At noon on a Sunday we wanted breakfast and not lunch. Other options in town had long wait times so we decided to risk that this location would not have long wait times. At the end of our meal we were so glad that we chose this establishment. The last few times we've eaten at a Cracker Barrel, the quality of the food was really disappointing. So we made mental notes not to waste our time and money any more at a Cracker Barrel. After years of spurning this business, we decided to try it again. If you're new to Bardstown, welcome, I guess? Cracker Barrel can be incredible as long as the line isn't too long, all the cooks actually show up, and they've changed the grease recently. The atmosphere is basically the same as wherever you came from, so don't be frightened. And don't worry, this Cracker Barrel is definitely not woke. The real bonus? It serves alcohol, so you can easily spend an extra $50 on breakfast. If this isn't your spread, no hard feelings but feel free to head back to wherever you came from and find something better! read more

I have eaten at this location at least once a month for years.....and most recently ate there last night. We noticed the new menu when we arrived and it has some new items....but also some new prices, and like everywhere else they have gone up, which is understandable. It was just a shock to see that many of the dinners were $15-20+. I got a burger, which was overcooked and the biscuits were overcooked as well. One of our party got breakfast, which seems to always be the best choice and their's was good. Someone else got the "chicken noodle soup", but it looked very much like (and tasted just like) the chicken n' dumplins. The service was great, but the food was mediocre. read more

Once upon a time, I was a wide-eyed child, sitting in a wooden rocking chair, thinking Cracker Barrel was the pinnacle of fine southern dining. Fast-forward to adulthood, and now I'm sitting there wondering if my childhood taste buds were broken or if I just really liked food that didn't actively hurt me. Two stars. One goes to the gift shop, because I can still distract myself with oversized gummy snakes and quirky coffee mugs that say "Live, Laugh, Lard." The other star is awarded purely out of respect for the ancient tricycles and butter churns stapled to the walls like some kind of Appalachian museum on a budget. They serve no purpose except to distract you from the sadness on your plate. The portions? A comedy show in themselves. For the price, I expected at least a meal--what I got was the culinary equivalent of a passive-aggressive shrug. The food? Drier than a Baptist potluck during a drought. Flavorless, joyless, and somehow aggressively beige. I get now why the elderly love it--your taste buds just give up the will to live halfway through the biscuits. Service is a game of Russian roulette. Sometimes it's decent. Sometimes it's like they're daring you to complain. But the real kicker? Last time, my wife got sick from breakfast. I got sick from chicken tenders. That's two meals, two stomachs, one big red flag. Cross-contamination, anyone? Because if you're giving people food poisoning with two completely different meals, something in that kitchen is playing fast and loose with the food safety code. Cracker Barrel is 5 minutes away from us and we come here all the time and I can sincerely say that 8/10 times we get very good service and food. I don't understand why this place has a 2 star rating. When you look around this place is full of people. If this place was bad NOBODY would be here! Food is also good and service is friendly and accommodating along with a smile! I know sometimes bad service is received but that's every where you go. Now a days lots of these restaurants are lacking personnel and the few workers are working long hours and being overwhelmed with the public! Cracker Barrel is a standard place to go if looking for either breakfast or brunch. Depending on what day of the week you come, this can determine how busy it will be. This location has ample parking available. Like all Cracker Barrel's, there is a general store when you first walk in. Lots of trinkets and goodies to browse through. After arriving at the hostess stand, my party of 3 was promptly seated. For starters, service left little to the imagination. Our waitress appeared to be having a bad day and it showed. Most of the time it felt like we were bothering her. The menu appears to have changed slightly. Furthermore, they now offer alcoholic beverages. I settled on the French toast breakfast with a glass of OJ. Food was brought out within 15 min. Overall, meal was decent. Still don't understand why syrup is served In a glass bottle instead of heated up. Can't say I'll be back anytime soon, but overall it was okay! read more

Sitting outside of the kitchen for our meal, and a young lady inside is having a very loud conversation with coworkers complaining about some thing and using several curse words. I looked at her and shook my head, but she just smiled and laughed. Spoke to the manager and she took the gal aside to talk to her. When she came out, she kept staring at me. Class would've been for her to come out and apologize. I don't need to be having a meal while I am hearing, cursing from the kitchen. And to boot, when we left, she yelled from the kitchen "bye". I had the chicken and dumplings and there were far more dumplings than chicken. The gravy was good. My husband's steak was over seasoned and his hash brown casserole was mushy. We also had the carrots which were mushy, but had a good flavor. Coming at the beginning of dinner time, thought we would get fresher food. Ordered the hamburger steak meal and my partner had a vegetable plate. After our order was placed it took 30 minutes to get our food. The hamburger steak was overcooked to the point it was very difficult to cut and eat. The menu clearly stated it came with a garlic butter which never arrived even after I asked about it. The server never asked how I wanted the hamburger steak cooked. I would never order any beef well done but the kitchen took it upon itself to overcook the hamburger steak. The server seemed to purposely avoid us after the food was brought to the table. Overall a very disappointing experience. read more

Both front doors are open stepped in and got to the merch and got yelled and scolded by a worker that they were closed waving her finger like I was a 3 year old grabbing a cookie my Nana told me not to have. The food is always consistent and the problems that occur with it are due to a lack of kitchen help. Today we had to wait about 30 minutes fir our food. When I asked the waitress, she told me they only had two people in the kitchen during a Sunday lunch rush. Sad! I get it with the Covid situation, but here's where a change can happen-the management can get back there and cook or the wait staff can be cross trained to cook. The problem with chain restaurants is that many managers don't know how to cook the food. This needs to change. Instead of walking around talking to customers, he should be in the back helping the kitchen. A hostess or waitress could go around asking customers how they like their meals. Everyone at my table seemed to like their meal but I could tell that mine was under the heat lamp a little too long. You can tell that because when the plate came out the waitress could hardly touch it and my food was warm, not hot. You could tell by the color of the cheese and the texture it had been sitting a bit. We will be back, and I hope we can get back to normal where people want to work. read more

Well, I really just wanted to know what a "cracker barrel" was. Apparently, it's basically like the early "water cooler", where farmers and locals would lounge at the country store, swap stories and gossip, around the big cracker barrel. If some of you already knew that, well, bully for you. If not, well, now we're all better informed. This location in Bardstown recently opened near the Lowe's and across from the Walmart just off the Bluegrass Parkway. It seems a natural extension to the Bardstown atmosphere, relatively small Southern town with a welcoming populace, open to tourists, come on in and sit a spell. It's perfect in that regard and I'm surprised it took as long as it did to get a Cracker Barrel. It works and works well with its homespun, canned Southern charm. The locals have welcomed it heartily, because as with seemingly every Cracker Barrel in the nation, it doesn't lack for business. Maybe there is really something to the "crack" in Cracker Barrel. read more

Ok. A Cracker Barrel is a Cracker Barrel. Or at least it should be. Good predictably tasty food designed to fill you up while you're traveling. The difference makers are always management and service. Man is the Bardstown CB winning it with both, and particularly in awesome service. Our waitress had the best attitude and approach to customer service. We were there on a crazy busy day but she managed to make us feel special, attended to and catered to the food allergy at our table like it was no big deal. Highly recommend stopping here if you need/want/crave a good Cracker Barrel experience! read more

I normally love Cracker Barrel! We stopped at the one in Bardstown as we were making Christmas deliveries in the area. The service was great, but the food was "off." There was clearly something wrong with the rolls. They tasted odd to me, but I didn't say anything...I ate about a half of one with my sausage gravy but when my daughter tried to eat one, she said it was so bad she couldn't swallow it...it wasn't just me. Not sure what you can do to rolls but they tasted awful. I told the girls at the counter when we paid, and they informed the kitchen, but they did not offer any apologies or discount. I usually give places 2 and 3 chances when it comes to services. Unfortunately, this Cracker Barrel disappoints every time we have been here. We were a party of two and was informed it would be a 15 minutes wait, no problem we agreed to that wait time. It was only 10 minutes. We were seated and we placed our drink orders. Upon receiving our drinks we then ordered our food promptly. We watched two tables that came in 10 minutes after us with 4 in each party receive refills and their food before we did ours?l. When we FINALLY received our food it was barely warm and the corn bread muffins was cold and hard. We finally got a refill when we got our food. We waited 35 minutes before we got our food and any type of refills. That was the last time we seen our server until we ask for our ticket so we could leave. I am one who tips based upon your services provided. My husband didn't want to leave them any tip, I was gracious enough to leave 10%. read more

We are a table of 11, we understand it might be a while for food or drinks...so we aren't rushing you but you could use "please" and just have a smile and your tip would have been much better. Instead of "give me your cup" you can say "may I fill your glass?" Sounds waaay nicer. I hope the fact that our visit was on Father's Day evening was the explanation for our leas than ideal experience. To say the least they had plenty of catching up to do to clean up the place. The servers were less attentive than I'm used to at most CB restaurants. Our food wasn't the freshest or ideal temperatures. I don't usually give bad reviews unless it's some really disturbing issue or a repeat bad experience, and the latter is the case here. I generally love Cracker Barrel, but this has to be the worst store I've been to. A couple months ago I placed a curbside order, the server that answered the phone sounded like she could not be more annoyed that I was calling. When she brought the food out, she said, "Oh great, park where there's no room to walk." On another occasion, I ordered a Take and Bake meatloaf and hash brown casserole. When I got back home with it, it was a family portion of already prepared meatloaf instead, which is a significant price difference and not nearly the same thing. When I called back and spoke to a manager, he said that the store did not receive the Take and Bakes so they had to sub. Fine, but at least call me and tell me so and offer me a choice and alternative for the cost. He gave me a credit for another family portion meatloaf, requiring another trip at a later time, but that was fine. Another time, an order of corn was unseasoned and half beans, and the fried chicken was completely dry. Those are just a few things noticed. I think I've learned my lesson at this point. All things add up to a poorly managed restaurant, and makes you wonder what other unsavory things are going on that you don't see. As much as I enjoy a good experience at Cracker Barrel, I'm not going to get it at this location, and won't chance it again. read more

If you're driving into bardstown and see the cracked barrel sign, do yourself a favor and keep driving. Just like Colton's up the road, the food and service are terrible. Management is clearly oblivious, leaving two new hires on a 16 top. A number of orders were incorrect, cold and some not even prepared correctly (how can you mess up a salad?). Do not come here and expect what you would from other Cracker Barrels , because the only thing that would be served promptly, hot and fresh is disappointment. I did not pay for this meal. If I had, I probably would have been more upset at the outcome. As the meal was paid for by my mother, I was a little more judicious in my complaints. I still was not happy. For the most part, everything was fine. My wife and mother liked their burgers, my kids seemed happy with their food, but they were unable to get my order right, even after two tries. My wife and mother both ordered fish dishes, and they both let me try them, and they were good. However, I ordered a burger, and even though I ordered it done medium, they came out well-done both times. The second time, I just ate it and didn't say anything, just because I didn't want to cause a scene in front of my mother, as it was wrong twice, and I would have asked for a manager. Beyond my general unhappiness, the place was just a cracker barrel. Nothing spectacular, somewhat inexpensive, and very much the same as all the other Cracker Barrels. I'd much prefer a Denny's or even a Huddle House for a "get any meal at any time" kind of place. But it's go good variety, and the country store is pretty adorable. Placed an online order for delivery. They are using Door Dash for delivery. The food was supposed to be delivered at 6:22pm. Finally at 7:00pm I drive to the restaurant to pick it up myself. I recognize the restaurant isn't door dash but they are using a shady merchant to represent them. Food was ok, just cold. I'm really irritated by the tip that I can't get back for a driver that never showed up. Be careful if you order delivery from here. read more

This place is the worst I've ever been to. When it takes 20 minutes and you still have to ask for your drinks TWICE not to mention having ask again for a refill on the drinks after sitting with empty glasses for 15 minutes. Then wait 50 minutes and still there's no sign of food. Managers laughing in the corner instead of offering to help servers and servers ignoring you rather than doing their job. Our server was deliberately avoiding eye contact. We offered to pay for the drinks and they asked if we would wait 2 more minutes for our food, are you kidding?! After sitting for 30+ mins, our server said for 20+ mins, "You're up next!" ... then went on to deliver two other tables' goods. I spoke to a manager who apologized but did nothing to make it right. The food was acceptable-- nothing great, wasn't seasoned like normal and requests for condiments went unanswered. Server never checked back in after hastily dropping off the food.
