My husband, toddler, and 5 months old stayed here for 3 nights on Memorial Day weekend. We had a great time from the moment we walked in: - the hotel is beautiful and location is everything - the staff is very nice, tries to call you by name to make you feel special, and everything screams quiet luxury - the room was very nice, well decorated and comfortable. The tub is the highlight. One comment would be that when we checked in with Anthony, who was so sweet to our toddler, also kept telling us we were getting upgraded to a very nice room. We got all excited. It was a normal room. The "very nice upgrade" just meant that we were on floor 5. I barely call that an upgrade but ok. - we asked for a crib, and we go a nice crib with a cute little baby soap kit from noodle and boo- very nice touch. And baby robes for the kids- my toddler loved it. My toddler was on a rollaway bed and they were super accommodating about it- great experience on that front. - balconies are tiny and I never saw anyone out when I sat out - pool staff was super nice. It was a chilly weekend and the pool could have been warmer (I couldn't get in, but I really don't like cold water). - the beach chairs are also very nice and we were surprised to find them available - they were extremely pleasant about our friends visiting us every day! - the lobby waiter during the day was almost inexistant. We had to go to the bar to ask for drinks. The woman at night was great. Now for the food...: - coast has a great breakfast, the lemon ricotta pancakes are excellent (though stupid expensive for pancakes) - pico is a good spot for shrimp cocktail and calamari. Hasn't seen shrimps that big in a long time. - overall the food was good everywhere but way overpriced.... The kids menu are ridiculous... hard to justify spending $28 on kids pancakes. That being said, the portions were the same as adult portions... maybe make the portions smaller, and price more accessible? Overall we had a great stay, and while on the expensive side, we agreed we would come back. Nicely done! read more

So I used to live across the street at The Stanley before I contracted E.Coli poisoning from a steak and eggs breakfast on a Sunday morning by myself with my pup. This happened on 7/28/2024. I walked home and within a few hours, I began projectile vomiting, among other things. I definitely know it was the breakfast steak, which I usually never get. I thought it would pass in a few days, no big deal. It did not, and it turned into Sepsis and Pancolitis within a week. I was bleeding internally and by the next Sunday, I called the paramedics to my home because I could not stand up. I almost lost my life. I spent almost 40 days in the hospital over the next 4 months - it's now May 2026 and I still need one surgery that my insurance does not cover. I had every complication under the sun. I lost my home, my new office that I just signed the lease for with an ocean view, my vehicle, my good credit, but most importantly, my good health. I had never been admitted to the hospital before in my life. I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, so I lived a very healthy lifestyle, working out frequently, clean diet. I contacted ETC Hotel group, Edward, who owns the Coast Restaurant in Shutters along with Casa Del Mar next door. They had no response for me. I am forced to get a lawyer now. I was supposed to join LAXPD that year. I already finished testing. This has, clearly, been put on hold. Edward was the one who did not get back to me. I emailed corporate and his personal email. Update: June 9, 2026. Hello Elica Y. I am highly offended by your response. Please, no response is better than a lie. There was no comprehensive review. Your insurance company, United, requested information from my lawyers which has not been sent out yet. In fact, according to my bank statements, I dined at your restaurant, Coast, the evening before AND the morning of this incident. Chef Vitorrio would always bring out food for me as we were very friendly and I was a local. Do better. Say nothing. read more

We had an unbelievable time at this hotel. The concierge team is amazing especially beatrice. Front desk staff very friendly and accommodating. We got upgraded to a one bedroom suite. It was my daughter's 22nd birthday. Booked it last minute, but we still were able to get beautiful bouquet of flowers, cupcakes from a local cupcake shop, a bottle of champagne. Thank you team for making her stay so enjoyable. Only downside was the bar staff in the lobby was pretty slow. One of the bartenders didn't apply our drink tickets and I had to go back later to fix it. We had a small cabana. Lots of kids in the pool, but I guess it was the weekend. I've waited to leave a review because I aspired to make it perfect, naming each and every employee who made a home for Palisadians after the fire. Alas, I fear my memory will fade before I have time to memorialize a perfect tribute. From Mikey and Willem to Mike, Andrew, Jason and Zach at the door, to Carol, Rosanna, Myles, Anthony, Beatrice at the front desk, Dorshab, Jimmy, Kevin, Liz G., Mary and Jesse in dining, Maria and Ana in housekeeping, Scott, Gabriel, Julie, Cyndi - quite sincerely every single Shutters employee who crossed my path during a 6 month residency made my life better for having known them. I am eternally grateful for the care and concern extended by this hotel to our community as it offered haven to Palisades refugees - along with our dogs, cats, birds, snakes, fish - piled into their beautiful lobby that had finished a renovation a couple weeks prior. The hotel group was generous, and the employees from every department were of the highest caliber. Whoever did the lion share of the hiring for the staff present between January-June 2025 deserves an award. In 6 months time, I did not directly or indirectly encounter a single issue with staff. Rooms were perfectly appointed with luxurious bathtubs and great views. Of the 5 rooms I stayed in, Room 734 was my all around favorite. If that's not in the budget, Room 308 is a runner up. For those looking for a weekend away, I recommend you ask for a room on the 7th, then 6th, then 5th, then 4th floor...you get my point. Rooms from -30-38 with direct ocean views are also the quietest as they're nestled in the center of the hotel. Noise can be an issue on the 3rd floor, at least when staying for months. probably won't bother anyone over a weekend. During a time of great chaos and unprecedented stress, managing the remediation of seniors with dementia, assisting 6 family members who lost homes, Shutters provided me a safe haven. For the rest of my life, I shall be grateful for the kindness of ownership, management, and boots on the ground. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind compassion. IMPORTANT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: We stayed in a one bedroom suite on the second floor. The price for the room was $$$$$$$. With this in mind, we were hoping for a nice, quiet room with a view of the ocean. NO. Did not happen. YOU NEED TO KNOW that your room may be right next to the lobby lounge outdoor deck and there is music and loud talking while they are open. There are also musicians and others that are right outside of your window (technically on the public beach) that are singing, playing the trumpet, keyboards and VERY LOUD all the time. The room also has a public walkway right under the window, so you are going to hear the public (at least when we were there very loudly) and it is NOT quiet...it's very loud. MY SUGGESTION TO SHUTTERS: Invest in double/triple pane windows (something similar to what Bellagio has in Las Vegas) so you can't hear all of this noise. We also had our next door neighbors that decided to throw a VERY LOUD PARTY from 2 - 3 am (yes, I called security and they quieted down after a while). I was actually shocked they didn't get kicked out because this kind of behavior should not be tolerated. The good news is that the Guest Relations Manager (Beatrice) did help out finding a comparable room right next door to their sister property (Casa Del Mar)...so we moved rooms the next day. I feel like Shutters is a good place - but they really need to invest in thicker pane windows knowing that the public is going to interfere with the quiet that you are paying for. It's all a matter of what you are looking for - and what to know before. read more

I've always loved Shutters. At a time when consistency is lacking at so many places, this has been one of the few places I've always been able to count on for great service, which is why this experience was so disappointing. My husband and I used to frequent Coast downstairs for brunch so often that one of the servers knew us by name. We went this past weekend and Coast was very busy, so we decided to go upstairs to the indoor bar just to have a drink and some food. We sat at a table inside for nearly 40 minutes while staff walked past us and ignored us completely. At that point, my husband went up to the bar to order, thinking maybe they didn't take table orders in that area. But they clearly did. A table of five sat down almost 30 minutes after we did, and within about 10 minutes, the bartender came over, chatted with them, explained the drinks, and took their order. Meanwhile, we were still sitting there, completely unattended. My husband walked up to the bar and order himself. His glass of wine came out fairly quickly. My Bloody Mary didn't arrive until over 30 minutes later, and the food came almost 30 minutes after that. By then, the whole experience felt awkward, frustrating, and honestly uncomfortable. I've always looked to Shutters as a place that gets it right when so many restaurants don't anymore. That's what made this visit especially disappointing. read more

Brunch at Shutters on the Beach is a relaxing, exquisite experience. The partial ocean view from the glass room is just right, and the sunken floor architecture makes it feel cozy. The pace of the service is perfect - attentive and not overbearing. Also, the wait staff is incredibly polite and astute - truly professionals. The Bloody Mary is excellent - peppery and the garnish is elegant and delicious. The coffees are what you'd expect from a classy cafe. Our party ordered the pancakes with whipped ricotta and Nutella, the steak and eggs, the mushroom and cheese omelette and the eggs Benedict on salmon. Every dish was delectable- and the accompanying bread was superb. The steak and eggs, cooked medium rare with a green salsa spread were delectable. Absolutely worth the beachside prices. Had brunch here over the weekend with my boyfriend. I wanted to hate this place because it's right in the prime tourist area or SaMo but the food was fantastic and so was the service. We ate outside on their little patio and the ambiance is peaceful but still entertaining since you can people watch. We split an order of their French toast and it was fantastic. I ordered their grilled seasonal fish as well which was healthy but still hearty. My partner had the eggs Benedict which looked yummy as well. Our team recently hosted an event at Shutters on the Beach and stayed on property, and I can't say enough good things. The hotel is absolutely immaculate, beautiful, classic coastal design, and still feels cozy and tucked away despite being in the middle of a busy area. The rooms are stunning, super comfortable, and just feel elevated. Service across the board was exceptional- warm, attentive, and truly on top of everything. I met Eric, from the valet only once, and every time I was the valet area, he greeted me by name. A special shoutout to Jenny Lewanda, our on-site contact, who was terrific. We went here for my mother in law's birthday. It's a nice place for a more casual dinner. You can watch the sunset as it's right on the beach. My kids had the beef tenderloin, my husband had the Chilean sea bass. He loved it, but was still hungry about an hour later. I had the chicken Milanese. It didn't really come with anything so I added a side of pasta. Which turns out was a kids meal order. For starters, we got the calamari,charcuterie board and burrata. Then we had to order bread as the board and burrata don't come with a starch. That was a bummer. Over all we liked this place and recommend for a special occasion. Amazing! This hotel is the most relaxing hotel (on the mainland) that I've ever been to. By the time I checked in and had an iced tea in the living room, I was already in vacation mode. My room had a terrific view of the ocean, and I could smell the beach when my doors were open. The restaurants are so good that you really don't need to search for others in the area. Well, now it's tough to pick my fave changing table between Casa Del Mar and Shutters--talk about a real diaper dilemma! Mommy raves about the grub here more, but I'm all about those plush Casa sofas for my post-nap lounging sessions. Alright, back to the bum business: The Shutters changing table is straight-up five-star luxury. No squishy mattress to sink into, but hey, I get to admire my handsome self in the mirrors while Mommy plays cleanup crew. They've even got size 2 diapers on deck, which is a classy move--though I'm a chunky champ rocking size 3 already, so those are for the rookie rumps out there. Warning: Not all customers treated the same For years I have been going to shutters on the beach with my family, so disappointed to experience poor customer relations and ok food for high prices! This hotel should be ashamed of how they treat people ! The best part of my experience here was sitting outside and taking in the view on the beach. To start out I felt discriminated. After ordering, our waiter asked for a credit card. How tacky! He said he was going on break so needed to run the credit card! Through our whole meal we never received our credit card back and our server never went on break, instead he provided service to everybody but us. Plus he never asked for a credit card from anybody else at the restaurant. If asking us, you should ask from all customers, otherwise you are discriminating. Another issue is that they took a chair from our table without asking. How improper while eating. To make matters worst: I had to ask for water rather than be provided based on glass being empty. After asking I had to wait for some time. Plus we were never asked for a refill on ice tea. And I never got the requested lemon. As for food: for the price, I would skip eating here. I ordered a cob salad: salad had too much dressing and only 5 small shrimps. I paid 14 dollars extra for shrimp- they were also dry. My uncle's eggs Benedict was a bit more impressive, but was over 30 dollars for just eggs. At least he had a nice salad with asparagus with his eggs. For this price category , if you are looking for good service at the beach with staff that respect and appreciate their customers go next door at hotel casa Del Mar. read more

The customer service here is impeccable! Owen, the manager at 1 Pico (the restaurant here) was such a breath of fresh air. I arrived before my friend so I had time to ask all my nitpicky health questions. I admit it, I am a nut when it comes to my health! I asked what kind of oil they use in their fryer and do they at least use a non-GMO corn chip. He came back and told me the truth. They use canola oil in the fryer, which is genetically modified and they use regular corn tortillas to make corn chips which means they are GMO as well. I really appreciated his honesty and I wish I would've been able to tell him why things need to change so I'll say it here. Research is finding that these genetically modified seed oils are highly inflammatory. The corn is also highly inflammatory because it's genetically modified. I would love to consult them on how to make some changes to make everybody happy. Yes, it's a gorgeous space amd a beautiful place but I don't think I can come here again. I did have the avocado toast, but I didn't eat the bread and I had the vegan mango sago. It was yummy. The bartender Christian is also an asset to their staff. I was not drinking alcohol, so he suggested their line of botanicals made in England and I had one of their specialty drinks and it was splendid. I guess everything balanced itself out on my visit here, but I do wish they cared more and start to use organic, and non-GMO sourced food. Otherwise, if you haven't set higher standards for your health, there's no denying you will get great service here, you will have great views and it will be fabulous. I have gone to have breakfast on my beach walk with my dog a few times here. It's absolutely pricey for the food and quality, but in the past, I liked and appreciated the service and atmosphere while sitting outside with my dog, Wallace. I am not saying the food is not good, it is, but the price point is a lot. However, I know that is to be expected at a beach hotel right in the boardwalk. What shocked me today was that my waitress, Alena Z., asked for a credit card after taking my order. It was so weird and awkward because out of the times I have been there in the past in that area, I had never been asked for a credit card. I told her such and her reply was something to the effect of, "oh, someone was not doing their job, it's hotel policy to ask non guests for a credit card if you sit on the boardwalk, but not inside or in the garden area inside." I mean she was nice about it, though flippant. I asked when was this policy instituted, again she said with a smile that it has always been that way. I told her "no, because I have eaten here before and no one asked me that." She said the hostess was supposed to tell me and repeated its hotel policy. I gave her the card because this was my birthday brunch for myself after a stressful week and I walked all the way from Marina del Rey and I was so hungry. I just wanted to have a nice Eggs Benedict, potatoes, and a mimosa or something fun to drink and take a moment to relax and eat in peace. It's my birthday month and I just needed a good morning. Anyway, it was really awkward and felt a little racial since I noticed no one else (whites or white appearing) were asked if they were staying in the hotel nor did anyone else give up a credit card. Again, I have never been asked this before nor have I heard anyone ask others in the past. I can't say that the waitress was rude or anyone who brought me food or drinks offended me in any way other than the awkward request of my credit card being held for my entire meal. She was polite. But, I have never in my life had something like this happen. I have had meals in so many top restaurants and some on the water and no one ever asked for a credit card nor kept it the entire meal, so freaking weird and just awkward. It gives racists an opportunity to offend and insult people, especially since it is not requested of every person, nor did I see signage indicating such. I don't like it. It made my birthday brunch feel like a hostage situation or a 'we don't trust folks who look like you black woman in workout clothes.' I don't know. I think the hostess needs to be sure to let people know ahead of time since she also asked if I was staying in the hotel (first time again for that question) and I said "no, I'll just pay by card normally." I also asked to sit outside since I have a dog, again, it was a birthday breakfast walk. It was a really good Eggs Benedict with crab, loved the potatoes, the peach breakfast martini was amazing, and Wallace loved his scrambled eggs. Compliments to the chef and staff and bartender. But, the weirdness and awkward moment of asking for the credit card and having it held my entire breakfast while listening and not hearing the same question asked of others with no credit cards taken from people seated after me at other tables makes me not want to go back. I am now not sure if this was a racial issue with a smile due to a desire for a good tip (and I left a good tip since I believe in Karma and the possibility that I may be mistaken in my beliefs of today's event), or someone just following orders of "if they look like they don't belong, ask if they are guests and for the card," or if she is someone who does it every time without fail (I doubt this though, just not humanely possible in a service climate). Either way, I guess it's time to find a new breakfast spot on the walk. I guess more than awkward and weird, it's kind of insulting. It's hard to believe there is that much dine and dash at Shutters that you have to ask for a credit card in advance and hold it to be served a meal. Even the French fries (which were not on the menu) were outstanding. All fish is super fresh and prepared to perfection. Wine selection is excellent. I chillaxed in the living room prior to meeting my boss for a bite. Service was also wonderful. And -- valet. Super important for this area of town. 10/10 for views and warm service! My friend and I made it to Shutters on the Beach after a long day at a conference, followed by a trip to the beach to catch the sunset. It got cold pretty soon after sunset and we made our way to the porch of this wonderful restaurant/hotel. Indoors there was live music, and outdoors the gentle waves of the ocean were being extra melodious. We spent two hours on the porch, devouring warm bread and pita and burrata and dips, along with very many cocktails. Our host even moved the heater closer to us when he saw us reaching for our coats. When we inquired about this oddity, we found out that the linen napkins are disposed of after a single use! My friend and I were completely shocked to find this practice in a progressive, eco-friendly city like Santa Monica. Shame on Shutters for engaging in unsustainable practices that are bad for the environment. Instead of being a model for recycling, reusing, and reducing, Shutters is engaging in an unsustainable practice that undermines any stated commitment to environmentalism and conservation. My friend and I started googling why a highly regarded hotel would engage in such a practice and discovered that Forbes requires that linen napkins must be used used for restaurants/hotels to get a four star rating. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but if so, shame on Forbes and Shutters and any other major Hotel for such regressive practices. Went for brunch last Saturday and ordered the steak and eggs as i have done many times in the past. The steak was a little overcooked for med rare, but inedible. So tough it was hard to cut with a steak knife. 4 or 5 cuts and still not separating. They apologized, our waiter was good. Didn't offer any other solution, ran off to reorder. By the time it arrived i had eaten the eggs as it took 20 mins. Sadly it was worse this time. Did not refund the cost of breakfast but offered a mimosa instead. Time to find a new weekend brunch restaurant. Will not repeat that experience. Lack of Consistency is a restaurant killer. At this price point there is no excuse. read more

What a beautiful spot. The waiters took such great care of me as well as the support staff. There was a total eclipse that day and the staff saw I was interested and asked me if I wanted to use it. They literally made my day. The waiters was a blonde woman with short hair. She was helpful in picking out an entree. She was right, through ravioli is totally the best.
