I have had insurance with this group for a long time (Previous part of Performance Insurance Group). Under Mader Insurance & Performance the staff and agent are rude and unprofessional. I simply called to cancel a policy and was lectured on how the MVA would handle a cancellation and they demanded to know the status of my vehicle and where our tags have been turned in ?????? Despite repeating myself several times that I am not interested on being advised she persisted. Dana did the same and when I expressed I didn't need to be advised on the matter and didn't like the condescending tone of Julia she again began to explain to me what happens when I cancel a policy. Really a bizarre group and arrogant behavior. Instead of honoring specific requests they lecture you and talk over and overall lack common considerate communication or responsiveness. I have friends and family members experience the same situation. Poor advice to try and convince you to retain unneeded policies. Do yourself a favor and move along to another Agent. read more

UPDATE 2015: I've been with this insurance agency for over ten years and they leave a lot to be desired. Good luck if you need them for anything! They are bad about returning calls, emails, etc. They're not very caring and you're looked at like just another client. When you call I've found no one can help you unless it's your specific agent. I have had a variety of bad experiences with this group and after 25 years I am finally taking my business elsewhere. Do not trust any of the advice you get from the ladies who answer the phone. I purchased insurance for my son's car and I had to change polices three times the first week to get "the perfect coverage" on a vintage Trans Am with 6000 miles on it. Someone hit him a month later and when we called the first response from "the ladies" was "we can't help you -- just contact the driver's company." The other driver tried to make a claim on our insurance and it was the Erie group and not the office that reached out and told us that we needed to allow them to take over the claim. Of course, that meant we would have to pay the deductible. We were led to believe that the car was covered for $20k. Once it has been damaged it will be difficult to sell this car or get full value. My sons is now making payments on a car that is not worth the value it was insured for. We see that we were not appropriately covered.when it is too late. We now understand that the car would have had to have been totaled to get the diminished value. I'm still don't think he would have gotten the money if he was not at fault. That part was NOT explained. We simply got a note from Peedin saying that they would not be paying the diminished value on the car under our circumstances. We did not get any advice about adjusting our insurance in any way to make it appropriate from this point on. The first insurance the Mader "lady" on the phone got for us cost nearly twice as much and didn't cover the vehicle appropriately either. Unless you are proactive and really know and seek out what you need you will not end up with proper coverage. In the end the Erie company is going to try to arbitrate the claim to get money for us. Peedin doesn't even seem to know this. After I wrote a letter lambasting their service, I got this back from him. I'll let you be the judge of whether you'd like to deal with them. Hello Sharon, I am sorry that it took a while to connect with the proper personnel at Erie to confirm what I had already explained to you before. Erie Insurance does not pay for diminished value to a car that we insure. This is specifically excluded under your auto policy. If you wish to collect diminished value then you must collect it from the individual's company that hit your son. I must tell you that I was not happy with your email. I did exactly what you asked of me and that was to insure your son's car for value that he paid for it. I went on to tell you that we would send someone out to appraise the vehicle and he came up with a value of around $18,500 and that is what your son is paying premium on. If the vehicle would have been totaled or stolen and not recovered then he would have received the value of $20,000 because that is what we agreed to pay him at the time we insured the vehicle. Furthermore, Erie said that they could handle the claim for you because the claimant gave a conflicting statement on how the accident happened and the liability was in question of who was responsible. They gave you an option to let them handle your claim so the vehicle would be repaired in a timely manner. I covered your son's vehicle the best I could. It never came up about what would happen if the vehicle were in an accident and the vehicle lost its value and if we could insure that. I gave you as you would say the most perfect coverage as I had to offer. Obviously, you have lost confidence in our ability to service your insurance needs. I tried my best to do the right thing, when I found out what had happened with my CSR in my office. This is why I saved your son money by putting him back on your auto policy. It would seem that if you do not like the answer I give you, that you are going to bring up the issue of the CSR and question everything I do. Personally, I do not care if you go to the Maryland Insurance Commissioner to see if I handle the situation correctly because I did. If you have any other concerns, please contact me by phone. Erie as a company is also great, we have had a house claim and several car claims and they have been so polite and accommodating in resolving the claims.
