Check in easy peezy. I came to visit my brothers and sisters after Christmas. Unfortunately, there was no continental breakfast and no perks likes coffee and tea. This was my first time at the Marriott. My brother is a rewards member and booked it for us since his house was over crowded. One caveat to the courtyard hotel was easy access to and from the room that was right outside the handicap patking where the car sat. I went up front to see if they had a shower chair. No dice. There is a fitness center and a patio just outside the room. Marriots are not my first choice or last choice but the sleep was comfy, the matress was firm, the shower was hot. Very disappointed with my experience at Courtyard by Marriott Charlotte Matthews and how management handled this situation. I was contacted after checkout and told I needed to take care of an alleged remaining balance by 3 PM. At no point during that conversation was I warned that I would be placed on a Do Not Rent list or permanently banned from the property. When I questioned whether the balance may have been related to the incidental hold already placed on my card at the beginning of my stay, I was told I supposedly was NOT charged an incidental fee because I was a repeat customer. That explanation makes absolutely no sense considering I DID pay a $100 hold upfront at check-in, and I still have not received those funds back. So now I'm left in a situation where: * I paid a $100 hold at the start of the stay * I was later told I owed an additional balance * I still have not received the original held funds back * And I was placed on a DNR list without any warning beforehand This entire situation feels poorly communicated and badly managed. I fully understand paying legitimate charges, but guests deserve transparency and accurate accounting -- especially from a Marriott property. Instead of working through the confusion professionally, management escalated the situation immediately while I'm still trying to understand where my original hold money even went. Very disappointing experience and not the level of professionalism I expect from the Marriott/Bonvoy brand. read more

This seems to be a partially renovated older hotel. The exterior, lobby and " business center" are the renovated parts and look very nice. I was pleased to find the bar/bistro open 6-10, and had a pleasant drink and snack. Service was excellent, both at the bar and bistro. The "business center" was large attractive-- amenities-wise, I only noticed two laptops. However, I noticed an abrupt change as soon as I ventured to my room. The carpet leading to the elevator was old and dirty. The hallway on the second floor seems to have been redone with new carpet, wallpaper and lighting. But the room was a disappointment. I had hoped for laminate/vinyl plank floors--they look nice and can be fully sanitized between guests. But no. Another very old, grungy carpet and I shudder thinking what breeds in its depth. The trash left behind furniture did not suggest thorough cleaning.... The bed was ok, as far as I could tell, but four out of the six phone chargers did not work. The bathroom was antiquated, one of those bath/shower combos that I associate with much lower-end hotels than Courtyard Marriott. Unpleasant shower: took too long to get hot water, and the tub barely drained. Those who are looking for the typical included breakfast of make-your-own waffles, saran-wrapped muffins etc. will be disappointed. Breakfast is not included, but the offerings include avocado toast. If I were to eat breakfast, I'd take that. To end on a positive note-- I felt safe at this hotel. It is in a residential neighborhood and the reception/market is open all night. read more

If you want housekeeping you need to pay for it. I haven't been to a hotel yet that does this. When we arrived all we had in the room was a small bar of soap. No shampoo, no conditioner, no body wash. The only "housekeeping" you get is every other day and that consists of new towels and garbage disposal. No beds made, no vacuuming, nothing else. The ONLY good thing about this hotel is location. Nothing else comes with the stay. No complimentary breakfast either. read more

My wife and I have stayed in many Marriott properties across the country and are long time Bonvoy members, but our experience with the Marriott Courtyard in Matthews, NC was definitely a bad experience. The initial look and service of the hotel was good until we took a closer look and issues began to pop up. We had a backed up toilet and the manager handed us a plunger and said that's all they can do. Both of our key cards kept needing to be reset multiple times. Shower curtain is too short and floods the bathroom floor. We had a microwave but no frigerator. Bathroom is small and poorly designed. Door blocks sink when open, etc. Dated fixtures. One might get a similar experience at a Hotel 6, but at least they'll leave the light on for you. Not Recommended! read more

COCKROACH, found one hopping around my room around 10pm as I was about to sleep. I already had a problem with the cleanliness of the room and how non-courtyard it was, but the Roach i found was a cherry on top. Do yourself a favor and stay downtown and deal with the traffic, at least you'll sleep peacefully knowing a cockroach won't jump on you. read more

The construction makes it hard to access and egress...but it is well located off of 485. The lobby is pretty nice and they have Starbucks at their Bistro on premise, but it isn't a traditional Starbucks, you aren't able to use your app or your card. The food is surprisingly good, but expensive. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The room never quite got as cool as I like it in the two days we were there, but it was still a good room. The staff was very nice and accommodating. read more

Business traveler- I have stayed at this location numerous times on my trips to the Charlotte area and have not been disappointed overall. Friendliness- the general manager is extremely friendly. Much of the staff delivers very good customer service. Newer people provide just basic service. Cleanliness- rooms and bedding are always clean. Lobby area seems clean as well. Windows and balcony doors are dirty. On one stay (8 nights), I left the do not disturb sign on my door. After day 5, they cleaned the room despite the sign. If it was a wellness check, I appreciate that but didn't appreciate they entered the room while I was out. Safety- seems like a safe area. Parking lot a bit dimly lit. Location- right off 74 so there is traffic noise if you're in the road side of the property. Decent drive to the airport or downtown Charlotte (25-35 minutes). Plenty of QSR restaurants nearby. I've discovered a local deli just around the corner for good food. Other dining options not too far away. Only real complaint is the sliding doors on the balconies are often difficult to open and close. Also, the tub/shower isn't updated like other courtyards I stay at for work. read more

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for Thanksgiving week we stayed at this hotel because it was close to our relatives we arrived Saturday night on Monday morning we had no water when we called the front desk they told us the boiler broke. No one called us to inform us we had no water. That night we called and they had water but no hot water we took a bath with cold water and woke up on Tuesday with no hot water when we called the front desk they told us the boiler needed a part, I asked the General Manager how was Marriott going to compensate us they said we added some points to your account. Then after that 15 minutes later your HOUSEKEEPING snooze button goes off with multiple employees with earphones in singing along to their favorite song and oblivious to the world outside. I just returned from an 11 night stay at the Courtyard Charlotte Matthews and I was happy with my choice. As a Marriott gold member, about 85% of our hotel stays are at Marriott properties. I had a LOT of choices when selecting my Charlotte area hotel and I usually prefer Residence Inns or Springhill Suites, but I spent some time studying all of the properties and amenities available. I ended up selecting this location because it was low points required, had a Jacuzzi, and had a refrigerator and microwave in the room. Additionally, on multiple review sites, I found pretty good reviews compared to some of the other hotels I was considering. The reviews did not lie. The location has gone through recent renovations, including a "bistro" which I believe JUST opened. The common areas are really nice, they have a comfortable tv/business area room, a meeting room and the restaurant area. There is a small work out room, an indoor Jacuzzi area, and an outdoor pool, as well as an outdoor fire pit area and nice outdoor relaxation areas. We only used the Jacuzzi which was kept at 100 degrees, but it was more enjoyable just using it still because there is a damaged jet and the others were not pointing correctly so the water was kind flying all over the place when the jets were on. Plus being indoors, it can get a little hot, so we propped the exterior door open to be comfortable a time or two. Our room was nice, but a little small. I was disappointed that we were not upgraded. As gold members, a room upgrade is common and we were staying for a long stay, so that was a bummer, but the bed was very comfortable. The AC was on full cold when we arrived and we left it that way and asked for extra blankets... that is a hotel treat for us since we don't have AC at home, so we freeze ourselves. The refrigerator worked great, but the freezer part didn't freeze and we ended up not using the microwave at all. We had a couch and a desk and the TV swiveled so you could watch it from the couch or the bed. The sink area of the bathroom was quite small, but it had a little shelf which was helpful. The separate toilet/shower area was actually pretty roomy. The shower had good water pressure and worked well. Paul Mitchell amenities were provided, which I always like! I was a little disappointed with the cleaning service; not that she did a poor job, but we had added blankets to the bed and she would remake the bed without the blankets so that was kind of frustrating, plus I don't get throwing away the soap every time you clean. We only need the one for the stay. We ended up just getting service a couple of times. There is also a laundry room with one washer and one dryer. The washer is $1.50 in quarters and the dryer is $1.00, but depending on what you're drying, you may need to do the dryer twice. There is a sign that says laundry supplies are available at the front desk, I didn't see any in the little store but did not ask anyone, we just picked some up at a nearby Big Lots. Speaking of nearby, this location is about a 15-20 minute drive to Uptown Charlotte, but you are right next to the 485 which circles the whole Charlotte area, so that is super handy. Also there are a TON of restaurants and shopping nearby - lots of chain restaurants, but also some local places, too! Of course, you can grab a bite at the Bistro in the hotel, but one frustration was that we would usually get back at night around 10 and that was right when the Bistro would close. A few times I was wishing they were still open so I could have had a cocktail. I did have breakfast a couple of times when on the go from the Bistro and I recommend the oatmeal! But, they are still getting their bearings so don't go there if you are in a hurry. There is ample parking and the staff that we interacted with were all very friendly. The only problem we experienced while there is that on our 10th night we got home late, arrived at our room and our keys had been deactivated. So, that was weird. Overall, though, we were happy with our choice and I would recommend this hotel - it's a great value and very comfortable. read more

They have cockroaches on the floor and on the walls I told the hotel manager and with no emotion told me that he would give me my money back and I can go stay at a different hotel. I quote " there are plenty of other hotels in the area" I had traveled for 1100 miles, trusted Hilton to be legit and this is how I get treated, he could care less, no empathy I know he's from New York but come on, forget about it, so anyways I called Priceline and they told me to go kick rocks. They might as well be AI . There's nothing they can do about it. It's 3 o'clock in the morning and what am I gonna do, there's roaches here and they also offer a free breakfast in the morning. Think about that. They just don't care. Why do I feel like I'm the one being out of line? I guess the people at Priceline and the manager are ok with having cockroaches in their beds. How disgusting!! The posted picture is a crushed roaach that I killed on the wall. Maybe the president and vice president of this company should come stay at this hotel, and have a good time here they treat us like we're are second hand people and we deserve to live in the trash that they offer us. Easy check-in, clean, get a balcony room on the backside (away from the big boulevard noise in the front). Smoke detector had a battery issue -- it happens -- and Carlo at the desk could not have been more helpful. Personally handled the situation with care and kindness in less than 10 minutes. Wish bistro could be open, looks wonderful...but have feeling we'll be back. Oh, and South 21 across the street is 1950s joint with burgers you must try! read more

The staff is very professional and the rooms are nice enough. The road noise and noise from the wall mounted heating unit make it difficult to sleep. If you are a light sleeper request a room on the back side of the building. I did not. :( read more

From a lodging standpoint, this is good. Very clean--- I wipe down all hotel bathrooms with a Clorox wipe, usually I find something (a hair, dust, etc.). Here I found nothing. The rooms aren't that updated but to a seasoned traveler this does not matter--- what matters is that the room is clean and comfortable. However the five stars is for the staff. We stayed here over a whole weekend and had a few special requests and accomodations due to family. The staff went out of their way to help us and make us feel welcome. We made 3-4 requests, all were met and we couldn't have been more satisfied. Great job Courtyard in Matthews! For under $100/night on the weekend you could not do any better. read more

This seems to be a popular hotel - always people in the lobby hanging out. Our room was clean and we had all the necessities for the weekend. They have newspapers in the lobby for free and breakfast is $5.95. The workout room is small but enough to give you a needed workout. Plenty of parking and on the main road. Well, I'll start with the positives. The mattress was comfy and the pillows were good. The shower was hot and we liked the body washes and shampoo they offered in the shower. All were refreshing and nice. However.....the rest was a mess. We arrived to find the building under some major refacing at the very least with lots of loud contractors screaming at each other and paying no mind to the fact that they were working on a hotel. The place was old and scary looking.....rooms had no sound proofing whatsoever. We could hear one guy talking on the phone in some other room word for word. And we could also hear the elevator binging at each floor and the ice maker which had the roar of a jet engine. Our bathroom was of Red Roof quality. The sink outside of the bathroom with no place to place or store anything. The hair dryer was the cheapest thing I've ever seen. I mean I get you don't want to give people incentive to steal anything, but give me a break. The bathroom light was wonky......you had to rattle the switch to get it to go on. Our toilet kept flushing itself every 20 minutes. The sink had one opened soap and hand cream and some tissue that seemed to be stuffed back into the box. There was no place to put anything in the room. No drawers at all.... so we had to live out of our suit case. Coffee was not available at certain points of the day.....we came back around three in the afternoon one day and were told that we could use the crappy little coffee maker in our room. Our coffee maker had enough to make two single cups and dry creamer and not even enough sweetener to fit the bill. This was particularly annoying since we often stay at Hampton Inns and they always have fresh coffee around the clock. A great feature that we sorely missed at this particular location. Staff was hit and miss. Everyone was friendly, but not really all that helpful. One night we were waiting for someone to come to the desk and after about ten minutes we witnessed this staff member dragging a pillow and comforter from the laundry room as if he was getting ready to take a little nap. Who knows? And it would be hard to prove, but this place seems to be hosting section 8 and welfare recipients. We saw too many shady folks coming and going in the the parking lot and in and out of the lower rooms. One guy had a few of his friends hanging out in the back making us wonder if it was ok to leave our car there. Made it scary for us. Also...no complimentary breakfast. Not acceptable. I have a complaint in to the company, but so far I have heard nothing back and I have a feeling I won't get a response. This place is a dump and they know it. Marriott has lost our business. Staying here for free as part of a wholefoods new store opening for the waverly store which by the way had just opened today. Ive been in my room all mornin and for the past 2 hours ive heard the cleaners talk so loudly. Theyre just loud. Not a big thing. Not sure i like the area and they dont have free breakfast. Thankfully my job has provided a way we get breakfast but its just a little starbucks inside. The ac is loud, but its not horrible. I wouldnt pay to stay here i dont think. read more

This facility is newly renovated , so these pictures are actually old . The hotel is very clean, warm & inviting . All of the staff members I came in contact with were very kind & welcoming . I was able to check in by 12pm as my flight arrived early. Upon check-in , Erin asked if I have a room preference which rarely happens at other hotels. The room was very clean & comfortable. The bistro downstairs serves breakfast till 10am, unfortunately I missed breakfast & to my surprise upon check-out, Ms. Velasquez ( I believe that was her name ) offered me to pick out anything from the snack bar on the house . This hotel has went down the drain! Musty smell in hallways. Room smelled faintly of smoke. Bistro is still closed but they advertise they have one. The worst part of our experience was housekeeping banging on our door at 8 AM in the morning and waking us up, yelling Housekeeping! There were no signs to put on your door handle so they went down the floor banging on doors and yelling housekeeping! Then as if that wasn't enough, they were singing very loudly. I called down to the front desk and let them know how loud they were and to please keep down the noise. That didn't help anything. 30 min later they were still singing. I finally packed up my stuff and left. I stopped by the front desk and spoke with a male manager on the way out and complained again about how loud they were and that we did not appreciate being woke up. All he said was I'm sorry, I told them to keep the noise down. He knew I was leaving because of the noise and he did nothing to make it right. Poor management all the way around. I wish I had read all these awful reviews before booking a hotel here. This hotel is ruining the Marriott name. Time to get a new manager and do a deep cleaning of this hotel! read more

I've been a Marriott member for years. I wanted a hotel near my father-in-laws house for Thanksgiving. The hotel staff is pleasant, but the facility is run down. There are torn, frayed, and stained carpets in the hallways. The ice machines, I kid you not sound like jet engines. The elevator has a level of grime going around the base of the walls. And the worst is this horrid funky, damp smell in the corridors on the first and second floor. read more

The room was very clean, the extra towels I requested were put on the door in the morning and every employee I encountered was extremely friendly and pleasant. One of the better Courtyards I've visited. The staff is outstanding, my room was pristine, in near perfect condition, and comfortable. Several nights during the week, they offered complimentary beer, wine, and food, courtesy of Texas Roadhouse. The location is great, close to plenty of restaurants, shopping, and has easy access to travel routes. I'm a business traveler, and this was only a one week assignment, but if I come back to the area, I'll definitely be staying here again. read more

Not the fanciest, hasn't been renovated in the new style, not a great location for someone who wants to walk to food and attractions. Never stay here, this place charges $170.00 a night and doesn't give a free continental breakfast for there guests which is inexcusable for a hotel that supposedly prides themselves on being a top notch hotel. I've never been treated like this by a hotel ever, this is unacceptable. We will never stay at another Courtyard by Marriott, they have lost a customer. read more

This was my first time staying at Marriott Courtyard and I couldn't get over how clean my room was. The room was spacious and had just about any amenity you could need. The desk staff was friendly and professional. The cleaning staff all would say hello to you in the morning. Although breakfast is not included I would highly recommend eating there. This is not your high priced luxury hotel. But you get more than your money's worth! Damsal was very welcoming. Dominic was a great teacher and also welcoming. We got an upgrade, thank you very much! Being disabled, it's helpful to get the grab bars in the tub. Little things go a long way. I would recommend to ask for a back room. We got a front room and the road is nearby. Not the hotel's fault. Just the way it is. If traffic sounds make you feel at home, go for a front room. They served Margueritas at 5 today. Lovely. I met up with my sister and had a very nice time. Do not let Angela, I think her name was, give you directions. She sent us the wrong way! Dominic had been very helpful printing out directions to the restaurant we had originally chosen. We changed our minds and stopped to get new directions. Not good to be given wrong directions. The rest of the experience was fantastic. read more
