Very cool shop, when I walked in I couldn't believe I was in a strip mall. The design is high end and elegant. I brought in 4 watches, three needed batteries and one needed the band fixed. Larry was cool and professional. The service was prompt and good. The only issue I saw was prices are not clearly posted or on a list for review. They inspect each watch and then decide the price of the repair or battery. While waiting I did notice that the prices given were uniform for most watch batteries. Between $25 t0 $30. Since I own over 10 watches, it's important to know prices are not being made up onsite. I would give Larry another go, all the watches were fixed perfectly. read more

Had done business with him before and left satisfied. Had recently bought an old mantle clock that had started running faster than usual. Came in for a fix and was told it needed a thorough cleaning. As I had bought it from a reputable seller I questioned whether that was indeed the reason as it had been working fine up until recently. He quoted me a price of $450.00 to clean it. I am so glad I found Larrys Watch Repair close to where I live! Larry is a highly skilled, professional watch repair man. I took my older Tag Heuer watch which stopped working for a year now. A watch repair store I took it to in the past was unable to fix it. Larry was able to fix my watch! It took a few tries but he ultimately determined why my watch stopped working and fixed it. We inherited a grandfather and a grandmother clock from our moms. After many years, and a variety of 'issues' with each clock, we knew we needed to get them at least cleaned, but since we live in Hood River, that was going to be a challenge (the average person can't just disassemble a clock!), so we heard about Larry and gave him a call. He and his wife came out to get them, especially since there were two clocks, it was worth his time.... After just 2 weeks, he called to say one of them was ready. One? He explained that the older one needed some parts.... so they came out to deliver (and reassemble) the clock. I asked about the other clock, but again, he was still searching for a wheel (apparently the clock is a special clock and that wheel is no longer available from any of his resources..... but at least it had been cleaned, so I asked him to bring it anyway. They are a delightful couple and I would HIGHLY recommend Larry. He is still determined to try to find me that wheel and even said he might know someone that could make another one for me... so we'll see.... but at least now we have both clocks back and they are RUNNING again AND GONGING when they're supposed to too! He changed a watch battery in under 20 minutes and for a very reasonable price. Larry operates out of a Plexiglass-walled kiosk located in a corner of the jewelry department of the Fred Meyer supermarket at Gateway in northeast Portland. So if the Gateway Fred Meyer is convenient for you, don't hesitate to stop by during his regular operating hours. You could easily pass the time by doing your grocery shopping while he works on your watch or clock. Larry is a competant watch and clock repair man. I am very happy so far with his service on my mariners ship's bell strike clock. He is reasonable and honest. He beat another clock repair man in Independence by half the cost, but with no guarantee. The only reason I rated him a four and not a five star rating is his compromised crimeridden location. He is inside a Fred Meyer store on NE 102nd Ave. in Portland, Gateway district. It is best to go there in daytime only and get the store security to walk you out. I've been planning to build a clock on my wall, and knowing NOTHING about how to do that I had been looking for a place like this- leaving the grocery store I saw it across the street & thought "hmmm.... let's check it out". Absolutely ruined my watch. Took my watch in for band repair, was told that it needed a new clasp. Replacement was ordered. I check back and am informed that it could take up to a month for the part to arrive. Was offered an alternative band. I agreed to the alternative. I was under the impression that if the new band needed special parts, they would be salvaged from the old band. When the watch was returned, not only was the band entirely different, the curved end links were not put on, leaving horrendous gaps. The watch in question is a Yacht-Master II style with the Oyster bracelet. What I got in return was a Jubilee type bracelet. I probably would not have had any issues, had the Oyster curved end links been used from the original bracelet. Too add insult to injury, I attempted to remove the watch once I returned home to find one of the pins had backed out. I pushed it back into place, just to find that I needed to pry the clasp open to get it off. Once I finally removed the watch, other pins began falling out. No, not backing out, falling out. I managed to get one put back in place, but no luck on the other. As soon as I can get time off of work and can return, I will attempt to get them to put it together the way I want, or I order the parts that I need; a proper Oyster bracelet, and replace it myself. Edit: 05/15/24 Okay, I have to give them credit. I went in and talked with the owner and got my issue resolved. Scavenged parts from the original bracelet and the new one, spliced them all together, and now my Yacht-Master II looks as it should. I am so pleased with Larry's service! I took my husband's watch in after it had been to another watch repair but was still not keeping time. He immediately wondered if it needed a rechargeable battery rather than a standard one. I left it and 20 min later he called that it was fixed. The previous place had installed a traditional battery. Larry also explained that to keep it charged, we only had to put it in the light once a month. Problem solved! He is very friendly and clearly knowledgeable.
