Crafthouse North is an interesting blend of sushi and classic bar food, nestled in a clean, modern facility in Mt. Pleasant. With a laid-back order-at-the-counter setup and a welcoming atmosphere, it offers a casual dining experience with both indoor seating and a covered outdoor patio--complete with a large TV, making it a solid spot for a low-key meal or game night. We sampled the pretzel-wrapped hotdog and the Love Boat for Two, which came with edamame and seaweed salad. The hotdog had good flavor, but unfortunately tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave--disappointing for something that could have been great fresh. The edamame was a bigger letdown: overcooked to the point of being mushy and hard to eat, with torn skins making it a struggle to enjoy. Thankfully, the sushi in the Love Boat was solid--fresh, well-prepared, and satisfying. The seaweed salad was also tasty and balanced out the experience. Service was friendly, though be aware that only one staff member was trained to take orders when we visited. This caused a bit of a wait at the counter, even with just a few people ahead of us. Since there's no table service, tipping expectations may feel different here, which might be a consideration for some. Overall, Crafthouse North has potential and a few bright spots--particularly the sushi and the space itself--but some menu consistency and operational tweaks would take it up a notch. We had a good time at Crafthouse North. On Thursday we played music bingo for the first time. It's was definitely hard to eat and listen to music at the same time but we made the best of it. I gotta say, the steam bun was a nice surprise. It had a nice crunch from the cucumber but the sweet marinade it was coated with was amazing. The sushi had a good consistency and the yakitori was a perfect portion. The service at the Crafthouse was great as all the bartenders were very attentive. A needed bar in north Mount pleasant. Seat yourself with menus on the table. Order at the bar and food will be brought out to you. 3 drink size options for tap beer. Unique beers on tap and a fridge with other things (I saw Nowadays in there if that's your thing). Chips had old bay flavor which was a nice surprise and the truffle popcorn was absolutely delicious. Overall this is a strange business model in my family's opinion. For such a prime location by the high school and neighborhood, the interior is VERY small, which made it quite cramped to be seated inside. Ordering at the register means we had to wait in a long line every time we wanted a drink, and the line backed up into peoples' tables which made us feel like we were in the way and was uncomfortable for us when seated there. It was so busy that there wasn't room outside, and even if there was, I don't get the idea of combining beautiful sushi platters with craft beer and screaming kids running around. When tables are so limited, staff shouldn't be visibly on their phones when there are several dirty tables. We were served our sushi with no utensils and it was hard to get their attention. The sushi is good and is plated very nicely, but is slightly pricey for not knowing where the seafood comes from (as is usually the case). There are limited drink options that go well with that vibe; a small list of sakes, but other than that, your usual beers and.. margaritas and frozen drinks? for some reason? Crafthouse North is hands-down one of my favorite spots. The open space has plenty of seating, so it never feels cramped. The bar staff is awesome and they always have great recommendations and clearly know their beer. With a rotating draft list, there is always something new to try, and honestly, I have yet to have one I didn't love. You truly cannot beat the happy hour from 4-6pm (all day on Wednesdays). All draft beers are just $6 and they have selected apps for $5 and are big enough to share!! The crab rangoons are made in-house and are, without question, the best I have ever had - very little batter and filled with real crab (not the imitation stuff!). The Alaska roll was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious as well. The music selection is always on point and really creates a fun vibe! The food is consistently great, the staff is genuinely friendly, and the rotating beer lineup keeps us coming back to discover new favorites. This is a definite must-try! We've been here almost weekly for a few months now and really enjoy the sushi and solid selection of rotating beers available. Friendly neighborhood environment and have always had a great experience. For those not familiar - let's set some expectations: - you order drinks and or food at the bar and start a tab, if you're getting food they'll give you a number to put at your table. Seat yourself - need water or utensils - they're along the wall past the bar, help yourself - food is made to order and comes out when it's ready. If they're rammed - it's going to take a little while - plan accordingly if it's a busy night or if there's a football game. - want another beer? Go up to the bar and order it. Need more food - same thing. I'm surprised by some of the reviews here. If you're looking for some fine dining, table service, or other non-bar like experience - this may not be the place for you. If you're in a hurry - don't expect to get in and out on a busy Friday night. Prices vary no matter where you go for sushi in MtP or even downtown for that matter - if you're ballin' on a budget, that's ok there's other options. The food here is solid and the staff has always been nothing but friendly in our experience. Support local businesses, have some grace, and try not to use Yelp to vent when you've had a bad day. Wanted to come in and try some beer but the vibe was strange. Was told I couldn't taste anything before trying, then was given my 3.50$ 4 0z pour in a little plastic mug. Hmmm. Was excited for the concept of a new sushi place here in north mount pleasant but boy, do I have some thoughts. Firstly me and my spouse were two of only six patroners in the place. And it took us like twenty minutes to order because the blonde bartender was stuffing her face with sushi ignoring us. We also were not greeted upon arrival. The young busboy was taking phone calls out on the floor. Very unprofessional. Drinks were amazing food was okay nothing special but decent. AMAZING! All of the worker were very nice and calm..no one was being crazy or was being mean! Food and drinks were amazing! Yes on Friday's or when a football game is going on It's crowded but they managed it well! I did notice they gave free food to worker which is very nice and I could just tell by how the workers were acting it was going to be good! Would recommend getting the Cainhoy roll or the classical California roll! They make it well! Would recommend going and will be back! read more
