Visited MiMi's for Burger Week and enjoyed some truly authentic southern cooking - think Sunday church potluck or a localized (and more flavorful) Cracker Barrel. Mi'Mi's is a walk-in, counter order restaurant located in a strip mall. There is plenty of seating after you order, including room to pull together tables for a large party. The decor is pretty basic, but is clean; honestly, even accounting for that for what you pay it's more than adequate. The price point here is amazing for the quality - it would cost more to feed my family of four at Chick-fil-a! I don't think the staff was equipped to deal with the burger week crowd, and people were complaining about the wait. It took 45 minutes for us to get our food (from time stamp on receipt to food on table). That being said, for a kitchen of 3 people and considering they cooked to order, I'm not too unhappy about the wait. The food: we tried both burgers and cut each into fourths, and also ordered green beans and mashed potatoes. Everything was incredible! Our favorite was the Mac and cheese burger - the Mac was that creamy potluck with some burnt cheesy crust that I just can't make at home. The pickled jalepenos and bacon added heat and crunch, and the bacon was perfectly thick and crispy. The waffle burger was also great and really structured well - while the Mac and cheese was definitely messy, the waffle burger held up to the handheld test. Very creative and our teens love it. I'm going to call out the green beans as the best I've had in Lexington - probably not vegetarian but so juicy and yummy! Our family engaged in the 'great kool-aid debate' - the jugs of koolaid were a great treat, super sweet though. This place was absolutely on point. The menu changes daily so today they had ribs, chicken gravy and dressing, fried chicken, greens, green beans, Mac n cheese, sweet potatoes, and dressing. Fried cornbread comes with the plate. Banana pudding for dessert. The staff are all warm and welcoming! Can't ask for a better place to eat a good homestyle meal and be able to sit and enjoy it. I'm so sorry for this review, but it is the truth!! On Sunday October the 19th.at approximately 5:15 pm, I went to Mi Mi's for the first time!! I had been told several times, the food was not good, but I finally decided to try it for myself, as I did not feel like cooking! not feel like cooking! I ordered the chicken and dressing, greens (kale), and mac and cheese. The chicken was average, roasted ok, not seasoned much, the dressing was really bad, it was the consistency and look of, something that comes up, when one has upchucked, the only taste was salt and celery salt. The greens were flavorless a little tough and needed to be cooked a bit longer. the mac and cheese, was mushy with cheese on top but void of very little real cheese taste. I had to wait, 10 minutes for the corn cakes, that come with your meal. they appeared to be from a box, a little sweet, but not bad tasting and was the only thing that tasted ok. They have a nice little dining room, to the left of the counter entrance area, it was completely empty on a Sunday. While the types of foods, offered as soul food, were there, this was not soul food. SOUL FOOD IS SEASONED WELL (not salty), TASTY AND MADE WITH LOVE!! This is a truthful review I am giving, with hopes the owners will take it to heart and do better with the quality and taste of the food. I will say, your staff, all were friendly!!! Best soul food I've had in a while. Great takeout spot. Mimis is a sort of cafeteria experience during the covid times. Much like a Chipotle or Subway, you order at one end of the counter, watch them load up your container, and pay at the other. They had pork tenderloin, meatloaf, and fried chicken for the main items. The sides were the Mac n cheese, greens, potatoes au gratin, and something else that escapes me at the moment. To drink they have standard fountain drinks, along with koolaid. The meatloaf was amazing, and better than any I have had in a long time. I was already set on ordering it, but while in line, everyone around me could not stop talking about how good it was. It did not disappoint. The greens were cooked to perfection as well. Big, leafy pieces with a perfect amount of wetness. The Mac and cheese was pretty standard, but wonderful. Absolutely no complaints with the food at all. I'd come back in a heart beat. The service was ideal. I was greeted as I walked in, and helped along the way through the ordering process. There was a bit of a line, but I know why after eating the food. The prices were great. About $13 for a meal and a drink. My friends tried the fish and fried chicken along with broccoli casserole and they loved their meals! Oh, all meals came with complimentary cornbread. Roughly, we paid $11 each for the lunch with a drink. For dessert, we shared a strawberry cake which was divine! The icing was wayyyyy too sweet but underneath the strawberry cake was yummy! So why 3 stars? Well.. their drink fountain was a bust! Gave foul flavored gas-less soda, which they were sweet enough to take back n replace with water bottles. They were so busy that they forgot to bring my cornbread to the table. There were only 2-3 ppl behind the counter, which I think is something they need to rectify especially at peak times. I usually get the fried pork chops (you get two big ones), perfectly seasoned greens, and yummy Mac and cheese. It comes with cornbread perfect for dunking in the pot liquor from the greens. Got fries, mac n cheese, and their au gratin potatoes as sides. Note the chicken and waffles does not come with a side.
