After I entered all the places we planned to visit during our trip, ChatGPT suggested that we stay in Santa Monica. I was a little hesitant because Santa Monica hotels are known to be expensive, and I preferred to keep our room under $300 per night before taxes and fees. The Shore Hotel offers a great package if you don't mind staying in a room without a beach view. We booked a room with two queen beds--Pool Terrace, if I remember correctly--using their Coastal Getaway rate. The package did not include in-and-out valet parking, daily bike rentals, or access to the gym, but it was perfect for us since we planned to spend most of our time outside the hotel. Our ground-floor room faced the swimming pool, but trees provided privacy by blocking the view into the room from the pool deck. We really liked the room, especially how easy it was to access the pool. It was only about a 60-second walk from our room to the pool entrance! Unfortunately, at around 1 a.m. on our first night, the toilet began having plumbing issues, and bubbles started gushing out of the bowl. About half an hour later, I contacted Manny at the front desk. Since the bubbles continued and an engineer was not on-site, Manny eventually had to move us to another room. It was not fun waking up the kids at 2 a.m. after a long day of driving, especially since they had already settled into the spacious room--and we all loved that room! There was enough space to lay out all four of our carry-on suitcases. However, Manny acted very quickly. He asked Chris and another staff member--sorry, I forgot his name!--to prepare our new room and help move our luggage while my husband and I hurriedly repacked everything we had just unpacked. By 2:30 a.m., we were in our new room. At first, my kids thought we had been downgraded because we went from two queen beds to one king bed, and the room seemed slightly smaller. However, Manny arranged for a rollaway bed--and the room itself turned out to be a major upgrade! He moved us to a third-floor room with a balcony directly facing the beach. The new room was an accessible room, so the bathroom had additional grab bars. That worked perfectly for us because the bars were great for hanging our wet swimsuits to dry! Our original room only had a large rainfall showerhead, while the accessible room also had a handheld showerhead. That was especially convenient since we were traveling with young children. Overall, I really appreciated how well Manny handled our situation! I almost want to gatekeep the Pool Terrace room because it offers such great value. I was initially concerned about noise because I was told that the pool stayed open until midnight on Saturday. However, I can attest that the glass doors do an excellent job of blocking outside noise. My husband and kids had no trouble falling asleep before the plumbing issue began. Honestly, I think the Pool Terrace room would be my go-to choice for our next visit because my kids really enjoyed spending time at the pool. The pool is not very large, but it is more than adequate for cooling off on a hot summer day. We were also fortunate that none of the children using the pool were overly rowdy. Everyone behaved well while still having fun. The hotel offers cabanas for rent, but we had no trouble finding chairs on weekdays or later in the evening on the weekend. I can definitely see myself staying here again the next time we visit Santa Monica! read more

My family found the Shore Hotel four years ago and we've come back every year since. The rooms are clean, the service has always been top notch and it's small enough to make our stay feel special, rather than staying at a large corporate hotel. I like the view of the Pacific Ocean and the Pier and we always meet people from other states and countries when we stay there. Everyone is really nice, which is indicative of the type of people who chose to stay at the Shore Hotel. The food is great and dinner poolside is something we look forward to. Beautiful hotel in a great location! The lobby smells amazing - like a Disney hotel. They gave us complimentary champagne when we checked in. Our room was gorgeous with a large balcony. We didn't find the privacy screen for the bathroom until the second day, so we were a bit horrified by the lack of privacy. The pool and hot tub were very clean and pretty. I wish we'd had more time to enjoy this hotel and all of its amenities. Our only complaint is the WiFi situation was awful. I couldn't get any service with Verizon anywhere in the hotel and their WiFi was super slow and unsecured. This meant my phone battery constantly drained. read more

Went for a little get away with husband ~ Right next to the pier and lots of good restaurants around and a very short walk to the promenade so very convenient! Workers were very helpful and friendly there! There was a guy named Volkan who was very friendly and gave us a complimentary wine and guided us to the elevator. Very good customer service and thats so important these days in business cause I met some unfriendly workers at certain business that I would never go back to even if I like it . My stay was really short only one day but the view from the room was amazing. Just look straight towards the beach and don't mind the looking down towards the busy street lol. The room was beautiful but the restroom was not the best. Everything could be heard if you what I mean. Plus only thing that covered the see through shower was the curtain. The staff was really nice and guest parking is not bad 60 dollars for all day in Santa Monica. If your not use to the homeless population in LA then maybe you shouldn't come to Santa Monica. Well....less than 2 months after my breakup. somehow got a date night in Santa Monica. So I decided to just spoil myself along the way and picked the most obviously fancy Hotel in SM. Remember that big glassy hotel right there by the pier? Yup that one. It wasnt cheap but is it worth it? I would say it is upto individual choice. The hotel is clean and nice, the room design was fancy. Check out my picture with the glass see-thru shower space. My room can also see the pier and the Ocean. it was something. The parking is valet only and the space is tight. The service? excellent. My only complaint is the noise. This is not the hotel's fault. It is just the natural of the location. With the hotel being right at the pier, you will always have drunk people, homeless people, pier goers and fast cars blowing by your hotel room. I will be back...someday. Due to asbestos in my apartment the management asked me to relocate fo several days and offered a generous stipend for my expenses. So happy I selected The Shore. I was with my very old dog and the staff treated both of us so well. My room was very clean and comfortable. I did not request an ocean view room. I requested ground floor and the patio and courtyard were perfect for me and my dog. As the other hotel guests were lounging by the pool I enjoyed the serenity of my ground floor room and my senior dog loved running around on the courtyard . The service from check-in to check-out was extraordinary. Volkan at the front desk is an asset to this property. He was so helpful and caring. I ate most of my meals in the hotel restaurant. They were fine, not great, but fine. Blue Plate Taco is just a few feet away and I enjoyed dining there as well. P.S. The bathroom and the amenities were excellent and the shower was amazing. This is by no means a 5-star hotel. Stayed here for 2 nights as part of my honeymoon before departing for Tokyo. We wanted to stay in LA first to break up all that travel. After the stay, but ESPECIALLY after the customer service we experienced in Japan, I wish we had never stayed here. I'll start with the fact that they try and nickel and dime you for EV-ER-Y-THING. I had a bad feeling about the Shore Hotel when we called to request an early check-in, and they said sure, for a fee of $75. We booked our room on booking. com, so we were unaware that we chose a "room without amenities." Amenities meaning for one, wi-fi. LOL!!!! In this day and age, when everyone has data plans, WHAT in the world is going on with charging guests for wi-fi? We mainly just wanted it so we could project our ipad to the TV and watch something other than cable at night, but when we inquired, the front desk staff told us it would be $15/day PER device. Hilarious! Even Venice Beach had free wifi. On the beach. The fridge was labeled "not for food," and all the drinks in there were not even slightly chilled. Elevator next to our room did not go to the lobby. When we pressed floor 1, we went to the first floor but then ended up in a maze, and when we asked, they told us that the elevator doesn't go to the lobby because we got a "room without amenities." hehe It continues. The parking was $20/night if you just store your car and don't take it out. It was $45/night if you use your car. So we rented a car, then we were trying not to use it at all so we didn't have to pay even more. Just so ridiculous. I spent 10 minutes taking the coldest shower of my life because it was not intuitive figuring out how to get hot water. I eventually figured it out, but by that time my shower was over and I was shivering. The shower also had someone else's hair in it when we arrived. blek. The bathroom wall was made only of glass. So when we arrived, from the beds, you had a full view of the shower and toilet!!! Eventually, my husband found a button that made an electronic screen go down so that you didn't have to watch someone else use the bathroom!! What in the world??? Did they run out of money to build a real wall? I liked that we had an outdoor little balcony, but it was made gross by a cigarette holder filled with cigarette butts and rainwater. We attempted the outdoor hot tub, but it was evident that it hadn't been cleaned in quite some time by all the white foam. (Look up what the white foam in hot tubs is - you'll never forget after you know.) Finally, on our reservation, I wrote that it was our honeymoon, and we'd love some non-alcoholic bubbly. Well, we checked in and nothing was in the room. That was fine - I figured if we had to pay for wifi, we wouldn't be getting anything. Our money, passports, iPads, were strewn about and we went downstairs for 10 minutes (add on 10 for the time it took to figure out the elevator). When we came back, there was a bottle of alcoholic champagne with a note that hadn't been there before. I was a little weirded out that someone just went into our room with all of our valuables laying around. When I spoke with the front desk, I told them we appreciated the gesture, but we requested non-alcoholic and we were uncomfortable with someone in our room unexpectedly. The front desk guy said that's because we didn't press the "privacy button," which he said in a manner like I should know what that is or as if all hotels have this. I told him I had no idea what that was. He explained there's a button that you have to press so that staff doesn't walk into your room. I said, oh ok, I've never in all my years experienced that at a hotel, just the privacy signs for the door handle. He said, "We've done away with those." LOLOLOL All I have to say about that is - if you are going to create a system that is different from the entire WORLD - then explain it when guests arrive!!! Then he said he could send up a NA bottle, but we'd have to go back up to our rooms. We replied that it took us 20 minutes to get downstairs, so we wouldn't be going back up now. We were getting dinner and we could get it on our way back in. When we arrived back, we picked up the bottle, which needed a bottle opener. We requested to borrow one, and another guy at the desk said, "Wellll......as lonnngggg as we get it bacccck...." as if we were little kids who wanted to steal his shit. The only - and I mean only - saving grace for this place is Adriano. He was so kind, tried to make our stay better when we voiced our displeasure, and gave us the bikes to use on Venice Beach. When we wanted to keep the bikes longer, we called him and he said no problem. What a disappointing start to my honeymoon, a once-in-a-lifetime vacation. Overall the snack bar is stocked well--and priced high. If money is not too tight this is a good staycation place. They do change for everything especially if you are a party of 4. Hotel's lobby is dingy and has a terrible pungent smell of a toilet cake. All common areas smell like that including their restaurant. Absolutely repulsive. I had to hold my breath every time we were walking through. Upon our check in late evening we had a strange overly friendly and somewhat aggressive young male who seemed to be under influence of some sort to size us up and follow us into the elevator while getting into our faces and continuously trying to make a conversation. The very next day the same person was circling the lobby area during the lunch time. Staff seemed to be familiar with this person and didn't seem to mind him. We saw a lot of people like that outside of the hotel as well. Extremely sketchy outside at night (lots of people are openly dealing drugs) and not much better during the day. We had few unprovoked close calls with people who were having bad reactions on drugs within 30 minutes when we were having a breakfast near by at the outdoor patio. The entire area of the park has a very serious rodent infestation which is an obvious issue and is ignored. Dishonest. Fraudulent charges on a bill. There is no way to take care of it if you already left the hotel. One gets constantly rerouted through the phone tree, you can't get anyone to address the issue. A group of 9 of us came for my sisters birthday. Had an excellent stay. Adriano was so helpful and even arranged a cake and wine sent to the room which made our stay so special. Neri was very helpful. All the staff were great. The view from the ocean view room was amazing. Thank you for such a great time. The location of this hotel is spot on!!! My husband and I recently found ourselves in Santa Monica for an afternoon. After enjoying our site-seeing around the Santa Monica Pier, we decided to spend the evening in a local Hotel and drive home the following day. We ended up staying at The Shore Hotel on Ocean Avenue directly across from the Pier & the Beach. From the Champagne at Check-In to the welcoming and refreshing Chilled Fruit Plate waiting for us in our Beautiful Room, pretty much everything about our stay was so, so far beyond our expectations. Firstly, the Hotel itself is beautiful and very well maintained. There always seemed to be a staff member quietly busying themselves in the lobby, a hallway or elsewhere on the grounds. Each member of the staff that we passed in the Lobby or a Hallway always offered a big smile and a pleasant greeting. There is ample security at and around this property. Most seem to be in plain clothes and they definitely don't stand out. While the Hotel is certainly in a very nice area, it is still reassuring to know that the on-site security is so well thought out. As for our Room, it was very large, well appointed and spotlessly clean. The Bed was very comfortable, the Shower in the flow-through Bathroom was excellent and our Balcony had a gorgeous Ocean/Pier View. We didn't have a chance to visit the Pool/Spa area in the enclosed Oceanfront Courtyard, but it looked very inviting as well. We enjoyed Breakfast at the Hotel Restaurant (can't remember the name) before Check-Out, and by this point to no great surprise, we found the Food, Service and Value to be as perfectly on-point as everything else. Note: While I'm not sure if it is affiliated w/ the Hotel, there is an EXCELLENT Restaurant next door called "The Blue Plate Taco" that my husband and I both highly recommend as well. On a positive note, the view from the room is very nice. The pool area is pretty sweet, too. I enjoyed going to the pool in the morning & grabbing a bite to eat. For their limited size.. The design of the rooms is quite nice, as well. It was decently clean. On the other hand, the wi-fi is god awful. Like, about as bad as I've ever seen in a hotel. Good LUCK getting any work done or trying to play a game on your phone before bed. There's no streaming options or entertainment options, really at all.. The TV situation is so out-of-date it's disappointing. I have work to do & the bigger screen is a major help. At other hotels, I usually cast my laptop to the TV no problem. But of course, Sharecast doesn't work.. fair enough. I'm not a whiny type of guy, I can make it work. So I walk to the lobby & ask the man at the desk for an HDMI Cord (and i know they have plenty) after which he looked at me like I was crazy for asking such a question. He almost looked at me like he thought I was trying to steal an HDMI cord? Like c'mon man. i'm already upset that I can't get any work done in your out dated hotel.. now you're going to give me an attitude about a simple question? yikes. The young woman at the desk was very kind to me before he barged in.. Lastly, They need to stop handing out that bathtub champagne, too. I'd rather not get a drink than be given that stuff. I could continue, but i'm not one to pile on. The point stands - Would not come back. I'm not a TV Exec.. so It's not all about pools and views, The Shore. What a wonderful experience from check in to check out. Where to begin, we were in house for a wedding that was staying at the hotel and everyone was lovely. I valet parked my car which was a smooth experience and very friendly. Once in the hotel I was checked in by a young gentleman whose name I didn't get but he was working with Ally and they were also both awesome and nice. The room was ready early which I knew wasn't required but they made it happen for us and it was very much appreciated. The room was beautiful with a nice balcony that faced the street. Security was nice, front desk was lovely, I had a question about my charges and Adriano, the Head Concierge, asked me if I needed help as I stood in line waiting for a front desk agent to open up. The hotel was very well kept and the pool was clean and it was nice to be able to have a drink there as well. What a wonderful experience overall. My only nudge of an issue was that on the balcony I had full cell phone service but inside the room I had no cell phone service, but the wifi was solid I just couldn't make any calls in the room which might be the only thing to stop me from staying again. read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. I woke up the day of my reservation with a terrible case of the flu. I called the hotel and asked if my reservation could be modified for a week out - cause you know, I don't want to get any of their other customers or staff sick. The front desk customer told me I'd have to wait until Monday to speak with on site reservations. I called my credit card company (who I booked the room through), who attempted to contact the hotel and again, no change. I called the hotel back, and after asking for the "call back Monday" advice to be sent via email to me so I had next steps in writing for a travel insurance claim, a very hostile front desk supervisor told me no, all communication needs to go through the booking agent and they will not send me anything in writing. So I call back Monday. What does the onsite reservation agent tell me? I need to contact the booking agent. I've never been so frustrated and agitated by an encounter with an hotel. Do not stay here. This is based on the restaurant side. We didn't stay here, we stay at their sister hotel. We only ate here for lunch. Service was incredibly slow and rude. The server was our host who told us to sit anywhere that was available. He didn't even ask us for drinks. It was about 15 minutes before he came to our table to ask us what we wanted to drink. The menu is brought up by scanning the QR code that's on the dining table using our phone. We ordered as soon as he got our drinks because he didn't know when he would be back to take down our food order. I wanted something on the lunch menu that started at 12pm to closing, daily. (Salmon with grilled veggies) he indicated that it would not be available until 1pm. We were there a little after 12:30 and the menu said 12:00 that that's what available. He told me to look on the breakfast menu. I didn't want breakfast for lunch :/ but I didn't want to have to drag my family to another restaurant and wait. He didn't check on us or refill any waters. He was only waiting on one other table with three people. So I don't know what the hold up was. Our food was ok - good. My husband got the cheesy grits with shrimp (I don't like grits but that was good). I got steak and eggs. (They don't know how to grill a steak, it was tough but flavor was decent) My daughter ordered buttermilk pancakes. We can taste the steak juice on the pancakes. So she soaked her pancakes in syrup and butter. I liked that they used disposable utensils and dinnerware. We got mini jars of syrup and mini bottles of Tabasco sauce. My daughter said they are the perfect size for her dolls. When we were done, the man asked for my husband's credit card to swipe for our bill. I thought that was a bit weird. After he came back, he said he gave himself a tip..... :/ I didn't think he deserved what he gave himself. We most likely won't be coming back to stay and definitely not to eat here. read more

Perfect location for an overnight weekend stay in Santa Monica. The Santa Monica pier and beach are just across the street. So peaceful to walk along the beach and watch the sunrise on a sunny, clear weekend morning. Booked a first responders rate which included a discount for parking and waived the destination fee. Extra perks included a welcome drink and free use of bikes, which we did not have time to use. The room was so comfortable and surprisingly quiet on a Friday evening. Rain shower was great. See through shower allowed more light into the bathroom, but a shade quickly lowered for privacy. Balcony was perfect for a private secluded breakfast with a view to the garden and the ocean. Keurig available in the room with Wolfgang Puck coffee. Self parking was discounted to $20 with in and out privileges. Masks were required and enforced. Elevator limited to one family at a time. Pool opened for limited use. No outside food allowed (and the servers would send people out that did not follow that rule). Hand sanitizer located throughout. Hotel staff was the best. So helpful and welcoming. Would definitely stay again at this great LEEDS certified hotel by the Santa Monica Pier. read more

But our room gave off hospice vibes, it's been under construction forever, got a metal sliver in my foot in hot tub and my only guess was that it must've blown over from where they're welding/renovating. Last time I came her I gave them 5 stars for the beautiful location, decor, and wonderful hospitality despite the fact that there were loud union protests going on in front of the building. This time under Covid circumstances they had tissues and such out and parking was self-guided ( I prefer). They had restrictions on the amount of people in the pool and in elevators which is fine, but i was really not happy with the reinforcement. People were smoking marijuana in the hallways and I had to walk past them. 25% of the guests were not wearing a mask. College or just out of college age guests crowded onto the elevator without masks. When a couple women came onto my elevator without masks, I asked if they could kindly wait for the next one but they hopped on in and covered their mouths with their hands and pressed the button. I know Shore must be doing alternate promotions to keep yield rates up but they need to enforce better. Worse is I was only there for one night, arriving around 4pm and there was no room to go out to the pool. When I came back after dinner I found that they had closed the pool to 8pm. Part of what I like is sitting quietly in their sauna tub at night when it is warm out. It was 8o degrees. A perfect night. For the money there are many other hotels in Santa Monica which I will need to try for my annual Santa Monica weekend. read more

The Shore hotels valet parking operation is the biggest scam and all they care about is taking your money. Let me explain: My family and I have been renting cars from SixT's Shore Hotel branch for the past 3 years. SixT shares parking with the Shore Hotel. I had dropped off a rental car on the 16th of July and on the 20th of July realized that I had taken something out of the trunk so I had to go back and drop that item off. I arrived to the parking lot and was about to park, but a lady who was from the valet service let me know that this spot is for valet parking only and that I can go and "Park anywhere on P2, or on the SixT parking spot," which was right behind. I reversed out and didn't park in the SixT spot as one of their rentals had come back right then and was parking there. So, I went down to P2 and noticed that majority of the parking spots had a sign that said "Shore Hotel - Valet Parking Only" so I obviously did not park in any of those spots. I eventually found a parking spot that did not have the "Shore Hotel - Valet Parking Only" sign. Mind you that this parking spot I found was in between two spots that had the "Shore Hotel - Valet Parking Only" signs. (Will attach a video to this review for reference lol) So I go and return the item and make my way back to my car, only to find that a parking violation sticker had been put on my windshield. Out of confusion I went to the valet counter to ask why I had been given this parking violation? I was going to speak to the woman who had initially told me to go downstairs and park anywhere in P2, but she was busy with another customer, so I spoke to another lady. This valley person said, " you have parked in a valet parking spot and therefore you are getting this ticket and you will have to pay once you are exiting." I responded by saying that she told me to park anywhere in P2 and I did not park in a valet parking only spot as there was no sign on the parking spot that said otherwise. I told her that I obviously wouldn't park in a parking spot that I am not allowed to park in , the same way, I wouldn't park in the handicap only spot if I am not handicapped To which she responded saying that, "My colleague told you to park in SixT parking spots only and if you want to leave this parking lot, you will have to pay this or sit here and do nothing." to which I responded saying, "you were not there and that is not what she said. I am not dumb. I know where to park and where not to park. If you were not there, don't make this stuff up." Realizing that this had become a situation of, he says she says, I asked to speak to the manager. Entering the conversation is now the power hungry and rude, Director of Valet services, Rudy Cabrera. I explained the entire situation to him and showed him the video which clearly indicated that the parking spot which I had parked my car in did not have that sign. He laughed, and responded by saying, "Listen buddy, I'm not going to sit here and argue with you. You have made a violation and if you want to leave the premises, you will have to pay the ticket or do nothing and just stay here in the parking lot." I responded by repeating that again, the parking spot I chose didn't have the sign which said Valet Parking Only so I parked there and that if I wanted to receive this parking violation, I would've just parked in a spot that explicitly said "Shore Hotel - Valet Parking Only." He turned around and said the entire P2 level of parking was for Valet Parking Only and that I should've assumed that the spot I had parked in, was also for Valet Only (which I thought was absolutely absurd lol) In the end, I ended up paying them $10 which isn't a lot, but I didn't go there with the expectation of having to pay for parking as SixT always lets you leave the parking lot for free whenever it is anything relative to SixT. So I had to search through my entire car to find a bunch of dimes and quarters so I could pay these guys off and leave the premises. (ALSO WHEN I WAS MAKING THE PAYMENT, RUDY APPROACHED THE DESK AND TOLD HIS TEAM TO BE MORE CLEAR WITH THEIR INSTRUCTIONS FROM NOW ON IN FRONT OF MY FACE) I honestly never write long, negative reviews unless I have an extremely bad experience and $10 isn't a lot to whine about, however, how this Rudy chap and his team treated me, really made me feel anxious and stressed out the entire day. I'm writing this review a day after this happened because I wanted to give myself a day to absorb what happened, discuss with my lawyers, and see if this experience warranted my time for a review. Just be cautious of this hotels valet parking staff and their money hungry agenda next time you decide to leave your car there or for any SixT related work you may have. read more

It got off to a bad start and only went downhill from there. Even though I called ahead to make adjustments, the manager, Sam, was completely unwilling to accommodate. Sam didn't seem to care at all about the situation. My credit card travel agent was stunned by his behavior, and I've never heard an agent react like that before to hotel staff. That was just the beginning, though, and the hotel itself didn't improve matters. There was construction on the first floor (which wasn't mentioned during booking), no drinking water available in the rooms, low water pressure in the shower, and trash overflowing at the coffee bar. I won't go into more detail, but you've probably seen this kind of situation before. I'd suggest staying at a place with better management. read more

I stayed there last week. I was stunned to wake up after a long flight to find sand in my bed, despite the fact that I'd come straight from the plane. it was clear that the sheets had not been changed. was too tired to complain at 1am but next morning the hotel apologised, replaced the bedding & offered free breakfast & wifi. when I checked out very early the next morning I saw that these charges were on my bill. I disputed them and was told that was a mistake but they couldn't issue a new bill as they were in the middle of changing systems. my credit card was subsequently charged for these items despite me not authorising the charges. it's now been ten days, three phone calls, four emails and the charges haven't been reversed. I rarely post reviews but this hotel is appalling. dirty sheets are bad enough but charging you for the " apology items"? disgusting read more
