It tasted old and should not have been sold. The tomahawk issue was about quality, not price. A steak that is overwhelmingly fat reflects poor product quality. The handling of the situation by deflecting to personal integrity rather than addressing these issues is what readers should note.

I defrosted three chuck roasts just so I could see what was happening. I didn't allow the time for additional thawing. I had to throw it all out. We will not ever use a butcher like this again...we will get our meat a little at a time. It's too bad. The young man I dealt with was a nice guy, very knowledgeable and treated me with respect as a Black Man... and YES, that means a great deal. Because there are some butchers who DO NOT treat us with respect. Now before you get mad at me....I get it. You have to give it to get it, respect is earned. And R&R has earned my respect. It's just the product went bad. That says a lot. Sometimes a vendor doesn't know he has been shipped a bad carcass. I think that's what happened here. I would shop here again, if allowed.

There was a handwritten sign for sandwiches, and some premade sandwiches in the case. But they looked a little bare- it wasn't clear that they came with toppings, could be warmed up, customized, etc. I took the leap and ordered one- the turkey and Colby on sourdough- and I found out that I could add toppings and that my bread was toasted. But I couldn't see them while making it to know whether it was made fresh or one of the ones in the display case. The sandwich was good- don't get me wrong! But it was a little basic for $13- mayo, lettuce, tomato (light on the toppings), red onion, and pickle. I think one thing that could've helped was some more specialty condiments- Dijon or dark mustard, a speciality aioli,etc. and the pickles were room temp dark green pickles (not fresh). Some fresh, crunchy homemade pickles would have taken this to the next level and really amplified that high quality meat that you're paying for. To the same point, none of the yummy looking salads or sides were labeled in the case. How much were they? Did they contain allergens? Could I get them as a side for my sandwich? Overall a great spot and we'll be back! But I'm left wondering if I'm getting the full experience or not because of the lack of ordering instructions inside. The Country Meat Co. has only been at Findlay Market since 2018, (when new owners took the reins) but has been family-owned and run since 1965. They also sell smoked meats, and ready-to-cook seasoned meats. If you're in a hurry, they have some pantry items too, cornbread mix, breadcrumbs, seasonings, etc. Directly across from them is a vendor that sells already-made vegetable salads and side dishes, so it's easy to grab a whole meal.

We decided on some tuna, perch and rainbow trout. We just pulled the trout from the smoker and can't wait to try it later. They were friendly and quick. We'll stop by again when we're in Findlay Market.
