Such a wonderful little shop. I noticed it months ago when jogging by; as far as window-shopping goes this place is an absolute delight. Finally stopped in when I was not sweaty and in running gear and am happy to report that the lady working there was kind and efficient. And really, I am still underselling how gorgeous it is inside. Spontaneously roamed around SF and was feining for a plant fix. All of a sudden I ended up at Cove! Small plant store, but offers both unique and common plants in varying plant types, price ranges, sizes, and colors. This Alocasia Amazonica caught my eye as I've always wanted this kind though some nurseries, plant stores, Home Depot/ lowe's don't carry this plant variety. This was priced at $30 which isn't too bad as the plant was pretty luscious with many leaves. read more

So I was drawn into this beautiful shop. Windows are full or gorgeous plants. I went in and even the pots and other odd and ends are adorable. I tried greeting and engaging the salesperson and got a dry response. Well there went my small talk. It's a very small shop so the silence is very loud. I did find something I wanted but almost didn't purchase it because of the vibe. I am definitely not in a rush to return here which is a bummer. Great products tho. read more

Babes, let me tell you.... This place is amazing! Low-key, kind of don't want to put this review in here so I can keep this place a little secret for me and my friends, but that would be a disservice to us all and the amazing shop owner. i have been coming here for years after grabbing a bite at Cafe Reveille and believe me when I tell you she does her homework finding high quality plants. The variety is sublime and the heath is amazing, and the price beats the majority of plant shops in the city. The city has a lot of plant shops, but this one has the ones you will be happy with. Outside of that, if you are a Paxton's gate fan for their taxidermy or gems you have to come here. The taxidermy insects she sources are incredibly high quality and the price is better for quality than anything Paxton has IMO. I love a few blocks away and went in to ask a few questions about potting a cactus into a custom vase I bought. Yes she was slightly shy at first but after talking for a little and asking her about all the amazing things I'm the shop she was very open and talkative. Quaint little place. Attractive selection of indoor plants. Nicely curated planters. Plant-themed greeting cards. Jewelry and scarves. It's easy to "find something beautiful" here. Since it's labeled a "gift shop", I wasn't sure if they'd have enough plants to choose from. But it turned out to be more than adequate. I'd say they carry 70% plants and planters, and 30% home accessories, jewelry, and greeting cards, etc. The owner is friendly - she even offered and repotted the plant for us. I live a couple of blocks away and intended to buy a few plants and things for my husband's birthday, which was today. I checked the Google business page for Cove and went over at 12:30 (the store supposedly opens at 12p). The gate was unlocked, but the store was clearly closed. I called to inquire about their Sunday (today) hours; while I couldn't see inside and didn't get close enough to look, it was obvious the owner saw me through the window because they answered right away and I was told abruptly that I should have called before "making the trip over"; they proceeded to mumble about the hours being "more theoretical", which I find less ironic-pretentious and more gross-pretentious, but to each their own. Cringe. In any case, they told me multiple times that I should have called first but failed to tell me when or if the store was going to actually be open, which was literally the only question I had called to ask. Things seemed a bit off, and I again inquired about the store hours, to which they snapped, "I dunno, like a few minutes or something", and hung up. I don't like to assume prejudice in situations, and to the owner's credit, the hours are indeed "theoretical" per the store's website, but you have to go to Cove's contact page to see this. Perhaps the owner was having a bad day, it happens to us all. But theoretically they own a business, and instead of answering cordially with a time they would be open, they looked at me through the store window, assumed I wasn't local and had no intention of buying anything, and dismissed me, which may or may not have been theoretically racist. I was a bit rattled and walked about a block up and bought some great plants at another boutique. Cove is a nice store theoretically, but there are dozens of others just like it in the area and after this experience I will not be returning (or theoretically attempting to return rather). read more

If I purchase plants from you, please don't be so short or speak in a condescending matter when someone is asking you how to take care of plants. Bought a plant here and less than a week later it started dying. I should have known when the lady who told me the plant told me "it needed a little love" - why would you sell someone a plant when you know it is dying? I asked a bunch of questions about the plant and was greeted with a really bad attitude and zero interest in answering any of my questions. I would stay away from this overpriced place. read more

I see the bad reviews on here and scoff at these entitled brats who want to be coddled and hand held thru every life experience, or they give 1 reviews, not even a two. I personally am a neighbor and have been here dozens of times for gifts and stuff for myself. One thing I find dangerous is that she usually has 1 or 2 gorgeous specimen plants that are an investement, but hard for me to pass up since they aren't new growth plants from a nursery, but rather established like they have been there for many years. Yes they are usually costly, but I fork it out because she has fantastic taste. Please note, she is the proprietor and only worker there. It's extremely hard to own a small business that is successful here in SF. Kudos to her for working hard to make it stick. She IS a fairly quiet person but certainly opens up if you approach with sincere questions and any other comments. We can all be like that. It doesn't mean she is hateful or ignoring you. One of my most favorite stores in SF. More of an oasis than a shop, Cove dazzles me with such earnest and well-appointed beauty. Plants, plant compositions, gifts, candles, soaps, art pieces, prints... Everything. Is. Gorgeous. I love that I can always find a sweet gift for someone. I bought a calathea two weeks ago that is thriving, (although the woman in the store for some reason told me it was sensitive and not to repot it -- I had a specific pot in mind for it and it is doing amazingly). While there are a great many wonderful plant nurseries in SF, it's somewhat hard to find decent pots - esp ones that aren't glass terrariums. Cove has a cute selection of pots - the shopkeeper mentioned that she also had to search high and low to find planters. There's a bunch of other cute stuff in there from jewelry to hand creams to books and there's also a light but well curated selection of plants and plant supplies. We got an awesome terra cotta orchid pot that will grow moss on the outside. We enjoyed the store! read more

Its selection of archival-quality framed insects (and assorted other exotic critters) is impressive and professionally put together for reasonable prices. Plus the owner will wrap anything up for you in lovely paper and ribbon. Love this shop! The selection of candles is amazing and they have tons of local, natural scents. Succulents are beautiful as well, and significantly less expensive than other stores in SF (though you will pay a premium for candles of course, but they are well worth it). I'm also impressed with the service. You aren't bugged to buy things and are free to browse at your own speed. They even managed to find me my favorite candle stashed away somewhere when I thought it had sold out. Norwegian wood- buy it and imagine your home turning into the perfect cabin in the forest. My favorite plants shop in the neighborhood. I've come here about 5 times since I moved to the Lower Haight and this shop's selection, decor, and friendliness never cease to impress me. It's a charming, cozy place filled with enchanting candles, trinkets, jewelry, stationary and the most inspiring web of hanging plants and succulent arrangements. I'd be happy enough going there just to get some inspiration and good vibes for the day but it also happens to have an interesting, unique selection of indoor plants and the owner has always been very kind and patient in explaining any plant to me. This is my favorite shop in San Francisco! I've made it a point to stop by at least once a month and will not leave without purchasing an item. I have been to both locations (Xapno and now Cove). From Jean to the decor, you could tell she spends time and puts in a lot of effort to showcase her green thumb. The selection is always incredible, and everything in the store feels cherished and selected with care and love. It is a wonderful little sanctuary in the city to find things of beauty. Let's focus on what the experience is now at Cove! Strolling by tonight, I decided to go in to check out the candle choices. There were several:) I decided on a candle that smelled so amazing that my friend (male) started pondering a purchase! The candle is called Nutmeg and makes you want to eat the candle!! The price of the candle is what you would typically pay for a quality vegetable oil candle. I was happy not to have to order my usual on line. Its nice to have a little shop in the neighborhood. Its nice to support such a wonderful little oasis:) The woman who was tending the shop tonight was very low key and pleasant. When I have more time, I will definitely visit the shop and explore the scarves and plants. read more
