/morning...but that's another review. I would give this location five stars, but they haven't updated the rooms to the latest Courtyard layout. The newer configuration is much better for getting work done and you don't have to sit at the desk and have the heat/air conditioning blow directly on your back. Other than that, it's one of the better mid-range hotels I've stayed at in the area and the staff is very accomodating. read more

Hotel management contacted me after my stay and was very friendly and accommodating about the issues. I was not vocal about them when staying there and seems like if you are having an issue with noise, or whatever else, they will go out of their way to alleviate the problem. Also, they are updating their rooms in 2013 so they should be up to the standards of the lobby and other courtyards. So upped it to a 3 star, will be a 4 pending the room update! read more

Decor is modern. Room 307: King room with pull out couch only accommodates three. The pull out is a single bed. The king mattress was terrible and every move of my companion could be felt. The gap in the door is so wide I kept checking to see if it was open. It let in a lot of light at night. While on the third floor, could hear steps above like at grandma's rickety old house. Clear room, but sleeping wasn't ideal or comfortable. read more

We recently stayed at this hotel for a wedding weekend. The hotel itself was fine. When taking the elevator we noticed that the elevator inspection certificate was expired by many months. We joked about it but that was a little alarming. When coming back from the wedding late at night the next day we ended up getting stuck in the elevator at about 12:30 am. The elevator completely shut down and when we called the front desk no apologies were exchanged and she was very abrupt and rude and shrugged off the entire situation stating she would call the fire department but didn't know how long it would take. Eventually the fire department came and it was all resolved. Although we were not in the elevator for more than 30 minutes it was alarming to be treated the way we were as guests stuck in the elevator. When we checked out the next morning we just mentioned again to the front desk that the inspection certificate was expired on the elevator and she laughed at us and said "O you were our lucky guests" almost insinuating it has happened before. She explainEd that they actually just had an inspection in July. If that were true the fire department would definitely have updated the date on the inspection certificate for liability sake. Just a little shocked and disappointed about the customer service thinking about the potential risk involved in this situation with guests at this hotel. someone who may depend on elevators or simply guests in general are not being thought of in this situation. It is disturbing that a hotel would continue to run an elevator that is out of date and not safe for its guests and no apologies or action was taken even after we got stuck in it and mentioned the situation. and interesting situation overall and I hope the elevator inspection happens soon for everyone's safety. read more

Best hotel stay. Ever. There are a few things I look for: good shower head and flow, check. Bacon and eggs breakfast option, check. Enough pillows and blankets in the room, that we don't have to pester the front desk or housekeeping, check. Two extra special things that I liked: most hotel TVs have satellite or cable, but no guide listing. You have to excruciatingly flip through all the channels to find something to watch. Their TV system actually had a guide. Yaay! Now. The. Best. Part. My son left my Pittsburgh Steelers gloves in the lobby when we left. We figured that out soon enough, that we called, and Virginia the front desk person at that time, bless her heart, had them, and was holding on to them for when we came back. Except that alas, we were on our way to the airport! But she took down our address, and sent them back to us. Got them today, from MLK weekend. Yaay! In this day and age of automatic everyone, and customer service where you can't find a way to talk to a real person, Virginia and the Courtyard Marriott at St Charles provided that extra special human touch. :-D read more

I must give this Courtyard hotel 5 Stars for excellent Customer Service. The Manager Barbara drove my family to the train station when the Marriott Van was not available. We enjoyed our family reunion in downtown Chicago, visiting museums and restaurants for more hours thanks to her. I have never seen such dedication in the hotel industry! This hotel is clean, the lobby modern, with a tasty breakfast cafe. I used the gym weights treadmill machines and inviting pool. I especially liked the hotel feature having the elevator and restroom next to the gym and pool, as I always feel uncomfortable crossing the Lobby in my bathing suit or gym clothes. read more
