We stayed at Casa del Mar Santa Monica for 3 nights, expecting a luxury 5-star experience, but unfortunately it was one of the most disappointing hotel stays we've ever had. The carpet in our room was extremely dirty, the bed sheets made our bodies itch, and there were mosquitoes, bugs, and even ants inside the room. During our stay, both my children and I became sick and experienced vomiting, which made the trip even more stressful. When we reported these issues, the front desk repeatedly told us they were "aware of the situation because of the heat" and apologized. While we appreciate the apology, simply saying "sorry" does not solve the problem or make up for the health issues and discomfort we experienced. For a hotel that charges premium rates and promotes itself as a 5-star luxury property, the cleanliness and room conditions were far below expectations. I expected much higher standards of hygiene, maintenance, and guest care. I hope management takes these issues seriously so other families do not have the same experience. read more

I love this hotel and it is ICONIC in Santa Monica. It is prime real estate right on the beach and the views are spectacular! I love the pool cabanas and the vibes are super chill and beachy, of course! It is a tad dated and could use an update but it's still awesome! Ok. Let me first start off saying that this property is a five star hotel. I have stayed here at least five times and each time the stay was fantastic My most recent stay I had more time to enjoy just the hotel and the pool and I noticed more than I normally would. The entrance/lobby and general property areas are very upscale. However on this visit, I noticed the outside wall drains on the building above the pool that were missing sections that had rust and water runoff clearly visible. I know large properties will show their wear and tear. But it caused me to be more observant about the tiny details. I noticed small things like rug color needing attention and other small details. Again, I stress, this is a five star hotel. It just needs a little TLC to keep up with its age. It can be done, and I will most definitely stay here again. A beautiful hotel with a beautiful bar in the lobby. After taking a walk along the beach, I sometimes stop by here to have drinks. My girlfriend and I also come here with our family to have appetizers and drinks during holidays. We recently had one "less than polite" waitress, but their service is usually quick and professional. Due to a lot of unfortunate circumstances, we were able to stay in one of your One Bedroom Suites and we were SO HAPPY!! This room was quiet, spacious and exactly what we were looking for. Your rooms manager was so helpful and we couldn't have been more happy and relaxed with what you provided. Housekeeping (I think her name was Maritzia) was so prideful of making sure we had everything we needed - such a nice touch. Room service always arrived quickly and the food was hot and delicious. One of the bellman said that Casa Del Mar sometimes gets overlooked - and this is my hope that it gets more stays because of this. I had a great experience from the moment we pulled up to the moment we departed. Terrific service by Sarah and the front desk and the entire valet and bell hop team, attentive and respectful. My room was decorated beautifully as is the entire hotel. The lobby is huge and has live music at night. The restaurant overlooks the beach and is tasty and the bar served great cocktails- I loved the pear! The hotel is next door to its sister location Shutters, which I plan to visit one day too. We ate next door at One Pico, it wasn't as good as Terraza on site, I felt. The spa was terrific for a massage but the lounge is too small and we had to interact with the other guests and it felt forced so some people wouldn't like it. Also when changing you have little privacy and the steam room is tiny. So don't expect much with the spa other than terrific massages. I would be curious to try the facials. I'll be back. My husband and I wanted to stop by for cocktails after a nice swim at the beach. Patio Del Mar was a great pick. The Hostess was very friendly and caring, she sat us immediately at the table I had my eye on. This place has great ambiance and great service. I ordered a spritz and my husband got beer. We also got guacamole and chips which we enjoyed a lot with our drinks. The spritz however wasn't that good but I was enjoying the atmosphere so much that I didn't mind it. I drank it without complaining. The bistro is part of the hotel and let me tell you the hotel is very nice to stay at. I checked it out right after we left the bistro. It will be a great staycation for us one day. Overall our short visit was awesome because of great service and ambiance. Will be back soon to have lunch with our kids. read more

We had a business meeting and the individual we were meeting suggested this place; we were all so glad that he did! The view from the restaurant was absolutely wonderful. Over the years, I've strolled by this majestic gorgeous vintage hotel, flanked by doormen. And wondered what lay hidden within. A few nights ago, finally went to dinner here and it was gorgeous. And the service is unrivaled: from the valet to the waiter all were exceptionally amicable and polite. And these not-so-small gestures are so special and memorable. You enter the hotel, through imposing double doors which showcase a grand foyer with winding stairs. It feels like a marriage btn Tuscany, Italy and Montecito, Santa Barbara. Decorated meticulously with Matisse-esque art and my all-time fav wherever I wander, a classic fireplace on a summer's beach night. You must experience it. The restaurant sits across the back glass, with a full vista of the Santa Monica pier and the sea. I ordered a vege burger, which needed few condiments since it was delightfully seasoned. Also, Iced tea bc I'm a Texans daughter's lol. Thank you for such a romantic evening, and an old-world elegant experience and service. Let's start with it being a beautiful hotel. And the accommodating housekeeping staff and the guys out front when you first arrive. The check-in process was smooth not much of a wait to get checked in, which is nice. I booked a reservation for a terrace room. Still, at check, we got an upgrade (quotation marks Insert here) to a higher floor, or so we thought (only to find out later on that there were limited rooms with a terrace in the hotel, and even though we booked that room specifically during reservation we were given the spiel talk higher up quitter room would be quitter). Still, as I said, we discovered it wasn't available at our check-in date. Moving on higher room didn't necessarily mean quieter, just FYI. The room was a big minus and friendly. All essentials needed were in the room. The bed was very comfortable and warm, the turn-down service at night is a nice touch, and also the complimentary car service that they offer sweetens the hotel stay The Terraza lounge is lovely. Good menu ate there a few times and got a few quick bites. The guacamole is so good it's a must. Try if you go the drinks were a hit or miss with the bartender There's a cute wheat shop with lovely clothing that is a bit pricey but for last-minute convenience. Overall it's a nice hotel on the pricier side but for the location and easy access to Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach worth it. Especially if you think about how LA traffic can be read more

We attended my lady's work holiday party at Casa Del Mar and had a great time. Her company reserved the private room downstairs from the main level. They had an open bar with wine & select hard liquor. The food was was buffet style. There was a carving station with prime rib & salmon. There was an assortment of bread & cheese, as well as roasted vegetables, chips & salsa, salad, etc. All the food was good, especially the prime rib. The salmon was a little dry. Service was great. We had our bar area complete with hi-tops that was like a pre-function area. There was a dining area that held 3 tables of 10-12 people and a middle sitting area where we were able to have a white elephant gift exchange. It was just what her company party needed. Valet was easy drop off and even easier pick-up. There was a $10 fee. Overall, I think everyone was pleased with the night. My lady & her coworkers seemed to like the venue. We had our wedding at Casa del Mar and it was truly the most MAGICAL day. Due to the LA fires, we had to change venues just six weeks before our wedding (after over a year of planning), and the team at Casa del Mar welcomed us with open arms and helped us pull off the perfect celebration. Li-Ling and Jenna were INCREDIBLE to work with. They were kind, organized, responsive, and a calming presence throughout the process (especially during such a stressful time). Casa del Mar is truly an exceptional hotel and wedding venue in every sense- romantic, elegant, and luxurious. The ceremony and reception in the ballroom were breathtaking, with the most beautiful ocean views and elegant details that made the whole space feel warm and romantic. Cocktail hour out by the boardwalk was unforgettable, especially with the perfect sunset and view of the Santa Monica Pier. The venue itself is stunning, but it was the care and professionalism of the team that truly made the experience unforgettable. Don't try to enjoy a holiday dinner at Casa del Mar. I have lived in town for 30 years, and I have gone to Casa del Mar from the time it opened. My friend and I went there for Thanksgiving dinner in 2024 and it was a disaster. Any time you go out for a holiday meal, the seating times are very strict so that all customers have sufficient time to enjoy their multicourse meal, and staff has time to clean the table and prepare it for the next reservation. The only reason I wasn't with my family on Thanksgiving is because I was recovering from a very serious spine surgery. I had limited ability to be up and about due to severe pain. I lay down until it was time to go to the hotel. We got there on time for our seating. My companion checked in while I used the ladies room. They indicated they could not seat us for 45 minutes to an hour. That was completely outrageous and was not going to be acceptable at all. I approached to speak to the hostess about this, but she was away from her station for protracted amounts of time. Because of my special circumstance, only being able to be up long enough to eat dinner and then go straight home and lie down, management deigned to do us the great favor of giving us special treatment. I believe we sat down about 40 minutes past our reservation time. The server was very nice, but she was clearly overworked, because numerous staff who were scheduled to work had called claiming to be sick. She said the hotel has a strict policy about holidays, and everyone had been reminded that if they didn't come to work when scheduled on a holiday, they would be terminated. Their abandoning ship at their upscale workplace on a holiday resulted in the customers not receiving the level of promptness and service they deserved in exchange for paying very high prices. The seating was also very uncomfortable, with a settee that was far too deep. The pillows that were supposed to take up the extra space were too soft and squishy to provide support. The table was also too small. I'm tired of expensive restaurants replacing their furniture with little café tables, as if customers are only having a cappuccino and pastry instead of a full-course meal. Like every place that pulls this nonsense, the tables were too close together and did not allow for a private conversation. It's not as if we aren't paying enough. It was also extremely dark and we could not see our food. This is no way to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. My friend got a cocktail at the bar before we were seated. When he ordered the same cocktail at the table, apparently it was now too much trouble for the bartender to use a toothpick, so he had plopped the Luxardo cherry in, and sunk to the bottom of the glass, with no way to get it out and enjoy it. This once beautiful and elegant establishment has had a very unfortunate replacement of furniture, and appears to be operated by entitled children. They have no interest in providing service; they only want to collect, and of course be generously tipped on, expensive checks. I will never go to Casa del Mar for a special occasion again. read more

My coworkers and I attended an event in the large bottom level room. The hotel is very elegant old world 1920's and has a great vibe. The hotel staff that served us at the bar and food areas were great and very pleasant. Beside the great sunset/ocean views Jennifer our server was what helped make our time special for dinner. She was so friendly and just went above and beyond.
