Great food. But they absolutely will get the drinks wrong and tell you they're not wrong. I ordered an old fashioned and a manhattan, both wrong. Old fashioned: bright red with a cherry and super sweet Manhattan: half full glass with just bourbon and a cherry. After asking for the old fashioned I pointed out it wasn't made correct and the manager without even looking at the drink said it was correct. I'd over heard from a waitress they were completely out of whiskey so there's now way they could have even made the old fashion to begin with. I saw a couple of people complain about this restaurant, but trust me, they are probably people who will complain about anything. Wow, my experience was amazing. In fact, I only spent two nights in Dodge City, and ate there both nights. Friendly staff, the food was good, and I enjoyed both visits. Food and service was great. All 4 entrees were spot on. Wait staff was very attentive.

Upon entering I really liked the vibes. It was clean, the decor got my attention, and the wait person came quickly. After traveling all day that was nice. My old fashioned was very well made. My filet mignon steak was good but not great because I prefer medium rare but it was cooked medium (hence my rating). I kept it because it was still tender. However, my mixed vegetables were absolute perfection--tender crisp with a wee bit of butter. My muffin was the bomb, too. My spouse got the Horse Thief. It was a huge burger with chili, French fried jalapeños, and he chose French fries for his side. He loved it! Oh my gosh, I tasted the chili and fries ... definitely recommend, too. Sorry I forgot to take photos of the food. Overall, a good experience and would go back if we are in Dodge again. read more

Unless one happens to be a vegetarian or vegan, a dinner featuring beef (I.e. steak) should be mandatory when visiting in a city that was (and still is) an important center of our nation's meat supply. When I fired up my trusty Yelp App I was surprised that the options for a good steak dinner in Dodge City were limited (maybe all the best meat is shipped off to NYC?). Anyway, we decided that the Cowboy Capital Grille looked promising so off we went. I started off with a cocktail (Bee's Knee's) featuring gin from the Boot Hill Distillery. Even though a garnish listed on the menu was omitted or forgotten, the drink was tasty, and, in my opinion, the best item of the night. For my entree I went with the K. C. Strip Steak with mashed potatoes and the vegetable "du jour." The steak was fine, properly seasoned and cooked to medium rare -- but still rather ordinary, as were the sides. All in all, our experience at the Cowboy Capital Grille proved to be a satisfactory evening for a couple of old college buddies on a cross country road trip, even though the food and service were average at best. read more

Walked in 9p. Friday night, no one approached us to seat us. NO welcome shout out from the bartender,, no Happy Vibes. We saw one miserable cowboy hunched over a mediocre mess on his plate, another small party across the room .. no staff member at all. We waited a minute or two, surveyed the lack of love, and left. Waited over 45 minutes for a meal that did not come out completely, husband had to wait an additional 5 minutes for his ribs, and that's after waiting 10 minutes for anyone to make it to the table then an additional 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Thursday evening date night. They sat us in the farthest corner. The waitress to our drink order at the same time as appetizer and dinner order. One of our appetizers came out cold. We told the waitress immediately that it was cold. She apologized but didn't do anything to fix it. A $180 ticket and we were served in styrofoam containers. And when they brought the ticket there was no consideration for the cold appetizer. The manager was requested and insisted that she was "sorry" but nothing could be done. Inside an old textile factory from the late old west period - this place has character. It is across the street from the Boot Hill Museum. I had the Capital Burger. It has burn ends and a roasted jalapeño pepper. Absolutely amazing. I'm so glad the young lady who was waiting on me recommended it, as it was not on the lunch menu. A gem! read more

We came in about 2 on a Tuesday so not many customers. We're seated right away got drinks quickly. I ordered the Gunslinger burger cooked perfect with pepper Jack cheese, jalapeño, bacon and it had lettuce tomato onion and pickles on the side. Wooo! I'm getting all warm from the great spice. Poor service! I visited here 10 years ago and the experience was amazing. I was so excited to visit again based on previous experience. It was busy. We also found out it was Prom. They had 1 bartender for the entire restaurant. And like I said it was very very busy. Since it was Prom I'd think they would have planned for extra staff. After a long wait our order was taken. We were sitting at the bar. Then after another long wait the bartender asked my husband if he'd like to order something else because they were out of hamburgers. So he ordered a steak. Bartender told him she'd tell them to cook it right away. After another long wait she said it would be a very long time as his ticket was in the back of all the others. Guess she has no pull and promises things she can't deliver. He asked for another appetizer for a meal. We also watched as three other people complained over tickets and service . Very lack luster service. I waited at the front counter for nearly 7 minutes to be seated. Several wait staff saw me waiting and finally hollered for the hostess. My waitress wasn't in much hurry either .... as I looked around at the mostly empty restaurant. I ordered a chicken fried steak, baked potato, mixed veggies and iced tea. The chicken fried steak was well seasoned and cooked just right. The baked potato was perfect. The mixed veggies....served in a styrofoam cup should have just been tossed. I ordered skillet cornbread which came as a muffin and roasted sweet corn which was watery corn in a foam cup. The baked potato was good as was the chili. Had the Capital burger which is billed as "Cheddar Cheeseburger topped with our scratch smoked burnt ends and finished off with a bacon/cheese wrapped jalapeno".. I will say it was very good but I'm not sure that it's actually burnt ends. Still some tasty BBQ though. Jalapeño + cheese + bacon is always a winner and the sauce that's on the burger was delicious! Ordered some wings and a beer before my KC strip. Food was slow coming out despite not being busy. Overcooked and served cold wings ($12)with something that resembled blue cheese dressing. Ordered the steak ($33)medium and it was served well done. Veggies were boiled, tasteless, and served in a styrofoam cup. ((If you prefer a side salad it's $9.50). Explained to waitress it was well done (overcooked), she looked at it, got a plate and took it to kitchen. She returned shortly and said that it had been cooked properly. She said that due to the lighting it looked overcooked but in good light it was "red". It was dry and grey throughout. I decided to cut losses and leave. I asked to speak to manager, who was kind enough to take the steak off the bill. She was also kind enough to charge me $3 for the veggies, and explained they were "homemade". There was also honey with a hot roll. The food was a B grade but the service was A++. The waitress makes sure your cup is always full and everything's going good. This place lacks pride. Such potential for a great restaurant, but just was not up to par. Walk in and carpets are dirty, table is sticky, which don't think is dirty so much as the varnish on table top was never sealed so just feels like yuck. Our food was okay, but three of us ordered sweet potato fries. Generous portions, but totally cold. Drinks had to be requested back at the bar again, when they came out two were awful. We did get these taken off our bill, which we appreciated. I just think this venue has so much potential, especially location and building, but isn't being looked after. We had to send our steak back because medium rare was well done. The second steak was well done and cool. The potatoes were dry and cold.
