I have always loved this place for years..,.until it wasn't crowded, so they were able to seat us immediately. That being said, just because I'm in a wheelchair, they chose to seat us in the most HATED place in the restaurant at the entrance. I wanted to see the fire. Our waiter was so overtrained, obviously, that he came by our table every 3 minutes. In-between apologizing, asking if we need everything,casual talking, collecting and inquiring. Should me or my son slip him our number? Honestly, enough is enough!! I'm only going to guess he was new. Obviously their manager doesn't think twice about annoying guests as he DRAGS chairs across their cobbled floor, like fingernails on a chalkboard. As one of my favorite restaurants, I love coming here on the holidays. Today the food was subpar. I ordered the sampler plate, one of my regular favs. The meatloaf was disgusting, the ham so fatty, it was inedible, the hash brown casserole was half frozen and the sweet potato casserole (which I was craving) was Not edible. One bite and I had to end my meal. My question is....WHAT HAPPENED?? My favorite restaurant. I'm in a wheelchair and I used to cruise through the store and have spent an easy $300 there alone. I couldn't make it through the store. My son had to keep rescuing me. I'm really not a bitch, but I was so frustrated. Came here twice while visiting Grandma in Chatham. First time at the beginning of the week, we were sat promptly, food was ordered and at our table within 10 minutes. Came back today before our flight (we figured two hours was enough time to eat and get to Springfield Airport), sat, ordered, and waited for one hour. When we inquired about our food, the hostess (server never came back to the table) said "it's coming out right now". Another person came to refill our drinks. Our server was looking at us from the kitchen area. It was very obvious, he forgot to put our ticket in. He comes by our table and says "it's on it's way now". Five minutes later we finally ask the manager. He apologized and said it's on it's way. Look, it's Saturday morning, if you have a new person, please have a veteran server shadow the newbies. We took my momma here for lunch today in honor of my Daddys 1st Heavenly Birthday. We waited 40 minutes until a table was available. I'm very disappointed in our service that we received but thankful that my Momma didn't really noticed because we wanted to make the best of today for us. Our server wouldn't let my momma substitute the fried chicken for shrimp on the pick two, even though we we're willing to pay an upcharge for it. But we still made sure she got exactly what she wanted. Our sever also wouldn't let my husband have all white meat as his chicken dinner- it was white and dark meat. I ordered the Grandma's pancakes and I requested blueberry syrup. I know he understood me because he said it was good and had little pieces of blueberries in it. He asked if we wanted cornbread or rolls or both. We asked for both. About an hour after we were seated we finally got our meals and the cornbread and rolls at the same time. My husband asked why we didn't get the bread while we were waiting and our waiter said that's just how they do it. I had to ask for my syrup and he returned with plain syrup. By now my husband and I are silently becoming upset. My husband flagged down our waiter for my blueberry syrup but by the time he came back with it my pancakes were cold. The food was good but wasn't worth starving to receive poor service on a special occasion. It appears to me that the quality of food and customer service has declined at this location over the past year or so. I'm used to there being a waiting time to be seated. This recent experience dining at Cracker Barrel, not only did we have to wait to be seated, but it took a very long time for a waiter/waitress to even take our drink order. It took even longer for the waiter to take our food order. Then we had to wait an extraordinary amount of time for our order to arrive. The waiter was slow and forgot to bring us a to go box. Calling is worthless because after being on hold for 12 minutes with no answer I called back and was switched to a line that requested an access code???? My husband and I stopped at Cracker Barrel in Springfield, IL around 6:30 pm on Sept. 15th and were shown to our table. After waiting for approximately 10 minutes for someone to come take our drink order, which no one ever did, I set the timer on my phone and waited for another five minutes and which point we just got up and left. This store used to be a flagship store for the area that had great leadership and low ticket times. I know this because I worked here through college as a Host. In fact, if you look behind the sign hanging from the Host/Hostess stand there is a smiley face on the back of it. My buddy who worked there with me put it there because he was literally 6'10". Anyways, management has apparently turned over several times since I left and went onto my perspective career field. None the restaurant managers I worked for remain. That's not a good sign. Good quality has tanked some and all of the employees have turned over. All of the lifer servers in the morning have quit too. (Also a bad sign) However, they seem to be improving some. The chicken fried chicken is amazing and it's an easy one to get that's always good. It's two boneless, white meat chicken breasts with sides. They seem to be horrible at making mashed potatoes now though, so avoid those. Ticket times run around 20 minutes. The standard when I worked here in the early 2010's was 10 minutes. read more

I got food poisoning from the roast , I shouldn't have eaten anything once I opened the tin foil, the corn look days old so I tossed it to the side I ate part of the roast and it was very dry and the carrots , I have been in pain ever since. The corn was so bad that the manager brought me a new ear of corn and I didnt even ask for it , I also tried the baked beans , I took one bite and sent those back , baked beans shouldn't be crunchy, all in all i wouldn't eat there ever again read more

It was a great experience and I wouldn't find hitting this location up again when visiting either Springfield or St. Louis! Fun to eat at Cracker Barrel, as this is definitely a "road trip" destination (good home cooking), as we don't have any in the Chicago area or surrounding suburbs. I had never tried a CB before and many of my friends rave about it. Well...I am not raving. Our waitress was almost nonexistent. She took our order. Then she came back with our order, which was wrong. She had totally forgotten about our salads. Half way through our meal we got our salads. Forgot gravy on the potatoes, 3/4 of the way through our meal we got the gravy. Never saw her again until it was time for the bill and we had to wait for that. The food was substandard. The corn muffins were as dry as the Mojave Desert. The grave was as thick as paste. The only good thing was the Mac and Cheese. If this is an example of a CB I will never be back to one. Made a curbside order at 7:07, and called in shortly after. After waiting for our food for 30-40 min, we went inside. They claimed they had no idea what happened to it, must've gave it to someone else, and more excuses. They were unapologetic and said they were now going to start from scratch. I had a pickup order (trying to do my part to help and not eat indoors) that told me my order would be ready at 5:35. I arrived and phoned in to tell them I was there. It was one of those calls where you know you should just turn around and go home, but I had already paid online (with tip). Food wasn't ready. When I asked how long the response was "I don't know". After 25 minutes of waiting I went inside and asked for manager and was told "he is cooking your food so if we get him it will take even longer. Hahaha". My first time to this location. I think everyone in our party had good food. I strayed from my usual (country fried steak) and got the Sunday special homestyle chicken on the recommendation from the waiter. It was over done, the breading very dark, almost burnt. The chicken was good, breading pretty bad. Another in our party had basically a smaller version of the same thing, and it was great. When we got there we were told it was a 15 minute wait. That's ok but over half of the tables were empty and just not cleaned. I ordered pancakes with wild berries on it and my order came and the outside was charcoal and the inside was complete batter. I kept digging and digging to find an okay part. Sadly I had to scrap the pancakes all together. I ordered shrimp and it was delicious. The pancakes were a half a star and the shrimp with has brown casserole was a five out of five.
