I paid for a physical therapist, but instead I got an unlicensed student. I am a longtime suffer of foot pain, and I attempted to continue physical therapy at California Therapy Solutions (CTS). I was assigned a student who, while knowledgeable, was inexperienced in a clinical setting. This was disappointing, but the student was enthusiastic and appeared to have a good understanding of my condition. After 2 visits, I had regressed quite a lot due to overloading a muscle group. I think the initial assessment of my strength and muscle stamina was incorrect and the student didn't modify my exercises appropriately. This resulted in severe cramping and muscle stiffness and has caused other conditions I have to flare-up. I am worse off now than when I started. I do not blame the student for my bad experience, but I do blame CTS for their poor therapy/training structure. The licensed physical therapist, named Bill, who was in the office, did not supervise the student. Bill did not assess me or observe the student while he was assessing me. Bill did not observe us while I was receiving instruction and performing exercises. I believe it is inappropriate for a student to be given full authority over patient assessment and treatment before they are a licensed professional. If you don't want a student treating you without supervision, I suggest you go to a different location. I canceled my future appointments and I will look for a different physical therapist after my flair-up calms down. read more

I previously went to a different PT place that had me doing the same 4 exercises every session. They discharge me after 6 visits and I was still in so much pain. I had my pcp refer me to a new place, this one, where I met Max and Brandon and all their wonderful aides. They treated me like an individual and not just someone lumped in with a group that they had to hurry and see and send on my way. They learned about me and pushed me when I was ready, and took it easy on me when needed. They were invested in my care which was so appreciated. I spent a few months there getting better and stronger before being discharged with the tools I needed to succeed at home. I was sad to leave! This review is strictly for the billing department / Bree Ashurt, head of the billing department. FUTURE AND FORMER PATIENTS BEWARE!!!! Before this year, I had no bad things to say about California Therapy Solutions. I frequented the Irvine location two years ago when I had knee surgery and was able to receive the care I needed through wonderful physical therapists and their assistants. Despite receiving care two years ago, I recently received a letter in the mail about a balance due. It stated that I owed a total of about $1,500 from my appointments. I thought this was strange, considering the Irvine location helped me with understanding my copays and even celebrated with me when I didn't have to pay my copay anymore! I called the Irvine location to confirm with them that this bill was outstanding and I was referred over to the Costa Mesa location where Bree works. I gave them a call, left a message, and didn't hear back. So in the meantime, I contacted my previous insurance to ask them about the payments. As it turned out, my insurance had paid IN FULL! TWO YEARS ago! I waited for Bree to call me back, as I wanted to give her the appropriate time to gather information to reach back out to me. After no response, I called the next morning at 11 and got into contact with her, only for her to tell me that she got my message and was going to call me after her lunch. She told me that she took a look at my patient profile and that it was accurate -- that I owed $1500 to the company. When I told her I spoke to my insurance and they had proof of payment on their end and my patient profile end, she snapped back at me and said "that's impossible, because we didn't get anything. Who did you speak to?" She even laughed! I calmly told her that I spoke a representative yesterday and she demanded a name and time at which I called -- as if she could reach the same person to argue with, instead of just contacting the insurance company to speak to them? She quickly ended our conversation and said she would get back to me when she was able to contact my insurance. Lo and behold, I get a call not 10 minutes later of her snarky attitude and a fake apology of how the billing department messed up and it was a mistake on their end. And get this --- California therapy ended up OWING ME money. She said she would get a check sent out to me, confirmed my address, and ended our call. A month later, the check never came. I called back and asked to speak with her - the receptionist asked what I was calling about and she put me on a brief hold. She told me that Bree was there but that she (the receptionist) was the one to continue helping me out. She said she was looking directly at the check in her hand and it said it was returned to the sender. So not only did she have my phone number, my correct address, my email, and the check returned to her, she didn't want to bother sending me the money that the company owed me due to overpaying. So not only did they fail to contact me, Bree decided I wasn't worth talking to, so she had the receptionist take care of it. Mind you, they had already sent me a bill to the SAME ADDRESS when I allegedly owed them money. When I apologized to the receptionist for my frustration, I asked her why I wasn't contacted and she responded with "honestly, I have no idea. I couldn't tell you." I gave her a different address to avoid anymore issues and went on with my life. I received the check last week, it looks like the billing department got one of the numbers wrong. Make it make sense. I would refer my friends to CTS for any of their PT needs and tell them about what a wonderful experience I had, but this whole situation has turned it sour. I can't imagine how often CTS' billing department has gotten away with scamming their former patients (especially the older clientele they have) into sending them money for bills insurance has already paid for. Will never come to any CTS establishments or refer ever again. read more

I have had the best experience at CTS Costa Mesa. I have been going there, off and on, for years for rehab from injuries and hip and knee surgery. I have been to other PT facilities and there is no comparison. The therapists are very knowledgeable and friendly. The biggest difference between this and other PTs is that they don't leave you during the visit. The PT or assistant never leave your side so there is no downtime between exercises or treatments. The location and parking are easy to access and the facility is very clean. All equipment and tables are sprayed down with alcohol after each use. I highly recommend CTS at the Costa Mesa location. read more

I had the pleasure of working with Erin, Megan, Rachel, and Devon... all of whom were very thorough, friendly, and professional. I made an appointment with Bill and waited over one month to see him. I was referred to him by my physical therapist who came to my house a few weeks after hip surgery. I arrived and the receptionist said my appointment was 30 minutes later than I scheduled. I waited 45 minutes and then someone other than Bill came out. She informed me that Bill left unexpectedly in the morning. They didn't bother to try calling me. When I asked when she could book again she said it would be over one and a half months. I had the same type of experience as rowdy d who posted a review in 2019. Bill could not seem to remember my name or which side my injury was on. He called another woman by my name and had me push some huge apparatus until I was breathless then tried to counsel me on breathing when I was there for a shoulder injury. Something is definitely off and, unfortunately, he seems to be quite mean spirited. I thought about not leaving a review but i would not want to choose this provider based on other reviews that seem to be quite good. Maybe he prefers a specific type of client. I made the mistake of coming to California Therapy Solutions because of its convenient location close to my home and because I was misled by the positive reviews. I cannot stress enough the horrible experience I had as a client of Bill's. I am a former college athlete who has had several major injuries and surgeries. I have worked with numerous physical therapists but working with Bill was, by far, the worst experience I have ever had rehabbing an injury after surgery. He was mentally absent, disengaged and reckless during each of our sessions. Before beginning therapy, CTS requires clients to fill out extensive paperwork and bring in therapy referrals & doctor's notes, however, it seems Bill did not review any of my paperwork before beginning therapy together. My doctor wrote very clearly that I was not permitted to do any strengthening exercises until given notice. On our first day together, Bill required me to do several strengthening exercises despite my expressed concern and extreme pain levels. On the next visit, he let my newly operated arm flop completely over while measuring arm extension. His words to me were, "Whoa... That was like the worst thing I could have done. My bad..." He left me in excruciating pain and with potential hardware failure but it's okay because he said it was his bad..? Hearing his reaction to this made it pretty clear to me that he was sloppy in his treatment execution and lacked any real commitment to caring individually for each patient during every session. My sessions were scheduled in the morning, maybe he's not a morning person or was still asleep, but those visits were more than enough for me to decide that I would never be back. read more

CTS has helped me recover from a few injuries. I had surgery on my knee in september 2014 and my right shoulder in June 2015. Both times, I went to CTS to rehab my injuries. The staff is very professional and friendly. They helped me set obtainable goals in a reasonable time frame. They are willing to work with you on either just getting back to normal day to day activity or (in my case) back to competition condition.
