We hired Ron to do the architectural plans for the remodel of a fourplex. He came in with a fancy camera scanner to measure everything, a very efficient process. He was very much on time with the delivery of the initial draft. We discussed minor changes and submitted to the city, and they had just had a few minor corrections before approval, which is better than other architectural teams I have worked with. After we began work on the project, we discovered a beam in the ceiling was not pointing in the right direction, leading to the need for a revision to the plans. The engineer Margarito went on site and approved changes, which allowed us to quickly adapt. Overall this was a very streamlined process, I would be happy to use his services in the future and can very much recommend him.

The timeline was totally reasonable (honestly, my slow email responses probably added more time than anything on their end), and the plans were approved by the city on the first try, which was a huge relief. It was also hard to find someone willing to take on a smaller project at a fair price, and they were very thorough. Even months later, they've still been responsive with follow-up questions from our contractor. Would definitely recommend, especially for smaller renovations or additions.

We started with an ~1,600 sq ft home and Ben helped us completely reimagine it into a 3,600+ sq ft dream home that our family plans to keep for generations. What stood out throughout the process was Ben's rare combo of deep technical capability and a genuinely easy, approachable working style. Ben brought significant in-house strength to the table: full architectural design (including our California room / covered patio), plus engineering coordination around soil/civil and drainage planning. That integrated approach made the process far more seamless -- fewer handoffs, fewer gaps, and fewer "who owns this?" moments. And his pricing was fair and attractive for the level of rigor and service. As the build progressed, Ben stayed close and collaborative -- not just sending plans and disappearing. He worked with us and our contractors, answered questions, and helped keep things moving. He was also extremely responsive; he typically replied within a few hours, which makes a huge difference when you're trying to keep a project on track. Ben handled submissions and permitting with the City of Fullerton and worked through City-requested changes efficiently, saving us countless hours and headaches. He also has a sharp eye for detail -- his plans were thorough, complete, and clear -- and he brought creative solutions to get the design we wanted while respecting the budget. Our taste is traditional / Cape Cod, and he did an outstanding job translating inspiration photos into a finished design that feels classic, intentional, and timeless. We went through more than four rounds of revisions, and Ben was patient and constructive the entire time -- he worked with us until we were genuinely happy. Bottom line: Ben translated our dreams into reality, and did it with professionalism, responsiveness, and real care. We recommend him and are happy to discuss our experience with anyone considering BN Design Build. We're almost done with the build and will post pictures once finished!

From start to finish, the level of professionalism, expertise, and attention to detail was truly outstanding. The engineer demonstrated a deep understanding of structural integrity while also respecting the design vision for the space. He carefully evaluated the existing structure and developed precise plans to safely support the load while allowing us to achieve the open, modern kitchen we wanted. His calculations and documentation were thorough and well-organized, which made the permitting and construction process much smoother. What impressed me most was his ability to balance technical precision with practical solutions. He communicated clearly, answered all questions patiently, and ensured the plans were easy for the contractor to follow. The result was a seamless transformation--our kitchen now feels bright, spacious, and beautifully integrated with the rest of the home. If you need an engineer for structural modifications, especially for projects involving load-bearing walls, I highly recommend his services. His expertise, reliability, and commitment to quality truly set him apart.

Easy 5 stars from me…read more Hired Artoo Design to help with plans for a renovation project in my home. Because of the structural and electrical scope, I decided to build fully permitted and up to code. I hired Artoo twice. About 18 months ago I bought a one-time consultation. The consult fee is not cheap, but it's totally worth it. I got a full preview of everything that would be required for my project - sizing of structural members, ratings for materials, and what would (and wouldn't) fly with city inspectors. I also got a handful of solutions for things I didn't know how to handle. The meeting really streamlined my planning and thinking about design tradeoffs. The second time I hired Artoo (December) was to do the full construction plans. I met with Ramy to do an updated plan review and for him to take some measurements. I really felt like he was taking my input and we were working together on the final details. Then the quality of the drawings themselves are impeccable. In a previous life I did heavy AutoCAD drafting, so I'm very picky about drawings being accurate and complete. They were also turned around really fast. Much faster than I could have drawn in my prime. Next was probably the best part - Ramy said he would help with any notes from the city plan review process. I was worried how that would go. We had to do some revisions, but it was totally painless thanks to hiring the right company. I felt unstoppable with Ramy as a partner, and I got everything I wanted approved by the city. I'm writing this review today (August) because I had another small question about the plans, and Ramy basically answered my email immediately. Super tight customer service. I don't always have the budget or time to build things right. Artoo Design is one of those companies you should hire when quality and time is important. When you have a project that needs the best, this is the group to go to.

John was hired by my company to provide Architectural work for Tenant Improvements on our business…read morebuilding. We entered into a contract in Oct 13 2014 to have this worked performed. The TI work to perform was very basic, walls, demo, lighting, ceiling... John was aware of his obligation to also fulfill requirements from Irvine Company, ADA, and Title 24 and Peer groups. John came across as very understanding with a calm safe demeanor, as our plans moved forward I began to see details in his work performance, very poor followup, failure to grasp simple instructions. Our one mistake was signing a contract that paid John as he performed certain duties, needless to say this was a mistake; as now - since he has been paid almost in full, he now refuses to fulfill the last duties on the contract- to submit our plans unless we pay more money outside of the contract. Our original contract was $9,900 as to date we paid over $14k and almost 6 months later NO permits. In December John began to complain about not being paid enough, he started to complicate the issues of TI work often giving me reasons he could not move forward, misinformation in regards to Title 24. Our requirements were very simple, he went out of his way to complicate these issues and even had the nerve to say he would not submit our full plan that we paid for, but would submit a reduced plan for the front office- Then, expected us to pay to have the work to be done all over again, it was the same work we paid to have done in the first place, NOTHING changed. He also emailed us saying he would not submit our plans due to a moral issue, yet if we paid more money he would then submit the plan. As a professional, it was his duty to explain the procedure, and follow this TI work to its completion. He has failed on every front, using tricks and play on words to try and turn the issues back at us, instead of providing us our permit as he agreed, which by the way he says has been ready since January 2015. Why don't we have our permit then, because we refuse to pay his ransom fees! We have tried to reason and compromise with him in every way possible, since no other Architect will take on his work, and since we cannot do anything with TI without the permits, John has us in a corner and is using this to force us into paying more money. Our last hope was a negotiation in him submitting this full plan set if we remove him as architect on record - This came after he was informed we filed a complaint against him with the Architectural review board. We of course agreed given that he would guarantee us our permit, we asked him to verify for us what the plans he was submitting consisted of, HE REFUSED, telling us to look at the plans?!? We are not architects, our only choice was to get a written document of what he promised to submit, for our protection - since he has been proven untrustworthy. John also sent over a pathetic "Release of all Claims" contract, removing all responsibility for his work, guaranteeing we could not sue or he would be entitled to all attorney fees, essentially this contract would leave us impotent, especially after he submits these plans to the city- that BTW he is refusing to outline exactly what they consist of. I have filed complaints with the appropriate agencies, and legal recourse seems to be our only hope. You've been warned.
