Stopped by while we were traveling up the coast. Unfortunately, we came about an hour before closing so they were pretty much wiped out of everything. I did try their lavender lemonade, which was very delicious not too sweet and not overly lavender. The food I saw on other people's plates didn't look delicious and the places are really cute. I've been here for two long weekends- went to Bob's every morning on both trips. The stand outs: 1) The Lavender Fog w/ oat milk had by multiple people on both trips-- all enjoyed it. Delicious. 2) The loaf of bread w/ bacon (lardon maybe?)-- had it with a sandwich or something and brought a loaf home the first trip. My household and I wish I had bought 5 loaves. Excellent. Sad they did not have it this visit. 3) Egg in jar and egg in frame- excellent reviews from whoever in our group ordered them. (I didnt have them but hope to next visit.) Outdoor seating/large patio is great. The not so great is totally outshined by the good, but will mention in case you're on the fence about what to get. -The sweets/baked goods in the display are maybe average, since I don't recall what I had from the first trip- but remembered not being crazy about it, so I thought I'd play it safe with 2 big cookies. Chocolate chunk cookie was good- a solid choice if you love a lot of chocolate. Pistachio shortbread cookie: I'd remove it from the menu. It tastes neither like pistachio nor shortbread (which is disappointing since I love both). It also had rosemary or something herb-y that I wasn't expecting- and wouldn't be opposed to anyway- but the cookie was a total miss. Service: super upbeat and fantastic in Feb. Tepid but fine this week. I want to give it 5 stars despite the items I didn't love. Because 5 months later- all I could think about was Lavender Fog and bacon bread loaf. But I know I wasn't crazy about 40-50% of what I tried so far. And that pistachio cookie was a pretty solid fail. I'll def be back and hope both my faves plus egg in jar are still there! read more

I will go out of my way for good bread, and this place is one of my favorites along the 101.. in the morning, they offer delicious pastries and a hearty drink menu. First time here and will make this a routine stop while traveling the 101. Bread is the star of each meal and it does come through. I found this place on social media and knew I had to try it, especially the "egg in a jar" with purple potatoes and toast soldiers (I can never resist a purple potato or a fun name). You order inside at the counter, get a number, and they bring everything out to you. We ordered the egg in a jar with toast soldiers, a baguette sandwich, a matcha latte, a cappuccino, and of course a chocolate croissant to go as a sweet treat for the road. If I could afford the calories of eating bread every day, I'd be here daily. Every bread item we tried was incredible. The croissant was buttery and flaky, exactly as it should be. The baguette sandwich had the perfect balance of crunch and softness. And the toast soldiers were the ideal size and texture for scooping up the cheesy, creamy, eggy goodness in the jar. I ordered the Eggs in a Jar and I'm still thinking about it. I never would have expected mashed potatoes to be the highlight of a breakfast dish, but this completely changed my mind. I have been a loyal (often) customer here since it opened, always consistent and fabulous! I don't know if it is still under Bob's ownership or has made a change, but today was not at all the usual! Coming from Santa Barbara, I got there 15 minutes early and waited outside in my car, then went to the door when it was just about seven. The blonde server who was there at 7 am Sunday 6/14 (i have seen her before) with the ponytail probably in her 40s was very snarky and condescending! She opened the door at literally two minutes of, saying you are two minutes early! But I will let you in this time. I said thanks, it is cold and misty out there smiling. She turned to me and snarled it is two minutes early! just say thank you! Ick Then when my breakfast was delivered, the "cappuccino" was just coffee with a little bit of floating almond milk in it- vs the fabulous ones with half an inch of foam the guy used to make (I am blanking on his name I am sorry I think it started with an R with the dark hair in the earring). He made a great cappuccino so this was surprising to have it just be coffee with a little milk. BTW the breakfast sandwich that was supposed to have scrambled eggs and arugula had an almost invisible tiny flat piece of fried egg White and three little arugula leaves and that's it - chocolate almond croissant had maybe one molecule of almond paste and one molecule of chocolate nothing like they used to be so I'm wondering if it is under new ownership? read more

I love stopping by Bob's Well Bread whenever I'm in the area. Located in the quaint town of Los Alamos. It makes me feel like I'm driving through a western movie set each time. Get here early! It can get pretty busy. There's not much room standing in line waiting to order. There is no menu posted, so come prepared by looking them up online. Paper menus are available at the cash register though. While standing in line you get an opportunity to check out all the delicious sandwiches, pastries and cookies tempting you through the display. Each made with the finest ingredients. No added preservatives here! As for the food, on my latest visit I tried the mushroom toast. The name might fool you unless you looked at the menu. Sautéed seasonal mushrooms in sherry vinegar, crème fraiche, bacon lardons and shallots cover two large house-made biscuits. Not toast as we know, but I'll take homemade biscuits any day! This is a savory, hearty meal that will leave you full and satisfied. My son tried the Egg-in-a-Jar. It's a smaller portion, so just be aware if you have a big appetite. The small jar contains purple potato purée topped with Gruyère cheese, sans the bacon lardons, poached egg, chives and crème fraiche. Served with perfectly charred toast soldiers. He thoroughly enjoyed this! On my previous visit, I tried the turkey breakfast sandwich. It sounded good, but unfortunately it wasn't to my liking. I don't know if it was the turkey or cheese, but it had a weird taste and smell. I just couldn't get passed it. Luckily, I also ordered the chocolate croissant which was delicious! This cafe is an absolute gem! We stopped there for brunch during the week and had an enjoyable experience. While we didn't feel like they were eager to take our order, they didn't have attitude...it was just not a typical friendly welcoming. We ate our food there on their patio adjacent to the cafe, which was a cute area. They have additional patio seating completely outside that also looked cute. The wait time was average, so that's a plus. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant, which came room temperature because it was made previously in the day. They did not offer to warm it up, so I'm not sure if they are able to or not, but next time I will ask because at room temperature it was less than desirable. I feel the same about their glazed pastry; not desirable at room temperature. However, my wife ordered the Egg in a Jar and we are both OBSESSED. That dish alone is what is bringing us back there. I think their freshly-served items are delectable. It was so good I'm still thinking about it a week later. This little bread bakery doubles as a light restaurant as well as a bakery. We normally have a great experience here. The cashier had told me no substitutions, but I explained I get migraines from eating eggs and potatoes in the same meal. I never order that. It's considered an allergy for me. I even offered to pay for the salad. "No no" I was told. Ok, thank you very much. My next move would have been telling them to keep the potatoes. Instead I was told I would get the salad. As you can see from my picture, no salad, potatoes on my plate. I am pretty unhappy about this. So when I asked him about this later, him being the cashier. He told me that the kitchen had told him that they were going to do the potatoes and there would be no substitute. The kitchen needs to understand one thing. If people have allergies, the kitchen needs to take it seriously. I have to carry an EpiPen with me for a reason. So do other people with allergies. The kitchen may not believe in allergies, but those of us who suffer for them certainly do. So if someone in the kitchen needs to take a review page on what happens with people who have allergies and what can happen. That was a very bad call on their end. And when the cashier may mention that all of our plates were clean, I told him that my dog could finish the potatoes for me. Gave him a sweet smile, and walked away. Today we had a blonde staff who silenced the poor reviews on bad customer service. She was all smiles, overly friendly and chatty and took time with each customer despite the long line. So glad we had a great experience! Giant chocolate croissant, strawberry danish, sausage breakfast biscuit and the infamous purple potato dish. Whole party was happy and full. I'm giving this place five stars because I think of 4.2 is a little harsh. I thought this place was pretty good. Gossip on the street is that the owner is not nice, so maybe that's why? We ordered avocado toast, and a smoked salmon/bagel platter, a latte and a cappuccino. I ordered an egg poached hard with my avocado toast, and I was pleased. They actually did it right because people have a really hard time getting that one, right. The avocado toast was not over seasoned, it was avocado, not avocado spread, and the sunflower seeds on top threw me off at first, but they were actually a nice touch in the end. The bread was extra good. It was kind of a big avocado toast. It felt more like avocado toast for two, but I crushed it. All by myself. The smoked salmon and bagel seems hard to mess up. They did a good job. I thought it was weird that they didn't toast the bagel though. The coffee was good. Not super memorable good but good. My pet peeve is ordering a cappuccino and it taste like warm milk. This tasted like coffee and foam... The way of cappuccino should taste. We also ordered a baguette for the drive home. I'd heard some buzz about this place and am so glad we went. We came on Labor Day weekend and luckily got there early enough before the line got huge. I ordered the egg/turkey sausage sandwich on the BEST English muffin I've ever had- soft, chewy, rich. The Egg in a Jar reminds me of Egg Slut but takes it up a notch. The ham and cheese croissant is also excellent; the OJ is fresh, the coffee respectable. I loved the down home community vibe, too. Bob's Well Bread is an adorable bakery in the small town of Los Alamos (you can pick up a cute postcard of the city in the bakery!). The inside of the restaurant is pretty small, but there is plenty of outdoor seating. They have a selection of baked goods and have a variety of menu options as well. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, which was absolutely delicious. I normally stay away from breakfast sausages but was intrigued when the menu indicated that their turkey sausage was made in-house. Sure enough, their house-made turkey sausage was some of the best I've ever had! The sandwich was pleasantly simple with the sausage, eggs, arugula, and provolone cheese. I also tried the huevos rancheros and, though it was good, the breakfast sandwich was really the star. I ordered a chai latte as well and didn't realize that it wouldn't have any sweetener, so there really wasn't much flavor there. Our new favorite breakfast/brunch place! Got introduced to Bob's by my neighbor 2 months ago and I haven't looked back since. They offer a great variety from delicious baked goods, to breakfast and lunch. Their coffee also beats most of the coffee shops I have been to on the Central Coast! If you expect the traditional American breakfast, this is not the place. However, if you're looking for healthy, delicious, and creative, this is it! Their food and the beautiful, shaded outdoor seatings keep us coming back. Along with their weekly specials that they change every week. We haven't had anything from here that we don't like. Even tho I'm not a breakfast food person, I come here at least 2-3 times/month. Lucky for me, they serve lunch all day long too! Los Alamos is also such a cute little town that you can take a little stroll to burn off some of the calories afterward as well! read more

What a delicious find a bit off the beaten path. Started a decade ago in an old gas station building. Quite busy on a Saturday afternoon so it's definitely not unknown. Scratch breads with all the time choices and daily specials, pastries, breakfast dishes, sandwiches/salads for lunch in or out, with salads also available. Oh, and in house made bagels and English muffins! We were on the road for the day and beyond so picking up a whole loaf wasn't in the cards for us unfortunately, but some lunch today was. The ready-made sandwiches are all made on a mini ficelle baguette. Others are available on different loaves. We chose a French Ham and a Turkey both with Emmentaler cheese. The ham was prepared with only butter and the turkey included Arugula and Dijon. We both loved the sandwiches. The bread could not have been better and the all-around freshness was outstanding. I personally don't enjoy dijon so the ham stood out for me. We added a chocolate chunk cookie that had a wonderful combination of chewy interior with a crispy edge. Wish we had bought two. If you are anywhere close looking to eat, really consider this top quality establishment. read more

I got a "Philly Cheesesteak" sandwich, came with a side salad. I liked it, but I think I will browse and order a little more frugal next time. My go to is the Gravalax platter (extra toasty) and a Cappuccino with whole milk. Seriously, one of the best Cappuccinos I have had. Their daily homemade bread is amazing. We always grab something to take home. The people serving are outstanding as well. Always friendly and checking to make sure everything went well. My family and I visited here on Sunday. The food was so good and everything was fresh! I got the ham and cheese sandwich while my wife got the avocado toast. They were both very yummy! The staff were very kind and helpful with answering questions. The shop is a but small and the line took up a good amount of area but there is lots of seating outside. Love stopping at this place any time I am traveling between the Bay Area and Santa Barbara. It was the first place I ever had a Lavender London Fog before - outstanding and completely hooked! I even went home, ordered the same tea, and tried to make it at home (not as well). I've had a number of items off their menu over the years. Loved enjoying this visit with my mom as we sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine. The town is absolutely cute and highly recommend the stop here on your road trip.
