In 1982 when I lived in Central Valley California - Fresno.. I purchased a Grandfather clock. I purchased it from a Woman whom her business was "The Clock Lady". Her name was Dorthy... She was a clock expert in knowledge, repair and sales... she surrounded herself with clocks. Prior to the Grandfather I purchased several varieties of clocks from Dorthy.. All antique and each was unique. Dorthy said "if you're Going to buy something.. buy something unique Or special". I listened and trusted Dorthy. I purchased Sonora clock, Bracket clock, marble French clock, mantels, wall clocks, cuckoo's, Black Forest, Atmos and several other clocks.. I never realized what I had in a Grandfather until someone asked the origin. It was beautiful but I didn't know it's history. I had moved to San Diego in 1997.. sadly Dorthy had passed... I couldn't ask her. The movement is a Hershedes.. so I googled Hershedes. Covenant clock came up and I was fascinated by their website and depth of knowledge. I called and Dan answered my call. Dan was very enlightening and very passionate about Hershedes... as I described what I had... he was an absolute wealth of knowledge and information. He was familiar with my movement and case. He was excited and I was equally intrigued. My clock I purchased from Dorthy was Sleigh case with a Hershedes movement.. Both were beautiful and breath taking. Together they were very special and unique in history.. Through my conversations with Dan I decided to have Covenant restore my Clock. Dan came to SanDiego with his crew Stephen, Philip and Peyton.. They were very kind and a pleasure to meet in person.. Dan educated me about Hershedes and their generational rich heritage and history. Since then I have been collecting Various Hershedes models. With Dan's guidance and knowledge I've attained some incredible and rare pieces. In the meantime I've made friends with the covenant Family. They treat me incredibly well ... like Family. Dan, his wife Tammy and staff delivered as promised.. truthfully they totally over delivered beyond what I could imagine.. My clock was Absolutely amazing!! It looks better then new! Attention to every element and detail is an understatement.. mechanically, construction and Aesthetically I am in absolute ahh and Heaven. I brought a beautiful but inoperable Seth Thomas 124-series mantel clock to them. During its transit to me, two of its rods snapped off and one of those was in pieces. Because of its age and the difficulty of finding exact rod replacements, I made the decision to have an electronic battery operated movement placed in the clock body. I admit I had my doubts, even after hearing what the movement would sound like that I would be happy. Well, happy is a mild description of how I felt when reunited with my beautiful clock. When I hear it, I smile. Truly my husband and I are absolutely amazed and in love with this beautiful clock. The sound is rich and resonant. I have the choice of Westminster Chimes on all four points with the striking of the hour after the full chime, an additional option to only have it chime at the hour, Ave Maria at all four points, Bim Bam, and a Bong. Wow! Wonderful! For anyone who is crushed that the beautiful clock they own will not chime without costly repairs well beyond their budget, there is a great option available, a Quad Quartz Movement, and Covenant Clock Restorations can get you set up with this. Please realize that this is not the cheesy sound of battery operated chiming clocks. Sorry to say that, but if you have heard a beautiful mechanical clock chiming you will be rightly disappointed by the sound of a battery operated chiming clock. The Quad Quart Movement uses a battery but trust me, this is not the toy clock sound of a battery chime system! Anyway, Covenant did an excellent job of installing the works and explaining how to operate it. Because I fell in love with HOW this vintage Seth Thomas Medbury mantel clock looked, Covenant took great pains to clean and restore the wood case, bringing a new luster to my dear clock And making me an even more satisfied happy customer. I have a German Cuckoo Clock, made in the Black Forest, that is fast approaching its 60th birthday. I love this clock for its many happy memories. I grew up with a cuckoo clock in my bedroom. It was an anchor to my dreams and a reassurance throughout the night. So imagine how depressed I was when my Black Forest cuckoo clock came out to cuckoo one day and dangled from its perch. That was it. Poor birdie. Covenant Clock Restorations to the rescue! Words cannot describe how wonderful and knowledgeable these experts are. They warned me from the beginning that the restoration (not merely a repair) could take up to a year. These people were so lovely, I breathed deeply and signed on. I had my clock back in 5 months! Turns out they sensitively fast-tracked me because I'm older than the clock. Not only did I receive a gorgeously restored clock in that time, but I was able to learn the incredible history that created it. This included a fascinating history of clock-making in Germany, the wood used, the carving and who did it, the interior works, even how to rehang it safely. I also learned that it was unusual in that its hands could be turned backwards without damage. If you have a clock you love that needs repair and a little TLC, this is the place to take it. I am so impressed with the outstanding customer service provided by the family-run Covenant Clock Restorations. We recently moved from the San Francisco Bay Area, and though the moving company did a stellar job in building a custom crate for our grandmother wall clock, we were unable to get it working properly in our new home. After a phone call to discuss our problem, they convinced us that though they were an hour an a half away our best course of action was to bring the clock to them. They advised us how to best transport it, and upon arrival checked it thoroughly. They were very welcoming and made us feel right at home while they did their analysis. They have some really amazing clocks on their premises. Due to the age of our clock (over 25 years old) and lack of professional maintenance (we had no idea they should be "serviced" every 5 years), it was their recommendation that since they tested the clock and it appeared to be working fine, that we not "tinker" with it further, but return home and enjoy it for as long as it continues to run -- at some future point unknown, it will stop running and at that point need to be overhauled. We were treated like family, and they didn't try to sell us a service that may or may not have been beneficial. They wouldn't even charge us for their time ... we were very fortunate to find Covenant Clock Restorations! read more

When my Grandpa Pete Betschart passed away in 1978 - when I was 10 years old - I was given this German Grandfather Clock he had built himself. It has been with me the last 40 years, in storage, 3? different houses, in a box, under my bed, in a closet. (it has been thru a lot!). With my office being completed, I felt I finally had a place where I could display it and enjoy it the way it was meant to be enjoyed. When I pulled it out to hang on the wall, the glass was broken and it no longer worked. I was crushed and felt responsible for neglecting such a treasured and precious heirloom. I brought it to Covenant Clock Restorations, a few blocks from my office. I told them the story and they researched the mechanism. They contacted a factory in Germany and felt it best to replace it with a new movement. However the movement was now obsolete. So instead of throwing away the movement, they painstakingly rebuilt the entire movement, refinished the fragile wood and replaced the broken glass. When I saw the finished clock and heard it chime on the hour, I cried. It brought back such precious memories of the clock hanging in my grandparents house. I now have it proudly displayed in my office and every 1/2 hour, I am brought back to being young and enjoying time with my grandma and grandpa. read more

I purchased an expensive cuckoo clock while visiting Switzerland and had it shipped home. The clock had a couple problems right out of the box when I received it. The cuckoo's door wouldn't shut, and the steeple was completely unattached from the roof. I called Covenant Clock Restorations and they said to bring it in anytime, I took the clock in the next day. I set the clock on the counter, they looked at it briefly, then Steve said it should only take a few minutes. He invited me to the back of the shop while he took a closer look at the clock. While Steve was working on my clock, a delightful young man told me all about the real cuckoo birds. Steve was able to fix the problems right away, the door now shuts like it should. He glued the steeple back on and even colored a tiny spot of raw wood to match the stain on the clock. He even took the time to explain how the clock works and how to take care of it. I asked him how much I owed... he said "nothing", he did this for free! He asked that I might be a return customer when the clock needed cleaning. He even carried the clock to my car. My wife and I have a grandfather clock we bought while stationed in Germany over 35 years ago. We've moved it all over the country on our various military assignments. Recently, we downsized to a smaller house. The movers assured me they new how to move clocks like this. They didn't. The clock that survived multiple moves over long distances took major damage in a move of only a few miles. I called Covenant and they agreed to look at it. The professionalism and skill of the owner and staff - all family - is amazing. They happened to have a part that needed to be replaced on hand. While his sons worked on the clock, the owner gave me valuable tips on the technical details of the clock and how to maintain it. We just inherited a majestic grandfather clock and, except for what we could glean from the 3 decades old manual, had no way to determine how to maintain and operate it properly. Fortunately, we called the professionals at Covenant Clocks. We asked if they could provide maintenance service and determine how to silence the clock's quarter-hour chimes at night while we slept. We brought the clock in on a Saturday, and within minutes the Covenant team had identified the issue with the chimes, fully lubricated the parts that needed it, and given us a primer on the origins of the clock, what maintenance would be required and how to set everything up for proper ongoing usage. This was such a satisfying experience, and one that will ensure we return to Covenant for any future needs we may have to maintain this heirloom timepiece that is such an enchanting addition to our home. read more

We have an old German cuckoo clock that was purchased by our daughter while she was in Germany about 20 years ago. It needed a little bit of servicing and not knowing anything about cuckoo clocks we took it to Covenant this afternoon. After looking at it, the gentleman behind the counter explained to us the mechanism (apparently it was one of the better ones), a brief history of cuckoo clocks, and what we needed to to do take care of it properly. They took the clock into the workshop, fixed what was broken, oiled it, and brought it back to us about 10 minutes later. It works perfectly and they didn't charge us at all for it. He said it should work just fine for a few more years and once it does need a major overhaul, what it could cost. We will take it back when the time comes and would recommend them to anyone who needs a clock serviced. read more

I never thought there was any hope. Looking through my attic, I found a clock my parents owned. It was broken into many pieces. I remember it from a photograph of me from the 1960s. The first clock shop I took it into said that it was totaled and could not be fixed. I felt that they could not discern how much this meant to me. I had the best experience today with Steve and staff! I have a Cuckoo Clock I purchased at a garage sale that had stopped working. I went online to try and fix it myself, but was intimated by my lack of knowledge and frustrated I would damage my favorite piece. If you want a cheap, fast repair for an inexpensive clock, these aren't the folks to go to. However, if you have a prized heirloom that needs knowledgeable and careful restoration, and understand that quality work takes time, I'd highly recommend these folks. I've brought two different clocks in to them, and both times, they helped me out at the counter, but explained that restoration probably wasn't financially justified. However, they were able to point me in the right direction to effect the necessary repairs myself. When I have a clock that meets the above criteria, I will absolutely not hesitate to bring it to them. read more

I brought in my cuckoo clock after we started having issues with the music box and cuckoo. I fully expected for it to be an expensive repair but they generously repaired it on the spot and for free. They were a delight to talk with while I waited and provided info on the clock and an idea of what next steps could be if they hadn't been able to fix it with the goal to not get to that point. They also let me know proper operation and warned me about potential future issues. Took it into Covenant Clock Restoration and the gentleman there had his crew oil and check it out while I was there, and he educated me on the care and the value of my clock. I have a coo coo clock that had smoke damage and hadn't run for several years. I called Covenant and they said to bring it by as they thought they could help me. When I showed up, they took it to the back and began checking it out. Soon they called me back, showed me the clock running, and gave me some tips on how to care for the clock. I brought the clock in today to have a minor adjustment made. Minor to them - inscrutable to me. My brother sent me this simple little cuckoo clock when he was stationed overseas - so it has tremendous emotional value to me. We took our beloved clock to Covenant to see about getting it cleaned. Unfortunately, since it hasn't been cleaned in 23 years, Dan and Steve suggested oiling it, which gave it new life!
