Clandestino has grown up, literally. What began as a small operation in Frederick has moved into a…read morelarger space, and the expansion suits them well. This is Puerto Rican pitorro, also known as ron cañita, made with care and intention rather than gimmickry. Many local liquor stores now carry the brand, and it is well worth picking up a bottle, but visiting the distillery is an experience in itself. The founder is a fellow Puerto Rican born retired military member, a background I share, and like me, he has put down roots in Maryland. That story is reflected clearly in the brand's own framing, "Puerto Rican born, Maryland made." The space feels grounded and unpretentious, and that sensibility carries through to the hospitality. We arrived late on a Saturday and were still welcomed warmly, never rushed. We were taken care of by the founder's daughter, who was exceptionally kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. She guided us through a flight that included the traditional pitorro, almond, pineapple, coffee, coconut chai, and several seasonal offerings. The flavors were thoughtful and well balanced; even the infused expressions retained a clear rum backbone rather than drifting into novelty. We enjoyed them enough to leave with several bottles. This is artisanal pitorro done right, rooted in Puerto Rican tradition and confidently made in Maryland. Buying it locally is convenient, but going to the distillery is where the people, the story, and the spirit fully come together.

This local speakeasy has quickly moved its way to the top of my list…read more I love the ease of parking, safe neighborhood, and spacious speakeasy space. Always great service by bar manager Charlie, fantastic food and beverage menu and options. My favs so far are the grilled wings and chicken tortilla soup. The drinks are pretty awesome, and Charlie the Great can alter beverages to your preference if you prefer. This is an overall mezcal bar, but they have other libations as well. My fav is John Updike's Old Fashioned. My son ordered and loved the Strawberry Gin & Tonic. This establishment is a great conversation starter, and I look forward to returning asap.

She knows us and knew that we were here for the Monday Night Half Price Burger Night. My husband had his favorite, a blue cheese burger cooked medium rare with French fries and ranch dressing on the side for his fries. I was not super hungry, so I had a salad. The salad was just perfect - loaded with fresh greens, carrots, cucumbers, and grape tomatoes with blue cheese dressing. I took half of it home it was so large. You can never go wrong with the food or service at The Rec Room.

Bouncer at the door checking i.d.'s (saw him turn a couple girls down for having fakes). They serve a larger than standard size bar menu and we tried out several different items as well as cocktails and some craft draft beers. A Blue Hawaiin or Old Fashioned Whiskey cocktail is priced at 9 dollars each, but are served in full size pint glasses! I had a Rec Room Club Sandwich with sweet potato fries (see my pic) and my wife had a grilled Reuben and waffle fries. Both of them were insanely huge! Absolutely do not order an appetizer if you're going to get a sandwich or a burger. I literally could only eat half of my club sandwich and fries and I am generally a big eater. My club sandwich with s.p. fries was 12 bucks and it was a great value. It also tasted great and was made fresh with what seemed like Boar's Head meats, or something of that quality. I was very, very impressed and also quite surprised. It's a bar, so it's not the cleanest place in the world (see their bathrooms), but it's got surprisingly good food. I had a Troeg's IPA and 1 other craft pint (I forget which one) and they were 8 bucks each. I would definitely return here for the same reason...to eat and pre-game a bit before a show next door at The Recher. Note: there's no street parking here, but there's tons of paid parking lots behind here. It's like 5 bucks to park there for 8 hours at night.

Several people had…read morerecommended the chicken and waffles, which made me very excited as in NY, this dish done well is hard to find. Sadly, our server, Hope, I think, said the item had been taken off the menus despite many requests for it from patrons over time. While our other selections, crab cakes, salads, were very good we had been psyched for the now "86ed" chicken and waffles. The waitress recommended I reach out to Steve, as manager, to add the C&W on the menu, at least as a special occasionally. I would happily return to sample it, if this were to happen. Thanks. Good ambiance, pleasant staff.

The problem was the execution in the kitchen. Our flaming cheese appetizer was cool and firm, even after the flames subsided, steak was served medium rather than medium rare, as ordered, and the chicken & waffles entree consisted of a bowl of reheated pieces of fried chicken served over a half of a waffle. Not an appetizing presentation. In summary, I think the bar and wait staff were great, but the kitchen staff need some retraining.

Service was great and our waitress did a great job keeping the drinks flowing! I opted for the chicken and waffles to which I wasn't super pleased. I chose this dish because they mentioned they bread and season their chicken in house so I thought oh this must be amazing, however it was bland in my opinion. The waffle was great and so were the mimosas and sangria! I was a little caught off guard that they served the mimosas in a pint glass (that beer is served in) and with ice. Very interesting combo as I've never seen that before. They were accommodating however with providing us with a wine glass after asking. I also had the chowder which was good. It could've used more seasoning. Overall great environment and vibe - I just would go for more basic meals here if I visited again.

When he finally did, the cocktails were easily the worst we've ever had -- completely undrinkable. This isn't a one-off; it's the third time he's served us, and every time the service and drinks have been awful. He seemed out of it -- distracted, unprofessional, maybe even under the influence. To top it off, he served my drink in a dirty glass. When I asked for a replacement, he just poured the same disgusting drink into another cup instead of remaking it. I had to insist he start over. It's such a shame because the bartenders on the other side of The Point are excellent -- friendly, attentive, and professional. This one bartender, however, drags down the entire experience and the bar's reputation. I won't be coming back.
