I've been around the automotive block a time or two and have run across some very unscrupulous mechanics in my day.....THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM!! I've been to Craig's numerous times now for various car woes, and they've always been upfront and honest with me. When they weren't comfortable doing something, they referred me elsewhere not charging me for the hours they spent diagnosing problems and when another shop was trying to fleece me on a brake job, Craig's did the work for 1/3 the price. It's a bit of a drive from Des Moines, but honest to goodness quality mechanics are hard to come by, and well worth the trip!! I can't say enough good things about these guys!! read more

Took my car to this bozo cause it was leaking oil. He determined it was the oil pump leaking he fixed it called me told me the car was done I got in it and it would not accelerate past 35 mph it had no brakes and the motor was vibrating up and down shaking the whole car explain to him that the car wasn't doing that before.he got in the car seeing what the issue was and said oh shucks you know what I did I timed it wrong and I said doesn't that blow your motor and bend your valves and he said oh no that won't do that with one tooth off on the cam side. Give me one more day and I'll fix it I said okay whatever I come back the next day and the car is still acting up vibrating up and down ticking in the motor sure enough I took it to two different mechanics and he timed it wrong I went back with the evidence. I had not put more than 20 miles on the car since he touched it explain to him that he timed it wong while he was replacing the oil pump and he used a pry bar to take off one of the gears destroying the gear. it's been about $3,500 having it rebuilt by a performance shop South of town. I went in there and talked to him like an adult he got upset flipped me off and I have it on my camera phone denied that he ever told me that he timed it wrong denied that he could have made that mistake and tried to accuse me of ripping him off. said he wasn't going to pay for the damage. Told me the mechanics that I had look at it didn't know what they were talking about and I explained him that I took it to two mechanics one the dealership and the other is a performance shop two separate shops then he tried to tell me that he has to approve all charges if he is to pay for them and I explain that's not how the law works and that's not how civil suits work. Told me I needed to leave his shop after I insisted that he paid for the damages I explained to him that I would see him in court if he didn't want to negotiate and he did not want to. One day later he text me telling me he turned it into his insurance company I fought with his insurance company for 3 to 4 weeks as they blew me off and ignored me broke all their appointments and did no shows. Needless to say I would never suggest this mechanic to anybody and have to informing friends and family of this guy and his name I was told many different stories about his family and how you should never take anything to the bergins. My car was bad. There were major problems. I took it in for them to take a look. Very nice down to earth guys. At first they couldn't figure out what was wrong. They put a lot of time and research into trying to figure it out. Finally they traced the problem down to a sensor that was throwing everything out of wack. They didn't give up. I was impressed by the service and they treated me very fairly on the price. Very cool. Very honest, which is an anomaly in this day and age. read more

They fixed my daughter's power steering just fine. Sixteen months later it was not working again. So we took it back--they wanted to do all the same work they had done 16 months prior and charge the same price all over again. We declined, and had a friend look at it. There was a power steering line rubbing against the dipstick housing, and the housing had rubbed a hole in the fluid line. Rather than needing a new pump, or new rack and pinion that Craig's wanted $800+ for again, the line was able to be fixed for about $35. There was no need for a new pump, or for a new rack and pinion assembly. Not sure how the line they installed prior got to rubbing to where it got a hole, but since they did the original work I would have thought they would have stood behind what they did just the year before, or correctly diagnose the leak.
