Cracker Barrel is a consistent stop for us as they tolerate the RVers parking in their lot overnight. Dyersburg was to be our last stop for the day as we popped here for dinner along the drive back east. The restaurant is located right off the Interstate and we had no problem with a space in the corner so that we wouldn't be disturbed. Inside, we were greeted and brought to a table in the corner. Our waitress took the order and then... we waited. My wife actually got to the point of "Okay, if it's not here in 5 more minutes then we go." And the dinner arrived right on the time. We had waited 25 minutes from ordering to eating. Not great. The food was good. Baked trout for my wife and the fried turkey dinner for me. Hey, it's Thanksgiving weekend and I'm not yet turkeyed out. Sadly, they did not put the cranberry relish on the plate which was a clear miss. I received exceptional service today. My server was Toyia and she was fantastic. I wanted an unconventional combination of breakfast items and she made it happen! My water and coffee were always full (not usual for this location) and my food was exactly right. The server tending to the table next to mine (I did not catch her name) was incredible with her table. Very sweet and attentive. Another server at one point had walked by my table and offered to refill my barely drank water which I much appreciated as well. I also noticed the manager on the floor interacting with guests. I have always enjoyed eating at Cracker Barrel when I am in the mood for some good ole comfort food. I usually always order their chicken and dumplings but tonight they were out and I ordered the fried shrimp. We also ordered biscuits and cornbread and they were out of biscuits so we just ate the cold cornbread, it was ok. My shrimp was just okay, I would not order it again because I thought it had too much breading. My baked potato was hard as a brick bat but our server replaced the potato with a cooked one. lol The service was very slow but our server was sweet and tried her best hopefully. I can't imagine the humiliation of managing this disaster of a restaurant. Sure, they were busy, but come on--it's not like it was the Super Bowl. There were just two of us. We place our order, and 23 minutes later (yes, twenty-three), someone casually strolls over to inform us that what we ordered isn't even available. Stellar start. At the 40-minute mark, the biscuits and cornbread finally arrive--sans butter, of course. It then took two waitresses (and what felt like an expedition to Narnia) to locate some butter. By the time the food showed up, 50 minutes had passed. But wait--it gets better! One plate arrived incomplete, missing its protein entirely, while the meatloaf on the other plate was raw in the middle. RAW. That person just gave up and didn't eat. Honestly, I don't blame them. We got there 2 hours before closing. There were multiple items not available including the meat loaf, the dressing that was suppose to go with the Thursday special Turkey dinner and the white gravy. But we had other ideas so that wasn't enough to ruin our dinner. But still, it was clear they were painfully understaffed and we were told the Manager had been out for a week. Clearly the cat was away so the mice were at play as the wait was quite long. But the real problem was that the restaurant was bone cold. And this was after dark when the outside temp was 71*. I enjoy that cold but it was even too much for me. My partner is in blood thinners and even with her coat she was freezing. The server agreed it was too cold. She said other customers had already complained but the kitchen staff was so hot they refused to turn down the AC. And that was what we were told by the server! We tried to stick it out at first but once we knew they weren't going to moderate the temp we had to cancel the dinner and walk out. I'm 60 years old and I have never been in a restaurant that was this cold. My hands and feet were really feeling it as the cold air from the AC was unrelenting. To me, it's inexcusable to do that to your customers. I can sympathize with the cooking staff and maybe it was intolerable for them as well so maybe it was managements fault for not having a better system. I can't say either way but it doesn't matter. The manager forced someone with clCovid-19 to continue working, called him lazy, subsequently infecting a dozen employees, and countless customers l. That manager deserves to be fired and prosecuted. If you like cold food, I recommend this is your place! Ordered hash brown casserole and pintos beans as sides and the hash brown seemed like it was under the heat lamp too long bc the top was crunchy enough to break teeth and sent back my pintos twice bc it was cold. Previous experiences with long waits for seating and bad service at this location have caused my wife and I to find other dining alternatives while visiting Dyersburg, but we thought it wouldn't be busy at 4:30 pm on a rainy Saturday in January. Wrong. At least twenty people were wandering around the gift shop while waiting for a table -- or, more accurately, waiting to wait for a table, since the hostess stand was vacant. A glance at the dining room -- confirmed by a look through the windows as we left rather than wait -- showed that less than one-third of the tables were occupied. We are seated at a table that wasn't even cleaned properly, condiments and butter was left on the table, not okay during COVID... Other couples were seated after us and they were all waited on with both drinks and food order taken before we were ever even approached. We went here to try their breakfast after our beloved Perkin's closed. The food and service were both horrible. My apple juice tasted sour and when I made a comment about it, my mom asked me to taste her OJ. She totally won that contest. I don't believe I've ever tasted such sour OJ. The food was nasty and tasted if it had all been cooked in the same rancid grease. How they got the same awful taste to every item we tried is baffling. After receiving gifts cards for this restaurant, we decided to make the 45 mile drive to have supper as it was our 35th wedding anniversary. Cracker barrel is what it is. The physical property at this location was VERY clean. The menu is seldom changing. But, the service at this location is lacking...and that can put anything positive right out the window. Too much chit chatting between the servers and managers as customers attempted to get their attention. Went in at 7:30 a.m. today and not a soul in the restaurant. Including wait staff. Had to wander back to the kitchen to find someone to seat me. Ordered my usual CB standby breakfast - Old Timer's. Obviously, they had not had enough business that morning to finish off the left overs from the night before. Hashbrown casserole was a lump of dried potatoes. Biscuits were dried out hockey pucks. The one thing that was good, and doesn't happen too often, is that my over medium eggs actually arrived as over medium.
