I've visited Roswell a few times and everybody told me I had to try Cowboy Café. First two visits, the line was way too long so I didn't wait (about a 60 min wait to be seated). On my most recent trip we finally got to go and give it a try. I was pleasantly pleased. The food might be a little overrated, but that's what happens when a place is good -- people hype it up and the bar gets set so high it's hard to hit. Nothing negative to say about the food though, and the servers were wonderful. I had the cheeseburger with fire roasted green chilies and it was really good. Onion rings were definitely homemade and delicious. The restaurant was clean, had a great atmosphere, and a lot of flair to look at while you're there. All in all, I can see why people like this place.

Delicious diner food in a cowboy themed restaurant! The coffee was perfect! The huevos rancheros hit the spot! Green chili sauce had heat and made the dish. The also have homemade pies and mugs and sauce to bring home. Great cafe!

The Cowboy Cafe is located a little ways from the main part of Roswell, but still not too far. It is unique in its astetics. The bar stools have seat cushions that look like part of a saddle. There is a mini stagecoach in front as well. The inside tables are booths. There is plenty of gravel parking with a paved handicap space. The bathroom is gender neutral with unique memorabilia. The service was fast. The server stopped several times during our meal to check on our wants... outstanding! The menu is decent. The prices are reasonable. I ordered hamburger steak with onions. It came with a small house salad, mashed potatoes, corn, and cornbread. The meal was delicious. They also have cake and pie as well. So, if you come to Roswell to see the aliens, be sure to stop by the Comboy Cafe. You just might enjoy yourself.

Sometimes ya just was great food, service and good feelings about what you eat and where you find yourself. DO NOT PASS BY HERE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR breakfast or lunch. We were looking for lunch at 1pm and found this place. I had not read the reviews before we went. Sometimes ya just don't want fancy food, but still want it to be good. The food isn't just good - we had the best lunch in over 2000 miles and 10 days of traveling and eating out. From Estes Park Colorado to Roswell NM- hands up THIS IS THE PLACE. Big breakfasts and good family Style cooking. We had the Hamburger Steak and Onion. And the Chicken Fried Chicken. Both came with mashed potatoes, vegetable of the day, green chili cornbread and side salad. Good stuff! They close at 2 and we arrived at 1. Every bite we were saying how perfect it was after all the foo-foo food we had been eating. We NEEDED this meal to make it back to Texas and home. The staff was superior and the place is cute as it can be. Love it and will stop here again and again.

This is a cute dive off the main road in Roswell. It's old west decor is fun and unique. The dining room is small and people are willing to wait to eat here. The servers are friendly and attentive. I had the eggs and French toast. The French toast was great made with cinnamon bread. The syrup was hot and delicious! My hubby had the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were very good and the sausage tasted homemade. Very good! My son had the t bone breakfast with grits. He devoured it. Very flavorful. We also bought some of the Black Betty BBQ sauce. It's the best!!! Locally made and delicious.

Great place for breakfast before hitting the Aliens on Main Street. While green chile is usually my favorite in New Mexico cuisine, the red chile (Revolver) was far superior to the green...extremely delicious on the Spanish Omelette (which also has green chiles inside. The tortillas tasted like they came our of a bag. Otherwise, the food tasted clean and fresh. The Cowboy Cafe is small, so be prepared to wait to get a table and it may take awhile to get food after ordering. read more

Went here for breakfast while staying in Roswell and was very pleasantly surprised. It is a smaller business than any chain places so it feels more friendly and personal. Sloane was our waitress, very funny, very nice( which in this day and age is a rarity ) Food was delicious and prices were normal for a smaller business. read more

Every portion is better then your head. And they aren't just big but tasty too. The desserts are always fresh and amazing. The cornbread is some of the best in town. If you ever need to feel full, this is the place. read more

My dad and I spent the night in Roswell and stopped here for breakfast before we left. We both had the Hungry Cowboy Breakfast and it was labeled 17.95 on the menu. We also had coffee. While ordering she gave us two choices of gravy and two choices of bacon. We got our food and it was really good. Then we get our bill and we were charged extra for the gravy and the bacon not being told it was extra and our final bill was $50 then charged a convenience fee for running my card. The food was really good but we thought it was way over priced. read more

A really great place to get some home-style country food and excellent pies! The only downside to this place is the size! Not very much space for large groups or families but they do there best to accommodate you. My personal favorite is the hamburger steak with onions. It reminds me of my childhood and my mother's cooking. They also have an awesome challenge burger called the cowboss which i have not attempted yet but looks great! read more

Excellent! I always get the chicken, biscuit and "taters" so much Good food for little money. I literally have to take home leftovers whenever I eat here...and the leftovers are just as good the next day! Super nice servers too. You will not be sorry you tried this place. read more

This is the kinda place where it's family run and owned and they really treat all their guests like family. Our server was simply amazing and super on top of things. I think what I really liked best about this place was that it really had a cowboy western feel. The patriarch, (I think) in addition to wearing a cowboy hat, was going around talking to his patrons, something you don't see very often in small locally owned restaurants. I think one thing that stuck out about my meal was the biscuit. Sweet baby Jesus, that was a biscuit to remember. It was huge, fluffy, and so good, you didn't need gravy or anything on it. If you're passing though Roswell and need breakfast, this is your place! read more

So glad I chose to go here for breakfast. Great friendly local place. Waitress (Sloane) was very personable. I sat at the bar and talked to some great local people who have me a list of places to see and go eat. Food and coffee was good. After a rough first part of the day, my husband and I were wanting to get something good to eat. We knew we could count on Cowboy Cafe for just that but it was 10 minutes until closing time. Normally the other restaurants in town would make their displeasure known. Were we ever surprised at the cheerful welcome we received when we walked in. My husband even asked if it was okay because we didn't want to inconvenience anyone. The waitress let us know it was absolutely ok. This was like a breath of fresh air. Since moving to NM, I've struggled finding good customer service. Seems like Cowboy Cafe makes it their priority....and of course good food. read more

The steak was over cooked, but the hashbrowns were good. My daughter country fried steak was very dry and chewy. So many flies and it was gross. All over the condiment especially on the ketchup bottle left in the table. No sure if because my family and I are Hispanic services wasn't very good. Everyone around us got asked several time if they need anything or if they were okay.. read more

Mostly this is standard breakfast and lunch offerings, except for the cheeseburger salad. It was definitely unique and well worth a try. This is a locals type of place and a nice place to get a feel for the town. read more

We were driving from Carlsbad NM to Flagstaff and stopped for breakfast. We pulled up and took a look and were convinced that the place was out of business. As we headed down the street we saw an open sign and went around the block to try the door. My wife was pretty sure we were going to get sick from the looks of the outside and no cars in the gravel parking lot. The door swings open and suddenly I have a happy wife. The place has charm and the service is friendly. I had the Huevos Rancheros and I must say I was blown away. Best I have had. Add to that the hashbrowns were just the right crispyness. The pinto beans were also just perfect. read more

Everything I read about this place was true! Cozy and charming, a great example of New Mexican hospitality. The food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time without sacrificing flavor. Drove through Roswell this morning and found this gem. from the get go I liked the feel of this place. Walking in the staff are welcoming and eager to please. The decor is what you would expect with a name like Cowboy Cafe. I had the biscuits and gravy and on the recommendation of our waitress had the sausage added for a bit of spice and she was spot on! What a great meal I will make it a point to stop in here when I am in town. The only issue and reason I did not leave a fifth star was the place is much smaller than the parking lot appears. Get there early if you want a seat we had lucked out and walked in just before a rush and were able to be seated straight away otherwise we would of had to wait. Well worth the wait though. read more

Happen to pass thru Roswell, stayed overnight and was looking for breakfast before a trip to the UFO Museum then back on the road. I wanted to go to one of local hangouts and this one fits that. So I had the "Alien Omelette." It was spicy but good. I would recommend this unique restaurant. Good friendly service too! read more

This is a great little dinner! We had a wonderful time and the breakfast is hardy and homemade! It's not a light breakfast! Portion sizes were large. They also have green chili products for sale. The only down side was that it wasn't very children friendly, but just space wise since it is a smaller restaurant. read more

Just went here while passing through Roswell. We stood there for almost 10 minutes and were not even greeted or acknowledged. The people who came in before and after us were greeted and seated immediately. I made eye contact with the seating hostess and waitress several times but they still did not acknowledge us. We have no idea why, but I would recommend against going here due to the terrible service. I can't speak as to how the food is since we did not stay. But take your business elsewhere if you are passing through town. read more

The Cowboy Cafe was recently acquired by a young outgoing entrprenuer. He has cleaned up and renovated the cafe, but kept the charm the locals and travelers have come to enjoy.

Meet the Business Owner: Madux H.

Madux Hobbs understands the importance of community. He recently held a fundraiser for the Chaves County 4-H Shooting Sports Clubs. Raising strong and healthy children, educating them well and preparing them to be the next generation running this community is important. The Hobbs family have been an active and integral part of Roswell for decades. Coming from a strong and loving family has given Madux a healthy and clear focus on what it means to build a good community.

Pulled over to get a coffee before long shift. Super cute and clean. Young girl at counter was very friendly and nice when I took a little extra time trying to figure out what I wanted. On the large board behind the counter was the special drinks and food for the month of February. I decided to get a chocolate cherry iced latte with white chocolate instead of milk or dark. I also got the white chocolate strawberry scone. The scone came warmed , it was so good I should have gotten 2 of them. My iced drink was good, even with swapping out of white chocolate it was tasty but a bit on the sweet side. They also have milk alternatives, I got oatmilk. I like that they use paper cups to help with the over use of plastic cups and not a lot of places to recycle them.

The food and drink held up just as well. Coffee and teas were solid, with a local tea vendor on site doing samples and selling loose-leaf blends, which was such a great touch. I had a vegan hummus salad that was genuinely good, plus some food bites, while my husband loved his burrito. I also stumbled upon handmade origami earrings (cranes and roses!) that I was obsessed with, along with books, swag, and random treasures--at one point I picked up a Japanese art book I would've bought instantly if it had been for sale. And just when you think you've seen it all, the space keeps going: a wine lounge in the back, a roasting operation, more rooms to explore. Huge credit to the staff--only a handful of employees holding down a nonstop crowd, all with great energy. If you're passing through New Mexico, even if Roswell is slightly out of the way, Stellar Coffee is absolutely worth the stop. It adds charm but I think charm that is not backed up with good food is like a band-aid over a bleeding wound.

Both the lentil soup and the tabouleh salad were among the best I have ever had. The baba ganoush, the falafels and the dolmas (stuffed grape leaves) were all three among the best I have ever had. Often fried falafels are coarse and dry but these were moist, tender and flavorful. The tahini dipping sauce was excellent as well. My wife's combination kafta (chicken and beef) came with the supreme rice which was also excellent. The ambience was very clean and modern as was the music fascinating and lively. Across the board, everything was excellent. We chatted a good bit with one of the owners who told us that all the cuisine represented generations of family recipes. But for the little town of Roswell, this is pretty impressive cuisine and an excellent choice for dinner!

Housed in an historic old building that has been crafted into a really cool visual background to the scent of hearty barbecue cooking that reels you in. The best is yet to come as you enter and are greeted by super friendly staff, or if you are lucky enough to catch the owner, Tony, working at the grill. And then there is the barbecue...absolutely delicious!! Great selection, but not overwhelming, so that you can quickly get to the best part - eating. They also have a great bar, that is very well stocked, especially with my favorite barbecue accompaniment, whiskey. We left with huge smiles on our faces - great food, great folks, and just a great find that we hope to be back to soon.

Ok so we will admit we came to Roswell for the alien stuff! But we are foodies too so we stopped here and had the chicken fried bacon, coffee, and OJ!! Omg what can I say besides wow! I've always ordered chicken fried steak but when you can have chicken fried bacon?? Really !!?? Ahh I could eat bacon with everything. They should contact food network to be on that show that shows the extreme bacon recipes. That one bar in Boston has bacon like 50 ways! Yum I think they should keep adding bacon to everything! They make fresh food and it comes out to order nothing sits around! It'll take a while to get your food but it's worth it because it's so fresh and amazing. Make sure you stop here when you're in Roswell! Oh make sure you haven't eaten yet because you'll eat all the daily calories in one meal! read more

When we found this cafe it was packed!!! We thought for sure we would be forgotten or have to wait. We had a short waiting period and it was so worth it. We went for breakfast and biscuits and gravy reminded me of my mom's homemade biscuits and gravy. Staff are very friendly. Missy took care of us. The gentleman up front was so friendly and reminded me of my dad. My husband order the starving cowboy and he said he was happy with homemade cooking. When you travel it is nice to find a place to sit down and enjoy the friendly welcoming environment. Plus can't beat homemade cooking. When we come back to Roswell we will be back. read more

There is nobody in town that makes a steak like this cafe. I like my steak super, and everywhere I go, they overcook it. The owner came to my table to make sure I wanted it as rare as I told the waitress, and even told me the risks of eating under-cooked meat. Then he went to the kitchen and made sure the cook made it to order. I will be going back any time I want to go out for a steak! read more

Once again, Cowboy Cafe was awesome!!! We met some great folks but missed seeing the former manager, Cowboy Chuck. Cowboy Cafe was a great local spot with some down home cooking. The menu is diverse and was able to find something for everyone. The Alien Omelet (ham n cheese, green Chile smother, cheese overtop, and fried egg. The appetizer "Fried Bacon" was divine!!! Biscuit n gravy was scratch goodness and fed two of us. Like so many places, the closing time is actually 15-30 minutes before the listed closing time. I feel if you're going to do that, then make your closing time 1:30 or 1:45 so as to not waste people's time. For your planning, assume you aren't getting in after 15-30 minutes before closing. read more
