I am not from KY, and I deliberately picked this place because it was local and not a chain. So worth it. The waitress was super friendly and treated me like I was a regular. Within 30 seconds I had a good cup of coffee. I ordered pancakes and sausage. With a shout of "order up!"breakfast was served. The pancakes filled the entire plate and were fluffy and hot. You can't beat the hospitality of good ole Kentucky! We were on our way home from an epic weekend in the Bluegrass state, when decided to stop for a little breakfast. We knew what we wanted--Cracker Barrel type food but with a more authentic country flair. So Crystal's Country diner fit the bill ! We went inside and we were greeted from across the room which was almost packed for a couple of tables. The server told us to take a seat anywhere we could find--we did. It took a little before anyone could bring us a menu. But a young girl around 12-13 came by with a paper with a poem and gave me a flower and told me, "Happy Mother's Day!". It seemed everyone knew each other more or less and we were the obvious outsiders. The server arrived at our table and gave us menus and took our drink orders. He was friendly--not overly so--which was understandable since it was quite busy for Mother's Day. He brought our drinks, and took our orders. It was maybe ten minutes before our food arrived. Hubs and I split a biscuit with gravy, he had fried eggs and bacon and I had scrambled eggs and the most delicious sausage I have ever had! I shared my other piece with my husband--reluctantly. And he agreed and said his bacon was yummy as well. The owner, Crystal was visiting every table introducing herself and taking photos of the patrons for her Facebook page. When she came to our table, I had to tell her just how delicious that sausage was! She said, "We get our sausage from a place in Bardstown called Old Delaney's". We gasped in delight because we had just been there a half hour ago and purchased a three pound package of sausage we were hoping we would like. Three pounds seem like a hefty commitment, since they didn't offer anything smaller. We were so happy with that tidbit of information! Crystal took our picture and thanked us for coming in. For someone being there for the first time we had a pretty crummy experience. We pass by this place daily and finally checked out what the rave was about. This is a seat yourself kind of place (or it was for us that day). The seating is more cafeteria style. We sat right next to the kitchen and register. There was foul language in the kitchen that I'm sure the entire place heard very clearly almost the entire time we were there. Each plate that went out was microwaved. I was very concerned to see this as the cooks just cooked it in the back and then would microwave the food again? Weird. Do they not have a heat lamp? It was a light amount of people inside. It made me question the quality of the food and practices this place brings. I'm unsure if we will be back to give this place a 2nd try. Crystals country diner is a small throwback diner located in the "downtown" portion of mount Washington Kentucky just off north bars town road. My wife, my two youngest daughters and I arrived here on a Sunday morning around 1130ish. It had a pretty good crowd. We walk in and the decor is what you would expect from a small country diner. Lots of southern and farmhouse style decor. So very homie feeling. We had some confusion upon walking in as there was no hostess and no "please seat yourself" or "wait to be seated" signs. So we kinda looked around uncomfortably until when finally asked someone and found out it was seat yourself. Tables were sparse and the ones available weren't the cleanest so we snagged up an undersized but cleaner table. It took a few moments and our waitress finally gave us menus. I personally ordered a country ham and cheese omelette and a full order of biscuits and gravy to share with my wife. The country ham omelette was pretty good. Nice and tasteful flavor and the toast was great too. The biscuits and gravy were awesome. Very fluffy and the milk gravy had awesome smooth flavor. My wife got a western omelette with no peppers and she was a fan also. She wasn't big on there cheese flavor but said the egg was great. My youngest two shared an egg and they both appeared to like it. My second youngest loved the toast. So the customer service here was hit and miss. It was either top notch or just bad. I think maybe they were short staffed and trying there best though. It took forever to get our food. However they were great with my kids. My one year old got upset so they brought her crackers without asking and said let's feed her and apologized for the long wait. The establishment was covered in a thin smog of smoke. It was pretty bothering. They eventually opened a door and kept it propped open when we was leaving but they really should of done it much sooner. Overall it was a good experience. Food was good and the place was cozy. Pricing despite a sign warning about price raising wasn't bad. Just under $40 for 4 of us. So $10 a person essentially. I'd come back and try it again. My family and I just got done eating here at Crystals. Everything we had was delicious. The gravy was the best homemade gravy I've tasted in a long time. So so good! The chicken and dumplings were well seasoned, very savory and just melts in your mouth. The meatloaf tastes exactly like you'd hope a meatloaf would taste and was juicy. Went in on Christmas Eve, they closed at 12 and we showed up at 11:30. Figured 30 minutes was reasonable enough. When we got in the main waiter (he had a pony tail with blue hair) gave us a dirty look. We then stood in the doorway not knowing if we could seat ourselves or not. As we were standing there we heard the waiter aggressively say to another customer, "I'm about to close is what I'm about to do, they came in late." He was clearly talking about us, when in fact we were not late. There was 30 min until close. If the restaurant was empty this would've been more understandable, but it was still full and there was even someone who came in after us. We then stood in the doorway for another minute before he reluctantly barked "seat yourself". We ended up just leaving. Not the kind of hospitality you'd expect from a small country diner. I really would like to give this place a poor rating, but the quality the food was so good and the waitress was very diligent that I can't. I have very mixed feelings about this whole transaction. To begin with not their fault, but previous menus and prices are terribly outdated. All the prices are now almost double if not higher. I will be posting photos of the new menu although they may be a little hard to read because of glare I couldn't get rid of. There was also a big misunderstanding on my part. I did not realize that you could not put french fries or tots on the special. It has to be the vegetables or sides that are listed on the special board to get them as part of the special so she said I got two sides, but I didn't understand that I would be charged separately an extra for the fries and tater tots The potato products are the cheapest items on the menu so I did not realize they would not be included with the deal. I later got them to give me two of the sides that count to make up for the difference. I was not expecting to pay with tip over $50 for two people at a casual diner. one more bad thing before I get to the good she did say that her coleslaw was the worst she ever had anywhere. She said the slaw is basically carrots cabbage and mayonnaise with no real sweet or any other seasoning or anything to make it flavorful Now for the good stuff almost everything I had was top quality and tasted very nice to begin with the mac & cheese was at least above average and did have cheese flavor. I'd give it a B. The evil tots were pretty tasty and her fries looked fine as well. The fish was one huge piece for both of us while we each got one large piece for our dinner and the batter had good flavor. She was a little upset at crunchy batter, but it didn't bother me. Lots of flaky fish. The biscuit I had was one of the best I've had ever, it had delicate flavor you could see the layers. It was a little chewy, but not hard just extremely satisfying for a biscuit and it came with real butter and they had apple butter packets on the table. Her cornbread was perfectly bounced. There was lots of it they have Pepsi product sadly, but as many restaurants anymore, they do have big red so I wasn't completely, put out by that I find it funny that my big red came in a Coca-Cola cup when their menu says they proudly serve Pepsi. They had good Heinz ketchup no generic House brand or anything. Major props to the waitress she was taking care of eight tables, taking payments and still found time to help an old man get up and get out to his car. She kept the drinks. She was very efficient. Everybody's orders seem to be correct it was very good work for being so busy, the decor is nice it very much felt like somewhere. I lived very homey clean bathroom although you do kind of have to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom that's always a little problematic, but it wasn't too bad. I do feel that it is overpriced, but there is quality there, so if you have good teeth to crunch the fish and a decent job to pay the bill, I would highly recommend this place read more

While we have bought carry-out from Crystal's, on Friday nights, during the pandemic, we had never eaten inside before. (This might be a good time to mention that we really, REALLY, like her fish on Fridays; Hubby is a catfish aficionado, while I am happy with cod. She offers both.) Today, Hubby and I ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. They were absolutely delicious and so hot that we had to blow on them to cool them down. This is an superb dish that could be the center of a gourmet menu with a unique dip or dressing such as a roasted red pepper balsamic reduction or even pico de gallo. Even if one ignores the ranch dressing served with them, the fried green tomatoes were outstanding all alone! I decided to try one of the specials of the day: fried liver and onions. Unfortunately the liver was a little thick & chewy, and there weren't quite enough onions served to suit me. The mashed potatoes that came with it were every bit as good as one expects in a country diner, and I had specifically requested they be generous with the gravy, and they were. Hubby opted for a late breakfast: a western omelette, whole wheat toast and jelly, and baked apples. He thought they were all outstanding. We both brought two separate desserts home with us, because there was certainly no way we could eat another bite at that time after the plentiful portions we had already eaten. This way, we each have dessert today and another for tomorrow. All of the deserts are Amish baked. If the sugar pie that I have already eaten is any indication, the desserts are fantastic! There were only a few people eating when we arrived, & more came in before we left, but they were all seated with plenty of distance except one group that was obviously together. Crystals is just a small diner in a little strip mall in Mount Washington Kentucky, but there's a lot more room inside than I suspected. The service was outstanding even though only one young woman was handling all the tables and to go orders. As the crowd began to come in, I noticed there were a couple of others who began to help her. The prices were reasonable. We will certainly eat there again, & I suggest you do, too! read more

I'm all about new or under new management business in my home town. When I heard that the Country Diner has new owners I was skeptical at first. First I began reminiscing in my childhood days of my Dad taking me here for breakfast. As an adult I can say I haven't eaten here at all. What I hated about the place was that they allowed smoking inside and EVERYONE smoked. You couldn't get in and out quick enough without coughing up half a lung. UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT!!!!! First order of business, NO SMOKING!!!!! I'm confident they just won about half the town over with this. The food, wow! Country home cooking at its finest. Breakfast served all day and trust me, you'll want breakfast! Eggs cooked to perfection, biscuits with sausage gravy that makes my mom's gravy taste like it's from a 7/11 gas station. Pancakes, you wont be able to finish them. I've eaten here twice so far and have been blown away by the down home country food. The negatives; they're staying open while they renovate so don't be disturbed seeing a chop saw sitting by the front door. They need the renovation bad! The ceiling tiles are caked with years old cigarette smoke and it shows bad. Not to worry, the new owners are promising it to all be fixed and a slightly different layout. Don't come here if you're in a hurry! There's only one cook who cooks everything fresh, one order at a time. It's going to be take a bit longer than most commercial places but trust me, the food will make up for that! Seating is limited. The two times I've been her I've been lucky to have gotten to only table open. Bring cash! They said they're in the process of getting a card reader but both times it has been cash or check. First things first. This is NOT a smoke free establishment so if that bothers you, you will not enjoy dining here. With that said it's definitely not kid friendly. I am a sucker for small MA & PA country diners and this is exactly that. It is a small diner, so you walk in and you can see the flat grill and smell all the goodness. The interior isn't pretty, it's dated and filled with old yellow paint and country pictures such as horses and John Wayne. The service is incredible. Classic southern hospitality, the owner works her butt off but cares about you like she's known you for ages. The food; well this is something else, it is good ol' country comfort foods. For $3.75 I got a ginormous portion of biscuits and gravy. This was delicious and had chunky bites of sausage. The veggie omelette was also out of this world, it comes with fried potatoes on the side. I'm definitely coming back, with tip I spent $13 and got all 3 meals for the day. read more

Beautiful Place! Due to being busy, the Service was fast and I only had to wait 10 minutes for my food. The place before was a dump people smoked and it was all nasty. I was looking for some good, country cooking on my way home from the airport, and found Country Diner on Yelp. With only one review I was a bit skeptical, but I decided to try it anyway. The atmosphere was very country, which is fitting. This is not a smoke free establishment, and several people were smoking. The waitress did not move quickly, but was friendly and spoke to me like she had known me for years. I ordered the Western Omelet which came with home fries (fried potatoes) and a biscuit. I added a side of salsa and a side of gravy for my biscuit. The food was good, especially the omelet. The biscuit was not from scratch, and the potatoes were fair. I would go back if I were ever in this neck of the woods, but I would not go out of my way for it. read more
