My mom and I visited my sister to get her wedding dress. After the appointment we had in San Francisco, she decided to take on a little walk. She was saying this area was a safer spot on town which my mom liked. It was very peaceful to sit by the water. One side is the Golden Gate Bridge and the other side is Alcatraz. I was in awe sitting there while enjoying the sound of the water. It was so peaceful and a lovely spot to take pictures. When planning a wedding, it can get stressful and you forgot to take a step back and breathe. This was the perfect spot for all of us to do so! read more

This is a great stretch of lawn and sidewalk along the gorgeous bay. Plenty of people with friendly dogs for Twinkle to socialize with. Food and coffee trucks in the parking lot at one end. Free parking. My only wish is that there were more restrooms and/ or trash bins around, but I suppose that would cut into the spacious lawn area. I usually go to the presidio, but Marina Green is officially getting bumped up in the rotation =) read more

Grassy, wide open spaces with almost 100 acres of park that extend from Fort Mason to the Presidio. Marina Green Park features knockout views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Palace of Fine Arts, Alcatraz and the Marina. People enjoying the sun (please wear and bring plentiful sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat as there are few shaded areas), running, working out or strolling the waterfront, you can admire the views and grab lunch or ice cream from area food trucks. Shopping and dining in the Marina District is also directly behind you, chock full of trendy shops, restaurants (and GAP if you didn't realize SF is a land of microclimates and need a sweatshirt or sweater!) Marina Green is a stretch of green space on the waterfront in the Marina district. There are also two Yacht clubs nearby so this area has a lot of boating activities on a normal basis. There are also a lot of sports meet here: friendly soccer games, kite flying, football, etc and people love to run/walk, exercise and spend time with their dogs which is what we do when we come with our dog. My friend heard about the SailGP catamaran races which happened recently and wanted to watch it so we took an Uber from where we were last and came here to watch. A lot of people but not really too bad. We were able to find a spot on top of the sea wall edge. We didn't stay for too long as we had reservations elsewhere, but did get some nice photos of the race. read more

Even on busy days you can normally find parking, and it provides a near ideal space to connect while enjoying the outdoors and the beauty of the Bay. The parking lot is also an ideal spot to park if you want to hike to Fort Point located at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. You could look at this review in two ways: 1. You are a Tourist. An SF Visitor. 2. You live in SF Review #1: San Francisco is surrounded by water. The fun urban part is in the southeast tip of The City. Along the north edge you are along The Bay going from Fisherman's Wharf toward the Golden Gate Bridge to the west. If you are making that walk you pass by the Aquatic Park, Fort Mason and then get to Marina Green Park. This is a long strip that goes along The Bay with great views of the Golden Gate Brdige and Alcatraz. Also good look view back to Nob Hill and Pacific Heights looking the other way. You can walk this way out to the Palace of Fine Arts, The Presidio, the GGB. Great area if you like a good walk along water. Review #2 Tons of intramural Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Etc Leagues... Lots of runners. Marina types. Good spot to park if you are heading over to Fort Mason or Great Meadow. Good flat walk for out of towners who want the PG version of beautiful SF. There is a Safeway very close on the east edge of the park right by Fort Mason. You can also catch the 22-Filmore and the 43-Masonic. 30-Stockton and 28-19th Ave are close by too. I like water and views I like long walks and flat terrain. This park has been part of my life for 11 years. I enjoy it. read more

Marina Green East is basically a 74-acres rectangle of flat lawn between Marina (the boulevard) and the actual marina. Located on the coast of the Marina district between Fort Mason and the Presidio, the park boasts views of the Golden Gate, Angel Island and Alcatraz in the background, past the marina yacht clubs. You might even see Anita Rock, which is a cool name for a band. Though, looking south toward the distant city skyline, you can view the traffic of Marina Blvd, which is lined with century-old houses with large bay windows , if that's more your jam. Unlike the awesome Golden Gate Park, this easily-accessible park with free parking, occasional food trucks, and well-maintained restrooms makes this likely the most convenient way to get "outside"- it's the 7-11 of SF parks. Though it's been described as a playground for adults, most of the people, likely more locals than tourists, I saw were just picnicking or hanging with their dogs. The treeless area is perfect for kites and people who hate shade. If a rectangle is too boring, try the triangle at the eastern side (200 Marina Blvd) which hosts workouts and volleyball games. The Fitness Green Court is basically a free gym, with an eco-friendly, seven-station bodyweight fitness circuit. It's located on Webster- the street, not the 3 1/2 foot adorable kid. It wouldn't fit. read more

The Marina Green Park is yet another wonderful park in San Francisco. While the spacious grass area is beautiful, the real treat is the unobstructed views of the surrounding bay, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, the city behind you and of course the marina itself with so many gorgeous boats. We decided to get some wiggles out on a visit to SF and stopped in here to take a walk. The park itself is quite long - a couple miles , maybe - and we walked from one end to the other and played ball with my son on the grass. My parents use to live in the city and talked about how they would come down here often. Soaking it all in, I could see why. The downside, as with any public park, is the dog crap. There was quite a bit on the grass, making laying down or even walking sort of a minefield. Fortunately there are pathways surrounding the park so walking on the grass isn't a necessity. read more

No better way to celebrate Memorial day than here at this park doing The Murph workout. 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats and two miles.... Michael P. Murphy - whom this workout was named after - gave his life fighting for our country and it was said to be his favorite workout. He didn't have deluxe views or optimal temperatures like at this park back in Afghanistan - so we really have no excuse... and when my friend Jeff said he couldn't complete the workout I couldn't have been more disgusted. Look, I don't wanna hear the excuses... I don't care if it takes you all f@#$ing day!! Choose to relax or do the workout... but know this workout isn't for the faint of heart - it will beat you up and you'll likely feel it the next day. That being said, I couldn't imagine a more scenic spot - and hey its always nice to have a pull up bar available with views of the Golden Gate bride. Friends, family, a kite and some over-sized jumbo strawberries were all the elements to the perfect afternoon. My first memorial day at this park I must have been 6 or 7 years old and those are some of the things I remember from that day. Thinking back to years ago as I I'm not sure if the strawberries were particularly large or if I was especially small in comparison.... So go ahead pig out and get drunk at some BBQ or do something more honorable on this day next year... read more

This is a great find in San Francisco it is right on the water with a great view of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. A place you can bring your furry family member and yes the family. If you walk about a little over a mile you will come across a patch of beach wear both your furry baby can play along with the kids in the water. If not a fan of getting wet they have a very large grassy area to play and run. If you like riding bikes you do so also with the family and your furry baby. Just remember you still need to clean up after yourself and dogs. Also even if you are alone great place just to relax and enjoy the the view. It is a prefect place to get great pictures of both Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. This is going to be my go to place when I am in the City read more

This was a great respite spot after attending the people filled piers and busy ZinEx event last weekend. great place to hang out in sf, esp when the weather is nice! this past weekend (labour day weekend) sf hit the jackpot on weather, sunny, warm (but not too hot), and no fog! this is at the very northern end of the marina, right by the water, where it is coolest, and is a fantastic place to throw down a blanket, have a picnic, read a book, or just snooze a bit, hang out with your furry friend. it's also great for tossing a frisbee/ball around. i actually love running around this patch, flat, ez to follow, with a gorgeous view of the golden gate bridge and bay. there are public restrooms here with flush toilets, soap and water, which is greatly appreciated. parking is also free, but may fill up when there are events/busy days. my favourite time to come is early in the morning when it is quiet, with less people, and i can just zen out on a walk or run. read more

The views are priceless. The Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay and the Marin Headlands offer beautiful photo ops from this vantage point. Parking is free and the very large rectangular grassy area is a favorite for kite fliers and other outdoor enthusiasts in this well kept and well manicured neighborhood. The surrounding homes are lovely and a tribute to SF architecture, design and color. We came here today to get out for a bit during these crazy times. The vastness of the area ensured that we would not be in close proximity to fellow humans. There were no kite fliers today. It was quiet. Marina Green is a delightful hotspot along the San Francisco shoreline. For those with electric cars, there are a few parking spaces where you can charge her car completely for FREE. Yes, free electric car charging. If you do wish to take them up on this amazing offer, I would recommend coming extremely early or extremely late. Also, people with electric cars do tend to hover while they wait for them, so I would remove your car from the charger and the parking space as soon as your card is charged. For those who like to do interesting pandemic workouts, Marina Green has a spot by the parking lot with rings hanging from bars. Sometimes you will see people doing pull-ups there, other times you will see people trying to do flips and twists using the rings. It's kinda fun to just hang from the rings and look out into the water. While you're there, I also recommend taking a walk past the boats in the Marina. The transient spots sit out in front of St. Francis yacht club. Often times you'll see an enormous multimillion dollar yacht. Great for daydreaming. read more

This whole area is a neat little section of San Francisco. I've devoted lots of other words to my enjoyment of the Marina neighborhood, but this is the actual Marina area. Boats. Water. You know, Marina. More specifically, the park borders the waters of the bay. The Yacht Club has its home on the western edge, and all the boats of Gashouse Cove are off to the east. There's a little sliver of green that runs between the two, and that's Marina Green Park. It's a long, grassy area amongst the docked boats with incredible views out to the bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Beyond. Mostly, there's just the long stripe of grass. This is, as I have learned, Marina Green East. It's really long, really flat, and really green. Mostly you'll find people here frolicking, playing in the grass, and bringing their own fun to the blank green slate. You may even see lines painted on the grass for sport leagues. I'm not a resident, so my visits are infrequent and varied, but I've sen a little bit of everything each time I've visited. There are two other parts to the park: the Marina Green Triangle, a small triangle patch of grass just to the east of the main strip; and the Fitness Green Court, which is on the triangle and is a standalone seven-station fitness circuit. I had to look that last one up, and wondered what the fitness-looking stuff was all about. TMYK. One of my favorite parts about this park is the view of the bay. Unobstructed. You can see Alcatraz, the bridge, and on clear days, out to Marin. Don't forget to turn around, though. The housed that face the park area really gorgeous and extremely well-maintained. Another fun little find in The Marina/Fort Mason/Great Meadow area. For bonus fun, you're SUPER close to the Wave Organ here, so don't forget to check it out! read more

People are jogging, biking, there is a huge green space at least as big as a football field that had dogs playing. Some on leashes. Some playing catch. It was Date Night and we had just finished eating dinner at Elena Una. What better way to continue Date Night than a romantic stroll around sunset at this park! Even though it was a bit overcast, it wasn't windy, so it was just the right temperature for a stroll. We walked all the way down to Crisy Field, so we could get a better view of the Golden Gate Bridge, and like the other tourists, take a pic with it in the background. It wasn't shrouded in fog, so we just had to take advantage of the photo op. The trail can get really crowded at this park, but as it was nearing sunset, it wasn't overrun with people. Saw lots of couples walking, holding hands, on a date just like us! :) We had a great time! This is the place to be around sunset for all ye lovers out there! read more

The Marina Green is a 74-acre expanse of grass between Fort Mason and the Presidio. The views of the Bay and the various fellow citizens who enjoy this Park are outstanding. I also enjoy the houses that line Marina Boulevard across the street. Many of these 1920s/30s vintage houses have large bay windows. Herb Caen, the late San Francisco newspaper columnist, often made references to the immaculate furnishings behind these windows. In the past, a railroad track along the southern edge of the Marina Green allowed the State Belt Railroad to serve the Presidio. Adjacent to the Marina Green is a marina, home to the St. Francis Yacht Club and the Golden Gate Yacht Club. Prior to the 1906 earthquake, this area was a tidal marsh. After the earthquake, much of the resulting rubble was dumped here. Later, to provide land for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, this site and the adjacent Marina neighborhood was filled in. A nearby remnant of the Exposition is the restored Palace of Fine Arts. This is also a wonderful place to hang out on the grass for hours on end and enjoy the kites and the ocean breezes. I've also participated in running events where Marina Green was the starting and ending point. And that scenery certain helped me finish the race. Parking is hit or miss and picnic snacks (and potential dates if you're so inclined) are available at the nearby Safeway. read more

On my days as "auntie Kathy" the two furrballs I doggysit for love the Marina Green to sniff, roam, and pee on. It is a gorgeous walk to do on a sunny day and people watch. My favorite hobby is to see the terrified looks of the Japanese tourists when they see a large 95 pound German Shepard coming at them with her tongue hanging out. Heelarious. But I am sure watching me chase after said German and counterpart lightning speed Husky is heelarious too as it usually involves me waving my arms trying to stop them from tripping runners and cyclists. I have enjoyed my fair share of runs and picnics in this loveliest of parts of SF, and I recommend to anyone who needs a spot to just meditate, walk, or socialize on. read more

I often do my long runs in San Francisco and Marina Green often is a part of that long run. If you start early at 6AM, there's a great 12-18 mile run. If you cross Lefty O'Doul Bridge near SBC Park, start there and run along theEmbarcadero and, eventually, you'll find yourself in Marina Green, keep running to Fort Point and then run back. I noticed that in very crowded areas, runner's will pass me all the time and then in the less dense areas, where there is no audience, I always re-pass these same "quasi-fast runners." If you need a hill, heading away from Marina Green towards Safeway is a monster hill that connects you eventually to Aquatic Park. read more

The best part of where I live is that I'm just a few minutes from the Marina Green and I I usually head down there at least once a week with my MP3 player to walk around, people watch, or if I'm feeling particularly ambitious I walk down to Chrissy Field or even Ft. Point. Being the primary caregiver to The Kid means finding fun, entertaining and, better still, cheap or free activities that do not involve drugs or alcohol to fill our days together and to hopefully tire her out enough so that The Wife and I can sleep fairly uninterrupted. So, naturally a big open field where I can unleash the full energy of a twenty month old is a pretty ideal spot and meets all the above criteria as well as being devoid of the all too common trappings of living in an urban area like creepy dudes, the smell of piss and unfurled condoms. Kids don't like that shit, yo. So it was on a particularly blustery day that I thought it would be awesome to bring the Kid down to the Marina Green and fly a kite. Sounds like fun right? Hell, even I was excited. I had pictured the kite floating lazily in the sky with the string dangling from my pinky toe while I snacked on grapes. I should have known that I was out of my element when I was struggling to keep the kite grounded while assembling it. As soon as it was all put together and given a few feet of string, it shot into the air spooling out string at an alarming rate creating a searing friction in my hands and trapping one of my digits in a loop of string. After some mild panic I managed to free my finger and regain my composure all the while trying to convince The Kid of what an awesome time we were having. By this time she had lost interest and was more invested in a nearby dog while I was left wrestling with this wild stallion of a kite. I prayed for the wind to die and occasionally the kite would dive down low threatening to crash to to Earth only to swoop back up. Thankfully, the string eventually broke sending the kite fluttering harmlessly to the ground where I immediately pounced on it, broke it down and stuffed it into the trunk of my car. I left feeling a little shaken and defeated with my hands burned, gouged and bloodied and with a newfound respect for the awesome power of kites which I now refer to as an "extreme sport." If you don't have the hands of an iron worker and the mental fortitude of a Sherpa then leave the kite at home and come to the Marina Green for a jog, to run the dog or a leisurely picnic. On a clear day in the city, you really can't beat loitering around Marina Green for hours on end. You won't find young fellows slinging THC laced desserts or American Apparel junkies playing polo atop their fixed gear bicycles, but what you will find are sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as some of the best looking 20 and 30 somethings this end of town has to offer. It's best to plop down in the early afternoon, as it takes a bit for the water that's collected on the lawn overnight to warm up and evaporate into the earth's vast atmosphere. If you go any earlier, you're a prime target for swamp ass as your bum gets a healthy dose of H2O that won't easily melt away. Hit "Dateway" across the street for sandwiches and adult libations (but you didn't hear that from me), and prepare for a sweet sunburn once that helium laced star makes one of its rare appearances around foggy San Francisco. read more

Whether you have a sandwich, a cheese plate, a glass of vino, or some cold brew, hanging out on the Marina Greens is a fantastic way to see the weekend pass away. The bay is filled with white flags drifting up and down the blue ice, and families flock to the greens to settle into a nice blanket draped kodak moment. San Francisco is filled with fantastic parks, and while this one lacks the hills and adorned trees, it has one spectacular view of the Golden Gate. A green oasis exists in San Francisco? Yes, and the MGP is one of them... Actually, the City has quite a few mother-nature gems. It's a beautiful place that is easily accessible. On my last visit, I saw humans: walking, jogging/running, skateboarding, roller-skating, bicycling, unicycling, sailing (including Oracle Team USA in the America's Cup), boardsailing, picnicking, eating, sleeping, and... well you get the picture. The last several days of this writing have been perfect SF weather, where there is very little fog rolling in and the winds are kept to a minimum with temperature up in the high 60F. Further down, you can stroll towards Crissy Fields and enjoy a nice of view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Beware: there is a Dynamo Coffee and Donuts stand nearby, so it may destroy what precious calories you burned off if you were active. That's exactly what happened to me. Enjoy! read more
