Pulcinella Wood-Fired Pizza & Catering - Charcuterie Boards

    Pulcinella Wood-Fired Pizza & Catering

I hired Pulcinella for my wedding, approx one year prior to the actual event date and while I…read moreappreciate the initial effort to site check my property for compatibility, the communication and satisfaction ended there. I had tried to get in touch with Kym regarding the pizza menu and certain special requests. After repeated emails and phone calls, plus an extra Yelp inquiry to nudge her, I finally got a response. My planner also reached out several weeks before the wedding with no success. This was a recurring issue. I understand wedding season is busy but my planner and myself were not contacted until 6-7 days prior to my wedding. There were other logistical things to figure out and the communication fell absolutely short. I also requested in multiple emails that I would like to purchase extra cheeseboards/grazing boards to have a more elaborate spread. This was never acknowledged so I had assumed I would be billed later or extra charges on my invoice would cover the request. Nope- they ran out of food incredibly early for my cocktail hour and did not even clear the area. At the actual event, I had 60 people and purchased food for 68 to account for vendors etc. There were 3 small pizza trays on a table and they were being eaten by a single table at a time. Some people did not receive food or waited so long they just gave up and ate meatballs and salad. I acknowledge that the DJ called guests too quickly. Not the catering team's fault. But even when he slowed down and people were fine waiting, it was still an abnormally long wait. There could have been a second table or more pizza trays or something. 3, 10-11" pizzas to be split amongst a table of ten is not reasonable. The slices are thin and people started taking bigger portions of sides cuz there wasn't enough pizza in time. I understand that there was an issue with where the "kitchen" was set up, versus where the food table was located (a 200 ft walk), but there was extra staff to assist. Also- this issue could have been solved much earlier and planned better IF THERE WAS COMMUNICATION. So disappointed. When people actually did get food, they said the pizza was good but I've had good pizza elsewhere and that's where I'll be going for it. The star is for the meatballs which is all I ate as the bride. I was one of the people that gave up on pizza since it took so long. My husband said it was good but he also only got a single piece. Bummer.

I cannot recommend Island View Catering enough. Buckle up, there's a lot I want to say…read more We had a Sept 2020 wedding originally, so we were part of the postponement crew. We postponed one year so we got married in Sept 2021. I had to move all my vendors, which I did so successfully. Then, due to some unfortunate circumstances, my original caterer cancelled on us about 4 months prior to the wedding. I was frantic as this was a very competitive year due to all the postponements. I started reaching out to anyone and everyone and to my surprise, I still had a lot of options. I got on the phone with Avrey and he was the first person that really put my mind at ease and made it clear that he could and would do his best to mostly match the menu I had already created and work with me on budget that I already had. He was such a fabulous person to talk to and work with; I just felt really at ease and like my opinions and needs were being taken care of. I'm also in the service business, and I admired the way he was treating me as a potential client. I ended up signing with them and the proposal process was very clear, professional, and smooth. Then he met my wedding planner, and she also thoroughly enjoyed working with Avrey and his team, and that was impressive to me. Then comes the wedding day - holy crap - I had SO MANY people come up to me and tell me not only that the food was absolutely phenomenal (we had a taco bar and delicious apps), but that anyone who ran into one of the catering team members was so impressed by them. I had brought my own bartender, a friend of the family, and she also had nothing but great things to say about the catering team. I later found out that we ran out of margaritas that we had premade, and Avrey said great we'll make more. I am still not even aware of what ingredients we had and didn't have, but somehow they made more. So to be clear, his team went back and juiced a ton of limes and made more batches of margaritas, which they were never responsible for in our contract/plans. My parents and some family friends did a lot of the take-down of the wedding. The catering staffed helped them tremendously - again, not their job. They helped box up extra wine, extra food, and even carry it to my parents car and help them load. The food was INCREDIBLE, and it was so beautifully presented; the team was top notch. Your catering team really makes the wedding flow - if they're disorganized or anything less than stellar, so are your and your guests' experiences. I had so many people tell me that this is the best wedding food they've ever had. Avrey is one of the most professional caterers I've come across - his communication is impeccable, and he just cares about doing a good job. Do yourself a favor, call Avrey and book them for whatever event you have coming up. I only wish I had more events to hire them for.

And the menu was tailored to the bride and groom's tastes. The service was attentive, happy, and always in the right place at the right time. The drinks were legit (not watered-down sugar with cheap booze). And they stayed the WHOLE TIME so if a guest wanted anything more as the night went on, they were there to make it happen... and still full of smiles at 11:30pm!! Truly a wonderful partner for any event! Thanks, Island View Catering, for helping our friends' wedding such a success!

The baked goods are really good (get the sticky bun and morning roll) and the lunch menu is varied, something for everyone. I have been a loyal (often) customer here since it opened, always consistent and fabulous!…read moreI don't know if it is still under Bob's ownership or has made a change, but today was not at all the usual! Coming from Santa Barbara, I got there 15 minutes early and waited outside in my car, then went to the door when it was just about seven. The blonde server who was there at 7 am Sunday 6/14 (i have seen her before) with the ponytail probably in her 40s was very snarky and condescending! She opened the door at literally two minutes of, saying you are two minutes early! But I will let you in this time. I said thanks, it is cold and misty out there smiling. She turned to me and snarled it is two minutes early! just say thank you! Ick Then when my breakfast was delivered, the "cappuccino" was just coffee with a little bit of floating almond milk in it- vs the fabulous ones with half an inch of foam the guy used to make (I am blanking on his name I am sorry I think it started with an R with the dark hair in the earring). He made a great cappuccino so this was surprising to have it just be coffee with a little milk. BTW the breakfast sandwich that was supposed to have scrambled eggs and arugula had an almost invisible tiny flat piece of fried egg White and three little arugula leaves and that's it - chocolate almond croissant had maybe one molecule of almond paste and one molecule of chocolate nothing like they used to be so I'm wondering if it is under new ownership?

Is this an aesthetic and beautiful lil hotel. Yes. Is it functional and actually worth the price…read more Absolutely not. I stayed here for a wedding as a guest of the bridal party and this place was not it. First off, as a woman who is getting ready for a wedding, you would hope for decent lighting in the bathrooms to do makeup. There is barely any lighting at all in any of the bathrooms. The lighting is so bad in every bathroom that every woman had to go to the grooms room to do makeup. Even the bride in her suite had to bring in huge studio lights to do her makeup. The lights in my room were so dim that at night I could keep them on it made no difference to my night vision. Also, most rooms did not offer anything beyond a face mirror in the bathroom. So if you want a full view of your outfit, you will may need to go to another room depending on which room you booked or use the mirror downstairs. Another thing, it is not clearly communicated on their website or anywhere really that most of the rooms do not have their own showers/baths. So you will be sharing a shower or bath with the rest of the rooms. So just be prepared for that. I personally did not find it charming in the least. Also it is very dark in the shower room as well. Another guest used their phone light for extra light. There is no good place to leave your towels once done, even in your own room. Also please keep in mind I paid $300 a night for this. I did not find the lack of functionality charming. I was also terribly cold at night in November. I don't know if extra blankets were available at the first desk (we ended the night late both nights) but none were available in room. Also they say there is a lot. There is no lot. It is all street parking. There is not a lot to do in the area beside what is on the main stripe, so please keep that in mind as well. I just can't recommend staying here as a guest at the price listed or what I paid at least.
