This little spot is such a hidden gem! I had a tiramisu cold brew and it was so beautiful and very delicious. My one qualm was the wait - I'm not sure if one person staffing the coffee shop is typical but it took a really long time to get my one coffee. Hands down one of the best coffee spots I've been to in a while. Cute little shack with outdoor seating. You can get coffee, matcha, hot chocolate AND alcohol! I got an iced Americano with mocha; the water-to-coffee ratio was perfect. For a snack, I got a blueberry muffin, which was baked to perfection with chunks of blueberries and crystalized sugar on top - heaven, one crossiant to split, which we ended up getting another because it was buttered perfection, and a scoop of the recommended ice cream.. which I couldnt tell you the name, but it was a mix with toffee and it was heavenly. I needed some coffee while I was waiting for a table at a restaurant down the street. Since we had an hour wait my dad and I decided to walk around and find coffee. We stumbled upon this little shop. It was around Christmas so there were lines everywhere and this shop was no exception. The first thing I noticed is they were out of lids, straws, and may flavorings for their coffee. I ended up ordering a iced vanilla latte with oat milk. It was almost $8 for a 16 oz cup. The coffee was okay, nothing special. Definitely not worth $8. The young lady working the register was very nice and helpful, especially when they were out of so many things and it was so busy. read more

Came here while at Night of Lights for a warm sweet treat and saw a sign for the best hot chocolate in St. Aug and it was great! Reminds me of a Ghiradelli hot chocolate. I seemed like staff were a little overwhelmed which led to them being a little rude. Its very tight space and difficult to linger around while waiting for your drink. The vibe was cute, cozy and comfortable. read more

Hands down the best vanilla latte I've had in a long time. Do not go to Starbucks, make sure to head to this lovely coffee shop. The barista was sweet and quick. We ordered a hot latte and an iced coffee and our total was just $12. I didn't even have to put sugar in my coffee it was literal perfection. The building itself is beyond adorable. Passed this so many times and never tried it. We had 2 seasonal drinks. The iced peppermint icelatte and iced eggnog chai. They were so good. Wish they came in bigger sizes. Will go there again when walking around downtown. We didn't wait long but I'm sure it can get backed up when busy. I'd like to try the 21+ drinks too. read more

Went to Crucial Coffee today while it was storming in St Augustine. Service and staff were amazing. I ordered the Blueberry Cinnabon Latte and it was really good! The location was amazing as well at the garden. I would disregard people's bad reviews on here. Seems like they were just terrible people and give bad reviews for no reason haha. read more

My husband and I were visiting St. Augustine and grabbed food on the main street, but wanted to find a good coffee shop. We stumbled upon this gem and are so glad we did! Sabrina was our barista, and she was incredibly kind and friendly, making the whole experience even better. The seasonal coffee selection is amazing. The location couldn't be better... right by the Matanzas River and the fort, with a perfect ocean breeze while you sip your coffee. Such a great spot to relax and take in the charm of St. Augustine. I have gone to this place for many years when we would come into town, I'm not longer drinking coffee, so I was super excited when I saw they had chai tea (and house made!). The chai tea didn't have much sweetness to it, so I should have asked for a flavor with it. If you're looking for a sweet chai tea just make sure you have them add a flavor! read more

Wow this place has a lot going for it, but it sadly wasn't the experience it could have been. The lady working was pretty nice and seemed like she cared about what she was serving up. (I will say I heard the owner or manager getting onto her for something and heard some curse words exchanged, but maybe it was warranted, who knows) The drinks: We ordered a snickers cappuccino and an iced coffee. The snickers cappuccino was probably 50% foam which really disappointed me, and the drink itself tasted very lackluster if i'm being frank. The iced coffee was good however, and it was a decent size. The atmosphere: Its in a small garden which is pretty neat, but that can be great or terrible depending on how hot it is out, and if you wanted to sip on your drinks inside. Overall, I was unimpressed and probably wont be coming back. But the garden was nice to see and enjoy for a few minutes. read more

Cutest coffee shop ever! Located in a busy and touristy area in St. Augustine, we passed by it and thought it so small and quaint. Later that night, as it got cold and wet, we stopped by and saw a large line so I assumed it was great! The menu had interesting options at no normal coffee house prices but when we got our drinks, they were just ok. I will give it to the baristas though, patience of gold since my party was so indecisive, so thank you for that. read more

Cute little spot! They have coffee, ice cream, boba, milkshakes, smoothies, italian ice, any refreshing drink you can think off! This was perfect for 100 degree Florida weather! I also noticed that they serve pastries, cookies, and breakfast sandwiches. I was very happy with my milkshake- The St Augustine Mud (2 espresso shots in a milkshake). If you're lucky enough to stumble upon this little coffee and snack shack, you have to go inside. They offer made-to-order coffee beverages as well as specialty drinks. It's tough to just walk by here and not patronize this business. The environment is just so adorable and the lattes are not so bad either. Go here for sure. read more

This looks like a small wooden cabin. They have coffee and sweets to eat with the coffee. The server was nice and fast. And after almost a week drinking only American coffee, the espresso tasted like glory made beverage. Besides, they are right next to a restaurant where they have live music and you kind of enjoy it while you drink your coffee. I even went down next door and left the musician a tip, that's how good she was. read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I have tried their hot tea , lattes and hot chocolate and have always been 100% satisfied. They have a lovely garden with outdoor seating that is very relaxing and is also great for photos! Side note: Florida can be very hot and muggy during the summer so I highly recommend going first thing in the Morning to enjoy your cup of joe :) read more

On a trip to St. Augustine, we stopped by Crucial Coffee Cafe after some sightseeing. The best way to describe Crucial Coffee is that it's a shack. A shack with character. It's definitely a grab-and-go type spot because it's really small. There was quite a line when we visited on a weekday. The reason for the long line? Only one person was working and he was moving at a snail's pace. He didn't seem like he wanted to be there and he was taking his sweet time with every order. I ended up getting a smoothie. You get to make your own smoothie by picking out two fruits but they were out of several of the menu items listed. The service was really disappointing and took away from checking out a spot that we thought looked pretty cool. read more

I came here to get bubble tea. To be honest, I was disappointed at this place because they only have fruit flavored bubble tea. The most common bubble tea is the milk and black tea bubble tea, but they don't have it. It's almost like a coffee shop that serves frappuccino but not drip coffee . Honestly one of the best lattes I had on my week-long vacay! Iced vanilla latte with oat milk for the win! History

Established in 2009.

Founded by the late Wendy Relph, a beautiful, artistic South African woman who landed in St. Augustine more than 20 years ago after traveling around the world. After Wendy passed away, her son Greg and his partner Stefanie ane their five children stepped in as owner-operators to carry on her legacy at Crucial Coffee Cafe and its sister restaurant next door, The Gourmet Hut.

There were some other customers enjoying some ice cream, but there was relatively no line when we entered the store. The ordering happens inside, and you walk right into the ice cream cabinets and counter. All of the flavors are displayed and can be seen from the order line. Additionally inside, there are some tables to sit and eat at, along with a restroom. They sell a variety of merchandise along with their food and dessert selection. I liked seeing the community cork-board, where there were a variety of different posters and advertisements for events and services around the area. The menu consisted of traditional ice cream items one would expect - cups, cones, sundaes, banana splits, milkshakes, and more. They also had a Seasonal Special section on the menu, which I assume changes somewhat frequently. This trip, that item was a Donut Ice Cream Sandwich. There are some sundae combinations on the menu, but you can customize your own if you choose. There is hard ice cream, soft serve, and also some hot food options - hot dogs, sausages, and tamales, primarily. For drinks, they had canned soda, bottled, water, and some coffee options. As far as to-go, they had pints and quarts available for the ice cream, along with a freezer full of pre-packaged pints, quarts, and ice cream sandwiches for a grab and go situation. Having never been here before, our group needed some time to look at the menu and flavors before ordering. There were around 30 different flavors of hard ice cream, which included No Sugar Added and Dairy Free varieties, in addition to traditional full dairy varieties. I thought that the flavor selection was a healthy mix of traditional favorites and unique offerings. The staff working were friendly and helpful with answering all of our questions about the flavors. I even got to try a couple samples before making my decision. After much debate, I landed on trying the Donut Ice Cream Sandwich. This was made to order, and I got to choose the ice cream for the filling. I opted for the Kahula Chip for a coffee and donut flavor combination. I did enjoy this treat! The donut was fresh (and from a local spot), and the ice cream complimented it nicely. I thought the price was also fair for the size and specialty of the dessert, at $5.50 before any tax. My dog was waiting patiently in the car, so we ordered him a Doggie Ice Cream. It was a small boat of vanilla soft serve with peanut butter sauce and a Milk Bone. For my magnet collection, I also purchased one of their logo to take home with me. I personally did not pay the bill, but I thought the pricing here was fair and in line with any other similar type of shop. They took both cash and card. This shop is exactly what you would want out of an ice cream shop on the beach - fun, colorful, and local. They incorporate various other local businesses into their products. The theme of the establishment is appropriate for being a block away from the ocean, and there is a lot of color and fun decor to look at around the building. The staff were all pleasant, the product is tasty, and the price is right. Really enjoyed discovering Cone Heads on this trip, and will make sure to stop by again during my future trips to St. Augustine!

I was the lucky person who ordered the Amsterdam, which, much to our surprise and delight, was served on a hook with melted cheese stretching down to the tray it was served on. Everyone had to take a photo of my sandwich! It contained a variety of cheeses, so while the taste was fairly classic, it was a bit more nuanced than the Classic sandwich, which only had cheddar cheese. Everyone else thought their sandwiches were delicious too. And we all loved the homemade tomato soup! I tend to be a bigger fan of creamy tomato soups, but this one was rich with umami flavor and had a bit of a kick. While this is a counter-service restaurant that's pretty much no-frills, the employees were friendly and helpful. One of them refilled our water cups at the table, even though the pitcher she had was leaking, and I didn't get the sense that they normally did that. Sadly, they don't sell soft serve ice cream any more, but there are so many ice cream shops in this part of St. Augustine that you can easily walk somewhere else for dessert (which we did). The place wasn't crowded on a Friday evening and had lots of menu choices, so if you like grilled cheese sandwiches, whether creative or simple, be sure to stop by the Grilled Cheese Gallery on your visit to St. Augustine!
