CAPTAIN'S CHOICE COMBO: A little of everything,
Jeffrey A.

Your food is delicious and I have been here twice. I plan to return again! The fact that you started in Ventura is an added bonus! My only concern was, at the time of paying my bill at counter, the cashier seemed confused when issuing the change ($30.16 bill, $40.00 tendered ($9.84 change owed)). At any rate, it got resolved and I will definitely be back!

Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings

Service was good and fast, helpful staff. As for the food, it looked appealing but eating it wasn't the best experience. The po boy shrimp fell apart easily as the thick bun seemed to be holding all the ingredients however the sauce soaked up at the bottom of the sandwich split the bottom. Needless to say the sandwich got messy so I decided to eat the shrimp, lettuce and bun separately with a fork. Still had good flavor. As for the lemon pepper chicken wings, there was little hint of lemon but enough to taste on a first bite while also, some chicken wings were juicier than others. On top of the experience, ambiance was decent for a Wednesday after but didn't appreciate the open entrance door that brought it flies to my table. Food was good but may stick to getting the seafood they're known for:

The food and service were exceptional, making for a truly enjoyable experience. The space was impeccably clean, and we left completely satisfied. This is definitely a place we look forward to visiting again.

First Time & Hopefully Not the Last! This was my first time at a seafood boil spot, and I was a little unsure of what to expect--but my daughter loves these places, so we gave it a shot. I'm so glad we did! Natalie was our server and she was amazing--so patient, personable, and genuinely kind. She made us feel completely comfortable and walked us through everything. The food was incredible, and the whole experience felt relaxed and welcoming. Natalie really made our visit special. Looking forward to coming back soon.

AYCE

One of my favorite seafood boil places in California HANDS DOWN! I've been to this place countless times (ordering in-store and online) and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is always lively and busy and the staff is always very attentive. I think it's always worth getting the AYCE option because it comes with as many sides as you want like potatoes, corn, sausage and ordering them individually actually adds up quite a bit. (Also the AYCE price included a free drink and a cluster of snow crab legs PER PERSON) One thing I will note though, I've had AYCE for a party of two and I feel that it's just too much food to go through for two people and u end up not being able to enjoy it as much. For parties of 4 or greater- I think that's where AYCE hits the sweet spot and it's like the perfect number of people to enjoy everything without feeling exhausted of eating . Just a heads up, the AYCE menu does not include clams (but does include mussels, shrimp, and crawfish) so if you're primarily a clam eater- just stick to the normal menu :) The food is always so hot and flavorful; I usually get the "crab and spice medium" sauce and IT SLAPS. I dare say that it is better than boiling crab... simply because it is just as flavorful but not as salty! Overall, it's a yummy "get your hands dirty" kind of place- I always bring my friends visiting Ventura here and they always love it!

I liked the flavors. We came on a Sunday for lunch and it was a little busy. There was no diet coke/pepsi when I went, I think they ran out since the menu had that listed as an option. They only had coke zero. We will definitely come back here as the food was good. There's only one single stall bathroom and a sink outside to wash your hands.

Delicious! Stopped by coming back from our trip. First time coming and very good service!

Great food , service and cute place to go eat. My son and I enjoyed their seafood boiled.

All u can it seafood boil!!! Loved the Cajun flavors!

Outstanding seafood choices and flavors!!! Worth the drive (I'm from San Diego)! Cajun butter is so garlicky!!!!

We went for dinner party of 10. The place was packed but they only have 2 servers, so the food took forever for everyone. The rice seems like a low quality rice, or maybe from yesterday's rice or batch. It has some hard stuff and it didn't taste good. Maybe it's a cheapest version of rice, not sure but I know it's not the best white rice. We order variety of shrimp, mussels and crabs. We had calamari, fries & garlic noodles.. we ordered Cajun pasta but never came (did they forget?) so they just gave us a small cup of it free of charge. We left at 9pm, we were not the last ones there. Please hire more staff.

Arianna M.

One of my fave spots in Ventura. I love their shrimp boils and Cajun fries! I do prefer boiling crab, but this is much more convenient.

Ask the Community - Ventura Crab N Spice

Do You Have Outside Seating?

No, unfortunately we do not.

How much is the AYCE? Does it include snow crab legs, lobster, crab?

AYCE includes crab legs on the 1st round. The Price is usually around $35.00

Is there a minimum number of customers for the AYCE, and what time is it available?

Hello Cat. There is no minimum number of guest. The AYCE is available in Ventura all day everyday. We look forward to serving you!

Are snow crab legs included in the AYCE or is there an extra charge?

Yes they're included.

I want to visit, but I am alone. Is there a slow time & day when I can dine in alone? I don't want to take off the table that you can serve a big family instead.

There's smaller tables for 1 person.

Can you make reservations?

No unfortunately it’s first come first serve. The best option is to call ahead to see if there is a wait. Usually the wait is no longer that 15 mins depending on the size of the party.

How much is 1 pound of shrimps?

The food quality was also outstanding. Everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. It's easy to see why this place has such a loyal following. That said, I do want to offer some respectful feedback about the decor. While I understand the restaurant leans into vintage and Southern-inspired themes, one of the large photographs on the wall appears to depict a pre-Civil Rights era social gathering with an all-white crowd. Given the historical context of that time period, imagery like that can feel uncomfortable or exclusionary to some guests, even if that wasn't the intention. I share this feedback not to criticize the restaurant's values, but to encourage thoughtful consideration of how historical imagery is experienced by a diverse customer base. The excellent food and service create a welcoming atmosphere, and updating decor choices to reflect more inclusive or culturally representative imagery could make that experience even stronger. Overall, I truly enjoyed the meal and the service, and I hope this feedback is taken in the constructive spirit in which it's offered.

We ordered 2 lbs of shrimp - I think it's $25+/lb and 1 lb crawfish (can't recall how much maybe its $17+ /lb), 5 steamed rice, 1 large extra sauce (drunken crab mix - can't recall exact name) . Everything was really good - we did medium spice and it was spicy especially for my 12 yr old son but he still enjoyed it though. The service was good, but could've been better - staff are always by the bar are and just chatting, but someone will come check on us from time to time - its just that when we need their attention sometimes its hard because they had their back away from us and we ate at around 2:30ish so the restaurant was pretty empty - just 2-3 tables taken inside. The place is big, lots of seating and great for big groups. However, one of my disappoinment here is the ladies bathroom - its really dirty, trash overflowing and on the floor, etc, like its really dirty. I hope management can fix that issue with the staff. P.S I forgot to take photos because my kids were very hungry and didnt let me take pics...next time!

West of Orleans is the real deal; an institution that meets, excels, devastates all notions of what Cajun/Creole/BBQ cuisine can or should accomplish to stand out amongst the rest of the competition. And with how high they stand, all should recognize. With a menu as expansive as most, West of Orleans manages to offer their patrons all of the classics seen with most other restaurants of the same variety, but with so much more... But onto the food. It's true to its word. Fresh, delicate, light, harmonious in every sense of the word. Flavorful beyond flavor. The PoBoy was delicious, as the shrimp popped, the remoulade sauce incredible, tangy and sweet but not overpowering. The Jerk Chicken Mac-n-Cheese was the perfect pair between savory and succulence. Not too spicy, not too smoky, just enough of everything. The macaroni held up its half of the bargain as well. Currently planning my next experience here. Stay tuned.

Marcus gave us samples of the chicken gumbo and from the moment it touched my tongue, I was sold. I got a 32 ounce Gumbo and let me tell you, it was plenty. Everything was perfectly seasoned and packed full with some much pride and flavor. You could tell Marcus and his wife are passionate about their business and the product they're putting out. In addition to the chicken gumbo, I got the cornbread with the honey butter. Let me tell you something, I must've died and went to heaven. One of my friends' grandmothers made corn bread back in the day and this made me think of those times. The cornbread wasn't dry and the honey butter just amplified it to the next level.
