Since time was an issue, they were able to start the job within the week.The crew came and got to work immediately. They covered the floors so that nothing got on my light carpeting.They kept the work area clean and when they left, it may have been cleaner than when they started. I usually don't really understand why people leave poor reviews and low ratings over preliminary interactions or inability to use a service, but here I am anyway, about to leave a review and low rating for a service that was never performed. This company advertises that they do foundation work, but when I asked for an estimate to fix a cracked foundation, I was ultimately told that they can't help me because it's not the kind of concrete they deal with. Ok, fine, it is what it is. I asked if he knew of a company that could help because I'm having a hard time finding someone (this was my third attempt at contacting a company that says they do foundation repair only to be told they were unable to do my foundation repair, because it's not really what they do). My experience with this company was great.. Bob, the owner was amazing. I was having some work done on my house and came across a chimney leak. The first guy I called wanted to install a brand new chimney for thousands of dollars. Time was an issue for me....Bob came out evaluated the situation and fixed it without replacing the chimney and was extremely reasonable. Bob even went above and beyond by coming back a few days later to replace wood that my contractor said he couldn't do... Bob is very courteous, knowledgeable, and professional! Bob & Eugene did a great job today. I was quoted the top and low end of the range for installing a chimney liner, cap and other things. Bob is super honest, did the liner for the minimum quoted, told me I didn't need the $500 of flashing my home inspector said I did. He suggested doing a coating on my cinderblock stack because it was clearly not finished correctly. All in all, Cowans was easier to work with, cheaper and more in tune with a homeowner's needs than Davis Brothers. Call Bob! read more

Very easy to deal with-they came out rather quickly to give estimate. They completed several repairs on chimney including waterproofing, crown repair and flashing repair. In addition, they inspected chimney/fireplace and provided honest estimate for chimney liner and gas logs. Liner and gas logs were installed quickly. What he did: - Swept fireplace/chimney - Swept wood burning oven - Performed a complete inspection of both chimney and oven - Re-sealed bricks on chimney Mr Cowan was PHENOMENAL. Sure, it wasn't cheap, but I also had a lot of work done to a house that I just bought last month. I know if I hired one of those cheapo $45 guys I would have been ripped off with several additional charges, not to mention subpar work. I wanted an actual mason to clean my chimney, not some random air duct guy. The service was spectacular, and Mr. Cowan only performed services that I needed, nothing optional or frivolous. From the get-go, I could tell that he knew that he was doing. He was able to tell instantly that my fireplace/oven wasn't used in a very long time (which was true, as the previous owners of the house had not used it once in the 12 years that they lived there). He was available to service my chimneys the very next day! I didn't have all the cash up front since my chimney needed re-sealing (I didn't know until he checked), and he allowed me to mail the balance to him -- because he trusts his customers! The best part of my experience was that he gave me a brief world history on the bricks in my fireplace. The bricks were shipped from England 300 years ago when buildings were being knocked down in Europe, and these bricks basically built Philadelphia and South Jersey as we know it today. This means that my fireplace bricks can be from as far back as the 1600s! Some of the bricks were older than others, and some had paint on them that was from before the Revolutionary War. He pointed these bricks out to me, along with the ones that were very old such as the salmon bricks. I thought this was so cool that my fireplace/oven were basically antiques. I would absolutely use him again in a heartbeat. This was my first experience with him, and it definitely won't be my last.
