Full disclosure: FM Design + Build remodeled my parents kitchen, not mine. I wish it were mine and…read morenow that it's so beautiful I use it like my own. Stephen and Sandra are a husband and wife team, each with different strengths, that literally walk you through each step of the remodeling process. They went with my parents to the granite yard (I didn't know that was a thing) to pick out the perfect granite for the kitchen, talked endlessly about functionality, and offered solutions to best meet my parents needs. Plus Stephen got his hands dirty completing a majority of the construction by himself. Unfortunately I don't have a before picture but the space is truly transformed. Beverage fridge? Check. Pull out drawer for pots? Check. Kitchen worthy of the most ardent chef? Check! And the bonus of enjoying time with people you love in a comfortable space. I know my parents are happier seeing me more often as I'm over all the time to bake and cook up huge meals. If you're looking for great quality construction, people who are a dream to work with, and reasonably priced services, I highly recommend FM Design + Build.

I contracted with FM Design+Build for a complex work project. While Stephen's expertise is in…read moreresidential work, this project was a bit more industrial. Stephen accepted the challenge and executed the work beautifully. His bid was the lowest I found. He was an excellent communicator and easy to get in touch with. He was able to take an existing space and create amazing renderings of my vision. His attention to detail was very appreciated and everyone involved in the project was very pleased with the end result of Stephen's work. Stephen was prompt, efficient, creative, and flexible....all terrific qualities in a business owner. I highly recommend FM Design+Build and will likely be consulting with them on personal projects in the future.

Tl;dr: Nicoll is AMAZING and clearly knows what she's doing when it comes to professionally…read moreorganizing your home! Read on below if you want more details about the whole process. So...here's the thing about me. I love stuff. I love having a variety of stuff. I love having colorful pens, cute bags, books...you name it, and I probably started collecting some of it at some point. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with wanting to have and own those things. But what I did notice was that the sheer amount of that stuff was really starting to stress me out. Things didn't have a place. My closet and dresser and drawers were stuffed to the brim. I found it difficult to enjoy these fun things I owned because they were mixed in with other things I didn't enjoy or use anymore. I found that I was hanging onto so many items for years "just in case," and the case would never arrive. I'd tried for years with things like the minimalist challenge and reading self help books to try and get rid of things, but I couldn't seem to make a dent. That's where Nicoll came in. My partner helped me find Nicoll on Yelp and connected the two of us together. We had an introductory phone call where she asked me some questions, and I shared my frustrations with getting rid of things and really needing help with it. We ended up making an appointment for a week later where she showed up with her toolkit and bag of bags for donations. We did a little walk around and I shared areas of stress for me and what I wanted out of the space, which was to know where everything was and to know what I owned. After the intro assessment we dove right in. In the next few hours we: ⁃ Took EVERYTHING out of my closet and purged SO much of it. We went piece by piece and she helped ask clarifying questions (when did I last wear it? Do I like it?) and could usually pick up on if I actually liked something. I noticed patterns of how I reacted when I loved something vs when I wasn't sure or was sort of convincing myself. This is an exercise I tried doing before on my own, but when there's someone standing there, who you paid to help you, who's not attached to your stuff....let me tell you, it changes the game. I found myself deciding to donate (and sometimes sell) what must have been at least a third of my closet (clothes, hats, bags, electronics, etc). ⁃ She busted out her label maker and helped organize and label shelves in categories that made sense. Now I know where everything is! ⁃ She packed up all the items I decided to donate into bags and packed them into her car. It ended up being about 15 bags of things which was absolutely wild to me. Nicoll taking these bags out of my house was a game changer, because there have been many times I've decided to donate items that just end up sitting there in bags for months! I noticed that night going to bed that my room felt emptier, in a really good way. It felt calmer, cleaner, and like I could breathe a bit easier. Some people might read this and think that they shouldn't have to hire someone to help them organize. I know for myself that I hit a wall when it came to organizing on my own, and I needed to ask for help. I'm so glad I did, because it changed my life and my relationship with "stuff." I'm confident that Nicoll will be able to help you if you need it, and I cannot recommend her enough!

She helped me get straight to work purging, organized my awkward old-house spaces, and packed up all my donations and e-waste when she left leaving the house feeling so free. Highly recommend! Wish I would have done this sooner, and will hire again for maintenance.
