    Scones plate
    Karen L.

Went for afternoon tea today and it was an interesting experience. First off, the service was great, very attentive and kind. The tea selection was so-so, nine total options of loose leaf tea. Beautiful cups and plate settings though. The food however was pretty awful. The finger sandwiches tasted like they were made a while ago and the bread was stale. The selection was about 80% desserts and then a few of those stale sandwiches. The scones also were hard and didn't taste fresh. We had a lovely time and it was so nice to bring a slice of cake for my friend's birthday. I wouldn't go back simply because the food wasn't worth it... wouldn't recommend.

Ambience and attention to detail are both on point. I've been all over the world and when a reasonably priced hotel gets it right-I am honored to stay there. This place was elegant and unique- stylish with a boutique flare. Definitely going to be my new go to place (other than the Kimpton Gray downtown). Well done Drake. I'll be back!

Went for mother disgusted high tea experience and it wasn't that great as the Chicago Drake! The tea didn't have lot of variety and the sandwiches they served weren't that good The ambience isn't great too there were multiple events happening around that made it loud.

We went for tea time. Great service! Always filling up our tea. Asking if there was anything else we wanted. We also celebrated his birthday and they came and brought a dessert and a saxophone player

I travel a lot for work, so I get to choose where I stay. The Drake was one of the recommended hotels on our booking site, so I decided to give it a try. I'm a Marriott bonvoy titanium elite member, so it was an easy chose. I booked a king room, Marriott members stay that same with breakfast for 2. I took a red eye into the city, so I arrived before 7am. In order to check in early, I had to switch to a double bed! Gladly accepted! I'm town about the hotel. It's updated, but you can tell the building has old bones. If that makes sense. The room was spacious, the beds were comfortable, but the pillows were too soft. The sheets and pillows cases were wrinkled, and there was hair in my shower. Complimentary parking is always a plus. It was just little things that kind of turned me off. The robe was dirty, a few of the towels had markings. I absolutely LOVED how the tea came out. The food was not good to me. The pancakes tasted like fast food. The bacon was far too crispy. The Cajun chicken wrap was sooooo dry! Omg. Then I had to reach out to tell them about my free breakfast because they still charged me for it. Probably wouldn't stay again.

This hotel's tv and internet is terrible experience

This place is weird... seems like a decent wedding venue... not for a hotel... they have clearly spent $$ trying to modernize this 1940's build. Rooms are clean, beds are decent... but the hotel is noisy so many noises at night, hard to even guess where they are all coming from. Lobby reminds me of a Trump bus stop, lots of glitter and gold paint... well worn... Showers are hard to use, water temp is volatile then there is the internet... we checked out early... if you want a small cramped room go downtown Chicago I am a Marriott Titanium for Life member, I've stayed at over 1,000 Marriott hotels.. this was the worst experience I've ever had.

The staff members were friendly and welcoming. Check-in was simple and easy. The room was big, loved the king size bed, comfortable and had a great night sleep. However, few things that need some improvements. The water temp in the shower takes long time before you can feel the hot/warm water. I had to turn on the shower to hot for five minutes before the water got warm. Not sure if the room was far away from the water heater or what, but never had this issue at any other hotels that I stayed in. The left closer door didn't open all the way, as the main doors hinge got in the way. Finally, the hotel is very noisy, be it the folks walking the hallways talking loud, the loud music from the events, etc. If you are looking for a quite place for R&R, might want to reconsider.

Checkin- young lady who checked me in did not go through amentities, packages (that i paid $800+), or property map. I had to ask for direction to the NYE event details. I had to book 2 nights stay individually b/c of the NYE package, which was fine. But the young lady failed to go over the full stay for both days & i wasn't reminded about my $60 breakfast credit until 9p the day before checkout. I ended up having to order breakfast in the room & they charged a $20 service fee, which should've been comped due to the failure to go over the package at checkin. The menu for room service is built into the tv, but the breakfast menu wouldn't populate. I stumbled across a menu online for the hotel & asked the front desk if it was accurate & they said yes. It was indeed not accurate & prices were all about $3-5 more per item, which i discovered after placing my order. Additionally, the new yrs eve dinner & brunch menus were not displayed or provided before, during or after purchasing your packages and i had to ask several times to even get a copy once I arrived & checked in. Some of the front desk workers seemed to have stale taste in their voice as if you were bothering them. When it was actually more of an inconvenience to me to even be calling about these things. Room: the heat was terrible. The vent, thermostat & return vent are all next to each other. So the the temperatures read inaccurately. We had to keep the heat on 82 to get the room warm. Otherwise, the air was cool coming out. The robes that they have (only provided 1 even though we had 2 registered guests) are not plus size friendly, nor did they have an alternative option. Slippers were not provided either. The ice bucket was terrible. Ice melted before you even got back to the room. Additionally after all the back & forth about the $60 breakfast credit that I confirmed was on the account PRIOR to ordering room service. I also confirmed with front desk & the restaurant that the credit was redeemable in room. They still charged my credit card full price for the room service. I did speak with a manager about my stay & outside of refunding me the breakfast charge. His response just seemed to be more along the lines of "thank you for letting us know" and that's about it. We had a lot of options for places to stay & ring in the new year & I'm a bit disappointed at my overall experience here. Overall, the experience was a tad subpar outside of the holiday event, especially the front desk staff that I encountered.

    Igloos
    Lisa S.

This review is for the igloo dining. The concept is very appealing, and the igloos are a good size to hold up to a party of 6 comfortably. Although the food was very good, the service was lacking - I never received my second drink with dinner. The igloo itself was very chilly. They had one small heater in the igloo, and we all kept our coats on and were very cold. It was 34 degrees outside with no wind. If it were any colder, it would be unbearable. Having done it once, I'm glad we had the experience, but I would not choose to do it again.

Came for high tea on a weekend. Be prepared to spend a lot of time here. It is so slow paced you could read a whole book in the time this took. And why? They put all the foods on the three tiered tower at once. So it isn't like they split between savoury and sweet like other places? The delay in getting a check was literally a half an hour from the last time anyone came around. And the tables they cram in here are just too small to accommodate all the things that need to be on them. Food is a meh. Tea is great. The sandwiches are nothing special and the pastries are awful. So dry all across the board on the sweets and nothing impressive. For $55 a person I expect more.

We had a lovely stay at The Drake. A bit of a snafu at the beginning as the automated lock on the door has powered down without battery and it took several trips back and forth to the front desk along with a 30 minute wait for it to be fixed but they were so diligent and worked so quickly to get us in our room. The staff were all wonderful. Our room was gorgeous too. We were in the newly renovated building. Breakfast came with our room rate and we couldn't have been more pleased. We would highly recommend The Drake should you find yourself in the area needing a stay at a hotel.

    Made to order omelette

This review is for the Sunday Champagne Brunch at the Drake Hotel, Oakbrook. Service: The service was great. We were seated right away as we had a reservation. We were greeted by the waiter the moment we sat down. She kept our table free from dirty plates, promptly brought water, coffee and mimosas when needed. Food: I'm giving the food 3 stars. Some of the hot food was room temperature. It was mostly the meat selection. The omelette station was nice and allowed for you to choose from a handful of ingredients. The waffles had a nice crisp to them and the seafood was fresh. Cost: This brunch is $65pp. I believe this is overpriced as there should of been more variety of food options, warmer food and some of the items were a bit bland in taste.

Are there any updates to the hotel room renovations wise?

    Yes

Does the hotel have a shuttle service? What stops are on the route?

Yes, I have used it in the past. As far as I know there are no set stops. just reserve it at the front desk. I used it to and from local restaurants.

I attempted to give this hotel another opportunity after a recent negative experience where they promised to compensate me with 10,000 points and it took 12 follow-ups before anyone ever responded to me. The issue this time revolves around me being blatantly lied to about room availability. I booked a standard room and part of the perk of having status is upgrades upon availability. There were plenty of junior suites available the night in question, but the front desk was guarding them as if their life depended on it. Mind you, this is close to midnight and for one night, so it's not as if they had many opportunities to upsell the rooms. When addressed to management, they weren't very accommodating either and just made more excuses. I'm loyal to Marriott but will choose a better managed property the next time I'm visiting the area.

The cornerish room (edge middle room between two corner rooms) they gave me looked to be recently remodeled. It looks like everything in the building is recently renovated so things for the most part seem newish. No cobwebs or dust in sight (aside from the top of the fridge being a bit dusty, but alas I don't think 6'+ housekeepers are common.) Rooms are equipped with dishwashers, full size electric ovens (some don't have an oven so you have to request it,) a toaster, microwave & a fridge. They feature stand-in showers & low height toilets. Pretty much everything in the rooms is low height which is perfect, especially for those with disabilities. The Residence Inn offers a free all you can eat breakfast buffet from 6:30 am to 9:00 am Monday thru Friday & from 7:00 am to 10:00 am on weekends. There is a pool, jacuzzi, laundry room & gym. It also has a small "marketplace" next to the front desk that consists of a few items you can grab like soda, TV dinners & snacks along with personal care items. Since the hotel is small, all of the amenities are scaled to match. This means things like the marketplace & breakfast buffet have nowhere near the selection of other busier Residence Inns like the one in downtown Phoenix which also includes things like salisbury steak, chinese food & whatever they felt like cooking for breakfast alongside the standard waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, meats, cereal, etc. The breakfast here is a measly eggs (cage free,) bacon, muffins (jalapeno cheddar biscuits in muffin form so not sweet dessert muffins,) & oatmeal. Even though the breakfast ends at a certain time they do have mini fridges that have fat free milk & yogurt along with coffee/water dispensers that are always available (they shutdown the juice dispenser once breakfast closes.) There are several cons though. My room preferences were completely ignored when they assigned the room. Since the edge room they assigned me was on a lower level & near the exit...hearing the frequent slamming of the exit door as people took the stairs was not ideal. Speaking of doors...my door was defective & wouldn't close all of the way naturally so I had to push it until it clicked every single time otherwise anyone could literally just push the door open. The view was also terrible as it overlooked the parking lot & had trees, street lights, etc. blocking the window. The ice maker on the fridge was way too loud. It produces ice at a super slow pace & the buzzer seems to go off every 30 minutes or so. When the ice is done it makes a loud bang almost like a bomb went off as it dispenses the ice into the bucket. The second con is the lack of in-house food options. Third is that there's no shuttle that'll take you to nearby places which is a missed opportunity to earn a lot of extra business from traveling professionals & tourists. For some reason there were no baking pans even though my room had an oven although they did have utensils, plates, pots, etc. The rooms are also not as soundproof as they should be... with me being able to hear people walking outside in a hallway as well as them coming in going from their rooms. I also occasionally heard my neighbors upstairs & adjacent to me moving around or snoring all of which is concerning as it leaves me wondering how much they heard from my room? For a place geared towards business...privacy should be a priority. There was also whisper levels of strange electrical noises that seems to have come from the minisplit HVAC system. I was told house keeping cleans every other day, but they didn't touch my room for the first four days even though I saw them in the hallway. It took me sitting my overflowing trash cans outside of my door for them to go inside & clean the room. Even then they didn't actually clean anything, moreso just replaced the towels as well as made the bed after taking out the trash (of which the recycle bin was returned with large bits of food in it which wasn't mine so even that was not cleaned.) Also be aware of the $5/day parking fee added to your room bill which is charged even if you aren't even driving & therefore aren't using the parking lot. There was no hand soap as well as no lotion in the room so I had to use the liquid body wash in the shower along with my own lotion. Overall, this is a much better option than the normal Marriott hotel in Downer's Grove. The bed is actually comfortable enough to sleep on, the minisplit HVAC system doesn't kick in like a mule (other than the electrical noise it's rather quiet when on,) and every other amenity is leagues ahead of a regular Marriott.
