A fun experience. The meal started with rolls with butter, and toast with chicken pate. And complimentary champagne! My 6 ounce filet mignon was weirdly huge. But tasty, so no complaints. We had dinner here on a Sunday night Jan 2026. We had the prix fixe menu, I had the iron steak, husband had the Cornish hen. The food here was great. They started us off with home made rolls and some complimentary champagne (so nice!), the 1st course for me was a wedge salad and it was great. They gave a palate cleanser (some citrus sorbet) between courses, very classy. My steak was flavorful and tender, with the sides working really well with the meat. Husband's Cornish hen was tasty and delicious. Finally the dessert came - I had the berry cobbler which was so nice, tangy and sweet and just the right ending to a good meal. Husband had the cheesecake which he very much enjoyed. In general we had a great time and delicious meal here, and we definitely will be back whenever we are in this area again. Despite Yelp saying they were open on Wednesday for dinner and despite me following the link on the hotel that hosts them and making a reservation by following that link on the hotel website, when we arrived, the restaurant was dark and it was clear it was closed. The restaurant should stop using a system that makes reservations on a day. They are not actually open. The system sent me several reminders to make sure I would get there on time. It was very disappointing to find they were not open and you have to scramble to eat somewhere else in town. You will see the owner is angry I reported this happened to me. I have stayed here before, and it has some big points like a nice setting, though the place itself is a little down on its luck and needs some love and care before I would stay here again. One other thing that would help is not having the owner post snide comments on yelp when experiences at the hotel and restaurant are sub-par. read more

Our experience was a disaster from start to finish. We had early reservations and were seated outside by the pool - great. Soon after we arrived, they seated a family with two young children at the table next to us in an otherwise empty restaurant. We ordered cocktails to start. My boyfriend's margarita had multiple fruit flies in it. It certainly seemed like the Rita was premixed (hence the fruit flies) which was disappointing for a restaurant with reviews like this. (My martini was fine.) We each ordered from the prix fixe menu. My partner ordered: crab cake, chicken cordon bleu, and sugar free dessert. I went with the two appetizer and dessert option. Service was both slow and uncoordinated, opting for two appetizers in lieu of an entree resulted in my food all coming out at once as my partner waited an additional 20 minutes to receive his entree. In addition to the haphazard service, the quality of the food was poor; most food items were previously frozen with minimal fresh ingredients. The Caesar salad was "wet" and inedible. Given the cost (and online reviews!), we had higher expectations. Adding to poor dining experience, hotel guests were free to roam the dining area opening up the opportunity for one guest to walk his dog, drink in hand, to urinate within 24 inches of our table. My partner spoke with the manager who made attempts to make the situation right, but removing a drink and appetizer from the total bill did not make up for the poor dining experience. The manager asked if we wanted our desserts and we both declined, paid our tab and left. We will not be returning to Coyote. We had MUCH better experiences at Michael's (and even Carlee's!) and will return to those establishments on our future visits. read more

Made a reservation a couple months the ago for an upcoming trip to Borrego Springs. Yesterday I received a text saying my reservation was canceled with no explanation. After several calls to answering service services, we finally got the answer that they are closing the restaurants on Sunday nights. a disappointment. This site says it is open on sundays. read more

Every year we go to the Coyote Steakhouse. This year was especially pleasant as we have met a nice young man named Saul. Saul was a good waiter, nice person, engaging, and tolerant of my old man jokes and advice. Saul is indicative of the attitude of all the employees there. Came to break Springs for a two day get away from San Diego, made reservations at this steakhouse that was located in hotel. We were immediately greeted and seated, and the staff were there were beyond attentive. We started with crabcakes and Aji tuna. I did the four course meal with the steak tips and she ordered the ribeye, and the food was very good. It was a very quiet hotel when we were there in the ambience in the restaurant with sort of romantic. If we're in the neighborhood, we definitely would be back. read more

Had a lovely experience at Coyote Steakhouse on a quiet, out-of-season weeknight. We ordered the oyesters rockefeller, wedge salad, and the rubeye. It was all very good. we also had a great red wine. There wine selection was well chosen and well priced . We ate at several other restaurants in the area and this was the best in terms of the restaurants. We will return. My rating: 3.5 Coyote Steakhouse had been on my list for a while and during a winter visit to Borrego, we finally checked it off. The experience was pleasant, but was somehow slightly lacking and not the 'high end steakhouse' experience that I'd imagined. Read on for my full review... WE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE PRIX-FIXE MENU The restaurant is located in a mid-century modern hotel. You walk through the attractive lobby to the check-in desk. We arrived before 6pm to take advantage of the reduced priced prix-fixe dinner, which consisted of a limited choice of an appetizer, main entrée and desert. The food was decent, although portions are moderate. I thought the mash potato was salty. Presentation was attractive, although we did note both of our desert bowls were chipped in more than one place. ATMOSPHERE The dining room is dimly lit with darkly painted walls and a stone wall feature. It was festively decorated for the holidays while we were there. Since we noted in the reservation that we were celebrating, they decorated the table with confetti and a table-top tinsel decor, which was a nice touch. There was soft music playing. The dining room was quite quiet when we were there and lacked a bit of atmosphere. SERVICE The service is adequate and friendly, although it was not quite as polished or 'high-end' as I was expecting for a steakhouse. Not sure if it was because we visited on an evening during the holiday season, but the whole hotel, lobby and restaurant felt a little dead and lifeless, lacking atmosphere. PARKING There is complimentary parking outside the hotel, although note that the ground is desert sand, so be prepared for your shoes to get really dusty! CASH DISCOUNT There is a 3% discount for paying in cash. I wish we'd known that before visiting. CONCLUSION We enjoyed the food and I'm glad we finally tried the restaurant, but I'm not sure I would rush back. A special meal for sure!! Extras make it over the top. The prix fixe menu makes it a leas expensive treat! You start with warm rolls & crunchy bread rounds to go pefectly with pate & whipped butter. We had ahi tartare, caesar salad, soup du jour, all excellent. Then you are served a small scoop of lemon sobert as a palete cleaner. We met Ramon last summer at Red Ocotillo, where he waited on us. Immediately we connected with him. He's charismatic and engaging and truly cares for his customers. But he was nowhere to be seen this summer. And then this past weekend we went to the Anza Borrego Foundation mixer at Coyote Steakhouse and to our great surprise, there he was, behind the bar. It was like reuniting with an old friend. As it turns out, Ramon is not just a great waiter, but he's also a wonderfully talented bartender, who hands down makes one of the most balanced and exquisite margaritas in Borrego. We enjoyed this restaurant for the first time tonight. We were celebrating my grandma's 88th birthday, and the restaurant went all out: noise makers, confetti, and a birthday hat. Outside evening patio heat lamp next to our table was not working, we asked our server that our heat lamp needed to be lit. We asked three times as this was our anniversary dinner on Valentines day. Some brought our propane tanks left them near our table, unlit. We asked the asst mgr to have the heat lamp lit and she couldn't light it. No one at your restaurant knew how to light the heat lamp. Food was fantastic. We ordered off the prix fixe menu. My bf had the chicken cordon bleu and said it was the best he ever had. I had the flat iron steak which was cooked to perfection and had a very tasty mushroom sauce. The Caesar salad was a bit too fishy for me. There were bits of anchovy in the dressing. The only con is that they have a piano player with beautiful music playing, but the music in the bar was so loud, we couldn't hear it! The music in the bar does not fit the vibe of the restaurant. (70s pop) I asked Ramon if he could turn it down and he did which helped a little bit, but again, just doesn't fit. They should either play Sinatra, Crosby, Dean Martin (standards) or just let the sounds of the piano waft in. Ramon was awesome! My reservation indicated this was a birthday meal but I guess that was overlooked. I told Ramon it was my bfs birthday and he was embarrassed that they didn't do anything.
