Charged more than 3 times retail for my parts to fix a leaky bathroom sink faucet... and $165 for the first hour. I will shop better next time and/or buy parts in advance. I don't know if $165 has become standard but I don't remember paying that much before. When I asked Craig if his men correctly charged me $50 for the parts available at the hardware store for $14.98 he said yes the charge was correct, but he reduced the charge to $30. I needed 3 of the parts so $90 is still a lot for parts I could buy for half that. On the positive side, the sink does not link anymore. read more

Really poor service and management. Had them come and service my septic lines and after going into detail over the phone on how to get the job done right without causing more problems failed to listen to me about using a camera first and collapsed my septic pipe resulting in over a 1000$ in replacement costs and refused to help fix the problem or even help with the cost. If it's something simple they may be able to do the job but I wouldn't give them any real responsibility. I'll never have this company on any one of my properties again. read more

Craig and crew have helped us with a couple of different projects around the house. Most recently changing out a kitchen sink/plumbing. Not an easy task (as it was inset in tile) but, they, as usual had no issue with getting the work done and very nicely. We wanted to install a natural gas line in our crawl space for an outdoor bbq. We contacted five plumbing contractors and only two responded. Craig Johnson came out the next day, was the best bidder and installed the gas line two days later with a shutoff and quick connect. LOOK NO FURTHER. HIRE THIS PLUMBING COMPANY NOW!!!! I have lived in Grass Valley since 1988. I have used a zillion plumbers. I have tons of disappointing stories about plumbers who are deficient and who are unacceptable. Example #1: For years we were using Navo. My bathroom has its own separate sewage line and sewage basin with sump pump. A few years after the bathroom was completed, we had a problem with the shut-off valve and check valve assembly. Navo came and replaced it. A year or two later, it went bad again. Navo came and replaced it. A few years later, same problem again. After 3 times spending about $300 to repair a problem that kept reappearing, I got angry and did some research and found Craig Johnson Plumbing. They sent Joel Thomas. Joel went to Ferguson Supply and procured a much better, stronger, larger, and more durable shutoff/check valve assembly. He didn't just keep replacing the old cheapo parts, he upgraded. I have not had a problem since. Example #2: Our general contractor was in the basement doing an inspection and discovered a sewage smell. I was not a happy camper when Jim told me we had a sewage leak on a plumbing installation that was only 5 years old. It turns out that the drain line under our main floor bathroom was leaking. That plumbing installation was done brand new by Penrose Plumbing in 2011, and in 2017 it was defective. Ivan fixed it. Example #3: For years we have had a water flow issue in several bathrooms, the bathrooms on the lowest floors of the house. Water was trickling out slowly, ever so slowly, from certain fixtures. Plumbers have told us over the years that nothing could be done. Joel Thomas came one morning. It took him 4-5 hours to do it, but he repaired every single water flow issue. He flushed several appliances with Flow-Aid, he back-flushed several appliances using a different technique, and the water was gushing out of every one of those appliances like a fire hose when he was finished. I have more examples, if you want them. Hose bibs that were still not working right after the plumber left. Thanks for nothing, Ridge Plumbing. Sink faucets that a plumber attempted to repair when the faucet needed to be replaced. The incompetence level of plumbers in Nevada County is just ridiculous. Enough examples for you? Use Craig Johnson Plumbing. Use no other plumber. If you have a problem that never seems to be corrected, ask for Joel or Ivan, the two plumbers who can repair anything. read more

Craig sold us a special toilet that stopped functioning within a few months. He refused to honor a warranty. He overcharged us. His employee could not install a basic faucet but they charged me for his time anyway. Craig guaranteed his work and promised to reimburse us but didn't. Really bad outfit. read more

My only complaint was their price - the courteous employee snaked a plugged toilet, was here maybe 15 minutes, and the charge was $165!! I think that is especially high given the service. Two guys came out, I believe one of them was the owner. On the phone he seemed nice, but after being 3 hours late he only seemed puzzled when I told him the problem(which was with my septic tank) after a brief argument he told me that the only option was to release the sewage into the yard/under the house. Having had this exact problem before I knew their was another option that him and his partner couldn't see so I asked them to leave and said I would have the previous plumber take care of it, their was another brief argument where I had to ask him to correct his tone of voice and eventually he rudely left. 750 dollars to replace a 15 foot plastic pipe. The pipe sells for 7 dollars for 10 foot length. The plumber was here a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes. The Labor came to roughly 300 dollars an hour. There was nothing complex about this job. It was in my basement. So far I have called 5 times. This morning I talked with Mark davis himself. When he heard I had a billing question. He said he may get back to me by the end of the day if he has time. He hung up quickly and I haven't heard from him since. Is 300 dollars an hour the going rate? read more

Used them to expand our plumbing system about 5 years ago. The new copper pipe they installed began failing last year. They gave us a BS line about the recirculating system causing the problem. The pipe from the 70's however is not failing (only the new pipe they installed) so clearly they used cheap pipe and they charge a lot to come repair. read more

My house sprung a leak at the water meter. Unfortunately, it was on my side of the water meter. Called CJ plumbing (Joel) they were extremely responsive and visited the house. They gave me a quote over the phone and the work was done by the time I got home from work. Their method of repair was superior to what other services had recommended plus it was half the cost!
