As someone who took it during the weekends, it is tough to find practice for the skills needed for the exam so the staff did coordinate with the students to schedule the times & days to practice over the weekdays. However, I do not like how they kick people out in order to prioritize those that are almost graduating out of no where so practicing skills is hard with such a small space. During clinicals, the instructor, whose an LVN was incompetent to aid us for the actual hands-on experience & during that time at the site we were at, there was alot of COVID cases, but Mr. V effectively took charge of the situation & move us to a different clinical site in order to get the hours in as well as organize our class time to help us practice our CNA skills. Overall, the experience was mixed for me.

The class wasn't very structured or thorough. It just seemed very rushed and hasty and a little…read moresloppy. At one point, I tried to ask her a question about whether the breathing part actually delivers enough oxygen, but her answer was for a different question. I felt like she didn't take the time to listen to what I was asking. The CPR training was reasonable, but the First-Aid part was barely addressed. I recently completed a NOLS/WMS Wilderness First-Aid course through REI, and I felt like I learned so much there. And while being in the wilderness may be a significant difference in circumstances, the injuries are not. Blisters, heat-exhaustion, impalements, etc. can all happen anywhere, especially with children. But in the end they were quick to respond to my email, and I got my certification in less than 2 hours, on a holiday weekend no less, so I guess I should be happy with that. I'm just not someone who's looking for an 'easy A'. It's kind of sad, because many of the students that come here are working for schools or the YMCA, and they're supposedly the ones trained to handle your children in emergency situations.

As a non nursing medical professional I am not required to have an ACLS cert, but I felt passionately that myself and others that work in hospitals should be aware of how Advanced Life Support works and what general concepts are covered beyond BLS. I will make it a routine to repeat the ACLS class in the years to come because they did such a great job at STAR to put students in simulations that you will actually encounter in healthcare. He does a great job at explaining all of the important information we learned on the learning modules during the in-person skills training. For…read moreme, it is important to stay up to date on my skills, as well as the updates for performing CPR successfully. A few days ago, I completed my second CPR certification through iMaster CPR, as my first was just over two years ago. iMaster CPR is in a small suite in an office complex in Mission Valley. It is easy to find and has plenty of parking. The classroom itself is not the most comfortable, as it is very small, and a bit on the warm, stuffy side. I had also wished that I had brought a bottle of water with me, as there was none available. George has been the instructor both times. He is a kind and funny person who walks around gently correcting our practice and sets us up for success on the written exam. At the end of class we downloaded a certification from the American Heart Association after we pass the short exam. iMaster CPR does a good job of giving us the required skills for certification in approximately two hours. I will say, for someone such as myself, who doesn't "need" the certification, but wants to carefully learn the skills, I would prefer a longer course with even more hands- on experience. All in all, I am grateful that I was able to take this course to stay up to date with my basic CPR skills. The instructor is good it is conveniently located.
