    Paella with Chef Gustavo
    Katarina L.

Cozymeal is a pretty great way to describe the night. 100% cozy with 12 of us gathered in Chef Gustavo's home for an evening of incredible paella, lots of wine and fantastic company. He had spinach and cheese empanadas nearly ready for us when we arrived and after not too long, we all were ready to get the cooking started. We were either gathered around the kitchen island helping Chef Gustavo chop, peel or mix, seated at the long dinner table or hanging out on the patio outside. It was such a great mix of relaxing, sipping wine and getting our hands dirty and cooking a bit. He shared lots of cooking tips and tricks and made the entire night feel so casual, fun and intimate. We've all taken at least cooking class but this was more like being invited over for a friends dinner party. The paella came out SO incredibly. Packed with seafood (which we learned is actually not the traditional way to serve paella. Usually it is just a piece or two of protein and the rice is the star of the meal). So much flavor I could have had a million servings. It was delicious. For desert, Chef made dulce de leche crepes and I didn't think I had room before but I absolutely enjoyed at least two of these. I loved being a part of this awesome night and would definitely recommend a Cozymeal with Chef Gustavo!

Chef Benoit recently came over to cook for us for our 5 year anniversary and he was spectacular. We had the escargot, beef bourguignon, and chocolate soufflé. He also recommended a wine to pair with it. It was all amazing!! We have two little ones, and he was very flexible with starting a little later so the kids could get to bed first. We got to chat with him for a bit and learned he has 40+ experience of cooking around the world. His food was delicious and we would definitely love to eat with him again!! Thank you for making our anniversary so special, Chef!!

We had a group of 12 people for a Paella class with Chef Gustavo. I've taken quite a few cooking classes in DC and around the country, and this was the first time I was actually in someone's house and felt like I was learning from a friend in real time. While it was quite warm (both outside and inside of Chef's kitchen), he had fans going to keep us cool and a nice cross breeze from the wind. We cooked the paella outside on this back patio and it was a really beautiful summer night. Chef shared with us a lot of his culinary and cultural knowledge, including food prep tips, and how to not offend people in Spain when ordering paella (pro tip: don't ask for sausage!!) For dinner Chef Gustavo made spinach and cheese empanadas as an appetizer, which were flaky and delicious. For our main, we feasted on a seafood paella chock full of mussels, clams, and shrimp, as well as a few meat options that chef prepared separately for the non-vegetarians in the group. For dessert, he prepared some sinfully indulgent dulce de leche crepes. Although he doesn't serve alcohol, we were able to bring our own wine and share bottles amongst friends, so we got to try a fun variety of wines with our meal. It was such a fun event and I would definitely use Cozymeal and Chef Gustavo again in the future! Thank you Chef Gustavo!

Great sushi tips. Loved the lesson in cucumber slicing, plating rules of the wasbi, wagu beef and fresh lobster. He easily handled special food accommodations and our crazy kids and dogs. We also got a few tips re Japanese knives. We'd do it again! Thanks Chef Justin!

I signed up for the Omakase with Chef Made and he was AMAZING! The food was delicious and the presentation was outstanding. We ended up losing power (and had a flood to boot) and he continued on. A true professional. He found out it was my Dad's birthday and asked what kind of fish he liked and made a beautiful special dish for him. I am trying to figure out what kind of event I can book next with him.

I highly recommend the Ibero-American Fusion class with Chef Gustavo! Chef Gustavo is really passionate about cooking. His menu has flavors of Latin America and the Caribbean, reflecting his extensive travels. For example, the NY steak dish had a fantastic yellow pepper sauce, which he learned in Peru. Although the many of the ingredients were local, he re-created the sauce using creative techniques and then shared this marvelous recipe with us! He was really generous in sharing his knowledge, not just about the recipes themselves, but about different chopping techniques, how to pick the perfect plantains, and how to grill inside. The three hours flew by between cooking, eating and chatting. We have taken a few cooking classes before, but this menu stands out as the most delicious. Each dish was absolutely incredible, and such a culinary experience! What made it even better was watching Chef Gustavo prepare the dishes and how accessible they could be recreated at home, despite the top-notch restaurant quality.

Me and my boyfriend with our sushi platter.

My boyfriend and I recently spent a week in Washington, D.C. for our third anniversary. My boyfriend loves sushi and even introduced me to the wonders of it. So part of my anniversary gift to him was to participate in a private sushi class! I had researched a few different sushi chefs before choosing Chef Chericia. I liked that she would travel to us during our stay in the city, her menu seemed to be the most flexible, and she was also a woman of color. I found that intriguing as traditionally sushi chefs are Asian men. Weeks prior to our vacation I had spoke with Chericia to adjust the menu to accommodate my boyfriend's love of eel and my desire to only really eat shrimp tempura and crab sushi. She was able to change her menu accordingly and when she arrived brought some interesting pairings such as mango and scallions. Chef Chericia was so sweet, personable, and thorough. She explained every step in detail and helped my boyfriend when his cuts and rolls weren't great. We were able to get to know each other in this intimate experience and I'm forever grateful to her. We finished the class was a full platter of sushi that lasted us at least two days! If I'm ever in the D.C. area again, I will not hesitant to invest in their experience with Chef Chericia again.

We had such a lovely cooking experience with Chef John from Cozymeal. He arrived on time(early), had such a personable and laid back demeanor, and really made us feel comfortable creating these dishes. He carefully explained all the steps and let us be as involved or least involved as we wanted. Not to mention that the mumbo chicken, crab cakes, fried corn, roasted potatoes, and grilled watermelon were such nice portion sizes and super flavorful. Thanks Chef, for helping us celebrate our dear friends birthday in a fun and delicious way!
