Decor on the lattice wall near fireplace (very! dusty)
    Bettie M.

Was given gift cards so thought we'd give them another try. Food was ok but not amazing. It makes me sad because they used to be a go to for us for so many years. Their quality has dropped so much. Portion size, seasoning, style. It's all changed. I got the Friday fish special which was 4 pieces of cod and 2 sides. I chose a side salad (pretty sure it's no longer homemade ranch) and dumplings. The fish pieces were so tiny and thin I just stared for a bit. Very crunchy fry, but not much to the fish portion, and for $16, I expected better. My sister chose the shepherds pie pot roast and it was fantastic! If we go back for dinner, that will be a go for me. Seasoned well, good sized portion, meat was tender. Now on to the location itself. They haven't changed the decor much and I am 100%ok with that. Love that about Cracker Barrel. It's the way it should be, but I was also sat next to the lattice wall and the amount of dust next to my face was a bit disturbing. Tried to get a picture but it was hard to really show it properly . The waitress was really good, at first. After she took our order she just kind of forgot about us. I never got a refill on my tea and was sucking ice by the end of my meal. It was obvious it was empty the several times she walked by but she never offered to refill it. Yes, I should have flagged her down, but by this point, I just wanted to go. Overall, some good points some bad. Definitely room for improving. Oh and when I went to pay I put what I want for a tip (15%- due to service issue) and it asked not 1 or 2 times if I was sure that was all I wanted to leave but 4 times. Yes 4 times it asked if I was sure I didn't want to add more to the tip.

Whenever we're in the South, we like to go to Cracker Barrel for the country home-cooked style food. Because we went near closing time, there wasn't enough chicken & dumplings for us to order. I had the lemon pepper grilled rainbow trout, which had an adequate amount of lemon zing but was a bit dry for my liking. The strawberry lemonade was a hit across the board for our table. The wait staff were nice as they scrambled to serve us and close out the other tables. The lesson of the day was to go at least an hour before closing.

Service and server was great. She told us how to get the free app, and was very sweet. But the food came out undercooked... we also had to wait quite some time for the food to come out. Best thing we ate was the hasbrown app. Steak was ordered was medium rare, but it came out quite rare even on the outside of the steak. The peach cobbler also came out looking quite different from the photos. It was basically just syrup, a small scoop of vanilla ice cream, and canned peaches....

Visited on a Sunday at 9:30a so needless to say it was busy. There was A pretty lengthy wait to be seated and once we ordered there was an add'l 30-40 min wait. Despite that it was worth it. Customer service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. And it's always fun to browse the country store while you wait.

Food was ok. Service was mediocre at next. Cracker Barrel as a whole isn't as good as it used to be.

Also, this is a beautifully designed restaurant with a beautiful bar and lots of outdoor rooftop dining. Our window front table view was great. Our server, Brandy puts a solid "E for effort" into her job. She energetically described all of the menu options and seemed to really like her job. I ordered the steak frites. The fries were fine, and the seasoning improved their lukewarm temperature. The steak however, medium rare, was overcooked and was cool. Inedible. The manager kindly offered to redo it, but I didn't want to make my husband wait on his meal or to eat alone after my corrected meal came back. My husband ordered a steak, a side of mushrooms and a side of mashed potatoes. The steak was "fine", the mushrooms okay, and the potatoes COLD. (The manager did bring him new mashed potatoes). The manager kindly said he was going to comp our entire meal after taking the cold items back and agreeing they were indeed cold when he felt them in the kitchen. To be clear, we weren't there for a free meal. We were there for an upscale dining experience, with food that justifies the prices. We had seen on yelp, the chocolate cake, my husband's favorite. He wanted that to go so we figured what we assumed would be a descent tip, plus $20 for the $18 cake to go (so $70 cash). The server, Brandy said, after accepting the cash, I can't comp you the cake (she'd already offered me comped desert while my husband ate which I refused). I said, I get that, I just handed you $50 for tip plus $20 for the cake $18 cake. Then, the manager stopped back by to check on us and she brought the cake (with a box of rolls? No thanks!). I'm stunned by how the conversation with the 4 of us transpired. I feel as if the kind manager was misled by the server regarding what had taken place with us earlier. The conversation ended with her putting the $50 bill on our table and leaving, which obviously was not at all what we intended. I honestly, along with the manager, wanted the situation to end as kindly as possible. All of this to say, I saw 2 other tables send their food back. This issue is in no way the servers fault, and definitely not the fault of the front of the house manager. This is a kitchen issue that should definitely be addressed.
