In my opinion it's not worth the drive to see a bunch of old junk hanging from the ceiling and a very small place in the back they call a museum. We stopped in here on our way to a child's birthday party in Colombia. We were looking for a toy hopefully of the construction type. Sadly they do not sell any toys in the store. Which is wild because they have EVERYTHING else you could ever want including : clothes, adult gifts, luggage bags, lunch boxes and thermoses, EVERY CARHART that ever existed, homemade foods, lots of treats, dog toys, baby clothes, etc. We did end up getting some clothes and they were priced great. read more

We just made a cross country move with two little kids and I am so happy we stumbled upon this hidden gem! While driving through Missouri, I was surfing Yelp looking for something other than fast food to eat and decided to stop here. It's right off of 70 west of St. Louis and the reviews don't lie! The food is AMAZING. Everyone was incredibly nice and great with our kids, they brought out coloring books and were so friendly. We spent a ridiculous amount of time there eating, stretching our legs and looking at everything. The museum was such a nice break from driving and gave us lots to talk about once we were back on the road. Go hungry and get the biscuits. And some cobbler. With ice cream! read more

Relax, take your time and don't forget to grab some ice cream. Looks like it's not just for tourist but the locals know what's good too. Driving through Missouri and looking for something unique, not fast food. We found it at Marlene's inside the Crane Museum. Lovely waitress Linda was very pleasant and cheerful, So service was excellent. Soup of the day? Beef vegetable barley, a hearty full bowl with plenty of crackers, yum. Both my husband and I really enjoyed it. His tuna sandwich was tasty and came with a bag of chips. While we waited for our food it gave us an opportunity to walk through the amazing museum. You walk through the front door and directly into the dining area which is quite attractive with a large brick fire place, a high wooden ceiling, muted lighting, and plenty of wood trim. You immediately sense that you have traveled back a few decades to a simpler time. The retro table with the formica tops and the chairs done up in red vinyl are straight out of the 1950s. A TV on the wall was showing an episode of "Perry Mason". Yes, there was attorney Mason foiling DA Hamilton Burger once again. Standing by the wall was a Coca-Cola machine with the vertical glass door you opened and pulled a bottle from its slot. Cabinets containing kitschy gadgets and figurines from the 1950s and earlier lined the wall. I asked for two biscuits and gravy. Marlene's website stated the restaurant is "known far and wide for our homemade biscuits". Another website stated that "the homemade biscuits and gravy on the menu are highly sought after by local breakfast fans". That description made the dish sound like something scarce and difficult to obtain like a 1945 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild wine. At $6.99, how could I order anything else? When the dish arrived I started to form the sentence, "this looks just like..." but saw that my wife had already read my mind and she cut me off by saying "just keep it to yourself". I will say, it tasted a lot better than it looked. The biscuits, though not as flaky as classic biscuits, were very tasty. The sausage gravy contained nice size chunks of porcine goodness. The gravy was not too salty or peppery. It had just the right amount of seasoning. All in all, an outstanding dish. The coffee was decent, especially given that it was 99 cents. The service was perfunctory. Our waitress seemed tired or depressed or both. Not that she botched anything, or was rude, or indifferent, it's just that I like a little cheer in the morning. We visited this area on a recommendation from a friend. We were not disappointed! The museum had some fun artifacts from various decades including some toys I grew up with. The food was fantastic! Our party had chicken salad sandwich that was very good, the burger which was very tasty, a French dip that was yummy, and the kids had grilled cheese with lots of melted cheese. To top it off, the staff was very warm and friendly as you would expect from small town hospitality! I highly recommend stopping by for a bite if you're driving along I-70! read more

Hidden Gem! We were on our way back from St. Louis and wanted to stop somewhere different. They don't serve breakfast on Sunday so I had a steak sandwich and baked potato that was simple and well cooked. My favorite part of the meal was the homemade cherry cobbler! Friendly staff and a cool museum to meander through while you are waiting for your food. This place was filled with locals so that's a good sign. This will be my new I-70 food stop! read more

You won't regret stopping in here. The folks are super friendly and the food is great. Pretty simple menu but everything is good. They don't do dinner and they don't have french fries (which I love with my hamburgers) but the chips are good. The museum is free to see and is loaded with things to view. This hidden gem in the small town of Williamsburg, MO is worth stopping off the interstate. The Museum is packed with unique and well-preserved antiques and artifacts. Marlene's Restaurant serves delicious home-cooked food. My husband had a big, juicy hamburger with all the fixings. Stopped here because I wanted some good diner food. The burger was delicious but it came with bagged chips, no fries. My husband had the chili dog and it was good too, The menu was mostly burgers or other sandwiches and some salads. The decor was retro charming. Just wish there were more than sandwiches. read more

We came here because of the glowing reviews but did not have a good experience. It took almost an hour for our breakfast to come out and then it was all burned. The biscuit was charred black and my son wouldn't eat his eggs because they were black too. The baby spit out her pancake because it was so burnt.
