It was our first time in the area and we were recommended by many people to try Cowboy Cafe. They have a lot to choose from for breakfast and lunch. I wanted to try something different and get the elk skillet, unfortunately I did not care for it, but the staff was so accommodating they quickly got me a new order. I went with the Beef Dip and I was definitely satisfied. It was very juicy and flavorful and the onion rings were perfectly crispy. What a pleasant surprise to have found this gem. I had the Bison meatloaf which was tender and full of flavor, the side vegetables were crisp and sweet, but the star of the show was the green Chile. It was mildly spicy but not over hot, it had just the right amount of chopped pork to give it hardiness. to be this far and worth it to have such great green chili is a rarity. I recently visited the Cowboy Cafe in Sheridan and found the atmosphere to be quite nice and quaint. However, I was disappointed with the food quality. I ordered a burger and fries, expecting a homemade patty, but it turned out to be a pre-formed frozen patty that lacked flavor. Given the location in Wyoming, I had hoped for a more authentic, homemade experience. This was quite disappointing. In the plus side the staff was nice and professional, you really are doing them and the community a disservice by not using fresh items in the menu. read more

Service makes the place above the Yuppie places in Sheridan. Wide selection of food to choose from. The place has a warm feel to it as soon as you walk in. If you don't get that feeling, you need to turn around and go to the hody-tody Berkeley restaurant up the street a block. We were visiting Sheridan, Wyoming for the day and found this gem of a place on Main Street. We had the chicken fried steak with potatoes and vegetables, and it was fabulous. The waitress was exceptionally friendly and pleasant to deal with. We arrived at around 4 PM on March 18, 2024 and it was not busy at all and our wait time for the food was probably five minutes if that. The whole meal was fresh and wholesome. This is definitely a place we will remember and revisit on our next trip to Sheridan. read more

After a day of leisure in the Big Horn Mountains we stopped in Sheridan for some lunch. Cowboy cafe had good reviews so we decided to stop there. We arrived just before 2 p.m. The place was pretty busy, but most people there were finishing up lunch and on their way out. There was inside seating and outside in a patio area. The restaurant had see through plexiglass set up between tables and booths because of Covid-19, and the server wore a mask. The server was a very friendly young lady with greenish hair, I didn't get her name. She got us our drinks promptly and took our order quickly when we were ready. When our food arrived it was hot, fresh tasting, and very good. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. My daughter and I got the cowboy burger with tots and fries. My other daughter got the BLT with avocado, and my husband got the chicken sandwich with havarti cheese. Our friend got the fish and chips. We finished the meal off with slices of pie and every piece was homemade and delicious. I especially liked the chocolate pecan pie, and the German chocolate. This is a great spot to grab a meal if you're in the Sheridan area. The service was fast and friendly, the food was delicious and fresh, and the restaurant was clean. read more

Visiting from California, we searched out this place in downtown Sheridan. The prices were high and didn't come with includes sides. The Reuben was disappointing as the in house corned beef was tough. They were busy and we waited a long time for our bill. We gave the waitress our credit card along with the bill and she went away and didn't come back. We waited patiently and finally snagged her aside and asked when she was going to bring back our credit card. She said, 'Oh, I've already closed out your ticket. She didn't have a signature and she didn't have our credit card. She lost it, couldn't find it and finally said, "Oh, just cancel it" as she was storming off in a rant. Somehow her mistake suddenly became out problem. Fortunately for us, we had another credit card, but I wonder what if we hadn't had one. Lots of families only have one credit card or debit card. When the owner came over, we took our contact information but didn't seem to care much that this incident had happened. We never heard a word back from them confirming that they didn't find it. I would strongly suggest that since much of their business is from tourists, that they learn some business courtesy. read more

UPDATED REVIEW (BREAKFAST): We ended up coming back for breakfast two days in a row. We couldn't help ourselves. My husband said it was the best eggs Benedict he'd ever had; the Hollandaise was perfect. The first morning, I ordered the Mediterranean Breakfast Bowl: perfectly soft, scrambled eggs served atop a plate of those absurdly delicious cowboy potatoes, fresh spinach, mozzarella and tomatoes. It was so good that, despite the siren song of French Toast, I duplicated the order on the second day. The service was, again, perfect. Drinks are always topped off and the staff is happy and attentive without being intrusive. It's become my favorite restaurant in the area. ORIGINAL REVIEW (DINNER): The service was perfect for me: efficient, but not intrusive; not vivacious or particularly friendly, but exactly what I needed. I was tired and just get and didn't feel like making small talk anyway. The ribeye rare with cowboy potatoes came out cooked perfectly. Seasoned and seared just right, red in the middle, I couldn't have asked for better. Those Cowboy Potatoes should be called "Cowboy Crack." They were soooooo good! Crispy exterior and soft inside, the peppers complimented them perfectly and they were a great accompaniment to the steak. My husband had the chicken fried steak and said it was exceptional. Because of car trouble traveling cross-country, I ended up in Sheridan, WY, for a few days. I went to this place three times in three days, trying dinner, lunch and breakfast menus. It's rock-solid good food. It's not especially expensive, but it is targeted to people interested in quality more than price/quantity. So, a burger will cost $11-12 or so. Things I've tried and recommend: Reuben sandwich (they cure their own brisket; and the onion rings were perfect); Mushroom Jack Burger (with excellent fries); and the Lergerski's breakfast skillet (Chorizo and Polish Sausage, Mushrooms, Onions, Red Peppers & Cheddar Cheese). The pies look really good and house-made, and various in types. Very good breakfast coffee. This is one of those places that I run into now and then that make me wish I lived in that town. Also, I like that they had patio seating, so for each visit I could tether my dog with me outside. And they always brought, without my asking, a water bowl and some dog treats. Burger was good, after it came back. In our 45 years of marriage we have only sent something back maybe 3 times. The burger wasn't even rare--it was raw--totally not cooked. Unfortunate that the Main Street construction is causing problems, can't run a restaurant when they turn the water off and people probably don't take the time to walk down through the barriers. Waitress promptly took care of it but it kind of spoiled the dinner. She said the potatoes had been replaced...we had different types, both were returned cold. Place needs a major facelift as the glass panels between tables etc. seemed dirty and the plastic glasses, on the table, to serve yourself water in were stacked wet, which is less than inviting. read more

The food was great. Flavor was perfect and made up for the fact that it was room temp. We ordered online as we have a sick child at home and didn't have the option of taking him out to eat with us. I arrived 5 minutes before pick up time and told the waitress who had talked to me I was there for a pick up order. In the middle of telling her my name she said "oh okay I'll look into it, I'll look into it" showing that she was clearly very flustered and not at all prepared to take in my name. So I sit and wait. I notice a bag that had just come out after my arrival. Thinking that she had already taken my information there was no possible way it was mine. After 35 minutes of sitting there a younger server/busser had asked me what I needed after completely ignoring me for the entirety of my time there. Then we found out that the bagged order sitting out was mine. I requested a remake and was told "well you should have told us" (I did) and the women who had asked me earlier was face down observing another order saying "I'm working on this I just can't think about anything else right now" ...if the food hadn't had spoken for their quality I would completely write this place off. Hopefully eating there in person when we are able will redeem them so I can give a better review. Just be warned that if you mobile order you have to be on them to make sure they are giving you the order when it is ready. Don't be the nice guy thinking they are being aware for you. read more

I have to say right up front that our food was very good. Visited with my wife while traveling through. We each had a salad for our lunch. I had the Grilled Chicken which was very good, start to finish. Her salad was just as good, I recommend the Blood Orange salad dressing. Service was okay. I could tell they were running around and doing their best, but it was obvious they were short staffed for the business. One issue I have. For the love of God, please invest some money into the restrooms. These were nothing short of disgusting. I am mildly surprised the health department does not push this issue. They are very dilapidated, dirty and unsafe. Really inexcusable in this day and age. If you can over look that, or just not use them at all, you will feel much better about your visit. read more

Amazing food!!! Incredible service. Wonderful music. This place has everything - an unsuspecting little side show on the main drag of Sheridan, WY. Johnny Cash welcomed us and full stomachs bid us good bye. We had a lovely waitress right from the start, who was friendly and gave us good suggestions for the menu. The other patrons were a few charming old cowboy men, and the coffee was strong and hot. I had the chicken fried steak (as big as my head!) with cowboy potatoes and veggies. My husband had the bbq'd ribs with the Jack Daniel sauce! It was rich and moist and fell off the bone the minute you picked it up! They paired perfectly with the heavy savory Bloody Mary, filled with black pepper and celery. We also had the moose drops for an app (little fried tater tots filled with cheese!! Heaven in every bite ). Overall, a wonderful, quiet little stop in, filled with a pleasant atmosphere and perfect smells. I would KILL to be able to be a regular at this sweet little spot. read more

Great little cafe to stop in and grab a bite... maybe. Pretty good salad, I had the Cran-Brie without the brie, bc they had none. The waitress said she had never seen any on any of their cran-brie salads. Go figure. With a 'little' balsamic dressing on the side, because it was the last of that of that too. Hubs had the spicy hamburger steak and said it was 'fine'. Read into that, what you will. I think he would have enjoyed it more if they weren't on the last bit of ketchup as well, I kid you not! Our waitress had to get him some from a neighboring table and was told by the patron, as she reached out to grab the bottle, 'Hold on, Let me get a couple more squeezes, then you can have it'. The Cowboy cafe is known for their pies and we aimed to finish on a high note and split a blueberry almond. Give the devil his due, it was very good. We ordered without ice cream and of course enjoyed eating around the huge dollop that was served on top of it. Obviously they weren't out of that. After 700 miles on the road we were too tired to care quite frankly and our waitress was as sweet and comical as she could be, so I'm still giving this place 4 stars against my better judgment. Mind you if we had eaten inside, (think 50's style diner ambience) instead of on the patio, it would definitely have dropped a couple of those lovely, shiny, stars. read more
