Craig Hospital was great when I went in 1997. as the years went by its felt like they are more about research. my complaint is that when I had to have spinal surgeries after that, they wouldn't take you. You have to use Swedish Medical Center and it felt like they weren't as on top of things. The older you get it's harder and you don't feel as important or as need of care. I get survey's and complain but there's no follow up. They have a Facebook and advertisement on TV and make it look like most people get cured which isn't true. You get the idea that the people who try hard enough that they walk again by the comments people say such things. Craig needs to focus on patients who age and on pain issues badly. I've heard this from others I know. it's very hard to get back for in patient care after you're released initially if you need care. I got much out of it initially. I hate having to say these things but maybe this will make them make changes. Thank you! read more

This rehabilitation at Craig Hospital is great for some and terrible for others depends on your team and money it's unfair I was treated so poorly because I was given the WORST doctor dr Mayers he was not even present for the first month and a half I was there then appon his return he was insistent I had carpal tunnel and not two new titanium clavicles in my left shoulder blade I an broken up so badly and need many more surgerys to survive I was denied proper care as well as discharged with out a care team or the right medical equipment essential for my survival I'm dieing now at home with out the ability to even dress myself or shower they use the insurance companies all up and get millions in donations as if they were a non profit company it's the absolute despicable blood sucking vampireistic scam using the tragedy of people to profit to the max and leave the people in need out to die .their is so much more to my story I'm just extremely un well and don't have the energy to continue writing this. read more

I've reviewed Craig, here, before (5 stars), but since I am 11 years out from my stroke,followed by a year at Craig, I wanted to revisit it and add some comments about the lasting, life-changing lessons I learned there. They taught me how to use all I've got (left) and whatever's around to overcome the obstacle before me, right now, and push forward, and to never, ever stop trying! This organization refuses to treat patients based on their high profit margin. Instead of accepting our son and his covered insurance benefits, they insist on us coming up with an additional $150,000 to cover an extended stay that THEY recommend. Insurance covers 30 days of treatment for our son's TBI, however, Craig refuses to treat him for the allowed amount of time because they want a full 45-60 days of treatment paid for. 30 days of treatment promises a life change recovery for our son, but because we are not rich, he will get no treatment at all and will be released from the hospital for us to try to rehabilitate him at home. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! This is a commonplace happenstance with this organization. Their profit margin, and demand for an additional $100-150,000 means that any insured, but not rich, patient will be denied services. THIS FACILITY IS ONLY FOR THE ELITE CLASS. Unfortunately, it is the ONLY facility in the Western US that treats TBI this specifically. So, our 28 yr old son is refused ANY service, even though he has insurance that covers 30 days of treatment because they insist on receiving 45-60 days of treatment payment before even accepting him. Why won't they simply take him and treat him for what the insurance allows? Because it doesn't make them enough MONEY. Good on you, if you happen to be rich and injured with a TBI. My son was admitted to Craig for a serious TBI due to a motorcycle accident. He was 33 days post accident when he was admitted and he couldn't walk or really talk. He was just coming out of sedation caused by the meds he was receiving at the LTAC facility before coming to Craig. He had no memory of anything or why he was there. Within 2 weeks he was using his legs, eating, and talking in fully formed sentences! He made huge improvements daily. The staff at Craig is top-notch. There wasn't one person there we didn't like. He was matched up with the perfect therapy team too. My son far exceeded all expectations and was released a little less than 2 months there. We are currently doing outpatient therapies through Craig even though it's a long drive each way. We are so thankful Colorado is home to Craig as I can't imagine what he would be like with a lesser hospital. read more

I am once again reminded of how idiotic humans can be when we are feeling ill. I was inpatient with Craig Hospital for 7 weeks and benefited during that time. However, as an outpatient the service wasn't the same. I decided to follow up with Craig for the recommended comprehensive week long assessment. This was to include a MRI since something was making me weaker. No MRI was even scheduled until the very last minute which shouldn't have been the case. I took a week off of work, was apart from my family and spent money on as assessment at a hospital that I believed could help me. This was the furthest from the truth. I became more disillusioned and actually felt I just threw my time and money away. I am currently in the hospital getting surgery that should have been caught 2 years earlier by the supposedly best hospital for brain and spinal injury cases. It is unfortunate, in my opinion, the hospital with a phenomenal reputation is not truly serving the community to which they are supposedly committed. I see a lot of red tape, plus ongoing request for fundraising assistance with no true empathy or grace for majority of individuals suffering and coping with this injury everyday. When will this hospital finally realize they will have to go back to the basics and look at the main reason Craig Hospital is began. read more

I am surprised there aren't more reviews on Craig Hospital. This is a world class facility. If you know of someone who has recently acquired a traumatic brain or spinal cord injury, look no further than Craig Hospital. Their team of doctors, therapists, nurses, etc. are the best in their field. As one of the top 10 hospitals in the nation for TBI and SCI, I have found both inpatient and outpatient programs to be the most comprehensive and well organized. While my wife was in acute care at Spaulding in Charlestown Mass. We researched where to do outpatient physical rehab. Craig is in the top 10 on all the lists and met some personal preferences (not too hot, interesting location, easy flights (you'll return for periodic evals the rest of your life), etc), so we chose it. Coming to the end of a 10 week out patient stay, and we couldn't be happier. The atmosphere is like silicone valley (relaxed but very effective), the apartment was affordable and friendly (we have met inspiring individuals here), the staff are top notch (they once went 17 years without losing a nurse). The food is good. Their 'Peak Center' allows you to buy important extra therapy for only $80 an hour, and it has all kinds of high tech machines to make a body better. On reviewing potentials, we undervalued Recreation Therapy. This Hospital's RT department has blown us out of the water. The things she has gotten to do have not only restored her outlook, it's kept her so busy it has allowed no time for moping. She, at little to no cost to us, has gone gliding, kayaking, scuba diving (intro only), wheelchair hiking, and on Friday she goes sailing. Of course she has had a ton of both physical therapy, and occupational therapy, and they teach how to drive with hand controls too. Two days ago they taught her how to go down stairs backwards in her chair (in a fire the elevators shut off). If I had to whine about anything I'd probably choose schedule creation and dissemination. It's a black box that spits out a PDF of her schedule every Thursday. It's clunky and does not easily allow our input (but we can input, and change it). Parking is easy and coffee is free. What more could you ask for? read more

My mom was unable to go to CRAIG and ended up going to a competitor that offered much less value and less therapy for her brain injury. As a result, CRAIG stepped in and helped guide them and us as a family regarding the process. They treated her like she was their patient, reviewed her medical files assigned a CCM to work with her case, it was just outstanding. I can't say enough amazing things about this hospital, the service they provide and the attention to detail. Grateful they are here for folks. read more

This is revision of my previous review. Have been to Craig twice for week long outpatient evaluations. Yes, the staff are warm and cordial and the facilities are comfortable and patient friendly. That said, the actual help and assistance have been sorely lacking and at times dishonest. Per my first visit, none of the advice directives helped for my bodily function deficits. I wasted tens of thousands of dollars on overpriced gadgets per Craig's directives, with no follow up or seeming concern over the increased burdens placed upon me, or the massive problems encountered from what turned out to be terrible advice A year ago I returned and was adamant in lengthy conversations with intake staff that my sole purpose was to identify best relief option for my primary issue. When I arrived, none of what I asked for was addressed and none of failed treatment experiences were communicated to the nursing staff. I spent a ton of money for essentially nothing and never had the feeling there was knowledge or concern about my particular circumstances. In my multiple efforts to communicate dissatisfaction, and more importantly make progress on what have been six years of absolute hell, Craig's staff was lightning quick in it's retreat into bureaucracy mode. On multiple occasions, I was promised communications and assistance that never happened. I was never disrespectful or abusive toward Craig staff, but was profoundly disappointed over incurring unnecessary expense, wasted time, feeling intentionally misled, and worst of all being trapped without much of a life and medical hope for change unresponsive. Personally, I believe the Craig facility is largely reputation over actual substance. Patients are supposed to go through their one week dog and pony show, tell them how great they are, and then sure to disappear. It doesn't work very well if there is no actual progress accomplished and no means for substantive follow up. I write this review as someone who attached a lot of hope to Craig's reputed expertise, but my experience has been nothing but profoundly frustrating. read more

honesty compels me to update my earlier review, as it turns out I never regained my mobility. That's okay, though. I am a lawyer and I'll simply practice from a wheelchair. The point is: I've been to Craig,and I can overcome any obstacle now. Craig is the most relentlessly positive place on earth! Everyone there is about "you can do this." When I left, I told my occupational therapist: "it was worth the stroke to have met you!" And I feel the same about Craig as a whole: my stroke devastated my world, but Craig taught me that I can deal with (and overcome) anything. I wouldn't trade my Craig experience for the world. Pity that yelp ratings top out at 5 stars. It's a 10 star facility,and richly deserves its stellar world-wide reputation for excellence. My brother was in a very serious accident and it's a miracle he's alive. His inpatient treatment was amazing the staff was amazingly friendly and they took mostly good care of him except the few negligent ones (one leaving him to lay in his own crap almost all night cause he couldn't get up to go to the bathroom on his own at the time). But once we got into outpatient it felt like all they wanted to do was get rid of us. They didn't really show much care for him after he was put in outpatient and they did a terrible job with him. It's amazing that he's able to walk right now with how little the outpatient doctors cared. This place will care for you greatly when you are inpatient but if you become outpatient and aren't a celebrity or have money they don't give two shits about you. Especially when you stay in the family housing. Our neighbor got kicked out two weeks before their free month was up because some of the cleaning ladies told the main lady that she'd yelled at them and refused to let them clean which wasn't true. They were trying to care for their son who was paralyzed from the chest down when they knocked at 9 in the morning and they asked them to come back later on. Not happy with the outpatient treatment at all. Inpatient was more good then bad though so I'm very happy with that part of my brothers treatment. read more

This facility has the best staff around. My cousin stayed at Craig for 3 months and felt very comfortable with all staff members from doctors to nurses to techs. My dad was in here for several months due to a fall at work and this place is full of amazing people! Not only did they help him get back on his feet but they treated him with the dignity and respect that he deserved. By the time he "graduated" he had made dozens of friends which include the staff.
