My experience at a fire Island Grill is always pleasant, The location in Santa Clarita close down and I was very bummed out to find out I couldn't get another plate, I'm working in Oxnard and was excited to see they have a location near me, As always, the staff was very friendly enthusiastic, Smells amazing inside the second you walk in and I ended up ordering the chicken and steak combo plates with a side of shrimp, I'm not a big fan of cold macaroni salad salads in general so they were able to give me double vegetable, steak, perfectly cooked, juicy, and tender. The chicken was perfectly cooked as well, the vegetables were amazing, especially with the Thai peanut sauce and the spicy pineapple teriyaki, I did request Sriracha on the side because I really do like spicy stuff,. I have eaten here several times, and each time the experiences were similar, both food wise and service wise. The food is decent but there were some misses. Overall rating is probably closer to 3.5. The employees greet you shortly after entering, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Ordering was simple and easy, the employees were helpful if you had any questions such as what Island rice was. There was an even an instance where an employee checked on our table which was totally unexpected. They have daily specials where you get a free beverage or a side of mango mac salad. The Thursday special was "Any chicken entree". I ordered the steak/chicken combo plate and since the plate came with the mac salad I asked for the free beverage but was told it was for the chicken only not the combos. Although not a big deal but it clearly said "Any" and I did have chicken in my order. Am I wrong? Not to mention my order also cost more than all the chicken only items. The meat and veggies were seasoned well. I've tried three of the sauces. The Thai peanut sauce was light on flavor. The pineapple teriyaki sauce was a bit too salty for me. Spicy pineapple teriyaki sauce was just as salty but with some heat. I will try the Jamaican jerk next time. Personally I thought the sauce wasn't really needed as everything already had enough flavor for me. The island rice also added extra flavor to the meal. Ventura just leveled up with the grand opening of Fire Island Grill. I was super excited to learn that this franchise was coming to Ventura. I'd been to this spot a few times in Simi valley and always enjoyed them. Definitely a smart move coming to Ventura and being located right by the courthouse and neighboring businesses as I'm sure this place will be getting pretty busy around lunch time. Here's what I got: -I went for the teriyaki chicken bowl. The chicken was charred and fresh off the grill. It was a healthy option as I had their rice and veggies added. However, having had their noodles here before I would say I am team noodles over rice. Rice is a healthier option but their rice here is just "ok" in my opinion. The noodles will be my go to next time. -The real winner for me here were the blackened shrimp tacos. Try this dish, trust me. Watching the chef grill the shrimp right in front of me with that added spicy blackened seasoning? Let's just say it was love at first bite :) Their sauce had a nice kick but the bite was cooled down with their slaw and fruit salsa. Stepping inside the vibes are tropical, bright colors, fun decor, and comfy seating. The staff couldn't have been sweeter or more excited to serve, making the whole experience even better. Just a note: Be patient as they have only recently opened this Ventura location and are still navigating some of the kinks but overall I had a great experience. I had such a great experience at Fire Island Grill. It was so sweet to be greeted with an ALOHA right when waking in. The staff member Rudy was so kind and really helpful with his recommendations. They have great prices and yummy food. The luau pork with jerk sauce was really good and I really liked the pineapple teriyaki sauce too. They had a fun hawiaan vibe going on and it gave me vacation feels. I love that there's lots of seating too. I'm going back to try their tacos next. read more

I was excited to try this place out and unfortunately was left underwhelmed. I got the chicken plate with noodles. I'm not sure if I got the wrong sauce option or what but the food definitely lacked a bit of flavor. The quality of the chicken was good and the vegetables were fresh but nothing really stood out to me. The tropical Mac salad was a tad too sweet for my taste as well. I went here due to the many great recommendations I got. It's a nice, clean place. The servers were friendly. I got: chicken plate with veggies and noodles: I got the sauce on the side and maybe that was my mistake, but the chicken was really dry and chewy. Also, the portion size itself was nice, plenty of rice, noodles, and veggies, but not as much chicken. beef burger: This was great, much better than the chicken. The beef was juicy and tasty. If you're looking for a quick rice/noodle bowl for lunch I would definitely recommend. Food comes out quick so it's perfect for lunch. I ordered white rice and their chicken with pineapple teriyaki sauce, good portions and very filling. I also ordered a side of mango macaroni salad, that portion was on the small side but tasted good. Will need to come back and try the noodles. We popped into this place today to try something new. We ordered on line for in store pick up. We received a text letting us know our order was ready and when we got there the food was not ready which is okay there was a sign outside indicating grand opening and people are new and although the place was empty it is near court house so maybe they were busier than what it appeared. We ordered chicken and pulled pork platter with island rice served with peanut sauce and we added a side of tofu. We also ordered a steak sandwich with macaroni salad and two large 32 ounce drinks and a pineapple upside down cake When our order was ready we were given two 21 ounce drink cups and were told that was their large but the website had a large which was 32 ounces. But the person at the counter was okay just giving us the smaller size with no offer to correct the price difference. But it wasn't worth fighting We grabbed our ordered and headed out we made it to old Marie calendar's building and realize they didn't give us our macaroni salad. So we drove back and had to explain the salad was missing . They fixed it without incident. We didn't have a lot of time left of lunch so we just stayed in parking lot to eat our lunch It was okay we enjoyed the peanut sauce but really waba just feels like better quality like it taste like it's made fresh served fresh this was more like it was reheated but I could be wrong it just wasn't hot like a freshly made meal would be since we had to wait for it to be ready. Unfortunately it was not hot at all it was warm llike a meal reheated . although I did like having the zucchini and broccoli with the meal but the flavor wasn't amazing it was just okay. For the price being served fresh and hot is the minimum And then when we went to try the upside down cake it was wrapped in heavy duty plastic with instructions to microwave it for 45seconds and this would have been ok if that was disclosed that additional prep was needed in order to eat it so we couldn't try it at all till after work and once we got home and even then it's still in wrapper So to say the least are they struggling yes for sure and it may be because everyone's learning but this was the first impression and it was not a good one . I wouldn't try it again until maybe way later when they've worked out all the kinks But right now they definitely need some time. first impression was not good and food was just okay and if you have limited time for lunch choose a place that can handle the rush. But again place was empty so I'm not sure what the struggle was other than maybe new employees I'm not sure I do hope they improve it's nice having options in the area read more

My family and I came in for lunch at Fire Island Grill yesterday. Our total was a little over $62, and when my husband paid with $100, the cashier said she didn't have enough change (over $30). He had to leave to get change from Vons while our food sat waiting. By the time we got our food, it was cold. The food and music were good, but the customer service is lacking. Overall, the experience was disappointing, and we won't be returning. Update: Respectfully, the issue wasn't the $100 bill--it was how the situation was handled. The cashier even verified the bill with a marker, then told us there wasn't enough change. If you don't accept bills over $20, that needs to be clearly communicated upfront. Instead, we were told after ordering and had to leave to get change while our food got cold. With an empty restaurant, there should have been a better solution. While the food and music were good, the customer service fell short. read more

I received a call right away from Sarah, who informed me the chicken in the bowl I ordered was NOT gluten free, even though the sauce I selected was. I was excited to see a new food spot thats not a chain in Ventura. Went in for the first time with my girl. They were happy to explain that they make all their own sauces and even let us try each one. They were all very but the jerk sauce and spicy teriyaki were soooo good. My girl ended up getting the steak which was so tender and cooked perfectly. I got the chicken and pork. I enjoyed the food and the terrific friendly service. The only reason for the four is for cleanliness. The serving spoons are used and then kept in metal container I assume is filled with water. The problem is the spoons are all in the same container and are not washed between servings. I don't eat pork and the spoon used for pork in the same used for chicken, steak etc. I think this needs to be fixed. read more
