This is my go to spot for a basic burrito on the peninsula. The coyotes special steak burrito always delivers. It's very consistently made and the house green salsa is spectacular. The chips are thin and well fried. Although I don't necessarily love paying for chips and salsa, I get that's how they've kept their prices manageable so I don't mind so much. I agree the main guy who works there (I think I've seen him every single time I've gone to eat there), is a bit curt, he seems to do his job well and has never really made a mistake with my order. This place was a-okay! They serve basic Mexican food. I had two tacos, one carne asada, and one chicken. The tacos are basically tortilla, meat, and a side of salsa. The chicken was good and moist, but the carne asada was very dry. The salsa, even the mildest one was too spicey for me. I enjoyed the warm tortilla chips the best. They tasted like they were made in the restaurant. Service was fair, the cashier took my order and money and that was about it. There is plenty of parking in the shopping center. I walked in at 7:45pm to place a to go order. The man behind the counter told me they were closed. I said "it's not 8 yet", his response: oh well, it's 8 to me. Sorry, we're closed. I told him I came in person to order because DoorDash wasn't working. He didn't give 2 shits. He said, "we're closed now, please leave". Don't have to tell me twice. I like the food here and have been coming for like 20 years, but this encounter really left a bad taste in my mouth. If you gotta close early, make a little sign or sumpin'. We stopped by for lunch on a Tuesday and it wasnt too busy at all. The service was fast and friendly. Restaurant was clean and the outdoor seating looked good. It all was. We ordered a burrito and some nachos to split. It was all pretty good. The nachos werent great, but not bad either. The chicken needed a little more flavor imo. My mother in law ordered the shrimp. They were excellent. They came on a skillet and were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Im not sure if you can tell, but i was totally jealous. She offered me some, and they were the best shrimp i have had in some time. I would go back and order more off their menu to see what other surprises they might have. To start off, we mostly enjoy the food. Although there have been some questionable shrimp in the burritos.. HOWEVER, there is a creepy little gremlin working at the cash register every single time we go in. This short man makes intense and deeply uncomfortable eye contact with you while maintaining a smirk the entire time, especially if you happen to be a young girl/woman. My younger cousin has been coming here since she was a freshman in high school and he has been like this throughout all 4 years of her education. She's told me that whenever she is waiting for her order, this little gremlin stares at her the ENTIRE time. The creepy staring is one thing, BUT he also BLATANTLY tries to initiate physical contact. Every time you get a drink, he hands you the full cup (with no lid on), instead of just putting it down on the counter for you to grab yourself. The way he hands you the drink makes it very hard to get a good grip on the cup unless your hands overlap, basically making it impossible not to touch him. I always have to grab the cup from the very top because he places his hand right in the middle. Also, today, after he had already put all of our food in the bag, instead of putting the salsa cups in as well, like a normal person, he cupped them in his hand, expecting one of us to grab them from his hand. My cousin and I were shocked and just had to stare at him for an uncomfortable 15 seconds until he finally gave up and put them in the bag. To add on, my cousin has gotten her order taken from another employee and she didn't experience any of these problems. To make sure we weren't crazy, we searched through these yelp reviews and found several dating back to over 8 YEARS ago, describing the same creepy man ogling girlfriends, ELEVEN year old girls, teenage girls, and mothers. It's unfortunate we can't enjoy the food without having to go through an uncomfortable and creepy experience. My cousin and I were astounded by the lack of recent bad reviews because of this troll. I was hanging out at the library and got a little hungry around lunchtime. The Waterdog isn't open for lunch during the week, so I wandered a bit around the mall and found this lovely little restaurant. They have a nice menu, fresh food, and good prices. Sitting at one of the little side tables outside on the walkway allowed for a little sun and some conversation with the security guard as he passed. He couldn't stop raving about Coyote's and once my food came I could see why. Just as a note, the service was lightning fast! I barely had a moment to sit myself down and pull out the old iPad for a bit of writing before the food was placed in front of me. It was absolutely delicious, the helping was huge, and the price was very reasonable. Looking around, everyone else was enjoying their food as much as me which signals consistency. Been coming here routinely for the past 15 years and this place never misses. Friendly service, and amazing food for a solid price. I live for their lime steak burritos, they're the juiciest and most flavorful burritos I have ever had. All the staff are cool and the food usually comes out within 5-10 minutes. I don't normally leave reviews, but I give credit where credit is due. This place blows!! Today my wife went in to look at the menu, while I was parking the car. She was the only person in line and the guy asked if she was ready to order & she says no I need another minute please. He rolls his eyes at her and starts tapping on the counter (with the whole hurry up attitude) even though there isn't a line. She orders for us, the food was made in literally 10 seconds, was cold, cheese wasn't melted in the burrito, rice was slimy & my wife asks him for green salsa. He then rolls his eyes at her again and sends her on her way. We end up sitting outside for outdoor dining, & notice an older white man walk in. ALL OF A SUDDEN the attitude of burrito man changes. "Hey sir! How can I help you today? Would you like hot sauce for your food??" Greasy burrito man working here must be a racist or a sexist. Funny how he's so rude to my asian wife, but yet so kind to an older white man. I've been here many times. The best item on the menu is the black bean and cheese burrito . It always hits the spot. Be sure to ask for 2 green salsas as it can be a little dry at times. I'd recommend going in once a week as this meal is less than $10 . Comparable to chipotle Mexican grill prices even though the portion is smaller and you only get beans and cheese in a tortilla . Ahhhh, Coyote's. I've been coming here since the Bella Nails next door was a Color Me Mine. There was a very sweet old blonde lady who ran this place and boy did she get me through some tough times having conversations with my mother and I. The menu has not changed much since I was a child, thank GOD. I *always* get the chicken teriyaki burrito (don't judge until you try it) with extra sour cream and MY GOODNESS IS IT SO GOOD. I finish the whole burrito and I have problems finishing food (I get sick easily from overeating). Good God is that burrito good. Free chips with $10 order and the salsas are good but I warn you even the mild can seem spicy if you're sensitive. It's nice to see some of the same people working here since I was a child. They recognize me even if I don't come too often. If this place ever removes that burrito from their menu I might cry and hold a funeral for its death. read more

Not wanting to drive to go to a prior taqueria I decided to explore my backyard of Latin Cuisine. Realistically...I was craving, YES CRAVING, a great burrito like I used to get in the Mission District in San Francisco or a Danny Trejo Special. (If you can relate you know what I was hunkering for!!!) Coyote Cafes located in what I'd consider a small shopping center where you could find all your basic needs. Their menu was very impressive and described what appeared to be their signature item "BURRITOS!!" I ordered a simple burrito described as the "Surf & Turf" which stated came with a generous amount of tender shrimp and steak with sour cream, salsa and cheese. I also ordered a bean & cheese but was informed beans only came frijoles style no whole. Put a questionable flag up but I ordered anyhow. I also decided as a last minute item to get a Tortilla Soup. Got to the casa and first thing into a bite of the soup I noticed was no more then 4 tiny cubes of avacado. The broth was unseasonably and there was very little cheese and zero cream. One thing that filled my paper bowl tho was the filled to the rim of tortilla chips. I'd rate that soup a strong 1.5. Next my significant tried her B&C and remarked that there were creamy beans but the cheese was nonexistent so this simple item also got a 1.5. Finally!!! I was looking forward to my $15.00 dollar Surf & Turfer and bit into it with zest only to come out with some chewy meat and an overload of fillers. As I chewed my chewy meat I wondered if I'd gotten the wrong order but avast I came across 1 of 3 of the Turf portion of my burrito. A grade of 2.5 is being generous! I knew the former owner of this once really great place but unfortunately quality, consistency and employees that appeared happy to have your business are long gone amigos! read more

This is my last visit. I don't normally leave Yelp reviews but i feel others need to know and beware. The clerk and/or business owner (not sure but he is a shorter man probably in mid or late 30s or older) who cashiers here is extremely perverted and inappropriate. I walked in with my 11 year old today and I had to escort her back into the car and have her wait for me because he couldn't stop INTENSELY and REPEATEDLY staring at her legs (she was wearing basic shorts any 11 year old girl might). He was staring so hard he had trouble taking my order, and could barely pull himself away to focus on his task. This created visible tension along with Several awkward pauses. Zero self awareness . Pretty much I went into this established met last week. I ordered a chili Verde burrito and make sure they put cilantro and pico de gallo on my burrito. They charge me $11.75. I went back for the second time yesterday Sunday and they charge me $17 and some change because I wanted to make sure they put pico de gallo and cilantro the point is I talk to the manager he he had a nasty attitude he said well the menu was wrong. The correct price should be $14.50 or $14.25. I do not recommend this establishment for those very reasons I have listed. read more

Yes, as other Yelpers have noted, this place has a unique menu of Mexican food, and I like what the are trying to do. There are too many restaurants serving the same food prepared the same way. The Chipotle burrito is yum. The chipotle flavor is just the right amount for my taste buds, not too light and not too heavy, so I can taste the other ingredients. Well done. A local & convenient option for quick, quality food. Sometimes Chipotle or In and Out (or Habit or Panda) takes a while, that's where this place comes in. The portions are always filling and the green salsa does a great job of accentuating the proteins here. Had a regular chicken burrito from this place this evening. Ended up having an allergic reaction to peanut oil or sauce. . .not a listed ingredient in what I ordered. One of the cooks probably isn't washing pans/grills after cooking with peanuts, maybe from molé dishes. If you or your kid has a peanut allergy I'd steer clear of this place. As a long time vegan or strict vegetarian staying in Belmont a few days recently I ventured over to Coyote's Mexican Cafe for supper. They had two burritos that could be done up vegan the "Veggie Burrito" and "Cajun Veggie Burrito" as well as a taco dish that could be made vegan. I opted for the "Cajun Veggie Burrito" as it sounded interesting and added guacamole yet little was mentioned in the description or by the gentleman who took my order. I found the "Cajun Burrito" through the roof spicy. I love spicy food and have a high tolerance for it yet this was a bit too much and super spicy even for my palate. This is coming from someone who cooks using raw Serrano peppers with seeds regularly! I found the homemade salsas and hot sauces to be great. I thought a little more guacamole could have been added. I would go back to try the "Veggie Burrito" and doctor it up with some of the hot sauces and salsas to my liking. I feel that if I returned it could easily be bumped up to 4 stars since the atmosphere and service was great to pair with an affordable filling burrito. read more

Dirty. I went in on a Friday ~7:00pm on a Friday in January. The cashier was putting something in his mouth with his fingers behind the counter. Not appealing. Then he rung me up, proceeded to talk to the food maker while putting his bare hand, now dirty hand after touching money and the cash register, on the food prep area. He also wasn't wearing an apron so it looked less professional and clean overall. One should always wash their hands after touching money before touching any food prep surface.
