** The following review reflects my experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I'm hard pressed to think of another sandy beach on the eastern side of the city, so it definitely felt unique to come upon one as the centerpiece of this brand new seven-acre park in Dogpatch. Granted it's small and the cold bay water doesn't make it that inviting for wading (mostly kayaking from what I could tell) - but it is a beach with even a makeshift boardwalk, and the toddlers and terriers appear to love it. The park is flanked by two tall derricks connected by a shipbuilding slipway that has been turned into a wide promenade. A large patch of greenery spreads across the area with picnic tables, barbecues, and restrooms available for use. Especially during the pandemic, it's a welcome addition to this still developing part of the city just a few blocks away from the Chase Center and even more importantly, within spitting distance of The Ramp. Just when you think you've seen it all in the city, a new park pops up and it's pretty cool! Dolores park, Golden Gate Park, and Fort Mason are city park favorites and I can see Crane Cove being the next kick-it hot spot. Lots of great views to soak in. Lots of green grass to setup a blanket/picnic and hanging out with your favorite social bubble. Since it's new, the grass is pristine while also being dog friendly. Want to dip you toes into some sand or into the Bay, crane cove park is versatile. When I walked around I saw folks out on paddle boards and kayaks, perfect for a day out on the bay. They also have a handful of picnic tables if you are looking for an outdoor eating area option. As for parking, a parked a couple blocks up and some street parking is 4hr time limit. Very close to Chase Center, which means I see Dumpling Time at the park in my future...

After walking to Chase Center I went looking for Crane Cove Park. It's only 5 min walk away, next to The Ramp. There are some cranes to look at, a little beach, some stuff to read about ships and history here. Small garden too look at. Three pit toilets available to use and hand washing station.

Such a cool addition to the neighborhood! The park is separated into two areas. One with a landing spit for paddle board and kayaks and swimming. The other area is open for laying out and picnics and even movie nights. Could maybe use better bathrooms but at least they have some. Grab some food and drinks in the neighborhood shops and enjoy the afternoon here. Love it!

On our group's walk to Mission Bay/Dogpatch, we ventured to Crane Park on our pre-planned route. Located about a block south of Chase Center, this is a new park for the area. It's a seven acre park with nice vistas created from an industrial shoreline. There are two lawn areas with picnic areas with children's play areas being built. There's a beach into this park to support water activities. Eventually, there will be two rehabilitated cranes in the park as reminder of the history of the area. The base of one crane currently stands in the park. Along the railing of the park, there are informational signs describing the history of this area as a floating dry docks for ship repairs, shipbuilding and community hub. Famous ships built here included the USS Olympia, El Primero, USS Oregon, USS Heerman and USS England. The park is still being built out and it will be an amazing addition to the area. It is great to repurpose old industrial areas for the community to use and appreciate.

This is my favorite new park in SF. I've been watching it for years having had my photography studio in the Dogpatch for quite a while. I hear they are adding more shade structures but I love it for the open spaces, access to water and it's location. Great place to enjoy takeout food from nearby (I've ate my Chili Scramble from Just For You here twice already) or just relax and enjoy the scenery. For those of you who used to go along that back path near The Ramp, this is now that space but opened up way more nicely!

Sunny and safe place. Not crowded and seemed to be used by neighborhood folks. Only con is the limited street parking.

Ever since then, I've wanted to hike this peak, today I have achieved my wish. Early June with mild coastal temp, 50s-60s. Started up Matt Davis Trail in the foggy forest, to Pantoll Campground, to West Point Inn where we can look down to the top of the fog layer, to the Fire Lookout building at the Peak. Then we came down reverse but split off to Steep Ravine and Dip Sea trail after the campground. I've also always wanted to climb that ladder. This hike provided views of the Pacific ocean on the West as well as views of Richmond-San Rafael Bridge on the East side. I thoroughly enjoyed the cool lush forest, but actually my favorite section was the single track along the slope of the open area after the Mt Tam State Park sign.

My sister and I arrived before 8am at the Watershed parking lot and barely found a space. We did the trail that took us to the West Point Inn for the pancake breakfast and round trip was close to 5 miles so it was a great workout. There's gorgeous views and well! On the way back to the 101 however it's a mess. The road on the way down is crowded with parked cars, which makes driving through challenging. That's the only thing about this park, other than that I'd love to come back in spring when everything is green and vibrant!

Then I kept going! When I got to the conservatory of flowers, I turned around and went all the way back and down past rainbow falls, Lloyd lake, past Hellman hollow to Spreckle's lake, said hello to the Bison and took a left and exited just past chain of lakes. What an adventure! I saw red tail hawks, blue jays, blue herons, all kinds of ducks, two turtles and of course the Bison. There are some beautiful views, art exhibitions, interactive displays and tons of photo worthy spaces. There are these beautiful pianos set up throughout the park for the public to play which I enjoyed practicing on. So many of the local plants are blooming so the flowers and trees sing with life. I stuck to the pedestrian trails but there are so many options off the beaten path for both hike vibes and bike rides. With the unique variety of San Francisco weather, it can go from overcast to sunny in a matter of moments, so it's always nice to have layers.
