You can smell the Belgian waffles from stores away, which is why we were drawn to come back here after dinner! We shared a Nutella waffle with strawberries, scoop of vanilla ice cream and brownie bites. The waffle was okay... tasted like it was preheated. Workers are nice but the place could use an update or a clean up. Menu is pricey too.
I love a good milkshake so Cousteau's has been on my list of places to visit for years. We went there just before noon on a Saturday and we were the only people in the store. It took a while for us to be acknowledged by the employee in the back. She finally came out holding cleaning supplies to take our order. We ordered the Deep Search and air Kentucky milkshakes. Both were delicious and very rich! We had to take a little break as we were drinking them. But, as a chocolate lover, I thoroughly enjoyed having chocolate on chocolate on chocolate with chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce, and brownies. I will say the price is for perhaps a little high at nearly $8 per milkshake and it would've been nice for the customer service to be a bit better and swifter with only two customers in the store.
Since I stopped for Popsicles down the street my fiancé wanted to stop for Belgian waffles across the street. I absolutely love Cousteau's and I think it has become my favorite thing in Saint Augustine. So the Belgian waffle and hand spun milkshake shop it's called Cousteau's it is right across the street from hippo Popsicles. The inside is very small I think there's only around 11 stools seats with a high top bar. The inside has decorations of Marin submarine pictures as well as a framed poster of Jack Cousteau's underwater movie. They have a large menu with all of the hand spun milkshake flavors as well as the food options. I unfortunately was not be able to get anything because everything here has dairy egg or possibly cross-contamination. If you haven't been here on your trip to Saint Augustine I definitely recommend it. Most of the waffles are around eight dollars to nine dollars depending on what you're getting; and the milk shakes are around seven dollars to nine dollars. 10/10 I will say the girl at the counter she was the only one working there at the moment she was outstanding she was funny she was kind she was sweet and she was just well on our anniversary.
A Small shop that you could miss if you were walking down the main strip of St. George in Saint Augustine. The shop is a very quaint little shop a little bit off the beaten path but not too far. The service was top-notch and the staff was very happy go lucky. Super friendly and happy to tell you about the name of the shop and why they called it that Now, could've been that it was really hot that day, but that shake was out of this world. Major thank you !!!

We stumbled upon this small gem and we are so glad we did. We had delicious made to order waffles by Alexis, who despite losing her voice happily customized mine selection. The 5 year old was over the moon and ate all of his waffles with coconut ice cream, his choice and the first time ever had it. This would've been five stars if they had a bathroom. This is a place you don't want to miss.
Cousteau's is a must! I loved the tiny little shop feel of this location! The girl behind the counter was so sweet and made some amazing shakes! My daughter who is obsessed with peppermint, love the holiday north polepermint special and the steviesie was also super yummy, the chocolate chips in the dough were a little dark for me, but that's just my opinion! The shakes are super creamie and flavorful at a good price point! After hanging out for a bit and looking around at all the pictures of and about Jacques Cousteau, I wish they put more historical information up and how this waffle shake company started! The 10% discount for wearing a red beanie is a super cute touch and ironically my tiny human had her red hat on! The kids loved their shakes so much we had to go to the other location the next day when we saw it on our adventures. Definitely recommend!
My husband thought this was a breakfast spot so he was excited to try it. We came to find out it isn't, its more of a sweet treat spot. They have waffles, ice cream and milkshakes. So our breakfast was waffles with ice cream. The serving for me was enough not to much not to little. There was only one worker and the poor girl was ringing everyone up and then going in the back to make each order. The wait wasn't long because she was pretty fast, but still I felt so bad for her. The waffle was delicious and we really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend it either for breakfast or a treat.
Cousteau's is awesome. Period. Belgian liege waffles loaded with toppings, and creatively delicious milkshakes in this adorable little shop, inspired by The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. I am also thrilled that they have opened a new location in St. Augustine Beach, although this visit was to the original Old Town location. Servings are large enough to share, but no judgment if you want your order all to yourself. Great service, charming decor, and yummy flavors. Dessert is always perfect at Cousteau's.

We had 4 shakes this time for 5 of us. 1- Electric Jellyfish (blueberry), always a fave. Fresh and light flavor with while blueberries. $7 1- Ping Island (chocolate s'more with peanut butter), rich and good. $8 2- Deep Search (chocolate, brownies, and Oreo crumbs), rich but not thick. Good flavor. $8 each Never tried the waffles- they look good, but lean towards the shakes. Def something different to try.

This is always a treat whenever we go to downtown Saint Augustine. There are some of the best waffles around always fresh and taste delicious and is an awesome treat. The service is very good they are very friendly. This is certainly a must when you go downtown. read more

So yummy!! Cute little shop & location with indoor and outdoor seating. The worker was so patient with us and also played along while we were doing a scavenger hunt for a bachelorette. The waffles were a perfect size. Plenty of toppings and fairly priced. Would come back again! read more

What a disappointment. These little tourist spots are sometimes the best and this one was on the opposite site of the spectrum. The waffles are on the small side when considering price but that's not the worse of it. The waffles were undercooked with a very doughy middle. Then they pile on Nutella, and I mean pile on to about 1/2 + thick that you barely even taste the waffle. We also got the crime brûlée waffle and it was the same. The third waffle we ordered was another Nutella d it had several hairs in it. When I looked back in the kitchen, none of the staff had hairnets....so... My wife and I split the crème brûlée and each one our kids got the Nutella for a total of 3 waffles. We are fans of Nutella and crème brûlée but on this day, no one finished a single waffle after dropping almost $30.00. There are a lot of other area breakfast spots that I would encourage you to visit. read more
Surprisingly enough, Cousteau's had a whole bunch of Jacques Cousteau memorabilia. I couldn't really see the connection; when I think Jacques Cousteau, the first association that comes to mind is not "waffles with ice cream". I suppose if you attempt to eat an ice cream waffle in the Florida heat, you may have to go diving in the melted ice cream to find the waffle. Which was pretty much my experience. Not saying my chocolate ice cream with a chocolate-dipped waffle wasn't tasty, but it was a mess. They use a prominent local ice cream brand, which is helpful for me in trying to sample everything in the area. It's a small shop, and they make a point of saying that if you have allergies or particular dietary needs, this may not be the place for you. Honesty is always appreciated. If you're looking for a quick indulgence without any such restrictions, this will do. read more

What a treat! Two nights in a row means this place is a winner winner chicken dinner! Both nights my party of four had both waffles and milkshakes and both nights Cousteau's left us pleased! And stuffed! And slightly in a sugar coma! So far we have had multiple variations of the waffles and they have all been great! The only thing that is not our favorite is the bourbon whip cream. All of our milkshakes have been excellent as well - the triple chocolate, cookie dough, key lime, and seasonal peach! At this rate we will probably go back tomorrow! They gave us a punch card tonight and after 8 items we get one for free!?! Yes, we will be return! To those about to smack the sugar waffle toots, I salute you! read more

We stopped in here for "lunch" while in St. Augustine. We wanted something small to tide us over until dinner as it was rather late in the afternoon. And since it was my birthday weekend, my boyfriend was willing to humour me with dessert for lunch. We shared the Jaguar Shark Waffle and thr Ping Island shake. The Jaguar shark was delicious with it's bacon and pecans with bourbon sauce! I am glad we shared it. I was not so glad we shared the Ping Island shake, though. I wish we would have each gotten our own. LOL It was AMAZING! I absolutely love Peanut butter shakes, and this one was the bomb! read more
One of the best waffles and milkshakes me and my sister enjoyed! After eating cajun boiled seafood, we came here to end the night with a nice and filling dessert. It sure did hit us fast! We were by greeted by two gentlemen. The shop was tiny and cute with great decor including a film poster produced by the Cousteau's. We ordered the following waffles and milkshakes: - Belafonte: waffle topped with fresh strawberries, Nutella and whipped cream - Bond Company Stooge: creme brûlée waffle topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream - Deep Search: chocolate milkshake w/homemade crumbles & chocolate sauce (Omg, I died) - Be Still Cody: chocolate milkshake w/ a shot of espresso, mocha sauce and espresso whipped cream Overall, it was amazing and definitely had a difficult time finishing our waffles, but we did it. Don't expect the normal waffles you eat at restaurant chains, hotels or at home. The dough is thicker and more chewy so it's different, but still very good. And, the free sticker and punch card is also a cute little plus. read more

Costeau's has some of the best waffles I've ever had in my life! Like everywhere else in the city, parking is a pain, but the shop isn't super busy if you go in the afternoon. We ordered the strawberry crème brûlée waffle, the blueberry waffle with honey whipped cream, and a key lime pie milkshake. Both waffles were excellent and the milkshake was pretty good too! Out of the three items, I liked the strawberry waffle the most since I'm a big fan of crème brûlée. My boyfriend on the other hand liked the tartness of the blueberry waffle the most. Oh gosh heaven on a plate!! All the stars go to the Waffle with peanut butter, banana, whipped cream and local honey...droolllll!! Their waffles were like a heavier texture, not light and fluffy style, which I liked, more toothsome! Walking in the shop is teeny I don't think any seating inside?! But they have a small outside courtyard, we grabbed a table and dug in! They were delicious! We did not partake in milkshakes this time but there will be a next time! Lol! read more

I have to bump them up to five stars- now, this place is so decadent and I love their well thought out creations listed on the menu boards, but I seriously can't eat here every single time I come to visit. Waffles and ice cream together remind me of very rare moments when I was a kid when step-dad wasn't home for dinner and mom would announce waffle and ice cream sandwiches for dinner! Some of my favorite childhood memories revolve around food and being outdoors. And this combo simply makes me remember sitting around the table with my brother and sister and just grinning ear to ear waiting to dig in and the inevitable brain freeze to follow, because kids don't pace themselves! We ordered the Whirlybird- 2 scoops of vanilla bean ice cream, bourbon infused whipped cream, cinnamon apples and caramel drizzle- tell me that doesn't sound amazing! They cook those waffles fresh and they are warm perfection with the ice cold ice cream trying to melt, plus the toppings~ heaven!!! Next time I am feeling food scandalous- I will return! read more

Amazing dessert stop in St. Augustine serving Belgian eagles and milkshakes. My sweet tooth started tingling one night and we looked up dessert in the area. Cousteau's appeared like an oasis in the horizon. We made the trek over and were not disappointed. The menu offers many different types of Belgian waffles with various toppings ranging from powered sugar to male syrup with candied bacon. I choose the waffle sandwich with ice cream doped in chocolate. So delicious. Waffle was hot and chewy paid with vanilla ice cream that was cool and creamy. With the chocolate sauce topping, I was in heaven. This place is a must for visitors in St. Augustine. read more

Cousteau's Waffle & Milkshake Bar is one of the many ice cream shops in historic St. Augustine. It's located on Hypolita just a few steps away from St. George street. Just as the name says, they offer waffles and milkshakes. Their menu features about 10 different waffle selections and the same # of milkshakes choices. They also offer waffle bites which are topped with powdered sugar and come in packs of half or full dozen ($4-6). The BELGIAN LIEGE WAFFLES are made in-house from dough filled with Belgian pearl sugar then cooked and caramelized fresh-to-order on a hot cast iron press. Their HAND-SPUN MILKSHAKES are made with housemade soft-serve ice cream, then blended with various homemade goodies and topped with fresh whipped cream. - CALYPSO MILKSHAKE (key lime pie in a shake) was good but nothing memorable. - STEVESIE (vanilla milkshake with homemade cookie dough ganache) was a popular pick for our group of kiddos. SEATING: There's a cute little courtyard tucked away just outside their front door with a handful of high top tables & benches. It must have been a super busy night because the outdoor trash bin was beyond overflowing with containers. I'd say that was the only (small) negative about our visit but it was the second weekend of Nights of Lights so they were probably pretty busy. Regardless, we plan to try the waffles on the next visit. Specifically, my eyes are on the PLIMPTON - which is topped with fresh blueberry compote whipped cream and local honey. TIPS: Remember to get a punchcard & per their website, you can also get 10% off if you wear a red beanie. read more
Be prepared for sweetness overload! The ice cream options are limited, but the waffles are delicious. Don't think you could go wrong with any of their options here. The boyfie prefers fruity desserts and I was looking for ice cream. Boyfie went with Plimpton and I went with Matching Pajamas (this comes with two scoops of ice cream-- I opted with one chocolate and one vanilla). Outdoor seating was very pretty, which we preferred even though the "limited" indoor seating was available. read more
