I quit going before my rx was up. Approximately 10 session in. I left in exactly the same condition as I started. The therapist would spend a maximum of ten minutes with me. I got absolutely no feedback from him on anything I reported about my condition. The assistants didn't know what I had done previously, didn't instruct me clearly and seldom corrected me when I did an exercise wrong. They would constantly leave me and come back after I was done. I got a set of exercises by email after my first visit and it was never updated. On my last visit, the office had moved without notifying me. That made me about 10 minutes late and my therapy was, consequently, cut short. There was never any offer of ice, tens, etc. at end of session. read more

I came in a week after surgery to repair SLAP tears on both of my shoulders (bicep tenodesis). Dr. David Hodges and the whole Newport Beach office guided me through the rehabilitation process with care and love. Recovery from surgery isn't always a straight shot and you'll hit hurdles along the way, but while I was under David's care I always felt reassured and that I was in good hands to get back on track in those times. I just completed 12 weeks of physical therapy at Coury & Buehler, Newport Beach with my therapist Anthony Vu. I broke my foot, needing surgery to place a plate & screws. Six months after surgery I was able to start PT and Anthony truly got me walking pain free again. With the help of Nate, Gene, & Bella to help with the prescribed exercises, I am feeling great. Out of all the typical physical therapy places that have physical therapy assistants. I would say that Court and Bueller is definitely one of the better ones. I've actually been to this area twice because it happened to be conveniently in the same building as where I work. The first time I went for my lumbar or a lower back pain. And the second time I went in for thoracic outlet syndrome or neck scalene pain with some numbness and tingling in the hands. Both times. My therapist was William Bill roper. I would say of all the main physical therapist I've seen at any location. He's definitely one of the best ones. He has a humorous goofy dry wit, but I can tell he's both very smart but also very adaptable. On both my low back and neck he can put a lot of pressure on the very tight muscles and comments were it's particularly bad for me and can think of good stretches to do. Whenever Bill wasn't available for the appointment times I wanted the usual replacement I got was Benjamin Ott who was also pretty good and one that bill personally recommended. Occasionally I had to get other therapists and they were fine but not as memorable. Maybe it it was because I usually came on early mornings when it was slow but unlike other physical therapy places with assistance, usually when I got to the part when the PT assistant would have to guide me through my exercises. Actually thought those are one of the better experiences I've had in that regard. Usually at most they would work with two patients at a time, but most of the time I got the full attention from the assistant, which is something I appreciate that. Sadly, a lot of other physical therapy places I've learned do not do. The main reason I'm giving this place a four star and not a five star or a couple of reasons. 1) this place is one of the most strict at not starting physical therapy without insurance approval. You can in theory start a out of pocket PT payment, but if you want to use insurance this place straight up won't start treating you, which may leave you high and dry for at least a week if not two weeks. 2) this is more of a nitpick and might have something to do with my thoracic outlet syndrome which is hard to treat. But I found other physical therapy places that have one to one physical therapist to patient therapy with no assistant. I've come to much prefer those because you get to be more intimate with the physical therapist and in my case also act as an occupational therapist on the side to actively help with things like proper posture and alternate ways to do things to avoid pain. Sadly at Courey Even with the best therapists, they only see you for like 10 to 15 minutes before they move on to someone else, meaning they don't have much time to help you with the smaller things. Otherwise I don't have too much to complain about, if you have a issue and you think you would be fine with having a physical therapy assistant help with the exercises I think Courey is one of? If not the best place to get that type of physical therapy treatment. I'll just much prefer places that are one to one physical therapist to patient relationships only. read more

I didn't realize how hard it is to recover from knee replacement surgery. Thank goodness for the Coury & Buehler's Newport Beach office. Tina and Bill have been my ongoing therapists and seeing them are some of the best parts of my week. They genuinely care about my physical progress as well as encouraging me in my mental outlook. They are incredibly responsive to each individual challenge that I'm facing, using a variety of techniques to meet me where I'm at. A feature that I really appreciate is the app that they've given me access to with my personal rehab stretches and strengthening exercises. It's been really helpful to reference when I get home and need to work on my own, to have access to this resource. I'm incredibly grateful to my surgeon for recommending Coury & Buehler! read more

I was referred to Coury & Buehler by my surgeon after having hip replacement surgery. I worked with Kiana and Ben, and after 12 sessions, my hip is pain free for the first time in many years. I am even able to do many activities that I was unable to before surgery, such as lateral motion exercises and ladder drills. They were very understanding of my background as a former athlete and worked with me to add and modify activities on a regular basis as soon as I felt I was ready to take on more challenging exercises. They also provided really in depth explanations to me about exercises and the recovery process. In my past experiences with physical therapy, I often encountered a cookie-cutter "one size fits all" approach, but at Coury & Buehler, I felt that things were more tailored to my specific recovery needs. He really listened to me and found creative ways every visit to take me down the path to hope and healing. So my doctor sent me to Physical Therapy initially for vertigo. I was simply amazed when Abagail Cavalier( my physical therapist) had me do a few exercises that cured my vertigo! I was astounded and so delighted that I could walk again in a straight line without leaning on a wall for balance. Abagail( whom I called Abby) was so professional, knowledgeable and genuinely kind attended to all my aches and pains. I had a reoccurring back pain that she worked magic through massage and exercises. I also had shoulder pain which she smoothed out. I am forever grateful for her expert care. I have scoliosis and for most of my adult life, I have suffered from the chronic pain associated with it. I have seen chiropractors, I have done acupuncture, I have done PT elsewhere and let me tell you, I have not found the type of pain relief and improved range of motion that I have attained while working with Dr. David and his staff at Coury & Buehler - Newport. I went a lot further than I thought I was going to but I had a knee replacement and needed extra pt time and they did a great job. My six therapist that were instrumental in my recovery: Michelle Doug Scott Christina Nick Alicia Both Knees, partial replacement due to arthritis on August 7th. With the help of six therapists has been amazing. In fact, family and friends find that my recovery is way beyond where they thought I would be. The massage session was instrumental in establishing flexibility not only for that day, but permanently. Each session increased my knee and leg/muscle movement and increased my strength. After 8 sessions or four weeks past surgery I was appreciably restored to a level I have not had in a lot of years. All six of these therapists were continually engaging me in conversation getting to me and my goals. Their approach was professional but developed a relationship with me, the patient. It is too bad that CBPT could not have extended their commitment with Providence Healthcare HMO for I would have greatly enjoyed finishing out my therapy with CBPT. I do believe that the loss of commitment was on Providence's responsibility and not on CBPT. read more

I severed 2 tendons in my right hand. After 6 months of therapy at a different office, I was informed "that's about all we can do for you". Luckily my surgeon insisted I had 6 more months of healing and referred me to Coury & Buehler. When I started with them, I couldn't put any pressure or weight on my hand without severe pain, nor could I straighten or close my hand. All the staff at C&B are friendly and positive, they are fully dedicated to their patient's success and developed a thorough program for me to meet my goals. I first came to CBPT because I had been having pain in my lower back 10 months after delivering my first baby; I thought this was normal after having a baby. I couldn't pick up my daughter without feeling pain, do much housework, or stand for more than an hour at a time. I was feeling pretty defeated. I could barely stand up straight and my posture was terrible. I never told David, but after my first appointment back in May, I cried all the way home because I was able to walk out to my car pain free and sit up straight with no pain for the first time in almost a year. I have been going to the Newport office for about three months and working with Dr. David Dodge, he listens, is patient, and is empathetic. When I first walked in to the office I was met with a clean environment, which I was nervous about because of our current pandemic. I saw a clean and orderly office and talked to David without feeling like he didn't understand my pain. He was concise about what we needed to do to get me back on track and feeling 100% better. I was skeptical at first as I had never been to Physical Therapy. Now, I am so close to feeling like my pre-baby self, and on the days he pushes me to give a little more of myself, he knows how to motivate me to keep working. I hurt my back last month picking up my baby, I couldn't come in for physical therapy due to a family emergency, but I immediately began doing the recommended stretches prescribed to me twice a day instead of once a day, and my back felt better after 48 hours. I am grateful that I have the tools to fix myself now, and I am thankful for Dr. David Dodge's expertise. Also, it is easy to get an appointment during my baby's nap time and if they don't have one, on more than one occasion someone has called me when there is a cancellation. Dr. David Hodges is one of the best PTs out there and has been coined "The Prodigy" (by the partners of Coury & Buehler PT)! Problem: I started noticing major pain in my right knee when I ran the OC Half Marathon in 2016 and followed that up with a Spartan Super Hawaii Race. 4 years later, the pain was constant and I needed to finally take care of it. Solution: Dr. Hodges said it wasn't torn, however we needed to come up with a rehab plan to strengthen my glute muscles in order to support the meniscus of the knee. 8 weeks in and I'm feeling a lot stronger and more confident in my physical and day-to-day abilities! BONUS: 1. Plenty of parking and located on the first floor of the building (separate entrance) 2. Clean facilities; friendly and professional staff (front desk - Ally) 3. Location!!! You're in Newport Beach (right off the 73 freeway). You can get cryotherapy at Polar Cryotherapy (down the street), walk your dogs at Newport Bay Nature Preserve, or spend the day at the beach!! I saw a huge improvement in my physical issues and she even assisted with some nagging things that came up as well. I went to the Newport Beach location for a shoulder problem. I have to tell you that I have been to a few other centers for PT treatment over the years and this is by far the best I've been too. My therapist was Abagail Cavalier who really helped me get out of pain and add strength to my shoulder. Also, when I had a flare up of carpel tunnel, Abagail taught me stretches and exercises to help with that too. They really do have a whole body approach. Coury & Buehler Physical Therapy also post your at home exercises on their Patient Portal they set up for your use. It contains photos and video of what you need to work on. This feature really helped me do the exercises and stretches that were assigned at home correctly! I highly recommend Coury & Buehler! read more

I was referred to PT for both my shoulder (a new injury - no surgery needed) and my knee (an ACL repaired, meniscus torn and longstanding injury). I had never been impressed by PT in the past, and always found it sort of useless, even after fairly major surgery. My husband recommended C&B Physical Therapy, who he had been going to see, and although I was skeptical, I was in constant pain and wanted to explore every non-surgical option. Having now seen Callan for both my issues, and being released on both, I cannot express how grateful I am for his intervention and care. C&B has completely changed my view of Physical Therapy, and I could not recommend anyone higher in terms of providing successful resolution of pain from injuries. For starters, outside of the initial assessment, nothing seemed cookie cutter. Callan always started by asking me how I was doing and depending on what I said, he would cater the any tests he conducted and treatment he provided very specifically to what I said and how what he saw. His is a master of his craft, and is able to identify multiple contributing factors to a single area and ensure all of them addressed. Not only that, he would take the time during treatment to pause periodically and ask me if it felt any differently, so he could either continue or change course depending on how I was responding. He took his time to assess, consider and treat me. It was always personalized and I always felt that Callan was completely committed to solving my individual and specific pain. He takes pride in his work and providing the best care. This is evident in the results, which are that my shoulder is nearly pain free, and I can move through motions and use it in ways that were totally inaccessible before I started working with him. For my knee, I went from not being able to run at all to being back at 10+mi runs with little to no pain. He also provides an excellent maintenance/prevention exercise plan to keep your injury from returning after treatment. The PTAs are all wonderful as well. They give you the right amount of feedback and assistance as merited by your comfort level in your exercised. They are a fantastic resource and very helpful. The entire office has a great sense of comradery and it is welcoming and warm. I would recommend you schedule your appointments in person because getting through on the general phone line that services all the locations can be very difficult at times. If you are in need of physical therapy, I cannot more highly recommend Callan, or Coury & Buehler in general. You won't find anyone more capable of helping you through your injuries. read more

This was the BEST experience I have ever had with PT. I had two awesome DPTs who helped me - Asmea Judeh and Kristin Meily - along with all the other staff who would assist with the exercises. Both Asmea and Kristin spent the time to figure out the source of a long-standing neck and shoulder issue, and designed an exercise and therapy program to build strength and flexibility. It's been more than six months since I 'graduated' and I'm continuing to focus on reinforcing what I learned during my treatment. I hobbled in to Coury and Buehler pushing my Walker for my first PT appointment after fracturing my "sub-capital femur". I did everything they suggested, had home exercises and weekly in-person physical therapy. I went from despair (incapacitation) to delight over my progress over a period of several weeks and am amazed at how far I've come with the help of my therapist and the staff at Coury and Buehler. Kiana was my physical therapist At Coury & Buehler Newport Beach. She was outstanding. After she worked with me on my balance and walking ability I can get in and out of the car much easier. My doctor recommended this place for PT due to my chronic case of plantar fasciitis. After 10 or 12 visits I quit going because nothing they were doing was helping. The types of therapy changed practically with every visit and it just seemed they had no idea of what they were doing. I did learn how to stretch my calves however so I thank them for that. The one thing that I did not like was that I would spend 20-30 minutes with a PT therapist and then they would abruptly hand me off to someone to oversee my stretches and the variety of things they would have me do for another 30 minutes. It was not a very warm and inviting place compared to the other PT places I have had the opportunity to visit over the years. I will not go here again in the future. I told my doctor how disappointed I was with the treatment I received here. read more
