It is a fantastic early fall drive, and the farmland north of I-70 is inviting. The ancient village of Germantown is calling as is the ancient Florentine Pub. The ancient bar in this ancient pub is remarkable. The long string of owners over the past 60 years have done nothing to improve or update the property, and it seems much as it was 60 years ago. In the past the Florentine provide a great Sunday Buffet, which has been downgraded to a Sunday Brunch. Today we have interest in the Beer-Battered Fish Platter - two generous tavern-style fillets, beer battered and fried golden. served with coleslaw and a side. First I ascertain that the fish is Not tilapia - never order tilapia. - Fish is cod; frozen, but a nice meal. I elect a baked potato (leftover from last night,) but fine. The star of the meal is fresh green salad. Paula is the all in one hostess, server, and cashier. Paula is wonderful and a 5 0f 5. We are thinking that the floor requires a refinishing, and the restaurant would profit from a deep cleaning. All in all, a neat nostalgic visit to 1966. We recommend

Absolutely turned my stomach when it came. I also ordered a loaded baked potato and what came out was something I'd be embarrassed to serve. My friend ordered the scramble bowl. It had sausage in it, but sausage wasn't listed on the menu. Thankfully she wasn't allergic to pork. All that, and we waited 40 minutes for our food to come out. My husband did enjoy his pancakes.

Very, very clean. There was ideal background music, 60s-80s familiar tunes. Just loud enough to hear and enjoy. Bonus points, I did not notice any TV screens. We had two classic brunch dishes. The French Toast was amazing, thick, eggy, just enough cinnamon. The fresh fruit on top was a welcome surprise. My husband loved the Benedict, halfway through he mixed his hash browns in with the runny yolks and took it to a whole new level. There are some nice options offered on the breakfast/brunch menu. Coffee was decent and refills offered. We both cleaned our plates. I think our waitress was Kelly, not positive of the name. Dark hair. She was great, very real, like a small town diner waitress oughta be. Knew the menu and what to recommend. Just the right amount of conversation. We had gone to early Sunday Mass in Lebanon, driving back towards Eaton, and I had no less than four brunch possibilities lined up, all of which failed for one reason or another. It was karma because we were meant to end up at Alleyway Cafe. So glad we did and I highly recommend this spot for brunch!

OK, let me start my review by saying I am a highly biased resident of Miamisburg Ohio. I grew up on…read morethese burgers and I really enjoy them. Let's start with the general idea. It's a wagon that sells hamburgers. The hamburgers are obviously not all hamburger, and have some sausage in them. I'm a big fan of this. In the recent years, they have started to cook them a little bit more crispy. One of the keys is to order them soft if this is a problem for you I don't really have a problem with the crunch. Also, it's just a fun line where a lot of the people are just very nice people. It always tends to be a nice group working in the wagon and I appreciate their hard work. It's cool to be in the middle of our city and possibly get identified by a passing car. Salt, pepper, pickle, onion. I'm going to let out the truth that may get me thrown out of the Miamisburg club, I take the pickle and onion off. Although, if you order them without it, they never seem to taste right. The Chips, water, and assorted pops are available as well. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.

Despite the extra toppings it is very yummy and didn't need more in my opinion. I would recommend getting more than one just based on the size. A single burger runs for $1.50!

The Friday fish was not good and wouldn't get ever again. But the Wednesday chicken and dumplings was awful. Even my husband wouldn't eat it and he was in the army and not a picky eater. For one thing it was supposed to be dumplings and it was like they tossed a hard biscuit in the overly salty mess. We would ever get either again. Sorry these specials are a big fat NO.

There is also a second room with several low tip tables that would be good for groups, along with a pool table AND a pinball machine. I really wanted to play but the machine was very close to an occupied table and I felt it would be awkward. I will scope it out next visit. The barmaid was very kind, funny and very friendly to newcomers. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich + lettuce and tomato and unfortunately it arrived on untoasted bread which made it soggy. I spoke up and she agreed the cook blew it and had it remade in a jiffy. The chicken salad has grapes and chopped nuts...like a Waldorf salad and it was amazingly delicious. Way beyond what you'd expect for "bar food." My husband had the grilled chicken dinner and said the chicken breast was just ok but he was very happy with the baked potato and the salad. I shall return.
